Absolutely outstanding. I admit that I've never been the world's biggest fan of Belgian food or of mussels, so I was a little bit skeptical when my friend suggested we grab dinner at this place. But since we were in Brussels anyway, I figured we might as well try to get the full Belgian experience and try both mussels and beer. Le Chou de Bruxelles certainly did not disappoint -- the food was outstanding, the service impeccable, and the space delightful. The mussels were remarkably fresh and were a bit briny (as all mussels must be) but weren't overly fishy. Le Chou de Bruxelles offers a wide swath of sauces you can pair with your mussels, which is super fun; I ended up doing a more classic combo with white wine, garlic, and several herbs, but it was super tasty -- the herbs were super fresh and brightened up the overall dish, and the white wine was a lovely pairing with the shellfish. We also got their caprese salad, which was super tasty; the mozzarella was incredibly fresh and the tomato was perhaps the best tomato my friend had ever tried. It was presented in a rather entertaining way, with the tomato cut in half and hollowed out, then with the mozzarella packed inside the tomato. The service was also phenomenal and absolutely on-point. We were seated in the back of the restaurant right next to the patio door, so a few bees flew in and circled around our heads during our meal, but the staff was super friendly in helping us push the bees back outside. Vibes-wise, the restaurant is gorgeous and lively. It's a little bit out of the way from Central Brussels, so you end up with a good mix of locals and tourists. Came here as it was close to our hotel and had great reviews for moules frites. We got the garlic mussels and the steak. The steak was good as were the mussels. Just know that there were ALOT of mussels for people not used to eating them. The service was impeccable and everyone was so nice. While the desserts looked delicious, we had no room but would have loved to try as the table next to us said the crème brûlée was to die for. read more

I had one of my favorite dining experiences here during my short stay in Brussels. Also recommended by The Hotel. The ambience inside was quaint and romantic but my favorite was the back patio decorated with little twinkling lights. While I dined alone the staff took well care of me keeping me entertained, exploring the menu while at the same time gave me space. The have All 28 middle dish varieties all $22€ I tried many items as I really didn't want to leave. Each one better than the last. The stand out was the Rosemary, tarragon, saffron, apple, red chili-cream, Garlic, onion, white & Chimay Beer. A close 2nd was Diable Rouge with Red Chili Cream, although I would love it to be more spicy. 3rd but still perfectly prepared was Au Vert Garlic, 7 herbs & White Wine Oh but wait, Brussels isn't only about Mussels... make sure you try the Lamb Shank Slow cooked in Leffe Beer & Herb sauce for 3 hours. Fall off the bone perfect! For dessert the have a sampler, perfect for someone who loves to sample like me. Douceur du Chou Chocolate cake, apple pie, Speculoos Ice Cream, Belgium Chocolate Mousse But it doesn't stop there, with the check they give you these little Manneken Pis gummy's that I kindly asked for more. Great service. Great food. Great beverage selection. Great company! Just had an amazing meal with a group of four. I had mussels with tomatoes, garlic and vegetables. Fresh and delicious!!! My friends got the three course meal and loved lamb chops and steak--croquettes and mussels for their appetizers and desserts we tried: apple pie, creme Brûlée, bruixlles cafe (spelling?), and praline ice cream...everyone cleared their plates! I drank table red wine and it was good, and the group got Belgian beer--forgot the name but not the Leffe-a more rare one. read more

Quaint place that accommodated a large group at the last minute. Was packed on a Tuesday night. A whole page of the menu is designated to mussels and they did not disappoint. They brought a huge pot of mussels and frites that were delicious. The back patio is great and heated during cooler weather. Would definitely go again. read more

First time here, and the place did not disappoint. Had mussels as a starter, which were very good. Nice and meaty, and cooked just right. Same goes for the steak frites, quite good even if the frites were not cooked in "ossewit", which would make it even better. Service was ok. Some of the staff might make a point of learning English rather than just French. Ended up having beers, as there is a quite good selection of pilsner and local specialities (blonde, double and tripel). Wine list was not great, not that much choice and mostly French wines. All in all a recommendation for anyone who wants good Belgian food in a cosy environment. read more

