The ride up was very smooth and scenic. My family of four loved it, the top area was a nice walk to a weather monitoring historic cabin. This place is very very very expensive and not handicap accessible by any means. $62 per adult and $31 per kid, then they arrange a time for you to come back down, gave us 1hr and 20 mins, we had that extended as we needed more time, was not an issue to extend, but I would be ticked if I was forced to come back down for that price! The gift shop was small and as expected very over priced, but that's Banff in general. read more

Very beautiful view. Easy to moderate hiking (along the steps)! The price is a bit too pricy though. It costs about $42 each person. I would suggest you to buy a combo deal where you can go on a cruise and glacier skywalk. I went there around 6pm. The view was decent. Parts of the park is still in a building process though. The Banff Gondola is a great experience and I have done it at least 5 times now with guests coming to visit us. They have done a lot of work to the visitor centre at the top which is fantastic. The really disappointing part of this trip was the fact that we brought our dog (paid the $47) to find out that he wasn't allowed into the visitor centre. We brought our dog a couple of years ago and it was no problem but since the renovations they are not allowed past the first floor. This has to be made more clear as my husband had to go straight back down with him as it was too cold to have him outside for too long. My husband did complain about this when he got to the bottom but nothing was done, he should have been refunded for his ticket as he did not get the enjoyment from it at all. read more

This is a great experience if you are visiting the Banff area! This gives you an incredible view of the city as well as an abundance of information regarding the town of Banff and Sulphur mountain and neighboring mountain ranges. It is very informative about the wildlife within the area. There are two different observation decks that give you a breathtaking view. There are also two restaurants on top of Sulphur Mountain; you must make a reservation for both or you will not get a table. When booking be sure to get the package deal with Gondola tickets as well as dinner reservation. I made the mistake of purchasing just the gondola tickets then we weren't able to eat dinner because they were booked. read more

We loved this experience! The gondola ride is very smooth and quick.The building at the top is modern, very spacious and well decorated. The views are spectacular. There are indoor viewing areas if one wants to avoid weather. There is an outdoor deck with seats, propane heaters and a fire pit. The boardwalk to the highest views is a very easy walk; there are stairs. The cafeteria style "buffet" food was so-so. Some coffee, sodas and chips were extra. Diners can opt for soup, pizza or a snack. There are educational exhibits and a very short movie. There are souvenir shops in two locations, but prices are high. read more

This is a must-do activity if you're in Banff. Take the gondola up the mountains (it's not as scary as it looks); then, walk the trail up to the summit in Sulphur Mountain (it doesn't take as long as it seems). The gondola takes you from 1,583 above sea level to 2,281 above sea level. It's about a five-minute ride. There is the trail that leads you to the summit of Sulphur Mountain (Sanson's Peak). Take in the stunning views of the mountains, the lakes and the sky. They also set up an informative stand where you can identify Mount Temple, Mount Cory, Mount Edith, Mount Louis, Mount Norquay, Mount Brewster, and Cascade Mountain and more, all of which you can recognize from the trail (not so sure if you go on a cloudy or rainy day). The only downsides are you may need to wait in line for a long time, and the tickets are expensive at $49 per person. read more

The gondola is a bit hairy and they take a photo at the top in the hope you'll buy it, but other than that it's great! Amazing views from all sides and a walkway to another point of the mountain. Didn't see any of the stuff inside, but I was only really there for the view. The observation deck on top is a bit disappointing as the views below are better. read more

If you are looking to save time, energy, or for whatever reason cannot hike up Sulpher Mountain (or any other mountain for that matter) please consider the Gondola. The experience isn't as scary as I thought it would be though I would recommend that if someone has a fear of heights not to look directly down from the gondola. To me, it was worth the price. The view was quite possibly the most beautiful thing I've ever seen. Please be prepared for the weather once you get to the top - it may be much cooler and windier than down below. Also be prepared for the change in elevation (ear aches, dizziness, etc. all my be symptoms if you are susceptible) as my ears ached traveling from one peak to the other but quickly improved once I came down the mountain. The center wasn't open at this time - it's currently under construction - but it was still worth the trip. If you're reading this after August of 2016, when the renovations will be complete, I would then HIGHLY recommend this experience. read more

We almost didn't take the gondola because we thought that it was a pricey but I am so glad that we did because it was fabulous! The views from the top are just stunning. We did a number of day hikes during our stay and none of them took us to a view like the one from the top of the gondola. There is a skywalk that you can take to get 360 views. Also the building at the top is very impressive with many exhibits, two restaurants and of course, the gift shop. Don't miss this if you are visiting Bannf! read more

