I love this place, but the Manager John thinks he's all knowing on remodeling the place. Only thing he can get right is building a gloryhole, and even those are weird. Tons of wasted unused play space, a dark room that's 4'x2' wasted, and his "Ramp Room" thats a joke nobody is ever in it. Then there is the sad red rope light from 1980 (because it was the cheapest) along the ceiling when it should be along the floor so you can see where you're walking. At first glance, Banana appears to be simply a video/DVD store, albeit one that features exclusively gay and bi porn. And yes, you can buy and rent porn here. Assuming you don't have Internet access, I suppose. Or that you really want to catch the latest releases. You can also buy such accessories as lube, poppers, and dildos the approximate size and shape of a Louisville Slugger. At the far end of the shop, however, you may note a turnstile, and one which does not lead to an exit. Instead, if you fork over 10 bucks, you can go upstairs to the video viewing area. Abandon all hope, ye who enter here. The upstairs consist of a series of "private viewing rooms," each of which has a TV tuned to one of three different movies. As an employee that has worked here several years prior, and am now employed here again, I can attest that previous employees were not the most friendly. I work mainly during the weekends, and for a smaller porn/sex shop, I feel we have a pretty good selection of goods. So there I was, minding my own business, walking by myself on a late, lonely, rainy night. Caught in a down pour and looking for cover, I came across a neon-lit store: "Banana Video." Clearly a cross between a fruit store and a video rental, I entered through the doors. Soon after I entered, I was greeted by a rather friendly man behind the counter. "Welcome to Banana Video" he said. I smiled as I wiped my feet and then entered fully in the store. I thought to myself, well, I can go for a little fruit but thought it odd that a video rental would still exist in this age of Hulu, NetFlix , and Amazon Prime. "But what the hell," I thought, "I might as well take a look." As I walked around looking for the fruit section, I came across a most odd section of some sort of men's fashion magazines. Judging from the pictures on the covers, I think it must have been foreign, maybe French, because it sure did look awfully avant-garde, featuring mostly some futuristic Road-Warrior leather look. Walking around, I couldn't find any fruit, so asked this one quiet gentleman not too far from me who seemed really into the aforementioned French-based magazines: "Do you know where I can find some bananas?" He turned around and smiled with a big grin. Clearly a very friendly man. And clearly he must have known it was going to have rained that day, for he was wearing a rain coat and hat. And I guess he must have had very sensitive eyes, because he was wearing these dark sunglasses. But then again, maybe he was French. It'd make sense given he had one of those leather harness things in his hands and a couple of those French magazines. But his English was good, as he said "Follow me and I'll show you where you can get some really nice and firm ones." I really liked these individual fruit booths. At a regular market, you often have people around you grabbing at the same bananas and you feel rushed in making your selection. Not here. So I reached inside the hole and immediately felt a nice size banana. But I guess there were plums in there too next to this banana. But this banana was stuck on something. I first tried to free it and couldn't so looked around for another one in the hole and found another one right next to it. Funny thing, this one also had a pair of plums right under it. Guess it was some three for one deal. But this banana was caught on something too. So I tugged on it and tugged and went back to the other one and tugged on it and tugged. Back and forth I tugged. At one point, I was doing it so furiously fast out of my irritation. The best part was that I was getting all this encouragement from the French man, whose voice I kept hearing saying: "Yeah, you almost got it. Don't stop!" But then, I heard him and then soon after another unfamiliar man's voice make a series of incoherent loud vocal sounds and then promptly go quiet. I reached around for the bananas, but apparently someone else must have gotten them, for I could not find them anymore. So wish I could say more about this place, but as far as I can tell they really don't have a large selection of fruits and just some odd foreign fashion magazines for French people.