Le Chou was a great introduction and first dinner for us in Brussels. What a great welcome it was! We started with a delicious shrimp appetizer and then both my husband and I got the mussels. Mine was flavored with garlic and anisette and my husband's was flavored with mustard. You can definitely taste the different spices with the mussels. The restaurant brings out full pots of mussels and the bib. It was quite the experience, and I recommend it to others. It was a little off the beaten path from the Grand Place, but well worth the cab ride. read more

I'm not a mussels fan but my friends loved them. They came in this huge pot and a bib to keep your clothes clean. We were looking for mussels and fries somewhere in Ixelles and this place was immediately recommended to us. Well situated just off avenue Louise and near Chatelain, the restaurant is very welcoming and is themed around Jacques Brel, the famous Belgian singer. You'll hear him too, as they play his discs in the background. Now to the food. They serve a splendid list of classical Belgian dishes with 30 different kinds of mussels and fries. In winter you get a complementary menu of game meat, typical for that time of year in Belgium. The food is good and overall I'd recommend going if you want some no nonsense Belgian food. They don't try to do anything fancy, things come very quickly and the food is good. My partner and I went for dinner, and started with croquettes, followed by mussels and fries. The croquette, one shrimp and the other boar, from the winter menu, were very tasty with a preference for the shrimp one. A good start to the meal. The mussels too were good, though for some reason mine seemed to have a lot of broken shells. My partner had mussels Baccara, a vegetable and tomato based broth, whereas I went for the cream and Roquefort variant. All in all good mussels with a good portion of fries. I managed dessert and had the tasting trio. Here however I was disappointed. The mini fondant was dry and tarte tatin was soggy. A shame, maybe individually they are better, I'll need to try. Overall a great meal. This place is good alternative to a typical brasserie which too often are a bit old fashion. Ps: We spotted a wonderful looking jambonneau the table next to ours. I loved this place! Very friendly and helpful staff, they are so warm and welcoming, especially Antonio. I had the stoemp for lunch, since I was told it was a Belgian specialty. I was not disappointed, it was delicious! I also got a cherry flavored beer (I forgot the name) because my cousin recommended it, and it was wonderful although very sweet, so you might want to get another kind of beer if that's not what you're going for. I definitely recommend this place if Brussels is one of your travel destinations. read more

A neighborhood restaurant, unpretentious and solid. Sat out back on the patio on a busy, lovely summer Friday night. Split a salad and a pot of tarragon and white wine mussels with frites. The service is so friendly and helpful. They are always taking care of you and making sure everything is okay. Reservations are preferable. My mom thinks it's the olive oil they use that makes the food taste so good. The pasta is perfectly cooked, the mozzarella and tomatoes are fresh, and the mussels are the best. Fantastic mussels and plenty for two! Just ask for more bread to mop up the liquid. Lamb was not for me, shrimp croquettes were a bit fishy, but the fries were delicious (just add salt). Service was fantastic and sincere. Order mussels and you won't go wrong. read more

If you are looking for authentic Belgian food in the heart of Brussels, look no more! This is a fun place with great food, excellent service and a great atmosphere. The only 2 negative things are that they are always booked so you have to reserve well in advance, and the acoustic is not so good. It's actually really loud so not recommended for business dinners. I love the giant maneken pis gummy bears at the end. Nice touch to an already very Belgian experience. read more

Cosy restaurant near Avenue Louise. Friendly welcome, nice interior, very good value for money. The restaurant looks quite small at the first glance but can accommodate groups of 20+ persons without problems. If you love mussels, you are at the right place - mussels are a speciality of the restaurant. For dinner with a group I can especially recommend Carpaccio of Beef, Moules Frites, Chocolate Mousse as a three-course dinner. My new favorite for Belgian food in Brussels! read more
