I discovered this thrift shop by accident when I found a Kate Spade mini tote bag from their shop on Etsy. I haven't been to the physical location in Oakland but would like to one day. They did a great job packing and quickly shipping the tote bag. The purchase was kind of funny for a couple reasons. One, I thought it was a vintage bag because I didn't know you could resell newer items on Etsy that are not handmade. It looked vintage to me, so I didn't question it, but it turned out the bag is from a few years ago. No big deal. Second, I didn't pay attention to the bag's measurements or the word "mini" in the title. I had to laugh when I took it out of the box. It's so tiny. It looks like it will maybe fit my phone, wallet, keys, and that's about it. I was expecting it to be much bigger, but that's totally my fault for not paying attention. The tote bag is in excellent new condition with the tag still attached. It also came with a detachable long strap. I'm not sure what I will do with it because its teeny size feels too small for me, but it's an awfully cute bag. read more

Such a cute and well decorated thrift store! The staff were so welcoming as we entered letting us know of their sales and any discounts right away. It's on the smaller side but so well compacted that you could definitely find some gems after sifting through each section. From $.75 t-shirts, unopened board games, to a $500 Italian leather jacket! I do wish there was more of a clothing selection in this store but it was more fun looking at the random Knick knacks all around the store. read more

I happened to stumble upon this cute, small store while searching for street parking. At first i thought it was an antique store but found out it is a thrift store with proceeds going to Children's Hospital in Oakland. Talk about guilt-free shopping knowing what you buy goes to a great cause! I am about to buy a nice chair that looks superficially dirty...definitely, NOT BART seat dirty (stains, smells, and who knows what?!) thank goodness!...im hoping to clean it up and use it for my bedroom. I sat in it and feels so comfortable at a great price of $50. Maybe when i get ambitious enough, i'll re-upholster it myself... The staff here has been very accommodating and wonderful. Lee, the manager and Nitz (i hope i got the spelling right!) have been a gem at holding this item for me until i can target that friend with an SUV. Bambino is probably the cleanest and best organized thrift shop I've ever patronized. The staff is pleasant and helpful - quite a change from the now-closed Alta Bates shop down the street on College. When I was there yesterday they had a display honoring Chinese New Year, featuring all sorts of Asian crafts and decorative items. The housewares section featured a juicer, an espresso maker, stand mixer, waffle iron, percolator - a wide variety of items in great shape, super clean and well priced. As usual, I gravitated towards the cookbook section in an effort to find something new for my wacky vintage cookbook collection. Major score - a cookbook from Reynolds Wrap entitled "Cooking With Aluminum Foil" circa 1963 and a Hare Krishna cookbook from 1987! Love it! It's definitely worth a trip to check out Bambino and the bonus is that it supports a great cause. read more

As with any store that relies on donations from the local community as it's merchandise, any visit is 'hit or miss'. What I love: a. helpful staff that greet you with smiles and 'Welcomes'; b. the free bin in front of the store. I don't always find a 'treasure' but appreciate it, none the less; c. well-presented merchandise, often in a holiday or other theme; d. quality items, ie. rarely chips, stains, cracks, rust, etc., unlike other larger thrift stores; e. usually good selection of kitchen/dining ware, and many unique items (I heard, but cannot prove, that Sur la Table donates here occasionally...I was with a friend when she scored an amazing roasting pan for half-price..tags still on)! I drop off grocery and other reusable bags to them about once a month, and 75% of the time, I find at least one 'must-have' item. Today, I spent $56 on 3 sandstone drink coasters ($1 each...in specialty stores $20/4), 4 cool butterfly-shaped individual sauce dishes ($1 each), 2 Japan-labeled square hand-painted ceramic plaques/dishes (one awesome fish and one a crab...reds, oranges and yellows...$15/pair) and 1 vintage Red Wing bean/chicken pot ($25). If you have been to a Salvation Army or Goodwill in the last 10 years, you know that the prices in many thrifts are exorbitant today compared to the 25 cent items we may have grown up with. I appreciate that the items at Bambino's aren't just trash...if there is a flaw, they list it on the price tag, and I don't have to waste my time 'looking for flaws'. read more

A small thrift store in the Rockridge neighborhood. It's an interesting name for a thrift shop.. I thought it was someone's name but I checked the dictionary of what the word "Bambino" means and it says: 1. plural usually bambini : a representation of the infant Christ 2. child, baby makes sense since this place benefits the Children's Hospital of Oakland. It's really a hit or miss here like any thrift store. I've found brand new books, forks and spoons, vintage purses, etc.. They also have a good selection of children clothes and toys. The only thing is I think the fabric is overpriced. The people there are very nice and helpful. They put out seasonal items like holiday cards and decor during christmas and right now they have Valentine's Day wrapping, cards, and stuffed animals. read more

