Some great pieces at this thrift store! I keep coming here since we fell in love with a very old bar piece that was mainly used to keep plates etc and wasn't really for sale anymore and was just there in the corner holding stuff. It had this beach feeling so we quickly fell in love with it. Reasonably priced. We initially paid for transport (although it was too expensive for us) since we had no car but they were really nice to give us the money back when we found transport through a friend. Have had the bar piece for almost a year now and really love it. It is such good use to store all our drinking glass, alcohol, coffee machine and lost of storage inside for table covers and all random stuff you need to put away. The owner is really friendly and nice. They have new stuff coming in all the time so I keep coming to see if there's anything interesting to purchase. Recommend! read more

#64 I was out with a friend of mine yesterday and as we walked down Grand she noticed some cute jars in a store window. We decided to go in and take a look around the Urban Furniture store. We were greeted with two friendly, "Hello's" as we entered the establishment. We walked directly over to the jars and saw that they were reasonably priced, so we ventured to the counter to ask about purchasing them. The ladies were so helpful that worked there. I explained that we were unable to fit the large box of jars into my car and could we pay and send someone to retrieve them for us later in the day? The ladies said this would be absolutely no problem and they didn't mind holding them for us. She even took a discount off the jars, making them even cheaper. There were lots of people looking around and shopping in the large store while we were there. Urban Furniture has way more than just furniture. They had vintage clothing and shoes on the adjacent side of the shop. There were large pieces of furniture, small pieces, accent pieces and small odds and ends throughout the store. Later in the day when my friend brought my purchase to me he said, "The ladies are so nice at that place--I walked in and they knew exactly who I was and what I came for." Wow - this place is amazing. This area has a lot of vintage-y type overpriced spots and I thought this was another one. I was wrong! Looking forward to coming here regularly because I had a such a great experience. This is an actual thrift shop. They employ single mothers, so your money is going to a great cause. My service was professional and personable, so much so that I actually came back later the same day to bring donations. They can't really control the inventory as its donation-based, but they have quality, unique items. The price is right too! Just a reminder: places that take donations don't take everything. If you don't mind sifting through a diverse selection of goods, you can find some really interesting gems here. The prices are Goodwill-low, while the shopping experience is much more tidy & enjoyable. I recently found some adorable jade green tea cups for just 90 cents each. I don't even know where the "cents" sign on my keyboard is. I don't think they make one anymore... I've also donated some old furniture here. Drop-off is pretty simple -- just walk in, show them what you've got and, if your stuff is in good shape, they'll just take it and give you a tax donation form. Done! I found a cute shirt for just a dollar and my partner found a pair of shoes exactly her style. Two reasons for the poor rating: 1. I called ahead requesting prices for searched item. I was greeted politely and provided a price. When I arrived at the store, the female, "Amber" or "rose" greetings me a new price, which was 50 % higher than the price over the phone. 2. I'm shopping with my 5 year old son. He happens to need to use the restroom at some point during our shopping. This same woman tells us when we ask if there is a restroom, "no." simply that. She does not offer us any other recourse. I interrupt my purchase and tell her I'll be right back. I need to take him to the restroom. And I quote, her response was, "we are closing in 20 minutes," as she walks away. I left my merchandise on the counter and said, "again, I'd like to purchase these items, I'll return." After walking up the block to use the wine bar/cafe restroom, I returned to the store. She was as impolite as previous. I simply find the items average, and the service poor quality. There are better home consignment/reuse stores in the area. Won't be back. ...and, no, I didn't spend my money there, once I returned and she was as nasty as before.... read more

Everything is priced well and if you really love something, just talk to Tracey. She might offer you a deal. I go in weekly to see what new items have come in. I'm very pleased... I had just finished my bi-weekly trip to the nail salon when I crossed over to check out the Urban Furniture Store which I always seem to pass by but would never follow through. The Staff were very friendly and had THE BEST ambiance music playing. ( A lil' folk, a lil' soul, a lot of fun) I came across the best Burgundy Barco lounger and a wooden circular table and could not pass it up. I made plans to have it delivered the following week. My time slot was 10am-12pm... They arrived at 11:50am. The two Gents were very courteous and had everything in my Apartment in a timely manner. I tipped them $5 each for a "Super Frapp or a Jamba Juice to keep their spirits up and motivation to continue on with their day of delivering great goods with a GREAT mantra of helping single Mothers continue to take care of their kids while being productive members in society. And the fact that they DELIVER (for a fee of course) is also a BONUS. read more

