My long-awaited visit to Baltoz is over and they will forever be in my repertoire for pizza and baked goods in Towson. Driving down York Road one day I decided let me finally make a pit stop into Baltoz. An open space counter to see some of the magic in the kitchen, no frills to the restaurant, but a warm and inviting atmosphere for hanging out and enjoying a delicious pizza for dinner. All of the baked goods displayed on the counter entice you to indulge in a sweet treat before ordering a pizza. My first visit I just settled on some cookies and a jalapeno cheddar bagel, since I was on my way elsewhere for dinner. But let me tell you how the chocolate chip cookie instantly became one of my favorite bakery cookies. And the bagel was decadent for my morning breakfast, covered in cheddar cheese with those crispy edges that bake at the base of the bagel. On my second visit I settled on their corn pizza since it was a different flavor combination, and it tasted like a slice of summer. Corn, basil, and ricotta, and you can't go wrong. And the staff has always been really pleasant with each visit. I'm a sucker for baked goods and a wood-fire pizza and I can say Baltoz has stolen my heart. I'm looking forward to trying more of their rotational baked items. And I know for certain their pepperoni pizza has to be a showstopper. read more

Definitely some of the best pizza in the Baltimore area. Not sure why it's a bakery and cafe, but I'd say they are definitely a pizzeria. It's always best to place your order online in advance so you don't have to wait around 20 minutes. There's some bar seating available inside the restaurant but additional tables available outside. They sell thicker slices displayed as well. You can't go wrong with any of their pizzas. I've been here a few times, but recently got their vodka slice. Had to eat a couple of slices fresh out the box, before I brought the rest home. Those two slices were "molto buona"! read more

Loved the vegan pizza - probably the best I've ever had. Instead of fake cheese and fake meat they make this with a white bean base and top it with a variety of veggies that still maintain a crunch and a bit of pesto. The crust was perfect - toppings did not slide off. Also tried a Sicilian slice but that was too bready for me with not enough sauce. Saving my cardamom bun for the morning to go with my coffee. Best. Pizza. In Baltimore. I'm almost livid that nobody told me about the best pizza in Baltimore and it's close to my home!! Been there for three years in Anneslie, near the bowling alley, and it's clearly a bakery first, pizza place second. I might have been lucky that my pizza took only 30 minutes from order to pick-up, because I saw some reviews where it was an 'hours' kinda waitlist. Maybe a lazy late Saturday evening order time helped? And the ambiance is bakery. Smells like it, setup like it, has a little patio space- all terrific and serviceable for folks to chill. The crust. The CRUST! The perfect undercarriage, the crispness of each bite, the solid sourdough taste. Magnificent. The sauce is lite and balanced so well with the cheese. Hint of sweetness in the sauce and rich smooth mozzarella. I got the supreme and the toppings were all delicious. I will be back to try every one. Was not expecting to have the best bagel of my entire life here. I was expecting good pizza, since you can normally expect a bakery to have good pizza, any place that knows how to execute good dough tends to do good za. It had good char, very good sauce and solid pepperoni. The sourdough rosemary and sea salt bagel however, was AMAZING. I didn't know bagels could taste that good, have that much springiness, or have such a nice crispy exterior texture contrasted with such a soft interior texture. Anytime I'm in the Towson area I plan to make a stop there to pick up bagels. The cookies were good and the chicken pizza looked really good. Will need to try it next time as well. read more

The sparse interior lends itself to an interesting organic meets industrial feel which is pretty interesting, but that doesn't have anything to do with the delicious pizza. We were craving pizza, but didn't want standard chain pizza. After a quick search, we decided on giving Baltoz Bakery & Café a go. Turns out, this hidden gem is one block up from one of my favorite ice cream places (The Creamery) on York Road. Easy peasy. Upon entering, granted it was close to closing, the interior is quite sparse. Not sure how long they've been there but it's a very clean space. The people that work there are young, but they came across pretty proficient at what they were doing. The young lady that helped us answered all our questions and made some good recommendations. We opted for the following: CHEESE SICILIAN SLICE: I was so happy to have a slice of Sicilian. As a native NYer, coming across a place that has a 'good' Sicilian slice down here in the DMV, has been quite a rarity. Baltoz did not disappoint. Thick slice. The naturally made sauce with fresh tomatoes had great flavor, delicious stringy mozzarella, and basil leaves. SCORE!! MUSHROOM PIZZA: We decided to split a Mushroom Pizza - made w/ Tomato (or cream available) sauce, mozzarella, a WONDERFUL MUSHROOM MEDLEY of [cremini, shiitake, and oyster mushrooms], a healthy serving of arugula, chive, parmesan and EVOO (olive oil). The crust was a perfect brick oven pizza crust. The fold-ability was NY-worthy (lol - ya GOTTA fold the slice to eat it right!). For a meatless pizza, the Mushroom was satisfying and filling. A few days ago, my husband and I ordered pizza from Baltoz. We were excited that this restaurant had opened in our neighborhood. We ordered two pizzas--the mushroom and the vegetarian. Both were the worst pizzas we've ever had. The pizza crust was so mushy that we had to fold it in two to eat it so that the topping wouldn't fall off. The toppings were bland. Baked breads, bagels, and desserts are also available. Small amount of inside seating with some outdoor seating when the weather is nice. Excellent pizza! We have ordered from here twice and have enjoyed the pies each time. Each time, the pizzas were ready for the pick-up time we selected. We have had the mushroom pie, once with the cream sauce and once with their tomato sauce. Both were excellent, but we preferred the tomato sauce. We also had their cheese pizza, which had great flavor and is more than just sauce and cheese. On our recent visit we had their cream corn pizza and added spinach and hot honey. Both were welcome additions! The crust on all the pizzas is flavorful and crisp, with a nice thickness of a little more than a neopolitan pizza. Great value as well as the pizzas are huge. They heat up really well in the toaster oven the next day. Baltoz also has sourdough loaves and cookies. Haven't had either yet (with the exception of the sourdough crust of the pizza) but they look delightful. Can't wait to return as we make our way through the whole list of pizza options. read more