To start, it is great that the proceeds go to the children's hospital and most of the kid's clothing and toys are priced very reasonably compared to other thrift stores in the area. That is why I am rating it 2 stars instead of 1. The staff however are a mixed assortment. If you are a younger person shopping be prepared for patronizing staff and being talked down to. I was admonished by staff when my child dropped their bottle, mind you the bottle did not spill anything it just fell from the stroller and lay on the floor. My spouse was rebuked for bringing in a dripping umbrella and felt the need to wait outside on another occasion. I understand that a store can have policies, but there are different ways to communicate the same message and unfortunately some of the people who work there choose to speak condescendingly in order to enforce them; It seems like they feel they are doing you a favor for letting you shop at their store. Others of the staff are very kind, but the negative experiences I have had with a handful of staff are enough to sour me on this thrift store. I personally find it sorrowful how some people who are supposed to be running a charity do not know how to be gracious, particularly sad because the cause is good, and this place is mostly run by senior citizens whom one would expect to have learned to be kinder over the years. Alas, you have about a 50/50 chance of being chewed-out for some arbitrary thing on any given day when you go there. Might still be worth the trip if you have a thicker skin. They have a nice selection of Christmas ornaments around the holidays. Good luck! read more

Great, clean items and some great labels for a thrift shop! They definitely take pride in their merchandise, and the staff is very friendly. I found an incredible sequin skirt back in December that is still my favorite thrift find of all time, and it was like $20! Not super cheap for a thrift store, but totally fair and everything there is totally worth it. Pro tip- come around Christmas time and the shop is transformed into a winter wonderland! This is an excellent little thrift store - it's super tidy and well organized with a really choice assortment of goodies. The staff are very friendly and do fun things - like right before Christmas, they covered up the windows and decorated, bringing out all the xmas bling and goodies - they really go the extra mile and seem to have a lot of fun doing it. Was just there today; it had been a few years. Good selection of kids' toys & clothes, and I also liked how there was all sorts of Easter stuff out including a section of kids' Easter stuff in the kids' section (genius!). However, everything seems a bit on the high side to me - an example is greeting cards for $1. Ouch. I had picked out 6, but when I found the price, only bought 2. Not a huge selection of women's clothes, but overall well organized and fun to browse. Worth a stop if you're in the neighborhood but I wouldn't make a special trip. read more

Great housewares section that kept me busy for some time. I was torn between two trench coats and a woman at the counter was so sweet helping me decide which one to buy. I always find cute and useful things here. From art supplies to kitchenware, to gently used clothing, I always find a bargain on something I need. I stop in about once a week because they're constantly getting new donations. Two bucks for records? Kinda pricey, no? It's a thrift store, right, not an old lady shoppe that sells $22 scarves? Strange hours and way out there pricing schemes, but courteous staff and a clean store. It seems like they're closed way more than they should be, bizarre hours... Not on my list of good spots to pillage, but I did find an Ohio Players record in decent condition that I've never seen before. I already bought it though, there's nothing left. read more

this place is pretty tiny, i find it hard to believe they really make any money. i was in the neighborhood a coupla weekends ago, looking for used furniture for my new place, and saw a few ladies standing around outside the door. so we parked and walked over. these women were literally clapping their hands and bouncing up and down, they were so happy that the doors were opening. i guess we had happened upon the $3 bag day, whatever clothes you could fit in the bag were 3$. this little cluster of older women (none younger than 50) were crowding the 6 tiny racks of clothes, ripping shirts off the rack. the clothes selection was pretty boring, mostly pretty generic womens and mens practical shirts and coats. i couldnt even squeeze past the biddies to look, but what i saw didnt impress me. still, the place seemed kind of homey. and the old ladies working the register were friendly. their profits go to children's hospital of oakland. read more

I like this small thrift store-- the ladies that work here are always very nice. A big plus is also that proceeds benefit Oakland Children's Hospital! And although it's hit or miss, it's well organized so I am in and out! Store hours are not very convenient as they are only open until 3pm I believe and are closed Sundays. There are great finds here, if you stop by regularly and look around. You can find practical things and also fun things. Plus all of the profits go to Childrens Hospital. The ladies who work here all volunteer and they're very nice. I have found tops, jeans, books, nice accessories for my house, such as baskets, picture frames, prints, vases, and candles, as well as dishes, pots, coffee cups, small appliances. This is a great little shop, with everything for infant to adult in the way of clothing. They have wonderful jewelry and kitchen items as well as decorative items for all the holidays thru out the year. Items are usually competively priced and occassionaly I find a really great deal. This friendly little place is fun just to browse because things change constantly but if you are a serious shopper the great finds that make it all worthwhile just come from time to time, enough to keep you going. My all time finds have been a gorgeous Marchese cocktail dress, silk with heavily embellished collar of rhinestones--this must have cost thousands at Neiman Marcus or Saks years ago. I also found the pair of Frye boots I have always wanted, worth a couple hundred and they fit me exactly, a wide width. I paid maybe $20 or $30 for the dress and maybe $20 for the boots. If you get there after an estate sale, that's the higher end probably. This week I overheard the clerk say they are turning away clothing donations, nobody in Rockridge wants clothes, they want household items. read more

This place can be a score at times, but for the most part I don't really find stuff here. It seems to be the place to find jewelry and house knick knacks. I was about to flip my lid on my last visit after walking 5 blocks (due to no parking) and dropped off my donations and soon after heard the ladies complain they have too many donations and they would not accept any more that day. Personally, that day seemed to be the best selection of items I have ever seen in the store so its usually pretty low on items. Note to store: stick with more goods and more money shall come in to the store. read more

Love this place! As any thirft store you hafta search, but everything is organized that it's not hard to search when you are looking for something specific. I have found an Armani suit for work and some nice jackets. Also, has some good jewelry options and a good selection for kids stuff. I'm not in the market for good furniture, but they get some good pieces in there periodically but I notice they always go quick.