I have walked in here several times while passing by the area. The sales rack they have outside is the only way i ever knew this is a store. There is no sign as far as i know... maybe i should look more carefully? When i walked in this store nobody greeted me and i didn't see any salespeople. Was anyone here? It's ok, i don't really mind not being greeted. Browsing by myself is cool too. The selection can be hit or miss. It's ok. Very average kind of stuff, might be able to find some gems here just have to look. The prices are very very reasonable and if you do find something here it will probably be super cheap. I think i may come back and browse some more sometimes. Maybe ill get lucky. This store is pretty much like a mini goodwill, but their policies are better. I went to Urban Furniture based on the enthusiastic reviews I read on Yelp, but personally I didn't find it very exciting. I am used to super-sized thrift stores, and this one seemed a bit small However I think the charitable mission is terrific -- empowering local single moms with support networks, learning opportunities, and job experience. What a thrift store has to offer is going to be variable from week to week, possibly from day to day. Since the items appeared very reasonably priced, I would be willing to go back and give this place a second shot. read more

Feel even better about your donations. When I took a bunch of decorative items/tchotchkes in, Tracy was so sincerely appreciative. And when I found out they're owned and operated by single moms to help other single moms, I felt like I directly helping. My husband and I are opening a bicycle business and we got most of our furniture from here. They have amazing vintage furniture for amazing prices, and the staff were friendly and polite. We had no problems bring our bicycle and cargo trailer into the warehouse, and among the pieces we bought were an antique card table and a record-playing sideboard table from the 50s or 60s. A Chef has to have furniture to right? Well, I am so thankful to have found this place. Let me start by complimenting the head of the store "Tracey". She is all about providing superior customer service. I will say that the other employees are being groomed to perform with the same level of excellence as as Tracey the manager. So, be patient if an employee doesn't greet you with the same enthusiasm and care as the manager does. The furniture and housing goods for sale are quality and worth the trip. Not mention that this location gets furniture donated throughout the day everyday. So every trip feels like Chriatmas. I whollfully recommend that anyone visit this store. Tracey is very outgoing and sensitive to the customers needs. Today she offered to text me pictures of newly shipped furniture to save me a trip to the store. I mean who does that? By the way, Tracey, has a story like we all do. She's more than just a furniture guru. She is an advocate for women and mothers. If you don't know her story...you might be missing something. It took them a whole week to deliver our chair (I guess that means they are busy, which is great for them!) Overall the experience was great. I have found some really good pieces here. The people are super friendly, Tracy is awesome, and its all for a good cause. You can't go wrong. Great furniture for a fraction of the price. They deliver for a small fee, the delivery guys were really nice and helped me carry a very heavy armoire up some stairs which they didn't have to but they are super nice. I check-in as often as I can because you never know when they are going to have a nice leather couch made by coach for sale. Love this place. read more

This is my favorite thrift store! It is not overwhelmingly large like many thrift stores. Not only do they have nice, and often more contemporary furniture than other thrift stores, they have a bit of home and kitchen decor, dinnerware and even a clothing boutique for women and men. And a nice collection of hardly worn shoes. The clothes are organized by color, which I like because it is easier on the eye. Shopping can tend to be a chore for me, so any store that can make my experience more pleasurable gets my business! If you plan to contribute something for their inventory don't plan to send them junk because they will just pass it on to one of the many thrift stores that don't have the high standards they have. It is on Grand Avenue near the Grand Lake Theatre, so when go to this store I go to other businesses in the Grand Ave/Lakeshore shopping district as well. It is SO much more enjoyable than the typical mall with look-alike chain stores. Their charity, Urban University, helps women who are welfare. read more

I had really high hopes for Urban Furniture but they scammed me out of $120. I purchased a dresser from them in March and paid $30 extra for delivery. Two weeks later, the delivery personnel arrived and brought the wrong item entirely. I told them I was traveling the next day (which is true) and they assured me they'd call me back when they returned to the warehouse and try to deliver the correct item that night. They never called. When I returned from my trip, I called them several times and left numerous voicemails. Nobody ever called me back. I ended up filing a claim with my bank which is now in process. I'm not saying this business is a scam or that you will be scammed, BUT THEY TOOK MY MONEY AND NEVER GAVE ME MY ITEM. Be cautious. read more

