Finally tried Leonard's from a coworker's recommendation and we really enjoyed it. My wife and I shared the seafood platter and we couldn't eat it all. There was enough food to feed at least one more person. The fried catfish filets were huge. The fried shrimp and french fries were both good. The standout was the seafood pasta; that stuff was way better than we thought it would be. Didn't care for the fried seafood balls or whatever they were because it looked like it had yellow rice in them. But it was a cool place to visit and we will go back. read more

This place is wow. I mean I. The sense that I've passed this place to eat a mediocre placed many times. Leonard's is a good spot for southern Cajun food. I had an amazing lunch special with a fried pork chop and red beans. It is very homey and feels like an old school eatery. They had a lot of choices. I saw people getting all different plates. When ours came it was as heavy as two plates maybe even three. I had left overs and I ate it a few hours later. It was good the second time also. I'll tell you this if you are a passing through stop in it's amazing. read more

The dinners are a good value and could be enough to feed two people or for one person to eat a decent amount and still have leftovers for the next day. My husband had the seafood combo and I had the beef tips in gravy. He found the flavor of the étouffée a bit lacking, but he enjoyed the rest of his meal. The beef tips had a few pieces that were too fatty or were overcooked, but overall it was good and was definitely comfort food. Staff members were polite. Negatives: The dining area was closed even though the restaurant was still open for another hour. We were on a road trip, and these were not meals that were easy to eat sitting in the car. Also, there was a sign inside that only dinners were available after 7:00 PM. I had looked at the menu while we were on our way and was not planning to order a full plate/dinner, so I would have appreciated if that was noted on the menu the restaurant has linked on their site. We would go again but likely order different items (and I guess maybe go at a different time of day). read more

My family and I came here for my Mom's birthday and it did not disappoint! The food was rich and very flavorful! Portions were also good for the price. The line was a pretty long when we got there but the workers were very efficient, so the line went by fast! The decor, smells, and sounds really made it feel like a true Cajun restaurant! Ok so when you walk in you are right there at the ordering counter. Whether you are eating there or taking it to go. I ordered the fried pork chop, red beans and rice and double garlic bread because I'm not a fan of potato salad. My little one had fried jumbo shrimp and fries. Even when dining there your food comes in Togo plates. Given the amount of food I wasn't upset about it. I fried pork chop was something to write about!!! I was given rice and gravy instead of red beans and rice but hey who is going to complain about gravy. It was good and the little one loved her shrimp. read more

Wow. 6/5. If you're in the area and looking for authentic, slap ya momma good Cajun food. This place is it. You can tell the recipes have been passed down from generations so you know it'll be good. I had the fried shrimp poorboy sandwich, with jalapeño mayo. The combo (fries and drink) was $19 and change. Not the best, nor the worst sandwich I've had in the area--kind of low-average. As far as breakfast I was sooo disappointed with what I got, I paid $20+ for 2 orders. I got small 2 microwave pancake to me a child probably would enjoy and not complain but for 2 grown men who was hungry it's a piss off. I called to complain about the order they put the blame on Door Dash I just asked why wouldn't they state that on their menu the girl hung up in my face , no explanation I called back and the other girl said Door Dash make up their menu, I need to call door dash and complain to them. read more

I stopped in here with a friend for an early supper on a Wednesday night. There wasn't a line so we were able to order at the counter right away. I ordered the Smothered Beef Tips with Rice, Gravy, Garlic Bread and Green Beans. It was served in a styrofoam to-go box even though we were dining in. I soon realized why. The portions were very large. Neither one of us could finish our food. We brought about half of it home and there was conviently a place to grab a plastic grocery bag to bag our boxes up on the way out. The Rice, Gravy and Garlic Bread were delicious, but the Tips were a tad on the dry side and the Green Beans were stringy and did not have enough salt in them so I had to bury them in the Gravy to eat them. I did enjoy the bits of sausage that were added to Green Beans though. I would go back, but I would definitely order a different side. read more

