We discovered Banfield when our cat was injured during (of course) the weekend, when our regular vet was closed. I didn't want to take her to the "other" emergency vet place because of the cost, so I called Banfield and they got her right in. Turns out she'd been attacked by another cat and needed quite a bit of fixing up. While we were waiting for the diagnosis, I checked out their pet wellness program and signed her right up - so an appointment that would have been almost $400 ended up costing just over $100! And her follow-up appointments, testing, and shots have all been cost-free. That wellness program is worth its weight in gold, I'm telling you! And it goes without saying that their staff is amazing and they clearly love animals. We've seen two docs there and both were fantastic, caring, and spent plenty of time with us and our kitty. Our usual vet was out of town and our 14 year old dog desperately needed her nails trimmed. She had a bad experience in the past and because of her age/frailty we like to have it done at a vet's office. We were super Pleased with what we found here!! We had to wait a while as they had to call on our dog's rabies certificate so We were to observe how the staff handled their Incoming patients. These people truly care About their patients (and their owners) and as busy as they were they were extremely detail Oriented and very caring! This Banfield is better than the rest. Ask for Dr. Lee. He is young but is by far the best Vet we've seen. He was thoughtful and spent a lot of time working on our cat's silly looking swollen chin. He went so far as to bring in MULTIPLE medical text books, with pictures, to back-up his diagnosis. Our cat has gotten better since seeing him and we are really happy with the experience. My husband and I have brought several dogs to this Vet clinic and have had an array of experiences but after this last experience with customer service we will not be returning. Our stance on Banfield has always been "meh". They aren't the best and they aren't the worst. Their main draw being that we could usually get our pets in with little to no heads up and because we have a busy life that was what kept us coming back. Our first unsatisfactory experience happened when we had to make the difficult decision to put our elderly dog down. We called ahead and scheduled an appointment. Upon arrival, we had to carry our very sick and weak GSP in. She could no longer stand and was in really bad shape. There were no other patients in the office at that time. We were not acknowledged by the receptionist/vet tech as we stood there in the lobby. She didn't make eye contact with us for what felt like an eternity and considering the size of the lobby her walking past us to go behind the desk and then back to the examination rooms made it even more uncomfortable. We stood there with our dying dog in our arms with tears running down our face as she continued to walk around sanitising the adjacent examination rooms. Once she finally acknowledged us she did try and redeem the situation by getting us into a room as quickly as possible but at that point we had already told ourselves we weren't coming back. To be ignored and not even greeted during an emotional time like that should have been the first and last nail in the coffin but like I stated previously they are convenient and we did eventually return. We have taken our basset hound and choc lab her for a few procedures and had nice experiences. They could have been made better if there wasn't a feeling of being "sold" on certain services but none the less a couple of good experiences sprinkled in there. The second bad experience came when it was time to put yet another elderly dog down. We had adopted an elderly stray who blessed us with her presence for a full year before her health started to decline drastically. Once again we had to make a tough decision and called Banfield to see if they could get her out of her pain. We were initially told yes that they could get her in that day. The receptionist put my husband on hold and when she came back on the line told him that they were "too busy" and they couldn't see her because they had not seen her previously. This is after thousands of dollars spent to treat our other dogs. From teeth cleaning/pulling to actual operations but our dollars spent and loyalty meant nothing to this vet clinic. We really should have known better but like I've said they are just usually so accommodating when you're in a pinch. We ended up taking her to the emergency room and said goodbye to that sweet girl there. The final straw just happened. I made an appointment for my bloodhound to have his shots updated and nails trimmed earlier in the week for this Friday at 5pm. I am expecting and do not currently run any of our household errands due to Covid. My husband left work early to come home, retrieve our dog and make it to the appointment on time. I told him that they want you to call once you've arrived and then they will take the dog from you at the door as I had been instructed by the receptionist earlier that week. My husband stood out front of the office from about 4:55 until 5:15 calling only to see the receptionist press the hold button over and over again. She didn't even have the decency to make eye contact with him and mouth "one minute". She really couldn't even be bothered to just hold up her finger as to say "one moment". I get times are hard right now but seriously? The front desk is maybe 20 ft from the glass front door. It would have taken no energy at all for her to just make eye contact and acknowledge that another human being is trying to communicate with her. In fact, that is in essence what her job is. A good receptionist makes you feel welcome even in times of social distancing. Covid-19 should not be an excuse to treat customers/people like they have no value and I really hope management can find a way to inspire her to do better or replace her with some one who actually cares about making people feel welcomed in their establishment. He left after waiting for twenty minutes for our scheduled appointment. To be honest I'm not sure why we expected anything other than what happened. I do not recommend this vet clinic. read more

