After reading all the great reviews for this restaurant, I was really looking forward to some good Asian food in the Stoney Creek area. First, service was excellent and we were seated quickly; the service staff was pleasant. We ordered the lunch specials - Singapore Noodle, Pad Thai Noodle and Chili chicken which came with 2 spring rolls. Presentation of food was good. Unfortunately, after one bite of each dish we quickly knew that the food was not up to the authentic standards we were expecting and accustomed to having eaten a lot of Asian food in the Toronto-Mississauga region. The Singapore noodle was extremely spicy, overpowering and salty (and we are used to spice). The Pad Thai was also extremely salty and coated with a thick sweet/sour sauce. The Chili Chicken had about 6 small slices of chicken on the plate, and the rest were peppers and onions. The waiter kindly offered complimentary mango ice cream to counterbalance the heat from the Singapore noodle. We didn't have the heart to tell the waiter the food was probably one of the worst we've had. Unfortunately, we won't be returning. read more

Food is usually very good and very expensive. We have two young kids so we order everything mild. They could not eat one dish. I wound up going to Taco Bell to get them some Burritos for the kids. Sorry Tom but this is not your first screw up! Good luck on the future! read more

Wow, what a wonderful experience! Located in Stoney Creek, this place is a small hole in the wall for anyone looking for Asian food. Granted, the low Asian presence in the restaurant made me skeptical at first, but this is darn good Asian food - coming from a girl who grew up in Markham. The service here is amazing. My plate was switched to a fresh warm one when my main arrived, my water glass was never empty, the host and the cook asked how the food was and looked like they genuinely cared, it was great. I ordered the Thai green curry chicken and my fiancé the sizzling black pepper steak. My fiancé had originally wanted the Thai beef stir fry, but the waiter suggested he would enjoy the sizzling steak more and he was right! The sizzling steak was delicious, the vegetables were fresh and the beef was so-so tender. My Thai green curry chicken was delicious, a word of warning, it's spicy and there are some lime pieces in it I didn't really care for, but it was still so good and had I asked for no lime pieces I'm sure they would have accommodated. My only complaint is that they don't offer coconut rice. If the owner is reading this, please consider putting coconut rice on the menu! Overall it was a wonderful experience. The food was tasty, the presentation nice, the portions are decent and the menu is large enough to never have to repeat orders. read more

Had heard good things about this place so wanted to check it out. A hidden gem was the way it was described so we stopped in on a Sunday night. Wasn't busy at all but was told the previous 2 nights were. We ordered the wonton soup, hot&sour soup, and spring rolls. Also had white rice with pepper steak, curry shrimp, curry chicken, steamed veggies, steamed fish, ginger chicken and cashew chicken. All were verry good. For dessert we had fried bananas. A great way to end the meal! The staff was very friendly, helpful and accommodating. The chef was also very kind to take some special requests we had for one person in our group. Thai restaurants are everywhere but good ones are hard to find. The Banana Leaf is a hidden gem in Stoney Creek. The atmosphere is charming and subtle. The food made with care and flavour. They know the menu, what can goes best to compliment your palate and the meal. They don't have a set dinner for 2,3,4 etc but rather you get to pick your entrees from the menu and soup, spring rolls and jasmine rice is included. We opted for the dinner for 4: sizzling beef with ginger and scallions, pad thai, cashew chicken, spicy green beans and general's shrimp. They were even kind enough to split the pad thai into two plates spicy/not spicy. Prices were reasonable, and we left with leftovers. Worth the drive. Worth the money. Excellent food, great atmosphere, staff is very friendly and genuinely care about how you are enjoying your meal (not just paying lip service like most restaurants where the waiter comes and asks how your meal is and then is gone before you answer). The chef even comes out to see how you are enjoying the food! The staff here pride themselves on excellent service and food while remaining humble. You don't find that anywhere anymore. The food is absolutely delicious, I've been multiple times and tried a dozen or so dishes... all incredible. The food comes on shareable platters too for a true Vietnamese experience. It's a tad more expensive than other similar restaurants but the experience and care and taste of the food is well worth a couple extra dollars. read more