Went with my dad and got the lunch plate. It's a solid choice for sure. You will not leave hungry at all the fish is fried perfectly and the shrimp with the étouffée sauce is great. Not usually a fan of potato salad,but theirs was pretty good ( I like a mustard base). The service was quick and friendly no issues at all and it's old school so you pick a table and get to eating as they bring you sour food. Honestly I know I'll be back when I'm coming through Lake Charles. read more

Went here for breakfast with a coworker. She goes to this place semi regularly and LOVES it. While the biscuits was good and bacon was cooked well, the eggs were a little soft/watery. Parking lot in front is a bit challenging but manageable. The place was clean and the people were kind. read more

I was working in Lake Charles for a few weeks and I read an article on the Owner and his two sons, who ran Leonard's. I decided to give it a try on a Saturday morning, b/c in my mind, THAT's when most brunch spots would make the most serving customers. Low and behold, 'they regular folks and take off just like the rest of us....and there's nothing wrong with that. I was so dead set on eating there, that I returned the following week on a Friday. I had something basic like the Catfish and it was decent. Nothing bad to say, but when I'm in that part of the country, I have high expectations, both for the freshness of the seafood and the preparation. I didn't have a bad visit, I just didn't taste anything to return for, but I will, b/c I believe they have to do some thing better than fried fish. read more

Mannnnnnn, if you are ever in Lake Charles, this a must stop! I have had good food across this country and other countries, this place has to be in the top 10 as for a good home cooked meal with large portions, flavor tasting and season food. This place represents Louisiana food just as New Orleans. The service was great and the ambience reminds me of home town clean cafe. Loved the fact that the restaurant and restrooms were clean. If you're in Lake Charles, La, treat yourself to a GREAT home cooked style meal. Also don't forget the sweet potato pie! I will always return when I set foot in Lake Charles La. This seems to be a local eatery that is well worth your time to find and we found it based on their Yelp ratings, which they totally deserve. We tried the etouffee, one with shrimp and the other with crawfish, and I can only say both were exceptional. We really should've split one plate because we brought a full plate back. They have dine in, drive-through or order and pick up. I highly recommend this establishment and will certainly be back the next time we are in this area. read more

This place is a gem! I had the liver and onions...I know, I know....that's not everyone's favorite thing, BUT I will say this- I have never had liver like this before! The sweet potato cake is to die for! I also purchased a sweet potato pie so that I can see if I like it better than the cake. We ordered a fried pork chop plate, and it was very disappointing. The red beans and rice had no flavor and the pork chop was mostly bone. I will be back again for the cake, but probably not the food. read more

For breakfast, this is basically. McDonald's. No table service. All disposables. Bus your own table. Good basic coffee but bad styrofoam cups with flimsy lids. Frozen hash brown patties. Prepackaged frozen sausage patties. Scrambled eggs out of a carton. We tossed it all in the trash. read more

ShaDay told us that the owner makes all the jams herself and rotates the flavors out periodically. The owner deserves an award for those jams because my husband licked those little ramekins clean; it was that good. I'm grateful ShaDay brought us another jam too, so I could also enjoy the jam with my food; that's how quick he finished off his jam. I had the F Biscuit which was just as flavorful and delicious. The F Biscuit is a breakfast sandwich where they dip the biscuits in French toast batter then grill it before putting the sandwich altogether with fried eggs, cheese, bourbon bacon onion jam, and a sausage link (or substitute for chicken, which I did and it was a great choice.) The grilled oysters were topped with chopped peppers and bacon bits - came out hot and the oysters were plump and big! Very very tasty! It was about 30$ for a dozen oysters - so quite affordable for the size of oysters. Great bite and starter. I ordered the Atchafalaya, which had fried catfish and crawfish etouffee gravy smothered on top. The rice was a bit underdone which made the over taste of the dish not as cohesive. The crawfish pieces were abundant, but slightly mushy. The sweet potato fried side dish that came with the dish was perfect though - soft interior and slightly crisp exterior. The portion size was huge and I wasn't able to finish the dish. I'd definitely recommend trying the oysters on the menu, and next time, I'll need to try the fresh oysters!