Terrible service. They claim our dog is growling at them when he is just grunting. BIG DIFFERENCE between the two, so they wouldn't even trim his nails. He's a service dog, he wasn't growling. Ripped him away from my husband and expected him not to have a little anxiety to go to the backroom. What a joke They need to learn the difference between and growl and and grunt. Quoted us over $1200 for our dogs broken leg and said they wouldn't take X-rays unless they put him to sleep. Went down the road to Kulshan Vet and paid a total of $400 with medication and complete care and didnt even consider putting him to sleep. Can't believe it. I have a sick kitty now and have been told they have no appointments until two weeks from now. Their reasoning is that they have a lot of new pets coming into the clinic. So I guess they don't care about their regualr loyal customers? New pets mean more pet wellness plans they can pitch. That is what it tells me. What upset me is we lost our other cat Puffin last year and was told the same, no appointments. At the time he was in pain which we found out later was oral cancer. I finally took him to an emergency vet and paid hundreds of dollars for his care to have him put down later. We have been loyal customer with Banfield for nearly 9 years. NEVER have we had this happen. We pay nearly $200 a month total for our 3 kitties for one of their wellness plans. We are to get office visits free. Well, don't anyone get sucked in to their wellness plan. It ain't worth it!!! You can't take your kitty in when ill. They drained, cleaned bandaged and loved on my kitty. They were so kind to my cat and to me. They enrolled me in the wellness plan (preventative care that includes annual dental cleaning, vaccines, flea meds and discounts on unplanned services). They know my cat by name and are always happy to see him. I will be heart broken when I eventually move away and have to find a vet elsewhere. read more

I prefer Dr. Lee and Dr. Danson, both are remarkable when it comes to handling Mya and they take the time to answer any and all of my questions. I only give a 4-star because as a non-private practice there comes some limitations when dealing with more serious issues, thankfully I have not had any to experience with my dog so Banfield is a great choice for me. When I call my son's pediatrician to schedule a routine appointment, such as a checkup or vaccinations, there is quite often a lengthy wait to get an appointment. This is fairly normal and even to be expected. But when I call my son's pediatrician to report a high fever, the pediatrician's office finds a way to fit my son into their schedule as soon as possible. The pediatrician understands that more urgent medical issues require more urgent medical attention. The same should be said of veterinarians. When I call to schedule my dog's annual vax, I don't expect to be seen that same day. But when I call with a more urgent medical concern -- in this case my dog's skin allergy (which I already reported to your office once before and tried the solutions your receptionist suggested) has worsened to wounds across his underbelly and he is an established patient of yours-- then I do expect to be seen more urgently. Perhaps not the same day, but efforts should be made to see and treat my dog sooner than five or six days. Now, perhaps this is a breakdown in service between your medical staff and the front desk. But it's a breakdown that affects the health and wellness of my pet. I'm not comfortable waiting five days for you to see my pet for an urgent medical issue and neither should you be. read more

