Caveat: non-meat fillings must still be present and enhance the pie. - Crust must be crispy, all-around (no soggy bottoms!), but balanced with the fillings. - Value (quality for price) matters Along these lines, this Borough market vendor provided the absolutely best pies we found in all of London. We ordered the "Moo & Blue" which was a beef steak and Stilton cheese pie for 8 or 9£. Start to finish, the pie was crispy, well-balanced, while still offering the best price around. You take a moment to savor this columbian style empanada. Oh wait! There's salsa being offered. It was a viscous spicy variety, perfect to dab onto your empanada without it sliding off. Good they are! If you get the chance, visit Maltby Street and look for these empanadas. Today they had beef, chicken, and spinach. They were selling 1 for £1.50. They also offered these dense, chewy, cheese rolls for £1. If you're doing takeaway, they'll give you a small salsa container.
