Ball 'n Biscuit Catering Tacos: Two of my best friends recently had Ball 'n Biscuit cater the desserts at their wedding. The company has been around since 2005 and offers a wide variety of options that could please anyone. My friends went with the tacos and I'm really glad they did. Two options of tortilla were offered, soft corn and flour. Both were tasty and super soft, but the flour edged out the corn for me. Good things come in pairs and two types of phenomenal cheese sauces were also offered, nacho cheese and a white queso. With all that sauce I still managed to add a little tangy sour cream. Both beef and chicken were offered as fillings. I obviously went with the beef (without going on too much of a tangent my longtime followers know I'm allergic to an antibiotic used in poultry and I didn't want to chance that the chicken meat was from 100% antibiotic free chickens), which was juicy, tender, and flavorful. My tacos were pretty packed, but I also managed to get a small amount of beans in them too. As if the cheese sauces weren't enough, I topped my tacos with a sprinkling of cheese like a true Wisconsinite. I initially went with one taco of each tortilla and paired each with a different cheese. They were so delicious I had to go back for one more though! Doughboy approved. So I had Maria cater my sister's baby shower since they specialize in vegan and my sister wanted 100% of the food to be vegan. I decided I could take care of the sides and would have Ball n' Biscuit do the main dishes. Ordered the BBQ jackfruit sliders and Italian tofu sausages for 50 people...so that ended up being one chafing dish worth of food and our total was a little over $400! In truth, it was my fault because she did quote me on it and I should've just walked away at that point, but I didn't..like a fool I said okay. Once I realized how little that actually is, I kind of felt like I got screwed...I mean seriously jackfruit is like $1.50 a can... The Italian sausages were just warmed up in marinara with some peppers and onions, it was good but not great or anything. Just for persepctive, I considered another party I had last year for about 50 people...exactly the same menu, but with actual Italian sausages and beef instead of jackfruit... catered by Bunzel's and it clocked in just around $200! So yeah, I did think this was really on the spendy side. Another thing that kind of irritated me was she didn't come and pick up the chafing dish for like a week.. Leaving it for 1 to 3 days would have been acceptable, but 7 days is not. I didn't want to have a dirty chaffing dish sitting in my back hallway for that long...and yes, it remained dirty because why would I hire a caterer if I wanted to do dishes?? What is the point? I had the great pleasure of attending a pop-up restaurant dinner catered by Maria and the Ball'N Biscuit staff. Over the course of three quickly fleeting hours, we were serve twelve courses, tapas style. Each course was simply delicious. It is quite an achievement to whip up twelve individual courses and manage to make each of them unique and absolutely mouth-watering. Everyone at our table was raving about the food. Even though we were all satiated, we were still wanting more because the dishes were so good. The execution and presentation of the meal was flawless and the evening seemed to fly by as we welcomed each course with renewed amazement. From classics like roast beef with horseradish sauce to creative new entrées like a savory cheese meringue - it was all top-notch and I look eagerly forward to the next time I can attend one of Ball'N Biscuit's extraordinary events. read more

Ball'N Biscuit is the catering company I've hired for my wedding. The wedding was supposed to be at the end of March of this year, but the pandemic put the kibosh on that. Maria was super accommodating and able to get me in at a new date. She's amazing. Now let's talk about the food. I've attended a few events catered by Maria, and everything was unbelievably tasty, innovative, and fresh. Her patatas bravas taste even better than any I'd had in Spain (and I ate a TON of patatas bravas when I lived in Madrid, hehe). My fiancé loved her coq au vin, and we also have enjoyed her pulled pork (in my case, pulled mushroom) dinners. I can't say enough wonderful things about Ball & Biscuit! We first met with Dan and Maria last year about catering our wedding - we love Mexican food and were having a difficult time finding someone who wasn't the cookie-cutter caterer and was into Mexican. The bottom line: -the food was incredible. Seriously on par with the best Mexican restaurants I've been to (um, a ton). Not only did we get a great selection of fresh veggies, tortillas, two salsas, guacamole, etc., but the meat was top-notch. Tender, juicy steak. Yum, drool, etc. And oh yes, a very vegan-friendly meal! (Though as you could probably tell, I am not a vegan myself) -Dan and Maria are truly great vendors. We were in touch for well over a year and they were always responsive and considerate of our budget. We found the cost to be very reasonable - especially given the quality of the food and service! - and their recommendations also reasonable and worth taking. And when we had to fit in a last-minute pie pick up, they picked up the errand without issue. Awesome food and professional etiquette. The food is AMAZING and the price is unbeatable. Maria & Daniel basically operate out of their own kitchen/a co-op in Riverwest, so they have no overhead and are able to provide great service at a great price. They excel not only in vegan/vegetarian and gluten-free menu options, but Daniel is a master of meat. The pork tenderloin we had at our tasting and again at our wedding was the best I've had in my life, and many of our guests said the same. You have to pay for your tasting, but the money you put down is considered paid toward your overall cost should you choose to go with them. If you try them, you will understand that this is a worthy investment as the food is too good to say no to. I was a little concerned leading up to the wedding because I was afraid they seemed a little disorganized or out of sorts (hence the 4 stars for responsiveness), but I could tell that once "wedding season" begins, they are completely in their element. Everything went off without a hitch, and they are so committed to providing excellent service. Literally about a week before the wedding I told Maria "I want a late-night taco bar." She says "We can make that happen," and it did, and it was amazing. We were able to feed close to 150 people for about $6,000 -- that included passed appetizers, family-style service, cake-cutting, a "coffee bar" with dessert and a late-night taco bar. The team of servers is hand-picked from local service staff throughout Milwaukee since they don't actually employ all of them year-round, so you're getting the best of the best in the local service industry. Ball 'n Biscuit is a great local company, and I can't wait to recommend them to anyone I can and hopefully to book them for any other smaller events I may need catering service for in the future. read more