I would never take my cat here again. My wife and I took our cat Charlie here because it's really close to our house and Charlie hates being in a car (and she's older) so we thought we would find somewhere closer to make the vet trip easier on her. The first time we took Charlie in was for a lot of vomiting and to get her ears checked because she had been scratching them a lot. The whole visit was about $150 (including the ear sample) and nothing really came of the visit. They said her ears were fine and just needed a cleaning (which they did a half-assed job at) and sent us on our way with advice to watch her vomit habits. Duh... The next visit was early October because Charlie had vomited about 24 times in 24 hours. They took blood for testing and told us she had pancreatitis and she was probably in "excruciating pain". I know my cat... and I know cats hide things very well... but this cat was not in excruciating pain. But the vet - an Indian woman, not sure of her name - made us feel so guilty and scared that we got her under-the-skin hydration therapy and some pain meds and we went home. This trip cost us about $700. We got home and poor Charlie had such a bad reaction to the pain medication that she didn't sleep/eat/drink water for about 48 hours. We called the vet the next day and told her this was happening and she was extremely condescending. I told her it was clearly a bad reaction and that she won't get better if she's not drinking water, since typically hydration is how pancreatitis gets better. She told me "your cat is clearly in pain and should be brought back in for more pain meds." WHAT??! You are a lunatic, lady. She is the most cold-hearted vet I've ever come across. She is clearly in it for the money - this whole place is. They're more about the up-sell than anything else because you walk in the door and they basically make it seem like you need the Wellness plan, no matter what you're going in for. She made it seem like I don't know my cat at all - the cat I've had for 10 years - and that she clearly knew her much better. I told her the pain meds were having a bad reaction and she said "mmm... no, this doesn't happen. You need to bring her in again." One minute on Google proves her wrong because I found a TON of accounts of people who have given this particular medication to their cats and they've had the same reaction. We transferred Charlie to our old vet, Northshore, and they seemed concerned about her treatment at Banfield. They put a note in her file saying she shouldn't have those kinds of pain meds, ever. The best part is they told us Charlie had a "significant" ear infection that had been going on for a while, which was the original reason we took Charlie to Banfield. GREAT! Thanks so much for the wonderful treatment of our beloved cat. DON'T GO HERE. They are horrible people. Another thing: When we called Banfield to tell them that Charlie was reacting badly to the pain meds, the receptionist talked to us for a while and told us to change Charlie's food to all wet food because that's what worked for her cat. We did that and our cat is night and day different. We got better advice from the receptionist than either of the vets at Banfield. Two thumbs down. This place downright sucks. read more

Amazing and caring staff. We had an emergency with our puppy and it was close to closing time, they helped us immediately and contacted an emergency pet hospital for us. They greeted us at the door and made sure we (the parents) were okay because we were obviously freaking out. One of their nurses and the doctor even sat on the floor with our puppy. They organized his treatment with the emergency hospital and made everything easy for us. So thankful to have such caring and dedicated people watching out for our pup. read more

