I made an appointment to bring my pup in for exam and urinalysis due to spotting blood in her urine and frequent urination with assumption that she had UTI but needed exam/diagnosis to get meds to get her feeling better. I drive my pup 25 minutes there and when I attempted to bring her in she was being anxious/difficult and planting her feet - 90 lb dog so I couldn't get her inside. Multiple associates saw this happening and were aware of her appointment, not a single staff member stopped and even pretended to try to assist me with getting her inside or even the bare minimum of acting like they like dogs and appreciate customers. I call and tell them I've having trouble getting her in the doors which they could clearly see and they're response or "help" was advising I can reschedule my appointment for her to a different time which doesn't solve the issue. Something as simple as a staff member acknowledging her and saying something kind in a sweet voice and petting her, maybe bringing out a treat to convince her to come in, but none of that was my experience. read more

If I can give this place less then 5 stars I would by far the most horrible experience not just one time but 3 times but the last one was the worse as a parent of fur-babies. After several attempts to resolve my issue telephonically, I am resorting to a more formal written complaint. For brevity, clarity, and conciseness, I will consolidate and summarize. RECENT ISSUES: Denial of Service and Misdiagnosis by Dr Culo In the last year, on three separate occasions, with three separate animals, we attempted to have our dogs and cat seen and treated by veterinarians at the BANFIELD PET HOSPITAL - GALLATIN, TN, and were denied service and told to go elsewhere. Beyond being denied service, our cat developed a mass on her limb. Over a period of seven months your veternarians were baffled and unable to diagnose the problem. Telling us "I have never seen anything like this" but also telling us we can "definitely rule out cancer." At one point, our cat was brought in because the mass was hemorrhaging. We were allowed to drop her off, but with no guarantee a vet could look at her. Seven hours later we were informed the cat could be picked up, but was still bleeding and we should consider taking her to an emergency room as they were getting ready to close. Upon seeking a second opinion outside BANFIELD, a veterinarian was able to diagnose cancer within a week after heavy testing and recommend a course of action. When we brought these matters to your attention, your representatives focused on the customer service. There are certainly those employed by the Gallatin hospital that lack basic level of understanding to read people who are dealing with serious, emotionally charged, situations. Others, such as the veterinarians, who lack compassion, or the time, to call to follow-up on a patient. We hope by documenting our experience, you can see, this far more than a customer service issue. We found our experience and outcomes to be unacceptable. Best vet experience! My kitten was pretty sick and my local banfield didn't have any appointments available for 2 weeks. This location in Madison got him in the next morning at 9am and were super helpful, professional, personable, and kind during our entire visit. We saw Dr. Tingle and he was awesome! They even eliminated testing that wasn't 100% necessary to help bring down some of the cost of my visit. Their treatment plan had my precious kitten back on his feet in a matter of hours and by the next morning he was completely back to his normal rambunctious self. I will now make this location my go-to for any and all of our family's future veterinarian needs. read more

Their Wellness plans is not worth it if you're just getting shots and comprehensive exams every 6 months you pay every month for that and when you go in you pay an additional amount and if something's really wrong with your dog you have to take them to the hospital and that plan does not cover you and if you decide to cancel your plan they're going to make you pay the full amount of whatever was done that year, so if you cancel do it at the end of the year they don't tell you that in the beginning. read more