I actually really enjoyed the Banff gondola experience, despite many people saying they didn't have a good time and it was far too expensive. It is true it is expensive, and it's rather irritating that we only used it to go down the day after they started charging, if we had gone on our hike up the mountain the day before we would've been allowed to go down the gondola for free. However I work Monday to Friday so what are you going to do... Another nice thing is they have special rates for my two sons even though they are teenagers and I am used to paying adult rates for them for everything else. In total for one adult and two teenagers it came to about $70 just to take the gondola down but in my case it was definitely worth it, our legs were killing us as the first mtn we ever climbed together in our lives and it was very exciting to be at 8000 feet high, it was definitely worth the climb for the spectacular photos. By the way one quick comment--- to hikers who give unsolicited advice to other hikers, at the bottom of the mountain I pulled my knapsack onto my back and it was loaded with six small bottles of water to split between the three of us, and other than that it was stuffed with light things such as wind proof jackets and tissues and Band-Aids and etc. However it looks like it was very full because of its mass. Another hiker behind me started critiquing me and telling me it was impossible and I was going to have a really crappy climb because that bag was too heavy. Thanks, Granny, but I wasn't asking you, it's nice that you're such a seasoned hiker you can wander around and tell everybody else what's wrong with them, but just because a bag looks large doesn't mean a bag is heavy. Would you rather carry a bowling ball up a mountain 8000 feet high or a weather balloon filled with cotton balls? One of them has a large mass but low weight, the other one has a small mass but high weight. Don't make assumptions and criticize people you don't know, there is a chance you have no idea what you're talking about PS If you are looking for a restaurant locally; Whatever you do, NEVER go to the Calgary restaurant The Guild. The views were fine, but don't waste your money with the gondola. It costs $64 to go up, and you're given certain times to go up and down, which makes no sense. My friend and I were basically forced to wait to go down the mountain for more than an hour after we wanted to leave. I felt trapped and it triggered an anxiety attack which caused me to start crying and the staff still would not let us down. They completely disregarded us and my need to leave so I could calm down. It was just a horrible experience and I would not recommend it to anyone. You're better off trying somewhere else in the park or maybe going to Waterton if you're in southern Alberta as I much preferred it to Banff. I will absolutely not be going back up there in that Gondola. By the time we were trapped up there against our will we could have driven to Lake Louise which is where we wanted to go instead. Huge mistake. Not worth it. We were told we could come down any time and they changed our ticket to 5:10 from 5:50 but we wanted to leave at 4:00. There were times when no one was in line and they could have easily let us leave, but they refused. Rethink that system, it's horrible. read more

Spectacular views from top. it was very cold when we visited and couldnot stay longer or take many snaps as my fingers were numbing out in the bone chilling cold even in march. Otherwise it worth the visit especially if its sunny and not cloudy. Definitely worth the price and time. read more

I went to this with a group of women on a tour while our husbands were working in Calgary. It was a nice peaceful ride up and down. Ok tourists, as a resident of calgary for 9 years and having been on this ride 5 times, let me break it down for you If you are looking for a cheap attraction, don't go on this ride unless you have a time machine to travel back in time. Cause the first time I went, it was $24 for adults, half price for kids under 15. Now it's $40, but I'd say for a tourist, splurge and go on it, it's worth it If you have a fear of heights,sit at the right side of the gondola door, not the left side, this way you won't see how high you are. Now, the convinient thing is that, there's food when you reach the top, just go with the fast food, a little pricier than normal fast food restaurant, but it's ok...here's a tip, don't order the burgers, if you order one you will know what I mean. The fries are decent. Now, the climb up to the top is completely safe,with railings and stairs, if you have a baby in a stroller, you are out of luck, but otherwise, if kids can climb 1 km it's ok. There are benches to rest on if you need a break Ice cream carts in the winter too! They will take a sovenior picture of your group in the gondola before the ride down, very pricey if you purchase, but you can see your pic when you get down to the bottom, at the gift shop before deciding to purchase. Starbucks at the ticket centre, perfect way to rewind and reflect on your experience. read more

Views are great. It's a must see. Most frustrating thing is a scheduled departure time. How could you possibly know how long you would like to take in the view? The last thing you need after traveling through airports and everything else is yet another scheduled departure with a hungry toddler. Extremely lame. read more

Great experience! Even with the smoke from the fire in BC, it's worth the trip. A short gondola ride up to some breathtaking views. Fun facts to learn along the well maintained "board walk". Lots of benches to rest due to lots of stairs and high altitudes. I do advise getting their early or late. The crowds and parking can be brutal May-August. read more