Unfortunately, Yelp does not allow me to award the number of stars I would like to award these wonderful people (3 digits minimum!) I had to make an end-of-life decision for my dog, Rosa. She was an American Eskimo Dog about 16 yrs old. I had her for 14. I never identified her as a service dog, but she certainly performed all of those functions for me. I knew the time was coming soon, but I had hoped I could plan for it and have a doctor come out to the house with the whole family in attendance. That didn't happen. On Monday morning she was having trouble staying on her feet, then she went into convulsions. I took her to Banfield. We've always gone there, and we've always been satisfied with their service, they know her. I don't know if it was the look on my face, or the way Rosa looked when I carried her in the door, but the young lady behind the counter knew immediately why we were there and got us right into a treatment room. The Dr. came in quickly, saw her, and we spoke briefly and agreed it was "time." They were very compassionate as they explained the procedure and told me I could be present or I could leave. My choice was obvious, I asked if I could hold her as they did the procedure, they said of course. The injection took effect immediately and Rose closed her eyes and was at rest. I was crying and there were tears in the eyes of the Dr. and the technician, the same young lady that greeted us. They put a blind over the window and told me I could stay with her as long as I wanted. For that, thy earned a 2 digit review. A week later, I got a hand addressed card in the mail from Banfield. It was a "corporate" sympathy card (not a criticism.) When I opened it I was blown away. All of the employees (14)had not only signed it, put written a very heartfelt, personal sentiment. There were also two other smaller, hand-made cards, one in the shape of a heart the other a rectangle made with layered Lace-like paper with a beautiful poem on the back. On the front of each was Rosa's paw print. I cried again. I will cherish those forever. These people went WAY above the call-of-duty and certainly way beyond my expectations. It will be a while before I find another companion 9and never find one to replace Rosa) but when I do, I will certainly take them to Banfield and recommend them to everyone I know. We are from out of state and my 14 year old dog had issues. We couldn't be happier and more pleased with both the hospital and the staff. Their prices were no higher than our regular vet in PA. The room was clean, the doctor knowledgeable and helpful. She did offer us the wellness plan but we simply said no and there was no issue. They were not pushy. I thought my Siberian husky had a bladder infection. He did. The test and meds were comparable with PA. We opted for the 1 time shot instead of the 14 days of antibiotics. We had the shot before for him in PA and I believe the cost was less out here. I would highly recommend them to anyone who regularly takes care of their pets and knows the costs. We had our other dog along. The doctor spent time with him, not for an exam, just so he felt like he was not slighted. read more

I cannot say enough good things about Banfield. My cat ate some lily petals and I had to put him through 48 hours of fluids and treatment, which meant transferring him back and forth between day and night clinics four times, and Banfield made this stressful experience so much easier. The staff is incredibly kind and qualified, they treated my cat very well and even though he was very stressed and a bit difficult to work with, they found an employee he responded well to and had her take charge of his treatment. They helped set me up with a wellness plan than not only paid for itself (because this process was costing me over a thousand dollars) but I ended up getting money refunded. Banfield is also connected to the local Emergency Animal Clinic (the only night time vet around Bellingham), which happens to be only about a mile away from Banfield. Because they have duel ownership, it made it incredibly easy to take my kitty back and forth, as they would notify each other ahead of time and fax over any necessary information. Not only that, but this also made my cat's two nights at the Emergency Animal Clinic cheaper as well. I've worked with multiple doctors and assistants there and they're all so amazing. Seriously. Banfield was recommended to me by a friend who was on the puppy plan so I brought my puppy there too. I was immediately not impressed. They put me onto the puppy plan without asking my consent, and once I was on the puppy plan I felt very confused about what exactly was offered and when I needed to come in for his shots and other necessary puppy treatments. Once, I knew I had made 2 appointments with them and called to confirm the dates and times of the appointments. They told me I did not have any appointments made for me, even though I had an appointment confirmation card in my hand. They were repeatedly rude and unhelpful. I have stopped going to them even though I am still paying for the puppy plan and have chosen to take him to another vet because of their repeated displays of incompetence. read more