We have 2 pups who have been patients with this clinic for years now and have found that the service you receive is really dependent on which vet you get. Because of the nature of the 'Banfield Clinic' brand you are not always guaranteed to see one specific vet unless you request it (so we always request our pups specific vet unless its an emergency). Since we started going to this vet we have had nothing but great experiences (with our selected vets). Their old vet Dr. Mullins was absolutely amazing and she left our pups in the very capable hands of Dr. Brandon Mullins and Dr. Tingle. They worked so hard to figure out what was wrong with our pup when no one else could and some other vets had given up and just thrown a lot of antibiotics at him, Dr. Mullins really dug into his situation and worked hard to figure out what was wrong and found a solution. I love that every time my pups are seen we are given a full run-down by the vet themselves about what is going on with their health. They give you all their findings and let you know if they feel they need to follow-up on something, but also understand that financially you cant always spend thousands on scans. And the front office staff is absolutely outstanding. We have had nothing but amazing experiences with them, especially with Pat, who has been there forever. She is a joy to talk to and I know we are in capable hands from start (talking to the front desk) to finish (getting that run down call/conversation with the vet). I also love that their vets are all connected and we are able to go to other Banfield's in the area if they cant get us in the same day at this office. Our pup was bit by a dog and needed to be seen same day and they reached out to the office in the next town over and was able to get her seen that same day, with a surgery done that day. I love that we don't have to wait on 1 or 2 Dr's in an office to get to see someone. And the wellness plan is great. Mind you, it isnt insurance (you should still get pet insurance to cover everything the wellness plan doesn't cover) and also remember you will have to either pay out your plan or expect to pay for the services you received if you have to cancel, but that is just common sense. It would be heartbreaking to keep paying on a pet that has passed, but it does make sense as well. Read the contract if you are going to complain about it later, that's what a contract is for. Most recently we had to go through the heartbreaking process of letting one of our cats go and after having her for 14 years it was a hard decision. Dr. Brandon Newton was AMAZING. He reviewed her information, what we had explained was going on and did a full exam on her he discussed all of our options with us in detail and allowed us to choose what we felt was best without making us feel bad for making the choice to let her go. The whole office was so sweet and understanding of how hard it was and treated both her with the love and respect that we had hoped for. A week later when I came to pick up her ashes they didn't make me wait in the long line and brought them to me and offered their condolences. For an 'office' that sees hundreds of people every day I honestly feel like they care about me and my pets. Overall, we love and highly recommend Banfield to everyone who asks. read more

I have been taking both of my dogs here for years. They're both enrolled in the wellness plan and never had any issues until the last 6 to 8 months. I make appointments for their exam and dental cleanings and when I arrive I am told that they can't do it that day because I either scheduled my appointment at the wrong time or it's the day that they DONT do dental cleanings. Of course they don't share that information with you until you show up If you have the basic plan, they push you to upgrade to receive additional services, but then throw up Roadblocks and red tape to get those services. The check-in staff is rude And don't make appointments in the Banfield app, for whatever reason the app is not linked to the system inside the office so there's a lot of miscommunication. The doctor said he was going to fill it right away, because he knew the Walmart was just across the street. We got to the Walmart and it hadn't been filled yet. We didn't live in the area, so it was a huge inconvenience. They kept telling us the doctor was in with other pets, and it was going to take a while. Ridiculous!!! read more

Horrible customer service by the staff here.....booked an appt for today at 2pm and asked them to make SURE it was NOT an appt where my dog would have to be put in a kennel....she has severe anxiety from being a rescue dog and would CRAP all over the place if you put her in one.....well the INEPT staff messed it all up and booked her in what is called a drop off appt, and since we did not know they screwed up till we got there we are now FORCED to come back at 5 on a Saturday to get her seen, which totally messed up our weekend plans.....this kind of service is UNACCEPTABLE and I will look to find other places to get her care if this location does not apologize to me for this GROSS NEGLIGENCE of service......POOR POOR POOR read more

We find it extremely valuable for well visits as well as dental visits. Take your pet ANYWHERE else. I took my dog there for a dental cleaning because they were hundreds cheaper then his normal vet. Pre-routine bloodwork turned up some concerns, so I authorized additional scans. After literally having my dog all day (8 am until 530 pm when they finally called to say I could pick him up), the experience went from bad to worse. The vet who called to go over the results literally delivered news like my dog was dying. The list of what she decided was wrong was endless- his gallbladder needed to be removed, he definitely had kidney stones, and there were spots on his spleen that were likely cancer. Not once did she ask about his behavior at home or if I was concerned he was sick, just dire news. I hung up and bawled hysterically. When I finally got to pick him up, I was left in the lobby for almost 30 minutes waiting on him while literally 10 feet away someone was putting down their dog. So I'm already emotional and add to this what's happening to another pet owner feet away. I could barely keep it together long enough to get out the door. Two days later I had a follow up with his regular vet who essentially says the last vet was wrong about everything except maybe we need to get his spleen checked and he may need medication for his gallbladder, but definitely didn't think k he would need surgery. Two weeks later I went to a specialist who literally disagreed with everything the vet said and went so far as to say, while she couldn't say for certain because they magically couldn't produce the scans when she requested them- after reading the scan she did, she didn't understand at all what they had seen and was worried they didn't even know how to read a scan. Hundreds of additional dollars later, my dog is rather healthy for his age and only needs medication to help with his gallbladder. I'll also note that both my regular vet and specialist agreed there was absolutely no sign of actual kidney stones that the Banfield vet insisted he had. And let's circle back to the scan the vet grossly misread.. I and the specialist both called trying to get the scans I had paid banfield for. The specialist was told they couldn't be sent because only one doctor could send them and they weren't in. I however was told what feels like a much truer story which is the scans couldn't be sent because "unlike most offices, our machine is just small and not very fancy." Actual words an employee said to me. So it seems not only is their vet not very skilled and lacks any bedside manner, but their equipment is terrible. Please, go anywhere else. read more