This is the best Pizza in Baltimore by far! The crust is thin and crispy and it's absolutely delicious! If you haven't gone, now's the time to go check it out. It's a small hole in the wall, with limited seating for grab and go customers. But I've never made it back to the car without having a slice. And another on the drive back home. The guys working there are nice and they give you a specific pick up time when you place your order online so it's always fresh and hot and ready when you arrive. A newer spot that was featured on one of the local food IG sites. Interesting they open at 4:30 given they are partially billed as a Bakery. Small spot and basically it's pickup or delivery only for now as I didn't see any tables inside. You get a wood fire burning aroma when you walk in which was cool and unexpected. Wasn't sure what to order and couldn't tell what size the pizza was from the website (comes in one size only option) Turned out to be 16 inch pies. Ordered a Supreme and we loved it! Thinner crust so you get the slight sour dough taste, generous portions of spicy cup pepp and house sausage were tasty and played nicely with the roasted peppers. They had Sicilian style slices which reminded me of some of the pizza spots in NYC. Pepperoni, Arrabbiata and Plain (Margherita). With the thicker crust, you definitely get that tangy sourdough taste. We enjoyed all three. Also, saw some pastries (sweet/savory), cookies and Bread. Got the Chocolate as well Cinnamon Cardamom Babkas. I'm usually a Chocolate only Babka fan but their Cinnamon/Cardamom stole the show. I saw a sea salt chocolate cookie that looked enticing-next time. As other Yelpers have written, you can order online before they open at 4:30 (not sure how much before opening they take orders). On a Friday, I ordered our pizza at 4 and the pick up time was 5:55 and was actually ready at 5:45. Service was upbeat and engaged. I first noticed Baltoz Bakery and Cafe during one of our visits to the Charmery. The building was empty but looked like it was in the process of coming. Over the next couple months I began following their Instagram account and came across an article about the owner and his sourdough pizza recipes. All of this just hyped the place even more. But the limited hours and Mondays and Tuesdays being closed made it difficult to get there (I completely understand though, it is one man doing all the pastries and pizzas as far as I can tell). Finally, after a Sunday afternoon birthday party in a neighboring establishment, we were in the area during their open hours. The door says Baltoz opens at 4:00. It was probably 4:03 when we left the party and pulled on their door. Locked. Drat! Foiled again. We started to leave when the woman running the checkout area rushed over and unlocked it. She apologized and escorted us in. That smell! We were greeted with the smell of fresh baked sourdough. Around the register were loaves of bread and pastries. While we were really there to try the pizza, my family couldn't resist the baked goods and bread. So we left with some of those as well. As far as pizza goes, I ordered the vegan pizza on the menu, my kids got a cheese one and my wife ordered the sweet corn and cherry tomato. We were informed that it would be 20-30 minutes so we left to do some grocery shopping. We returned 30 minutes later and the pizzas were not yet done. It was an additional five to ten minutes before our order was up. Problematic? Maybe. But someone at Baltoz snuck an extra pastry into our box, I can only imagine as compensation for the wait. The vegan pizza consists of Tuscan white bean sauce, roasted red pepper and walnut pesto, zucchini, peppers, onion, kalamata olives, cherry tomatoes, extra virgin olive oil and thyme. This isn't your standard vegan cheese, sauce or vegan meat pizza. These items were specially grouped together because of how they enhance and contrast each other. Paired with the sourdough crust, this was an excellent pizza. The corn and tomato pizza consists of cream of sweet corn sauce, fresh and low mozzarella, cherry tomatoes, parmesan, basil and olive oil. The ingredients in this one were also selected because of how they fit together. My wife had the same reaction I did. It was an excellent pizza. My kids weren't really into their cheese pizza. I contribute this to the fact that they aren't super adventurous. They are happy with chain pizza places. Baltoz's is not cheap. We left with a bill that was very large. But good sourdough takes time. I felt with the amount of food we got, the size of those products and the time and effort put in to making them, the price made sense. You will find cheaper elsewhere. You won't necessarily find better. The pastries and sourdough were excellent. The pizzas, great! Because of how good the product is, Baltoz's has earned five stars even though there are/were some kinks to be worked out. read more

The pizza is my favorite! But, they don't make it clear that most customers prefer-order, so that when they open at 4, your nearest pickup time can be 2 or more hours later. The parking for pickup is hazardous. Just tonight I spent 15 minutes looking for a spot and both another woman and I were nearly hit by red light running cars while using the lit crosswalk to pickup our food. And, we're expected to tip for the privilege. I don't mind tipping, but I resent being asked to tip before I know what the service is or the quality of my food. At restaurants, servers make sub minimum wage and depend on tips for their salary.. Counter and kitchen staff make at least minimum wage. AND they have NO phone in case you need to check on your order. They can make such simple steps. The food is good but the experience is a hassle. read more

This new pizza joint is the truth, I enjoyed it thoroughly.. Probably has shot up to my personal favorite and I do have a roster. It doubles as a bakery, limited baked goods if you will, so picked up some babka.. I think the flavors I purchased were cinnamon and Choclate, both were excellent. As a pizza aficionado who has eaten at Pizzeria Bianco, Mozza, New Haven, etc., having something like Baltoz in the Towson area is a gift from heaven. Easily the best pizza near us, and worth a longer drive honestly. Yes, the wait can be longer on weekends, but I've had it delivered within an hour on a weekday.
