The best sushi in the area. Great Thai curries and tempura dishes. Awesome service and the prices are good.

Been here three times now and every time it's been more of a disappointment than the last. This…read moreplace is crap. First the food is over priced and the portions are small. The service is less than poor and on all occasions, once we had finished our mains we have asked for the desert menu only to be smiled at and kept waiting to the point where we gave up and left. We get the impression that they don't want to serve desert. On the last time we came it was a party of 15. Surely you would think that if 15 people want desert then the place would sell 15 deserts and make a nice packet. In general the service is bad. Making mistake on the orders, being rude and well I could go on and on and on. My advice... Don't eat here. The place has always been empty. Why is this still open. There are much finer places to eat in Lancaster even if you do want oriental food. STAY AWAY...

My husband and I went here on our anniversary because I was craving sushi and didn't know where…read moreelse I could find some around here. We had no idea what to expect when we walked in. We were seated with other couples around a central grill. They weren't people we'd come with. As we'd been hoping for more of a cozy and romantic dinner for two, we were a little disappointed at first. This was our error, though, not the restaurant's. At the second grill, we could see some kind of party that had come together and they looked like they were having a blast, so we happily gave it a chance. I'm glad we did! When the chef came out to start cooking, he put on an amazing show, flipping the knives, standing eggs on end and chopping things lightning fast. At the second grill, the chef was flipping a bite at a time through the air into the open mouths of the diners, but nobody on our side was that adventurous. It was great to watch, though! The food was delicious and the portions were MASSIVE. I had still ordered sushi as a starter and it was great, but looking back at the size of the main dish, I could have done without it. If you're looking for a quiet place for a date, I'd skip Miyabi, but it's perfect if you're feeling a bit adventurous or social, and I would take a group of people or a work outing here for dinner in a minute.

Usually I go to Kyatoya nearby but this was closed on a Monday so this was the back up plan…read more Stepping in it was definitely more of a takeaway place than sit in. It was so small you had to go through the kitchen to use the toilet. The choice of food and drink did surprise me.. how could they find room to stock it all? With loads of different sake, juices and wines. Selecting a glass of plum wine ..himself green tea we pawed the menu. There was a great use of pictures which helped us decide. From various sushi Nigiri, temaki, sashimi etc to noodles and ramen dishes. I found the sushi a little over priced to the average sushi joint of this nature..we decided on the 12 piece sashimi and sushi platter ..for mains I chose my usual spicy seafood broth with udon noodles, beef and kimchi. Himself had the beef yakisoba. We inhaled the sushi as soon as it hit the table. It was good healthy amounts of tuna and everything tasted fresh. The wasabi did not mix well with the soya though.. My main was a far cry from what I had at Baekdu the week previous. This was packed with veggies..tender beef and seafood. The broth was also excellent. Looking up I could see my other half wolf down his..giving it the thumbs up . Overall the service was very good and food was a stark contrast to the restaurant. I would probably use this more as a takeaway if I were local but I wouldn't go there to eat again as didn't find it relaxing enough.

It seemed as though a lot of locals did the same too, as people kept popping in to investigate whilst we were eating, in the hope of an opportunistic free table. Despite only opening three weeks ago Sakura Houses' popularity is clear, the restaurant was packed but it's also only 6 tables, which may play a part! Either way we were lucky enough to snaffle a table for two off-the-cuff as there was a 45 minute space before a booking and our waitress was happy to make time and space for us. Due to being short of time we decided to stick to a simple meal each, so we didn't sample the sushi - which seems to be the main fare. I opted for a comforting plate of pork katsu curry and it was very tasty and freshly cooked, so fresh I almost burnt my mouth on the cutlet! My only issues were that it is currently cash only and that my meal came a good 5-10 minutes after my partners - but I honestly think these are just opening month niggles. Sakura House isn't fancy, it's an honest little restaurant with lovely staff and I think it's a welcome and refreshing addition to the area.

From the outside it looks basic but when you see the menu and get your food served it's far from basic! Amazing sized portions and just so authentic. We just made it through the starters before indulging into our mains. Little did I expect that my portion would be enough for 3 people instead of myself. Had to box it up and will gladly polish off tomorrow. Can't recommend this place more as it's off the main street, staff and service were so welcoming, serving was quick (albeit it was quiet) and the prices are so cheap! Total package

With a couple of other people we went for one of the banquets to experience what they have to offer - I was very happy with everything. My companions felt that the starters were a little disappointing, or at least quite generic and at times lacking flavour. I thought they were great though, because I value variety over quality perhaps! We all liked the soups though, which were packed with chicken and other tasty bits. The we had a selection of mains, from prawns to beer and so on. Tender meat, interesting sauces and fresh ingredients: all fine by me.