My dog is eleven years old and beginning to show her age. Considering that I've had her for eleven year's, I'm hesitant about the possibility of her ever getting sick. I suppose the term "worry wort" would be an appropriate label for myself. When I moved to Bellingham from San Diego for school, I signed up with this pet hospital due to the fact that you can find a Banfield pretty much anywhere in the country (and I seem to travel with my dog frequently). The vets there are AMAZING. They are very genuine and don't try to nickel and dime you out of your money. The Vet assistants will spoil your dog rotten with treats (if you give them the okay) and your dog will become EXCITED to go see the vet... at least, that's how it has been with my dog. Banfield has really done a fabulous job at taking care of my dog, giving her shots on time, reminding me when something is due, and following through with it. I haven't been going to banfield for long, probably about two months now, but that's because I only just recently adopted a cat. My cat is disabled and has needed a lot of vet attention, so he's gone in about three times and has two more appointments scheduled just for this month. For a vet inside a PetSmart, I am blown away by the customer service they give me and my cat. The first appointment we had, the nurse (is that what you'd call them?) who was in the room helped us get on an insurance plan for my kitty that was right for him. At first I was a bit skeptical because I was worried I was just being sold something, but boy was I wrong. The peace of mind that the unlimited vet visits I get is so awesome, but aside from that, we've actually really NEEDED it and it's already saved me a bunch of money. Because my cat has had teeth problems in the past, she suggested a plan that included dental care, and that has also saved us a lot of money and pain because he has already needed to get one tooth removed! Aside from looking out for us in vet plans, the actual vet is just so amazing. I'm not sure her name, it's something like Doctor Dan-something, and she is just so incredibly caring. I can just really tell she loves animals. She is very kind to my cat, and my cat loves her and the nurses there because of this. She is patient and has answered all my questions and even though I can tell she is busy, never rushes us through appointments and always makes time for us. Today I called the vet because there was something up with my cats eye, and the nurse on the phone was so sweet and helpful. She was really caring and took her time answering my questions and she even spent time telling me how much she loved my cat and how well he did in his teeth surgery he went through the last time I was there. I am honestly so thankful I found this vet and am so impressed by how much they put into their job. You can just see how much like love animals, how much they really care about the wellbeing of your pet - which to me, my cat isn't just a pet, he's much more than that. My husband and I have had multiple cats and a Great Dane, and they are all enrolled in their Wellness programs. One of our cats was fifteen, and had a plethora of medical issues, including tumors on his thyroid. He became very skinny. Banfield prescribed him thyroid medication to slow down the affect the tumors had on his metabolism. In addition, he had to have many teeth pulled, and he had a tumor on his paw. They could not remove the tumor because they felt with his age and other health issues, he would not survive the surgery. They were very understanding and they loved Red to death! Last June, Red passed away at home. I was able to cancel his enrollment in the Wellness program with no issues on the corporate end, and the vets and staff sent us a "Sorry" card that they had all hand signed!! It was very touching. Besides Red, we enrolled our Great Dane puppy into their Wellness program because it included her spay surgery, at only about $25 a month! They have been great about reminding me to bring her in for shots and exams. And twice, Zuki had to go in for separate infections (one an ear infection and one a stomach bug). The staff were very helpful and it was great to get discounts on the products they sell. I think the only thing I could see them improving on is to stop trying to sell certain products or brands. Nearly every vet there recommended we feed our Dane Science Diet dog food, but honestly it's pretty bad food to give your Dane. We choose to feed her Taste of the Wild, because it is grain free and is made of real ingredients. Anyway, I've been very glad with the service they give, especially with the Wellness Program. It's comforting to know you can bring in your cat or dog for a free visit if something goes wrong. read more

I was desperate when I walked into Banfield because my cat fell ill very quickly. It was two days before Thanksgiving, other clinics were all fully booked till after the holiday. I explained my cat's condition, they were able to squeeze her into their busy schedule within an hour, thanks to the sweet and understanding receptionist, so were the other girls, very nice and friendly, caring and helpful. Dr. Lee was so thorough and professional. He explained in great details of my cat's prognosis and treatment plans so that I would understand. My cat got treatment right away and that probably had saved her life. She received amazing care. They even figured out that she likes cold water and went through trouble to find the food she likes( she's a very picky eater). They kept clean and even washed her blanket. All these was during her short stay there. They have this wellness plan that saved me tons of money. I strongly recommend that you go and check it out if you have a pet. I am an Optimal Wellness client at the Banfield Clinic in Bellingham with one dog, a 10 month old mix breed pup. For a week my dog has been vomiting on and off, is lethargic, and not eating. Twice I've called Banfield Bellingam to see a doctor. The first time I could not see anyone because they were "short staffed", and the second time I couldn't see anyone because they were "short staffed". Each time I explained that severe vomiting is an emergency life threatening condition. That didn't matter because they must "stick to their schedule" and I was told to go to the emergency clinic. So the first time I went to the Animal Emergency Clinic, which cost me $212. The second time will be today and I'm seeing another clinic that had time for my vomiting pup. I'm sure that will cost me several hundred dollars, as well. What the heck am I paying a monthly fee to Banfield if I can't get my sick dog into see them, or at least have someone do a blood test on her to see what is going on?! The service is obviously meant for dogs that are well, not sick ones. I'm quitting your program for it is a rip off. I'd rather pay higher vet fees somewhere else and be able to get my dog in to see a vet when she's seriously sick. read more