I am n it sure what happened to my original review as it is no longer here - so we'll try again. :) The Banfield Pet Hospital in Rivergate/Madison is amazing. I have 5 crazy furry babies and they have all been treated there - many, many times. Treatments have varied - from the usual check up and vaccinations to the extreme emergency spinal surgery for one of my dogs. Every visit is a joy even when my animals are in pain. They do everything in their power to comfort not only my furry baby but also me! Every treatment plan is discussed in great detail and every single question is answered. I love that they start slow - only doing the medically necessary items and expanding as we go ONLY if needed. I have always felt good about our treatment plans and the cost is comparable or less than other local vets. My babies have been patients here for several years and for many, many more to come. Every person I have referred has come back to tell me they had such a positive experience. They understand that your furry one is a part of your family and not just a "pet". I love all of the staff there - they love my babies and take care of them. Even with their special needs, Banfield goes above and beyond during every visit. read more

We had the best experience yesterday when we took our dog in for a Bordatella booster. We hadn't been to a Banfields in years and I swore I would never go back but this needed to be done before a grooming appointment. The only negative is that they did not put my appointment in the system so we had to go back home for an hour and come back later. The personable and polite people made up for the inconvenience. The vet we saw was SUPER! He told us everything he checked in the exam and what was good or not so good. Our dog has tarter and the vet recommended some honeycomb-shaped treats for the tarter. Our dog doesn't like to chew hard things but he loved these. On top of everything, we were able to use a new pet visit coupon which covered the cost of the exam. This will definitely be our place to go for vet services. read more

Do not sign up for the wellness plan. You still have to pay a bunch of money for your pet to be seen and, if your pet dies, you still have to pay whatever is left for the year "you signed up for." No one told me it was anything but month-to-month payments to offset the expense of my pet's medical needs. My pet died in October and I still had to pay through June of this year--almost $200. This is a scam. Don't fall for it. read more

When I moved to the Hendersonville, TN area in January 2007, Banfield was a pretty great veterinary clinic for simple care. Their insurance plan was wonderful and came in handy with our dog and cat. HOWEVER in the past year and a half, their quality of care has plummeted. Whenever I go in, there are different veterinarians and vet-techs. My first bad experience was when my 2-year-old cat was sick. They examined her and determined it was an infection and sent me home with antibiotics. Two days later (a Saturday evening), I was at the all-night emergency vet with a dying cat in my arms... and they were unable to save her. Banfield had basically patted me on the head and said it was nothing to worry about and sent me on my way. Going back through the papers from that last visit, they hadn't even bothered to do bloodwork on her -- the only notation was that they listened to her stomach and it was "gurgling". I felt partially responsible that I hadn't DEMANDED a more thorough examination - but at the same time, I expected the vet knew what he was doing and when they were confident she'd be OK, I felt like I could trust them. After she died, I tried to cancel the pet insurance I had through them for my dog and my now-deceased cat. They wouldn't let me cancel EITHER insurance plan! The dog, I understand. However, I was told I'd either have to let the insurance I'd carried on the (dead!) cat run out for the year contract or I'd have to back-pay all the discounted services I'd received already that year. (Which would have been several hundred dollars more than continuing to pay for insurance on a dead cat for 4 more months!) I found that just plain SICK. However -- this reflects on Banfield CORPORATE, not this specific branch. Finally, as I said, my dog still has insurance through them (it runs out in December and clearly I will NOT be renewing). She was due for a checkup and teeth cleaning. Had she been SICK I'd have rushed her to our NEW vet, but I thought that for a simple check up and teeth-cleaning I may as well take advantage of the insurance that I'm stuck paying $24/mo for. I took the dog in and get a call a few hours later saying that they can't get a catheter in her and that she keeps ripping it out (which she's never done before) so they'll be unable to clean her teeth. Ok, FINE. I don't really care. I go pick her up, and the poor dog is TERRIFIED. She's never had a bad vet-experience before but she's just not herself. ... Needless to say, I'm NEVER taking her back there for so much as a toenail clipping. I don't care if I had to pay insurance for the rest of forever, I'd never USE it ever again. I had to wait quite awhile before I was able to see the vet, but I was super impressed by the friendliness of the front desk representatives, so I had to give a shout-out. I was welcomed immediately upon arrival and was checked in within minutes. There was one employee "in training" and I believe his name was Josh. (Sorry if your name isn't Josh.) But there was a newer fellow in training when I visited on October 30th and he was excellent! During the time I was waiting to see the Veterinarian, his co-worker had left for a break and a sea of people came in and out needing assistance. I could tell that he was a little stressed, but he showed each and every person the same level of attention, patience, and respect despite his high-pressure situation. So whatever your name is- New Guy In Training, you were awesome and you deserve 5 stars. Keep it up! read more

