I'm so disappointed in this gift shop. My 22yr old daughter and her bestie went in to grab Mother's Day gifts at 2pm, Saturday, 5/9/26. They barely made it halfway through the store before an older gentleman said, "If you aren't going to buy anything, please leave so I can go to lunch." My daughter is on the spectrum so she looks quite young for her age. I can only assume he was stereotyping them as "teens" but that's beside the point. As a small business owner myself, I cannot imagine treating customers this way. read more

What doesn't this store have? Banana Bart's is a great place to find your souvenirs if you are vacationing in Destin. It's also a great place to find the most random gifts even if you are a local here. They had tshirts, trinkets, and all kinds of cool stuff here. This cute little shop is located along the Destin Harbor sits Banana Barts. It is inside what looks like an older beach house which is pretty cool. Parking is limited here so depending on the time of the day you may or may not find a spot. Going inside, this is not your ordinary gift shop. They have everything from A to Z. They have quite a few handmade things as well. I of course inspected the whole store. I definitely love a vintage building and it shows. I didn't get much here but, I got some things. I probably would've gone broke if I wanted to buy the things I really wanted to buy. This shop is definitely worth visiting if you're in the Destin Area. You will get your moneys worth. read more

I wasn't sure what to expect when I stopped into Banana Bart's. There are Alvin's Islands or Surf Shops every 20 ft or it seems in Destin. They are largely just the same junk you see everywhere. I was looking for a more unique and original place to stop in to get a gift. I've probably passed the yellow house that the store is in dozens of times and never noticed it. I was happy to stop in and check it out. It had an eclectic collection of souvenirs and something for everyone. The woman at the front was nice and personable so no complaints with the service when we were in. The prices were reasonable, and on par for any other store you are going to see in the area. The only reason I'm giving this 4 rather than 5 stars is that the hours are somewhat limited, and it was in a stretch of Destin that was annoying to get across the divider and into the parking lot. read more

Stopped here on a whim and we were glad we did. It is unassuming from the outside, but there are so many gems on the inside. We got to talk to the owner about the history of this place, which was worth the visit alone. This was the first vacation home built on the harbor in the 30s and acquired by a trade of used pick up truck. I won't do the story justice so just go see Anne or Bart here and get and talk to them and see their wares. It is worth it and it sure beats Alvin's Island! read more

Love this Destin gem!! The owners are a delight and the gifts are more unique than anything you find in Alvin's or the other surf shops. Would def recommend to stop in. My partner and I had decided to come to this shop and browse. I personally had stopped just to change my shorts, but my partner wanted to look around. Due to not being from around here, we figured we could do like a lot of other places, park and walk. When we returned roughly an hour and a half later due to the vanity of our decision to walk, we were met by who we can only assume is Mr. Banana Bart himself. Bart berated us initially screaming "Where have you been?!" Before rebuking us for leaving the truck locked. (He scolded us for this, even though we wouldn't have had it any other way. I can only imagine what he would have done if we left it open.) Though we told him we were "up the street" he continued to tell us that this is a business and we should never park in his parking lot again. 10/10 wouldn't recommend, very rude service, very disrespectful atmosphere, and overall crappy people. read more

I cannot recommend this place to any POC. You'll be followed around the entire time and not in a "hi welcome to my store" kinda way. In a silent, unashamedly obvious and uncomfortable way. The other reviews are right though, the stuff their is eclectic and fun. read more

First time in this shop. We were looking for something that wasn't your typical cheesey souvenir shop that lines the main drag. This place is great! You could go in a dozen times and see something different each time. The owner was there, said he's been in this location for 36 years and the last of original shops that started there. It's my favorite souvenir shop in the Bay Area; we've been shopping here every summer for years; we've gotten tee shirts, shirts, CD's, sterling silver jewelry, turquoise jewelry, Christmas ornaments, leather goods, hats, ankle bracelets;, copper, leather and pewter jewelry - and there's lots more to look at as you wind your way through this converted pre-war cottage. The staff is always pleasant and helpful. Plus there are inexpensive items to bring home as gifts that are nice. Remember when there were a number of shops that weren't filled with junk? My family and I annually stop in at Banana Barts. However, we will not be back. We stopped in this week on Sunday, not realizing they were closed. Not a big deal. We stopped in again on Monday, about 4:20p. I smiled at the lady working inside, 50-ish, chin length wavy hair, and said "hi! We came yesterday but you were closed, so we came back!" Mostly just to make conversation. She said "We close in 10 minutes." Wow. The sign on the door said 5p, but still. So a member of my party said "we were just gonna look around for 10 minutes anyway." Lady working said, and I quote, "Make it 5." Just wow. Not ok. I work hard for my money, and I'll go where I'm appreciated. read more

Walked in 10 till 4:30 lady told me "we are closing soon" and I said we were just looking to spend 10min there annnd she proceeds to tell us "make it 5." She also said to someone with me they close at 4:30 even though on here says they close at 5. Very rude and bad attitude.
