Not only did I feel welcomed, the food was also comforting. For two of my friends and I, we ordered four dishes. Everything came out quickly and almost all at once! We started with the seaweed salad which was fresh and crunchy. The tteok boki was an absolute highlight. Add gimmari (noodles wrapped in seaweed and deep fried) and cheese, you will not regret it! These were the perfect complement to the sweet and spicy sauces and chewy rice cakes. The Kalbi was the most delicious. Great sized pieces of meat that packed a punch with flavor. I love the pieces that had some fat and char. And the jjajangmyeon noodles were bouncy and coated with the black bean sauce. Every bite was better than the next. This spot was very relaxed and casual. The servers were so hospitable and friendly. I loved our experience and I will definitely come back for my favorites. My friends and I arrived on a Saturday evening and got seated quickly. There were parking spots available in the front and back of the restaurant.

Anything we needed anything, they were happy to help. The chef was also very nice but I didn't ask his name. We ordered the Ginger Tea, Seaweed Salad + Gyoza (vegetable dumplings) to start, along with a small rice. The ginger tea is made with fresh ginger and is slightly sweet, the seaweed salad was authentic. The Gyoza were phenomenal; I asked Peter his advice on fried or grilled and he recommended fried. For the main course, we ordered the Fantastic Roll and the Koala Roll which were heavy hitters. 100% recommended. They have sake and are BYOB, big plus! We came back a second time, and I ordered the same thing: veggie gyoza and Fantastic Roll. My friends daughter loved the veggie dumplings just as much as I did. My friend and her daughter shared the sushi meal, and it came with sashimi that they loved. We also tried their chicken teriyaki appetizer and the meal. The appetizer comes with spicy mayo sauce which came on kebab sticks, and were too spicy for the kids but I thought they were perfect. The meal did not have spicy mayo and was sliced on a steaming platter. It was delicious as well, but I personally preferred the appetizer style. Eric and Peter were amazing servers the second time. I'm more than happy to support this local restaurant anytime I'm in town. Everything was extremely fresh, authentic, and larger portions than most places for an amazing price point. This is one of my favorite sushi restaurants from now on. You definitely don't want to miss this place.

The dipping sauce helped make up for being overcooked. I chose not to say anything as it was late, they were closing soon. I also ordered stone pot Bibimbap. I was pleased with it. The only thing I found off was this is the only Korean restaurant I've found that charges extra for stone pot. I've always had it served in a stone pot. Although the waiter, perhaps owner greeted me when I came in and answered any questions I had, he never returned after my appetizer or meal were delivered to ask how they were. That's not acceptable. I was assuming he was already aware the scallion pancake was over cooked and didn't want to hear it. For the overall amount of food I'd say the prices were reasonable, just not sure I'll return when I'm in the area again. Side note I do like kimchi and I liked their kimchi. Also many Korean restaurants will serve a side of fruit after the meal. Not sure if that is a cost saving measure in difficult times.

Important to note that the kitchen closes 45 minutes before the closing time listed online…read more We came in a group of 5 and all of us found the food to be fine. I really enjoyed the half soft-boiled egg in the shio ramen as well as the enormous quantity of noodles, but there wasn't a ton of flavor in the dish. The chicken hibachi had great sauce and decent noodles, but the meat was dry and felt overcooked. The caterpillar roll surprised me since it was tuna-based, rather than the eel that is typical for that name. None of the dishes stood out as exceptional. The service was quite interesting. I did appreciate the water service - the server came around early on yo offer refills. Then about midway through the meal, she asked if we wanted leftovers boxed up. I wasn't too hungry so I was fine with take home the leftovers, although the timing felt a bit early to me. I couldn't tell if that was because it was just after 8 PM and they were trying to close up soon (advertised closing time of 8:30 PM), but there were still plenty of other tables with diners. The bill came with a mandatory 18% tip for our group of 5.

"Right before my very eyes Baby what a big surprise"…read more(Chicago) When was the last time, you were enjoying a gorgeous looking dish of Vegetable Tempura and realized OMG, I just chomped down on something crazy spicy? Well, that's what happens when you bite into an unadvertised half of a jalapeno pepper when the menu promises sweet potato, onion, and broccoli. Now look, as the late Sly Stone sang, "Different strokes for different folks", meaning that we all have different tolerances for spiciness. I was OK with that blazing piece of green, that for all purposes looked like a slice of Bell Pepper, but it set off fire alarms for my wife, who flat out couldn't eat it. Putting all that aside, we had a very enjoyable dinner. We got a lucky parking spot in a small lot right across the street and were seated without a reservation, which was also kind of lucky because Kisara doesn't have a lot of seating - I counted 8 tables (some for 4 and a few for 2) and nine seats at the bar. Our dinner ran a shade under $42 with tax for a 12-ounce bottle of Sapporo beer, the aforementioned Vegetable Tempura appetizer ($10), an Octopus Sushi appetizer (three pieces for $5.75, and two nice salads - an Avocado Salad ($7.25) and Teriyaki Chicken ($11.50). As you can see, Kisara's pricing is pretty good. The Tempura (save for the unexpected and unadvertised jalapeno halves) was very good - a generous serving of hot, crispy and oil free sweet potato planks, broccoli florets, and onion rings. My octopus sushi was pretty good. The pieces were large and presented beautifully. Maybe a minor quibble would be the chewiness factor of the octopus. The salads were very pretty - an attractive presentation of mixed greens, lettuce, cucumbers, shredded carrots, and a ginger dressing. My wife's salad had seven avocado slices and mine had ten chunks of teriyaki sauce glazed chicken chunks. Maybe another minor quibble would be the chewiness of the chicken, they were definitely overcooked. Positives Their menu is fantastic. Service was fine and included a few check-backs which are always appreciated Negatives There is no public WIFI - when I saw a Kisara network pop up, I asked for the password and was told "that's only for the manager". They don't really have a website, but you can somewhat see one via an ordering platform off their Facebook page. Conclusion For walking in off the street without a reservation, overall, we had a very nice dinner.
