I can't say enough about NVH and the care we've gotten here. My dog was 14 years old when we moved to Bellingham. We'd heard good things about Dr. Williams. Her care is so knowledgeable and thoughtful, always keeping cost in mind. During a routine tooth cleaning the doctor found a problem that must have been there for years that no one else had found- making the dog much more comfortable. Not only is the doctor great but the front staff has also been very helpful. Recently my dog was diagnosed with giardia and I've called several times with complex questions. Every time I'm taken seriously and gotten answers that were thorough and helpful. Our son also takes their dog here. They see a different vet and are also really happy. So comforting to know I have great care for my aging dog. read more

This was the worst experience I've had at any vet clinic. I walked my elderly dog in on a leash for a simple blood draw and she came out unable to walk. The young boys who assist took her in and turned her upside down probably pinching a nerve or moving her bones out of position . I will have to take her into a chiropractor immediately as she is in pain. Stupid stupid people! Never trust this place and I suppose they are not booked fully because no one wants to use their services. I am Livid!!!!! Never let these people take your dog into the back room for anything! The GREED of this veterinarian office has absolutely NO limits. I just brought my Australian Sheppard into the office to have his nails trimmed and they charged me $40 and they even said they only had to cut his front nails. THIS IS ABSOLUTELY OBSCENE and SHAMELESS! They also charged me more than $600 to prepare his documents for travel to the EU a couple of months ago. No medicine, just $600+ to complete a document by the administrative staff about his basic medication history (rabias, microchip) and his basic stats (age, weight, breed, address), which was then just double checked by the Vet. Unless you are so rich that you don't care about money, DO NOT use this Vet. They are in the business of money not healthcare for our beloved pets. read more

My little terrier mix, Dolly, is very opinionated and not the least bit shy about voicing her opinion when things are not to her liking. That said, the entire staff at Northshore is very gentle and patient with her every time we visit. Dolly has had difficulty with anesthesia in the past, but Dr. Barron recently performed a dental on her and she had no dysphoria after the procedure. Dr. Kiffney and Dr. Barron put their heads together and came up with an anesthesia recipe that works for Dolly. What a relief! I am confident that Dolly is in good hands with Northshore! read more

The local Johns Hopkins of vet facilities. My dog, a 45-pound Coyote/lab cross, got loose with her leash attached.It got hung up and she was attacked by other coyotes. One bite mark completely engulfed the rear half of her body. After 12 days she'd gotten loose and came limping home and walked up to me and collapsed at my feet on my driveway. I took her to Northshore and they patched her up, saved her life. She was 14 at the time, and lived another 10 years, to a really old age - 24! What better testimony could there be as to how well these people know veterinary medicine. Despite the sour grapes I read in some of these reviews, if you're a responsible pet owner and are good at responsibly managing your pet's life, including visits to the vet's ofice, you can't do any better than this read more

The "End of Life" appointment at Northshore Veterinary Hospital in Bellingham for our beautiful 8-year old Keeshond, Roxy was traumatic for my husband and I. The Dr. gave her the first shot and left before she saw the horrific state it left our poor girl in. Roxy was blinded, paralyzed in her hind legs, her tongue was lolling out of her mouth and she was panning her head back and forth with large blinded eyes and so very scared. All we could do was talk to her and let her know we were there for her. We waited for what seemed like an eternity for the Dr. and finally I texted her to return and help Roxy out. After shaving 3 of Roxy's legs and giving her more shots, Roxy went to 'sleep', but it was anything but peaceful. We were not billed for almost a month for this awful experience, and I actually thought they were aware and sorry for the hurt they caused and were not going to bill us. But then the bill came and it was twice the amount they told us it would be. We took Roxy to Northshore Vet for over 5 years without a serious complaint and were very surprised and sad at the way her last appointment went. We will not be going back! read more

