This place is quaint, cozy and charming as it is small in size but filled with character. My colleague and I arrived late in the evening but there was a table available and we were greeted and seated immediately. They do have menus in English if you ask. The menu was filled with Belgian food, plenty of beer options and dessert. We started with a cheese plate as I really did not know what to order for the entrée as nothing really jumped out at me. I love cheese but did not come even close to finishing the plate as the cheeses were mostly processed and smelled like Limburger. I ordered a chicken dish that was to be served with mashed potatoes and vegetables with a sauce. When my order arrived I was confused because the potatoes, vegetables and the sauce were all pureed together with the larger pieces of chicken (boiled perhaps?) on top of it. Fortunately, I had asked for crumbled bacon in advance and it really helped provide some flavor to some really bland food. The food had very little seasoning so the salty and savory flavor from the bacon really helped this sorry dish out. I did take the opportunity to have some beers here. I usually like to order local beers when I travel. It was a mixed bag as the first beer was way too sweet and the second beer was much better. I also ordered some ice cream with melted Belgian chocolate to drizzle on top and that was the best part of my meal. Despite not liking the cheese or the entrée much, our waiter was great and provided us with fantastic service. Be sure to visit the cellar if you stop in. Three stars!

Great Belgium Cuisine! Small cosy and exclusive environment! Great Food! Great Service! We had been passed this restaurants for days, and it looks so small and insignificant, more like a gift shop than a dinner place from outside the window. But I am glad that we finally give this a try out! It was not cheap the price was kind of middle range in Brussels. We had a dark beer and a cola, both made in Belgium, some free butter and bread, Starter: Escargots with tomato soup, comes with a small salad. Main Courses: Carbonnade, beef stew with small salad and potato smash Dessert: coupe du cellier, vanilla ice cream, with a bit chocolate liquor, topped with whipped cream and chocolate shavings. My partner was sick for almost a week, so she had little appetite, and we shared all the above. Each one of them was great. I love the carbonnade and the coupe du cellier the most! The overall price was 36 euros. The table next to us had meatballs with sweet or tomato sauce, which also looks good. The menu of the night only have two soups, four main courses, four desserts. But they are freshly made while we eat. The room is so small and the kitchen is in the same room, so it becomes a bit steamy and hot and with all the smells from the kitchen. It is not easy to get a table. Last Friday we called to book a table for three, they told us they only have two table for two left, so can not book three. This time we ditched the friend and visit as a couple. When we arrive, they told us to wait half an hour for a seat. So we went to a nearby second hand book store, and it was worth the waiting. Definitely coming back. But this type of good dinner maybe we can only afford once per month.

This place was my go to spot in Brussels. The flemish stew here is out of this world. Who knew a stew could knock your socks off. I tried the sampler meal as well but the best thing in the sampler was the flemish stew.

The beer that was paired with the beef stew. Quite tasty (although I'm no beer connoisseur).

Came here for lunch today and left full and happy! At around 1 pm, there were around 3 other tables taken. The menu is written up on a chalkboard and the person working there (perhaps the owner?) translated all of the names of the dishes for us. Two of us got the beef stew and my other friend got the fish plate. We all also ordered beers-- we asked for recommendations based on the food we ordered. The food was fantastic and super filling! My beef stew was tender (although not break with your fork alone level) and the beer paired nicely. It is a small place with a lively atmosphere and fun music playing. All in all a nice experience for a Belgian meal and seems about on par with other Belgian places price wise (my meal cost 20€).

Came here for lunch on Thursday, first customer of the day. The wait staff was very friendly, and assumed I'd want the English menu. I wanted to try the baseline carbonnade since that seems like a good way to judge a place here. It was well made, but not nearly as soft and flavorful as Fin De Siecle. Great kriek recommendation. Would come try something else if I was in Sablon area again, but not a destination.

Thoroughly enjoyed myself here as the waitstaff made me feel at home with complimentary tastings and mini appetizers. I personally found Belgium food to not be as tasty as I'd like, but the food they served was well cooked with a great pairing of flavors - it was a good step out of the comfort zone! Overall, a great cozy place for drinks or food, but picky eaters may find their menu a little difficult as it is mainly Belgium specialties.

Hit this place up for the carbonnade, which was featured on an Andrew Zimmerman show. It was so good. I saw on tv that the owner makes it with beer and gingerbread, which definitely came through in the flavor. We also got the sampler that offered other Dutch specialties, which was tasty. Came for lunch so it wasn't busy, but the restaurant is quite small so I'd make reservations in advance.

A small family like restaurant, enthusiastic service. It serves typical Belgian dish, we had beef stew and rabbit cooked in beer, and tiramisu in spaclouse. The rabbit is definitely a delicacy, the owner recommended a high fermentation beer called "duchesse de bourgogne", which is a rare find, also very unique and tasted great.