Great little Asian joint in downtown Stoney Creek. Was a crappy night with snow and wind. The restaurant was over half full. Enjoyed our meal immensely. From the hot and sour soup, through our General Zho chicken, Spicy ginger beef, Crispy Basa fillets and sticky rice for dessert, everything was excellent. The service was very good also. Just the right amount of time between courses. It was the first time there for my son and I. We unanimously agreed we found a great restaurant. The best and most affordable romantic restaurant in Stoney Creek! TOM who is the head waiter created a flowing ambiance with beautiful jazz music fantastic energy and a wonderful smile as he greeted us! As soon as we walked in we felt welcomed! Both of us had an intention of just ordering one thing however Tom talked about this fantastic deal for $40 and some odd change! First we started off with a beautiful soup followed by spring rolls and we had a choice of three entrées. We don't eat a lot of food however this food is definitely going to be a wonderful lunch tomorrow! Each item and had a delicious unique flavour that felt very authentic! I ordered red curry chicken recommended by Tom and my husband ordered Pad Thai chicken! We were surprised to find out there was a third so then we also ordered a general chicken! We were very impressed with the smiling servers and wonderful ambiance and the consistent flow of wonderful energy! This restaurant is located downtown in Stony Creek across from the famous Coco Mazzi! I particularly loved the real candle placed between us and that we could actually enjoy a meaningful conversation with comfortable volumes of nice music! Our favourite Chinese food restaurant closed down some time ago and my wife and I have been searching for a new place to dine. We stumbled upon the Banana Leaf at Trip Advisor and decided to check it out due to the great review they've been getting. We weren't disappointed. First let me say that the food is absolutely outstanding! The menu has a very wide variety of items on it. I chose the green curry chicken (probably the best I've had to date) and my wife had the beef satay! They were very accommodating in satisfying my wife's desire for a non-spicy dish. That also made me happy because we usually have to avoid restaurants that lean more towards spicy dishes. The restaurant is tucked away in a small nondescript plaza in Stoney Creek which is a little deceiving because the inside is tastefully decorated and had a nice warm and intimate feel about it. The staff was attentive and very polite. They weren't very busy during our visit, however the food did take some time to arrive and the main course was served in stages whereas we would have preferred everything to be served at the same time. The wait however was well worth it! The quality and presentation of the food was very good. The taste? -- fantastic! The chef came out afterwards to chat with us and I could tell that he is very proud of his efforts. I believe his pride is well deserved. The honey fried Pineapple with Jack Fruit ice cream was fabulous BTW! We will be returning with friends in the near future. read more

Extremely disappointed. Phoned in an order for pick-up and it was supposed to be 45 mins. and my wife waited 2 hours. After that long of a wait we finally got our food and guess what, it was the wrong order. We live close so we return the order only to find out they gave our order to someone else. They added some items to make it like our original order, but it wasn't. It was the same wrong order with an extra item. By this time it was 2 and a half hours and we were hungry and the wrong food was cold. Obviously. It wasn't at all to me or my wife's liking. We planned on having a nice Saturday night thai food dinner and ended up completely wasting $55. They were apologetic but that is no excuse for completely ruining our dinner, and someone else's I imagine. Terrible service and food but like I said it wasn't what we ordered. I had dinner here last night with a group of 17. The owner had picked out the menu for us ahead of time. Our job was to enjoy. We arrived around 7:30. It was probably nearly 8 pm or later before any food was served. The first course was a salad which had too much dressing on it. We were served large bowls from which we served ourselves. I had a few pieces of over wilted lettuce. It was drenched with sesame oil. The second course were platefuls of spring rolls which tasted identical to frozen spring rolls you can purchase at the grocery store. The third course was soup. We had a choice of won ton or hot and sour soup. The people at my end of the table all chose hot and sour. It was horrible. I have never seen hot and sour soup that was dark brown. It looked like beef gravy from a can. I picked out the vegetables and left the broth which was horrid. The final course was the main. First dishes of chicken with cashews and diced vegetables were served. Along with these was a vegetarian version of the same dish, with peanuts and tofu. I don't especially like diced vegetables. There was way too much onion and the onion wasn't even cooked. I didn't see much chicken in the dish. The tofu was terribly over cooked. It tasted like it was boiled then fried. I've never seen tofu all shriveled up like that before. It was not good. The sauce on both dishes was uninspiring. It mostly tasted salty. The next dishes they brought out was steamed rice. Unfortunately it came late for most of us. I tried a small spoonful of the rice. It was sticky and over cooked. Then came a plate of battered fish smothered in a gluey mango sauce with more raw onions. The fish was okay once you scraped off the awful sauce. Then they brought out pad Thai. It looked nice. It was prepared traditionally with egg and crushed peanuts. Again the meat was hard to find. The pieces of chicken were sparse and very small about the size of half a peanut. I don't know what the shrimp tasted like. I didn't find any. If that wasn't enough they brought out a final dish, beef served on sizzling dishes with, you guessed it, onions and peppers and two tiny pieces of broccoli. The beef had some kind of breading on it and was soaked in a soy sauce mixture. It tasted like something from a can. It was not good. On the plus side, the service was relatively good. The restaurant was clean. Overall I have to say it wasn't THE worst Asian restaurant I've ever been too but it certainly wasn't the best either. If I'm ever in Stoney Creek east again and hungry for Asian cuisine I might go back. read more
