Jackaroo Ranch cottage was all of these things! It was perfect. There is a Jackaroo Ranch house on the property as well for larger groups but the cottage was exactly what we wanted, very quaint, cozy, and comfortable. The place was well maintained and very well equipped with dishes, pans, utensils, blankets, etc. And the pillows were so nice, we wanted to take them home with us! Temperature was very pleasant when we were there so no need for heating or cooling but there was an AC unit and heaters as well as electric blankets. There were handy notes around to tell us where the dressings for the couch futon were and what to do with our trash. The owner lives just down the road and left her number in case we needed anything (everything was perfect so we never needed it!) We didn't look before we went to the store so we bought some charcoal but it turns out that there was already coal, lighter fluid, and a lighter in a bin under the grill. It was hard to tell from the limited pictures on the website (we booked through All Wimberely Lodging) exactly how close to the river it was but it was indeed very close and just a quick little stroll down there; there was a table and chairs set up down there where we enjoyed our breakfast and it also happens to be right at the bridge that crosses the river so we were able to easily walk across and hike around on the other side. And at night we'd just turn on the christmas lights and hang out on the porch, listening to the river and the frogs and just chill. I wish I was there right now! It's a little bit out of the town center which makes you feel nice and hidden away but it's just like a 7 minute drive into the cute little downtown area. There is a little parking spot for the cottage that is labeled; I wasn't sure where the parking was going to be and thought maybe we'd have to park by the house or something so this was good. The shower is really small which wasn't the best, I don't know how you're supposed to shave your legs in there! The only other very minor thing is that since you're sharing the grounds, there might be some back and forth with the gate; we would have just left it open for easy entry and exit but the people in the house had dogs so they would close it all the time which was just a tiny bit annoying but obviously not that big a deal. Overall, I highly recommend it and hope we get to come back sometime!

On the Buffalo Bend property there are two cabins and the owner's house. The El Sol and the La…read moreLuna are about 75 yards apart. Both cabins have identical interiors and exteriors. However, there are two distinctive differences in the cabins. The El Sol cabin is the second cabin on the road and is a little more secluded. The La Luna has a better view. My wife and I stayed in the El Sol cabin because we wanted more seclusion. The owner of the cabins, Melissa, emails perfect directions and you will need these directions. It's not difficult to find the cabins, but if you didn't have the printed directions you wouldn't be able to locate them. When we arrived at the El Sol cabin, Melissa had just finished checking the cabin. Melissa is extremely nice and told us about a storm had hit them two days prior, so the satellite tv and internet weren't working. This didn't bother us since we never turned on the tv and we used our smartphones for the internet. Either way, both utilities were repaired and running by our second day. Both cabins have wooden floors and consist of a living room/kitchen area, one bedroom, and a bathroom. The living/kitchen area has a wood burning fireplace, tv, sofa, chair, refrigerator, stovetop oven, microwave, coffee pot, and dining table. There are window a/c units in the living room area and bedroom. I don't know how well they work since we didn't need them. They also have ceiling fans in the bedroom and living areas. We were able to sleep with the windows open since the cabins sit high enough for a very pleasant breeze. The bedroom has a queen size bed. My wife and I both thought the mattress was too soft for us. We're not big people, but our bodies formed somewhat of a "valley" in the mattress. Some people like this, but we like some firmness to our mattress. This was our only complaint, if you want to call it that since it really didn't affect our sleep. The bedroom also has a chest to store some of your clothes, end tables, and a clock/radio/alarm. The bathroom does have a suitable place for hanging all your clothes. Also in the bathroom there's a nice size step in shower, a sink, and of course, a toilet. There was plenty of hot water and you don't have to wait long to get the water hot enough for a nice shower. The water supply is collected rain water. Both cabins have their own cisterns and the water is filtered. Showers are nice with the soft rain water and much better than city water. Some people might not enjoy the taste of filtered rain water, more so if they're use to their chemical laden city water. :) We didn't have any issues with drinking the water. Outside, the cabins have plenty of trees. The El Sol is a tad more wooded. Both cabins have a gas grill, outdoor table and chairs, fire pit, hammock, and lounging chairs. There are two rocking chairs on the porch of both cabins. Both cabins have working hot tubs. I think I covered everything you need to know about the cabins. For my wife and I, it was nice to sit on the porch and watch the deer and foxes walking around the cabins. If you want to guarantee yourself seeing some deer, just throw some feed corn a few yards from the cabin porch. You can buy a bag of corn at the Ace hardware store or the feed store in town. My wife and I had a very nice, quiet, and relaxing time at Buffalo Bend. I'm sure we'll plan another stay in the near future.

The main areas of the house were cleaned but I had to personally try to clean the patio and outdoor furniture. It was unusable as is. Everything was covered in bird poop which is very unsanitary and not O.K. for my young grandchildren not for the rest of the family as well The same goes for the game room. We were locked out for several days and spent too much time on phone calls to finally get someone to send out a locksmith. Only to find the room was in as much disrepair as other areas of the home. FILTHY and no equipment for the foosball so don't factor that into decision. I will say again, a beautiful property and so much potential but the owners are evidently unwilling to keep it up to the standards expected for high end rentals. For this price I expect everything to be top notch.

They even had a gift bag for our dog. So thoughtful I made a reservation about a month in advance never been to Wimberley. I had the best customer service by Albert I would email him and he would respond within the hour and he was full of information. Thank you Albert you are awesome I had so many plans but unfortunately it did not go well the swimming hole was closed which was not updated through the website or Yelp. Zip lining no one answered the phone to make a reservation I tried online and they never had an opening- just a note to call the office Jacob's Well also closed Blue hole was open but no swimming allowed Thoughts outdoor activities will likely be open closer to summer possibly in May Even though we were unable to do the outdoor activities we still had a relaxing mini honeymoon and the best part was we brought our Xena and the stores welcomed her It's just another excuse to come back to Wimberley in June when we know everything will be open

First, the reservation process was super simple and the property photos and overview were spot on. The cabin was adorable, clean and plenty of space for my family. We enjoyed the fire pit (there were two logs already here for us) and the hot tub which was very clean. The property has two other cabins but there's still plenty of space for everyone. You get a beautiful view of Smith Creek and because the area received rain prior to our arrival we also enjoyed the waterfall. Please note in the property information it does state the creek is weather dependent so if the area is in a drought there won't be water in it. The property location could not have been any better, 5 minutes from Wimberley Square, 10 minutes from the Cypress Water Hole and 10 minutes from Wimberley National. The list of chores prior to leaving was simple and I don't believe that asked too much like some other properties. Overall, it was a relaxing much needed weekend for our family and having such a great place to stay truly made it special for us.

Ants were everywhere--on the countertops, dishes, and eventually all over our food. We ended up having to throw away more than $100 worth of meat because it became infested. I sent multiple photos to the management company, and while they did send someone to the property, we were told they could not spray because the ants were around our food. That was exactly why we had requested help in the first place, so the issue was never resolved during our stay. The backyard also did not match the listing photos. A black fence completely blocked the advertised view, the grass was overgrown, and there were spider webs covering the back porch, making the outdoor space uninviting. The most alarming part of our stay happened while we were watching TV in the living room. A scorpion stung my husband. Because he has underlying health issues, we immediately contacted Poison Control and had to closely monitor his symptoms. It was a frightening experience. I notified the management company right away, but they offered no meaningful response or assistance. Overall, the property was not well maintained, and the safety concerns made our stay extremely stressful. What was most disappointing was the lack of concern and effort from the management company to address the problems or make things right. I would not recommend staying here based on our experience.