I LOVE the Rivergate location. I have heard some iffy things about other Banfield locations but this particular location is top notch! The staff is amazing! They treat our two cats like they are their own pets. We started going there just 3 days after we got our 5 week old sister kittens because one was acting a bit strange. Turned out she had a horrible bacterial infection and they weren't sure she would make it through the next week. We inquired about their insurance, *(They did not force it down our throats at all, as I have heard some locations will do.)*... but because of the health of the one kitten THEY told us we should hold off on it because once we sign the contract we are obligated to pay for the full year, even if the animal passes the day we sign the contract... **It is the risk you take and is in the contract you sign! The biggest complaint I have heard about Banfield is their insurance and how it cannot be canceled once your pet passes. While I can only imagine how incredibly frustrating this is, YOU signed the contract....read everything before you sign, if you don't like that part, then don't get the insurance, it's not their fault... when you sign you agree to all the terms and unfortunately that's part of the deal** Sorry, that's my rant** :-) Anyway, they gave us some medication and told us to wait it out to see if her health improved, after a few weeks, when we knew she was out of the woods, we signed up for the insurance for both cats. They then gave us the discount from the original visit we would have received as if we had gone ahead and signed up for the insurance! That was awesome. Unfortunately our sister kitties have had many health problems (allergic reactions, infections and autoimmune disorder). They are just over a year old and we have been into the office so many times they seem like a second family to us. But on the bright side, the insurance has been AMAZING! Any little thing we think could be an issue we can take them in and have them examined, absolutely free of charge! If nothing is wrong we go home with a sense of calm, and if they find something we only pay a discounted rate on medications and tests not covered under the plan. And they do everything they can to keep it as budget friendly as possible! If they tell you everything looks fine but you have that eerie feeling that something is wrong (nobody knows your pet better than you) they will do everything you ask of them to make sure there isn't something they are missing. They listen to all of our crazy questions and always find an answer. We never feel rushed by the doctors and typically don't have long wait times. Now of course there are those days where they have one emergency after the other and obviously those animals get priority...if you get upset over having to wait longer so they can be seen first, then you probably shouldn't have an animal. (Just imagine if it were your pet with an emergency. Would you want people in the waiting room giving your dirty looks and complaining because they need to get their dog's nails trimmed so they can make it to dinner on time when you are worried sick about your animal surviving through the night?) I have seen some of the staff be treated horribly by some pet owners and I find it ridiculous! (Treat others as you would want to be treated!!) Every member of the staff have an absolute love of animals and are all incredibly friendly! It doesn't feel like a chain at all, the atmosphere is more like your local vet where everybody knows your name. I know my pets are in good hands and I would never go anywhere else. read more