This place is great. Good for an authentic Belgian meal. I had the meat balls. Booze and food is cheap. My buddy and I both had two beers and a meal for around 40 euros. Owner is slightly pretentious, but harmless and he grows on you after a beer... two beers...9% beers....all good.

First timer in Brussels, went to this quaint small restaurant with good outdoor seating. With no Belgium food experience I accepted the waiter's recommendation and took the combo made of 5 local dishes, each one of them was great, and a great Belgium beer I didn't know before (le forte). Highly recommended, great place, great service.

Good little restaurant, visiting Brussels for the first time and wanted local, traditional food. Found this on yelp and though we give it a try, food was tasty, good portions and they also had a variety of local food!

    The tasting menu!!! Yummy!

This restaurant is the perfect restaurant to try the Belgium specialities! I had the tasting menu and that good to have this option when you can't choose what you want... At least you get a bit of everything! The food was really good the waiters was really really nice and for what we ate the cost is more than reasonable! Would recommend it!

Came here today after reading good reviews about it here on Yelp, but the place seemed quite shut down. Not sure if it is still open.

But since we were in Brussels anyway, I figured we might as well try to get the full Belgian experience and try both mussels and beer. Le Chou de Bruxelles certainly did not disappoint -- the food was outstanding, the service impeccable, and the space delightful. The mussels were remarkably fresh and were a bit briny (as all mussels must be) but weren't overly fishy. Le Chou de Bruxelles offers a wide swath of sauces you can pair with your mussels, which is super fun; I ended up doing a more classic combo with white wine, garlic, and several herbs, but it was super tasty -- the herbs were super fresh and brightened up the overall dish, and the white wine was a lovely pairing with the shellfish. We also got their caprese salad, which was super tasty; the mozzarella was incredibly fresh and the tomato was perhaps the best tomato my friend had ever tried. It was presented in a rather entertaining way, with the tomato cut in half and hollowed out, then with the mozzarella packed inside the tomato. The service was also phenomenal and absolutely on-point. We were seated in the back of the restaurant right next to the patio door, so a few bees flew in and circled around our heads during our meal, but the staff was super friendly in helping us push the bees back outside. Vibes-wise, the restaurant is gorgeous and lively. It's a little bit out of the way from Central Brussels, so you end up with a good mix of locals and tourists. Absolutely love this spot and can't wait to come back in my next trip to Brussels!

I just didn't enjoy anything that we ordered. Sadly, it was my least favorite meal that we had in Belgium. Based on all the reviews, I think it's clear that it's not the place per se, but what I was looking for. That being said, I still must be honest. What we ordered: Cheddar Croquettes (2 for 14 Euros): Just ok and this was one of the things that I felt was overpriced Carpaccio of Smoked Beef with White Truffle Oil (18 Euros): Again, just ok Meatloaf with "Jack Pepper" sauce (26 Euros): "Jack Pepper" means something different in Brussels. It was basically a peppercorn gravy. I wasn't a fan, but Jim G. enjoyed it. With this, we had frites and a small side salad. I know many people recommend that Flemish Beef Stew, but we already had that at Fin de Siecle, and I couldn't imagine that any place would top it, so we didn't get it here. Ultimately, this place isn't for me, but I seem to be in the minority.

He reminded us of a combination of Neil Fak (from The Bear) and Lazlow (from What We Do in the Shadows). He was coordinating the line, seating, and gave outstanding recommendations, as well as praise, when we picked our wine. We were quoted about 45 minutes to wait, as they don't take reservations. A two-top opened up inside and Julian was concerned that it would be too hot, so he made me go inside to check first. Thankfully, it was right by the open area leading to outside, so we took it and were seated in about 20 minutes, rather than 45. The place was packed the entire time we were there; its reputation certainly precedes it. Good energy and beautifully decorated with stunning art inside. Carbonades a la Biere (beef stew; 19.45 Euros) is their speciality and was delicious! So reasonably priced for the flavor and te size of the dish! After Julian mentioned that the lamb is the best dish on the menu, there was no question that I was ordering it. Jarret d'Agneau Roti (Roasted Lamb Shank; 27.35 Euros) was so very good! Full of Rosemary and so tender! As Julian was running by, I quickly asked him: "Tiramisu or Tarte Tatin?" No hesitation, he replied, "Tarte Tatin." I wasn't sure if he actually put the order in for us or not, but then it arrived at our table and it was delicious! Pear Tarte (8.65 Euros) with a side of ice cream. Not too sweet, with lovely spices in the pears. Cash only, always a line, but totally worth it!