I read Liz H's very good review of Northshore and it caused a vivid memory of my bad experience. My cat was deathly ill. 1400 dollars and one day of veterinary care resulted in nothing conclusive. Worse, I was asked if I wanted to spend a few hundred more for a radiologist to read the x-rays, as the vet was not qualified to do this (so why have x-rays done?!). I drove my cat from Northshore to a farm vet in Lynden - the kind of place that has really large exam rooms for livestock. Why? I grew up on a farm and remembered that the professional care of animals on the farm did firmly exclude the anthropomorphizing of animals. As pet owners, that is our prerogative, but professionally it's a vets' no-go zone. The farm vet was able to probe deeply with his fingers to find a large tumor in my cat's gut. Based on the vet's learned hunch and with my concurrence, my dear cat was put down. After I regained my composure, I left with her little corpse and buried her in our rose garden. 1750 dollars and a mind-shelled emotional landscape later, I have lost a bit more faith in mankind. read more

I found a cat wondering, when no one responded to a lost cat I decided to take her to a vet to get checked out. Sadly, I chose Northshore. I go to another vet but they couldn't get me in and I had someone interested in taking the cat but wanted a health check. First of all, after I checked in I waited and waited. After 40 minutes I asked at the desk and they talked to the vet. I could hear the vet say they were leaving and to tell me I could maybe come back tomorrow. Another vet overhead and agreed to see my cat. They recommended a battery of tests and I agreed. 400.00 later we left but were told the test results would be back in two days. Two days came and went. I called after one week and was told the results were in but the vet was too busy to review them with me. Okay. After still not hearing anything after another week I called and was told the same thing...too busy. So I asked to have the results sent to me and I would ask my regular vet to look over them. Turns out this sweet cat is in stage 4 kidney failure. How can a person who has taken up a career to care for animals not take the time to call with these results? How can they not contact you ASAP to start figuring out comfort for a sick animal? I assume it is because they knew I had found the cat and most likely would not be interested in spending more money in her care. Not true, I will care of this sweet girl until her last breath. If you are thinking about going to Northshore, don't. It is a production house that is all about profit over care. read more

From the moment I called and made an appointment the staff was on point, attentive, and retrieved my pet's medical records from California ensuring Dr. Kimberly Barron had all pertinent information prior to seeing us. Dr. Barron was pleasant, attentive and informative as she dealt with my German Shepherd and his anxiety. The cost for the services rendered were acceptable and reasonable considering my experiences with my previous veterinary needs. I'd highly recommend this veterinary hospital. read more

Very disappointed with the customer service. I emailed requesting for a quote. They responded with a very vague answer and did not even answer all of my questions. I sent a follow up email and 7 days later, still no response. I grew up in the Bellingham area and it's sad that this local business is not providing the quality if service I would have expected. I contacted another vet office and they were super helpful and answered all of my questions in less than 5 minutes. Do your research. Their staff can be aggressive and the management stands behind those actions even after stating the staff was in the wrong. Watch your interaction with their staff. If you have a disagreement or just are upset about the care of your furbaby or just being frustrated with the interaction you are having they will flag you as disruptive and may ban you from their business. Tried to call to set up as a new client. They immediately asked if we could be placed on hold, and after waiting 20 minutes for them to pick back up we were informed they weren't taking new patients. Commented that it would have been nice to be informed of that before holding 20 minutes and the receptionist literally laughed. Northshore was my dog's vet for several years, and they were always great, but they truly shined when I lost my dog. They were incredibly compassionate and caring, and details like the card they sent afterwards felt personal and comforting. I can't imagine having to go through that experience anywhere else. I use to send anonymous gifts to this vet hospital(granola bars, best home grown maters).... Loved what good care they gave our beloved 5 pets. Several years... Not any more. I believe Covid was too much for this business. We lost 2 cats within 6 months. They adopted inefficient communication with clients and pet care. Vet hospital administration and new workers did not improve. With cat's needing care during Covid, this was not the vet to try to communicate or get care with. I am thankful for Dr. Kiffney helping with the last days of our Towhee's life. And still think a lot of her. The owner backed up her administrator who made some inappropriate comments about my dying cat. Of which she never apologized.... BTW.... Been visiting this office for over 4 years, ever since my cat had an emergency bladder problem. Very nice people (except one front counter lady, who doesn't seem like she enjoys her job or helping people). Lots to offer at this Vet Hospital to help your loved one, however my two star review and me never coming back is due to this reason- My cat has been on prescription food to help prevent crystals forming in his bladder and blocking his passage way. This Vet office does a terrible job keeping your prescription food stocked!! Took 3 1/2 weeks to get his food, which was too late; having been fed other food for 9 days when we ran out of prescription food and he started falling into remission. Bladder was blocked and he was spotting blood. North Shore said they were too busy to see him and tomorrow at 12 would work. (I've been through this before with making midnight trips to the AEC. and paying a fortune, and just wasn't an option. Found a new office that took him right in that night and got us taken care of - unblocking him and getting him on antibiotics. Happy Kitty read more

