Used to eat here before the hurricane, quite possibly the best fried chicken I've ever had. It broke my heart when the hurricane shut them down, now six years later they are back open. The place is nice, they rebuilt well. I could not tell if they staff was friendly of not, they were way to busy frying chicken and making that money! The pices of chicken are ample, juicy and have nice spice that starts out as oh a little spicy! On the first bite and gets stronger as you take more bites, but it all goes away once you take a drink. What this means to the average Joe is that you can keep the perfect amount of heat as you eat just by judicious application of drink. The service was great. We noticed online that Ball's Fried Chicken had reopened their business, but now on Enterprise Boulevard just north of Broad. I enjoyed the fried chicken but the chicken was too spicy for my wife's taste. We usually order regular and spicy at fried chicken establishments and I don't think Ball's plans to change their famous recipe which I don't think they should. Went to Balls nr2 for the first time in quite a while to get chicken for my granddaughter and was disgusting. The chicken was fried to a consistency of crispy cardboard. One leg was a fried bone. All the meat was missing. I should have taken it back but wouldn't be worth the gas or time. Next time she needs to find another place. read more

Ever since my husband was told to try the Fish Burger, he's been hooked on this place. We had given up on it when we first tried it a couple years ago, the chicken was bland and dry. Now, it's the complete opposite. The red beans go fairly quick but some times they'll still have some for dinner. I ventured away from the Fish Burger and fried chicken and tried a porkchop. Unfortunately, it was inedible due it being over salted (and I like salt). I'll just stick to the 2 things I know are good. Also definitely get the chicken if your sinuses are clogged.. This is just as good as the original Ball's Fried Chick-N. It's a little bit smaller, but not as busy. This location also serves pecan candy better known as pralines. Also, there is a drive thru. If you're on this side of town, treat yourself. read more

When coming to Lake Charles, we visited Balls Chicken on commons months ago. This chicken was so great!! When returning Friday, July 6, we were surprised that the menu prices have increased. So for an 8 piece of chicken they want $17.59?? Or $17, something.. ? It's good, fresh, but I analyze over head, and it's not calculating right. Other than that.... It's your choice. This was my first experience with Ball's Fried Chicken. I ordered to-go, so I can't comment on the facilities. The chicken skin was very crispy without being overly breaded, and the meat was very juicy. The hit the perfect spice level! The red beans and rice was very flavorful with a little kick on the back end. The only thing I would add is some sausage; then it may rival my mom's! Overall, I had a very good experience. Went in here for the first time with my daughter on a Wednesday for lunch. The floors were dirty, the tables were dirty, the walls were dirty, the windows were dirty, and the air vents were dirty. I should have taken that as a bad sign and left, but we were starving and in a hurry so we stayed against our better judgement. Big mistake. The cashier took forever to acknowledge us even though we were the only customers inside the building, and when she finally did, we still didn't get a smile. While I was standing in front of the counter waiting for her to fill 2 drinks before finally handing my credit card back, another employee walked up behind me and made it clear I was in her way of lifting the counter to get behind it, without actually smiling or even saying excuse me. When we finally got to sit down at a table, it's a good thing we hadn't been given any straws with our lidded cups, because once my daughter lifted her lid out of the way to take a drink, she found a dead bug floating right on top of the water. (I opted out of drinking mine at all and made a trip to the car to get my own water bottle for my use.) My daughter ordered a 3-piece dark chicken with potato salad and I ordered a cheeseburger with red beans and rice. The chicken consisted of 2 legs and 1 thigh, all of which were some of the smallest pieces of chicken I've seen that wasn't a buffalo wing. I tried one bite of the thigh and it was so spicy I opted out of taking any more bites. My daughter said the legs were milder and she actually enjoyed them, even mentioning how juicy they were, but she only choked down the rest of the overly spicy thigh because she was starving. (To my eyes, the chicken looked like it was fried in old grease on too low of a heat which would definitely make them "juicy" alright.) My daughter said the potato salad tasted good, but when she tried to take her first bite, the plastic fork couldn't really manage it until she stabbed it in, and then all of the potato salad lifted up out of the styrofoam cup as one unit, so I was pretty skeptical of it since I prefer a soft potato salad. My cheeseburger was delicious, but still wasn't good enough to make me go back just for that since I can easily get better local burgers elsewhere. The red beans and rice wasn't mixed up well and by the time I got it mixed was pretty mushy so it wasn't my fave either. I definitely wouldn't eat here again, but especially not in the dining room. If you're feeling brave and adventurous, I recommend sticking to the drive-thru, provide your own drink, and try ordering a burger. read more

I went to this establishment at 8:15, they did not come to the window until 8:35 to let us know they were not frying anymore chicken!!!! What??? The place does not close until 9.... so we then asked her why would you let us wait 20 minutes just to say that they were NOT FRYING anymore chicken because she was there since 7:00 a.m. As a customer... a faithful one you should never tell them how long you have been at work that is not my problem nor any customers problem. This place looks absolutely disgusting. You can peer into the kitchen from where you order, and you can see that it's no exception. One time the roof was leaking after some rain. I really don't know how this place passes any health inspection. Regardless, it is hands down the best fried chicken I've eaten in my entire life. The chicken is cooked to perfection, and the skin is seasoned with a perfect amount of spice for an enjoyable kick. The greatness doesn't stop there. All the sides are better than the next (except the onion rings. for a lack of better description, they sucked). The burgers are good too.