We had been using them for 11 years, after the vet we saw left the practice last October (NEVER NOTIFIED) the quality of care was on a steep decline. They did not have vets staffed for months after that could perform surgeries, including dental cleanings. It is very odd how they function- you arent there for the care of your pet its a drop off basis. As of recently, we took our 3 dogs in mid November for comprehensive exams. One of them, is no longer with us. We said she was not herself, described her symptoms and were told she was healthy (despite rapid weight loss, told she was ideal weight) besides an elevated enzyme- take this medicine and follow up in 30 days. Well, she only had 2 more weeks to live. Our other dog, I knew he had some ear infection of some sort, but after a comprehensive exam he checked out ok? Something is wrong with that picture. Had they listened to our concerns, our pet would have been diagnosed sooner and not overlooked. We called to get our pet in and were told to go to ER Vet and they had no way to see her that night (They were still open 3 more hours when I called) nor the next day. Stay away, if you love your pet, do them some justice and avoid Banfield. Don't let your pet be another number for them. After calling their corporate 12/5 my plans are still NOT cancelled as I was told they would be. read more

DO NOT TAKE YOUR PET HERE! Horrible vets. One vet gave my dog a clean bill of health to set up a future dental cleaning two weeks later. I took my dog in and somehow she "developed a heart wormer" and they recommended X-rays and no dental. After X-rays they said she was fine for a cleaning. But this set me back $900.00 While sitting in the lobby a man with a very similar situation was upset and demanded his X-rays for the heart wormer his dog supposedly had, but then didn't have. I asked my my X-rays too. After a second opinion a different vet said my pet did not have a heart wormer. They scammed me into paying for unnecessary X-rays and pushed the $600 dental! After learning my dog had no need for this costly service I called to speak to a manager. I was given the run around and even hung up on. I truly believe this "pet hospital" is all about money.. I encourage every person to read reviews about them! There are much worse stories than mine. read more

Our almost ten year old Standard poodle gave us a scare a few days ago. She was not able to stand or walk . Since we have only just moved to Bellingham Washington area we did not have a veterinarian chosen yet. But fortunately we happened upon a very kind and intelligent veterinarian in Dr. Lee at the Banfield Pet Hospital . He examined our girl thoroughly and a gave us some piece of mind that she did not have some more serious problems like spinal injury or cancer. But rather a bad case of aggravated arthritis . Perhaps the four hour grooming session the day before caused her to be in too much pain the next day. She got a shot of bupreorphine and some meds to take later She was walking out of this appointment when we had to carry her in. Although she was looking like she had a few two many martinis for the rest of the day. His support satff and especially Sam were all very attentive and helpful too. Very excellent first experience here. read more

If I could give them more stars, I would. On a recent visit to Bellingham, our French Bulldog's eye seemed to be bothering her. Banfield got us in within a couple hours of my calling. The staff was friendly and considerate. We were seen by the vet, Dr. Little, within a few minutes of our arrival in a nice, clean exam room. Dr. Little was gentle yet thorough in his exam of our dog, and he had excellent skills and knowledge. He was also able to communicate all aspects of the exam and treatment on an understandable layman's level, which I greatly appreciated. We had to return a few days later for a recheck, were greeted warmly by staff, and again had little to no wait-time. Dr. Little was, once more, absolutely terrific with our dog. He also provided me with all paperwork necessary for follow-up with both my home vet and with my pet insurance company. Banfield followed up with phone calls the day after each visit, to be sure or dog was doing ok and that we had no concerns or questions. read more