My pit bull is a big girl. She's strong and gets really scared to go to the vet. Unfortunately for her she has a bunch of allergies and her Beautiful blue coat gets covered in hives at the slightest hint of allergy! The staff is very good at helping me calm her down and allows me to take the brunt of the wrestling to make her a little bit more comfortable, they never make me feel bad for her wild spirit and we will keep returning here for as long as we have her! Yikes, AVOID this place if you love your animal. Sheer and complete incompetence. They can't be bothered to read the chart to learn the past history, the techs either didn't pass along what we told them we were bring the dog in for or the vet didn't pay any attention to it. The communication is really bad and the test results were delayed by a week. This is one of the worst vets I have ever been to. They don't care about your loved one. If you don't know, just say so and we will try another vet. Don't waste your time going here. Take them to another vet where you will be heard and where they care to help. read more

Received excellent professional service from Dr. Jensen for our rabbit. She even saw us a bit early so we could make our ferry back home in time. I have been taking my pets to Northshore for years now. I am very picky about vet care. I believe Northshore is the best vet practice we have in Bellingham. The doctors are outstanding. They are medically advanced in terms of testing and treatment capability. They are compassionate and caring. I trust them completely. I had two older dogs with health issues, and they did everything possible to help them stay healthy, and if healthy wasn't attainable, comfortable and feeling well. When it was time to say goodbye, they were there for us too, with compassion and support. I recommend them highly. read more

In it I stated my frustration with a lack of financial options offered especially during the pandemic (I have been unemployed since March). I said I felt they were putting profit over an ethical care of animals and consideration the economic crisis. Today they called me about that survey. Not to talk it through. Not to come to an understanding. They called to tell me that they will no longer treat my dogs. My dogs are middle aged and elderly and now we are without a vet. If I wasn't confident in my assessment of their ethics before, I certainly am now. read more

If I were just able to rate the medical care, Dr. Jensen would get a 5 star, but this office is incredibly difficult to get an appointment and their customer service is subpar. This isn't my first bad experience but I finally need to share by experience with this hospital staff. Appintments are hard to get. Not only for the same day but even the same week, and when you do have an appointment, they lose you. I wanted my dog to see Dr. Jensen. I called one morning hoping to get an appointment for an non-serious issue. They didn't have anything available that day but said I could get an appointment the next day at their satellite office, which will be a higher appointment fee (about $20 additional). I asked for Dr. Jensen's next available which turned out to be over a week away. Fine. I arrived half an hour early for the appointment. Parked in the spot in front of the office in my big white truck. Texted the number to check in. No response. texted again 16 minutes later. No response. Techs are coming in an out, no one bothers to see if I need assistance. My large German shepherd's head is sticking out the window. Finally after an hour, I ask a tech on her way out the door to verify my appointment. She goes in and comes out, "did you text the number?" . I respond, "yes twice." Oh sorry, we can make you another appointment. "No thanks!" read more