Like someone else who gave this place a bad review, I'm about to do it for the donation service. (I'm fine with the store and would probably shop there again, but never again will I donate to them.) We scheduled the pick-up about 2 weeks ago. They gave me a 2-hour window of 11:30-1:30. Based on this, I made an appointment at 2:00. I also have a party that I am supposed to be at right now. (It is 2:40 and they still have not come.) They have seriously ruined my Saturday afternoon that should have been a great day. Details: I called around 12:20, just because I hadn't heard from them to confirm the pick-up. I was told that the guy was going to contact the driver and that if he WASN'T on his way, I'd get a call back within 5 minutes. I never got a call back so I assumed the driver was on his way. So I waited. And waited. And waited. Around 1:35 I started calling again, because I had a 2:00 appointment and needed to leave. No one answered the phone, it went straight to a very long voice mail. I left a message which was never returned. Finally around 2:15 I was able to get someone on the phone. She put me on hold to call the driver but couldn't get through to him, so she said she'd call me back as soon as she did. About 15 or 25 minutes later she called back, said she had talked to the driver, that he had tried to call me and I hadn't answered so he had gone on to the next stop, and that he was going back to the store to unload and then would come to my house. Mind you, this is already an hour after the window they gave me closed. A couple of things...1.) He NEVER called me. I have been waiting since 11:30 with my phone beside me the entire time, and it has not rung, and there have been no missed calls. Wouldn't I know, since I keep trying to call the store to figure out what's going on! 2) Since I called at 12:20 to check on their ETA, why would the driver not think I would be home for them to pick up the armchair? 3) If he really had called and not gotten through, why would he not have left a message? It's just total bulls**t. I'm furious. She said it would take him about 10 minutes to get back to the store, another 30 minutes to unload, and then he would be on his way to my house. Which means that, assuming nothing takes a minute longer than she said, he couldn't possibly be at my house any sooner than about 3:15. And this is when my window was 11:30-1:30, I was NEVER called to be told they were running late...I've already had to cancel one appointment and I probably won't even make it to the party I'm supposed to be going to, and nobody can give me a good reason why, other than to make up some lie about having tried to call me and me not answering. I chose to donate to this place because I like the store, I liked the people I met working there and I like the mission. Never in my wildest dreams did I think I'd end up wasting my entire beautiful, sunny Saturday sitting around my house waiting for them to come. I guess I should have known from another review here on Yelp where the same thing happened. I hate writing this terrible review because I am a nice, patient person and it's not that easy to make me mad. But this is ridiculous. I got an apology from the lady I talked to, but it didn't sound very heartfelt, and I felt most of the conversation involved making excuses for the driver not showing up. How hard is it to CALL if you're not going to be on time? I would still have been annoyed, I'm sure, since I had plans, but at least I would have known what was going on and could have rearranged my plans accordingly. So irritated. I will never, ever donate here again and I may not even want to go back there to shop after this experience. Since this has obviously been an issue before in the past, you would have thought they would have fixed this issue by now. But no. read more

I left work early and crossed a bridge during rush hour on a Friday to be here for the appointed pick up time to donate my sofa, and it is now 8:30 and the driver's phone is off and I suspect he is not coming. So this store is a true little gem in my neighborhood. Not only is the owner Tracey as sweet as they come, she is a true warrior for single moms. She also has some of the best and coolest jewelry I've seen and its not super expensive. Be quick though because I had my eye on a pair of earrings and someone swooped in and bought them! LOL it's okay she has a ton of stuff and I could stay there all day. She has everything from furniture, to art, jewelry, dresses, pants, mens suits and more. Terrible attitudes and customer service. I contacted these people to see if they wanted a gorgeous like new contemporary micro suede extra long couch with accompanying pillows. They said they needed to see pictures because they don't accept a lot of things. Fine. I sent them numerous pictures. No follow up. I sent them another follow up email inquiring if they wanted it. Ignored me. If you aren't going to be responsive to clients and customers, just tell them up front you are too busy or self-important right now to be bothered. My time is valuable as well. read more

I had two excellent desks and an office chair that were taking up too much space in my home office. I wanted to redesign my space. I couldn't believe how difficult it was to give those desks away. Some charities don't take office furniture, some don't pick up donations. Finally a friend suggested Urban Furniture. When I called they were courteous and happy to have my donation. We set a time, and a day before the pick up they called to confirm. Then, they called about half and hour before arrival, just to let me know they were on their way. They were friendly and very professional. The fact that this thrift store is part of a project to help young single parents learn job skills and train for a productive life just adds to the experience of donating. I recommend them, and they will certainly be the first people I call the next time I have furniture to donate. read more

I bought the most beautiful dresser here for such a great price! Really happy with my purchase, and there were tons of other tempting pieces to choose from. Great service, great mission, and while delivery is a bit pricey, I appreciated not having to move it myself.
