Over time we were charged more and offered less. The family who runs the studio gives lip service and says they care about kids but they really only care about money. There is a serious lack of diversity and kids who have different backgrounds and religions may not feel welcome. Kids were punished for missing a competition due to a holiday, a family member's funeral and even a serious injury which might have required surgery. One dancer was made to dance with an injury and without a brace because it would ruin "the look". Although there are some good teachers, your child can get equal instruction in a more supportive environment (with nicer owners) elsewhere.

Even though we paid a years tuition for our daughters class- the owner has decided to charge each dancer $35 before they can participate in the dance recital and will not even allow parents to purchase tickets until this is paid. Is this a studio that cares? No way. If you sign up be aware that the owner will just charge arbitrary charges and pretend it's for a trophy. Disappointing and we will not be participating in the recital at all and therefore will not purchase the 10 tickets we bought last year. We also plan to spread the word to all friends.

She still has 6 credits which are super expensive, that she wants to use when she has the open slot by some miracle (these are already paid for classes) - they said sorry, we can't help. By cancelling, we need to pay another 30 days, plus she would lose her 6 credits. Aka, take over 1 month of pre paid credits to the grave, and yet still pay another month, to then be able to cancel. Zero empathy or understanding with a loyal long-time customer who simply is now unable to attend due to our children starting school for the first time, and no care in the world to help keep the credits. We didn't ask for a refund, simply to maintain them to use what was paid for in the small chance she can - and nothing from them. This is NOT how you treat loyal local customers who have referred many friends to your gym. This is not how you get customers back in your gym when schedules allow once again. Poor service, no care once you start paying, and scammy policies that make zero sense. Do the right ting - if someone pays for classes, let them use them. If someone needs to cancel due to reasons out of their control, let them go without stealing paid for courses. These simple practices are how you maintain a happy community, and my wife would've referred more friends to your gym, and instead, you now have a very unhappy and loud past customer and you will lose much more than what you're stealing from us. Good luck.

All I can say is I wish we had made the move earlier! It's never easy changing studios, but Kim and her staff went above and beyond to help my daughter feel comfortable and to ensure she was in the right classes for her ability. There are so many options for classes, both in times, levels and types. She progressed beautifully this year and felt seen and appreciated, despite being new to the company. She was embraced by the other dancers and her teachers, and feels at home even after dancing there for such a short time. While the dancers compete, I found that there is so much more to this studio than the competitions. The dancers learn choreography from every class they take, not just their competition dances. This was a striking difference for us, and afforded our daughter the opportunity to learn so much more over a years span. They even had an optional performance at Disney over the summer, which was such a memorable experience. Kids that didn't attend were not penalized whatsoever. They also encouraged their students to audition for the Joffrey summer ballet intensive. Their commitment to seeing their students improve was evident, regardless if it meant losing dancers for Disney or their own summer classes at the studio. While we have only been here a year, we have not felt that competitive/cut-throat vibe that one can feel on a competition team. It has felt very supportive and fair. The staff is all warm and approachable, and it's really been fun getting to know them outside of the studio. At the end of the day, Kim and her teachers just want to see their dancers improve. It's been a refreshing and positive change for us!

I joined to swim, and the pool itself is excellent. The problem is what happens right before people get in: no one showers. I've seen people go straight from the basketball court, still schvitzing, into the jacuzzi (ew!). I've even seen lifeguards hop in without rinsing off. When even the referees aren't following the rules, as stated on the sign there, it's not a great sign. All this isn't exactly appetizing. I've lived abroad and traveled quite a bit, and there's a cultural aspect to this. In France, skipping the pre-swim shower is unthinkable. In Iceland, someone actually supervises your scrub-down before you're allowed into the hot pots. In Mexico City, where I swim in a private gym akin to the JCC, it's definitely enforced. In Japan--forget about it. I've raised this three times with Steve Miller, the director of health and wellness. His view is that they add enough chlorine to kill the germs and that people should know better, but there's no real way to enforce it--lifeguards need to watch the pool, not police showering. (Though they do other distracted things like testing the water.) His proposed solution has been new signage--but who knows when? And I'm skeptical a sign will succeed where social norms have failed. It comes down to education. Most people in the pool where caps, for instance. Why? That's what they were told. So, why not tell them to shower? It's simply a matter of priorities, which this doesn't seem to be. Maybe I'm the only one who cares--based on the evidence, that might be true. But for a place that does so many things right, this one issue, for me, is hard to ignore.