The Banfield team is amazing! My dog loves everyone there and they always take great care of him. Their wellness plans are affordable and allow me to manage the inevitable repercussions of owning an energetic boxer puppy. In addition, I had to make the tough choice to put my cat down after the quick onset of a terminal disease. They bumped my appointment up, quickly came up with a diagnosis, and held my hand both figuratively and literally though the process of saying goodbye. I have been going here for 2 1/2 years now, and have never had anything other than an amazing experience, until today. We normally work with Dr. Devito, Dr Mullins, and also took a huge liking to Pat and Josh, but recently the whole staff we've worked with is new. This morning the drop off was sloppy and unorganized, and a new tech was rude when we dropped them off at 8 am. So when they called at 4:30 pm to say they were ready, but they couldn't even touch Mollie, or give Maggie and Miles their medicine we told them we're headed that way and would like to speak to the doctor. As soon as we walked in my husband told them we were there to pick up the pets, and said again we would like to make sure to speak to the doctor. After a few minutes, a frustrated (and rude) tech made me go in the back because they couldn't even "go by the kennels without the cats lunging at them" and tried to warn me saying the cats were vicious, and when they got out they tore place up today. I went back there and after them telling me to me careful 100 times, with no help from them explaining how to (after I asked), and being told my cat would lunge and attack me, I opened up the cage and scooped up Mollie where she melted into me. After I turned to Maggie's kennel, and the tech offered to hold Mollies leash, saying how she was not acting at all that way today, and they couldn't believe it. When I grabbed Maggie to put her harness on, Maggie cried out in pain, something that has never happened before, and when I put her down there was a dog who started trying to attack them (through its kennel). The tech who was holding Mollie was too scared to even help her, so instead she held Mollies leash as she was banging back and forth in between the kennels and choking herself, while Maggie tried to do the same, but I was trying to grab her and calm her, and everyone else stood around watching. The tech not only kicked the dogs kennel who was trying to get the cats (which is wrong), but when my dogs recognized the sound of my voice trying to calm everyone down they started growling/barking to get out, and the tech yelled at them to shut up very loudly. I was so appalled by what happened I scooped up my cats and walked out of there. After getting the dogs I went up to the counter where they gave me the meds that apparently they couldn't give any of my animals (but Minnie), and when asked to talk to the doctor, again, the receptionist said "I thought you talked to her back there, she left already". Now let me say, that made me mad because she didn't talk to me back there, and why would she leave if she didn't? So I responded "she didn't get a chance too because there was a dog trying to get at my cats" and the receptionist LAUGHED. I am furious with not only how my animals were treated today, but how we were as well. I'm also sad this happened because the animals usually LOVE everyone there, and we've never had any issues before. I'm disappointed, because none of them have never not been able to get treated, or even touched. read more

I cannot say enough about how wonderful this clinic has been. Dr. Kuhlo is the greatest vet I have ever known--she is so caring and thorough. We have seen her for a number of years and our Ella loved her so much. Unfortunately, we had to let Ella go just before Thanksgiving this year and this Banfield clinic went beyond what I would have ever expected. They literally watched for us to come in the door (knowing we were there to let her go) and took us immediately in to a room with a blanket waiting. The entire staff was so compassionate and caring during the whole process, which is probably the hardest thing I have ever had to do. Dr. Kuhlo's compassion for Ella and for us was so apparent and meant the world to me for her to be with us because Ella really loved her. Ella knew that Dr. Kuhlo loved her too and was always happy to see her, even on this evening. I cannot thank each of you enough for your compassion and care for all 3 of us each and every time, but especially on November 13, 2019 for being with us on that heart-breaking evening. The receptionist pointed me toward the massive pet supply store and said "good luck". I pointed out that they sold me a collar last year and he became argumentative. I explained I would be dropping my pup's wellness plan and taking my business elsewhere. Maybe the thousands of dollars don't matter to Banfield. I have never been so happy with veterinary care! They take such great care of my boy, Samson. Through all his allergy problems and his ACL tears, they are always there for me and make sure my pup gets the amazing care he deserves! The wellness plan has saved me SO much money with vet visits and medications. The whole staff is awesome, Dr. Mullins and Dr. Devoto are especially amazing! When it was clear I would not buy (after they gave a recommendation that went against what my regular vet and emergency vet's plan stipulated which would have put my dog's life in jeopardy) they left us in the room for 20 minutes.