Ball 'n Biscuit catered a recent wedding, and it was great! It was nice that the couple was able to support such a wonderful local business, and that we the guests were treated to such a nice meal. We had a vegetarian Mexican buffet, which was a very nice change from standard wedding food. My only complaint was the rice was way too hot. I'm kind of a wuss when it comes to spicy food, but everyone at my table commented how uncomfortably hot it was, so it definitely wasn't just me. But other than that, we had soy chorizo with grilled veggies tacos and potato & black bean empanadas, along with some great sides. read more

I attended a wedding catered by Ball N Biscuit. The staff were great, but the food was awful. Undercooked zucchini, soggy corn muffins. My date had the pulled pork and said it was dry and bland, the bacon brussels sprouts were bland as well. The vegetarian option was just horrible. Lukewarm spiral noodles, mushy and overcooked with a very bland red sauce that the noodles soaked up (probably why they were mushy). I've had school cafeteria noodles taste better. I actually but bbq sauce on it to try to save it so I could have something to eat. Again, staff were lovely but that food was just awful. I hired Ball 'n Biscuit Catering for an open house event at my studio. I needed a caterer who could handle a specialty menu - namely, vegan and gluten free. Ball 'n Biscuit delivered the most amazing, scrumptious food - all displayed beautifully. My guests were thrilled with the food - and the best part? It didn't break my budget! Maria and Co. were total pros from start to finish. It's not easy finding a caterer who can work with special diets - but Ball 'n Biscuit came through and wowed us! They made the worst food for our wedding!!! Roasted vegetables- no seasoning and soggy mess. They were steamed and horrendously prepaid. Risotto- taste like play doh super over cooked Beef braise- again NO SEASONING!!! The chicken was so over cooked it was dry as chalk! It was absolutely embarrassing to serve that food to my friends and family. The sent me a small check after I wrote them a complaint letter. But they should have given me a full refund for ruining my wedding day with there terrible food. The tasting at there house was awesome and when it came time for our wedding they failed in the worst way. This was over a year ago and I'm still furious!! Please don't use this catering company because it's almost impossible to sue a catering company and win. It's some of the worst food I ever ate in my life! We had a large wedding at Turner hall and Maria was able to provide me with amazing food, displayed beautifully, and all within my budget without compromising the quality and freshness of the food. I had a four month engagement and needed to find a caterer in Milwaukee that could accommadate my requests for decent food and my husband's requests for Russian food. There is no russian catering in Milwaukee minus one place on 76th and silverspring that basically requires a package w the hall which several Russians had commented the food wasn't that great anyways. Maria and Daniel were the only caterer in Milwaukee that would take our requests and in our tasting attempted to make some home made Russian food for my future mother in laws approval. We also had requests for multiple food courses family style spread out through hours of our wedding which is a rather unique wedding request. We ended up combining Maria's veggie empanadas with Daniel's guinness braised short ribs which were a total hit with our crowd. Also had charcuterie and pickled veggies for initial courses to strike a chord with the vodka bottle service. I had Ball 'N Biscuit cater my wedding on May 24, 2015, and IT WAS AWESOME! The whole experience of working with Maria was fantastic. For our tasting at her house, (which by the way I loved because it felt so warm and inviting) she had asked us what we were looking for and what we were into, and then when we arrived, she made EXACTLY what we said. The food was delicious and I could tell was made with love! We also asked her to make a Filipino dish for us (chicken adobo) which she had never made before, but having tasted her food, I had no doubt Maria would deliver. She allowed us a second tasting for that, and just as I had suspected, it was delicious and just like my mama made it (but don't tell her that!). On the day of our wedding, her head chef Martha and head server Jeannie were fantastic as well as all of the servers who helped us that night. Everyone gave the food rave reviews. The only thing I'm really bummed about is that my nerves that night made it difficult for me to stuff my face the way I really wanted to! My daughter was married December 3, 2011 at the Pabst Mansion in Milwaukee. We sampled a few caterers and were disappointed in the food. It was heavily processed and actually pretty bad. Then we came upon Ball'N Biscuit catering. Maria and Dan are passionate about food and have a dedication to their customer and their craft. They were extremely accomodating to our needs including vegan requests, small special order for my dad, bartending requests to name a few. The food is all from scratch and award winning recipes. We received rave reviews. The empanadas, Pulled pork sandwiches, salads, everything was delicious. The staff is amazing and I highly recommend the bartending service they have as well. Daniel and Maria care, know their business, are flexible, and fun. But most of all the food is fresh and delicious.
