From my own experience: Affordable Vet engages in illegal practices under Tennessee law wherein they withhold veterinary records from new vets and impact patient care. Additionally, the owner uses the claim "this is a minority-owned business" as if somehow that excuses rude and reckless behavior. The clinicians do not perform any procedures in the room with the owner - not even temperature taking - so what procedures are actually performed and you're charged for are questionable. In my own experience I was pressured into using their services by their vets to spay a kitten who was too young and too sickly. I was told the kitten was a full-grown cat with dwarfism and pregnant. The cat has since grown, does not have dwarfism, and has come back into heat because tissue was missed in surgery. Additionally, I paid for further services to be rendered at a future date that were not documented - though the payment was taken - and when the animal was presented for those services, we were charged again for the same services because there was no documentation on the invoice of the payment made via phone of what had been paid for. This may be the most poorly managed business we've ever encountered. We've been bringing our dog to this vet for seven years, but during a recent visit for a teeth cleaning, my wife was verbally berated by a staff member. When she returned to pick up our dog, the female technician became even more verbally aggressive and badgering. After requesting to speak with the vet, the owner took my wife into a private room to discuss the issue but merely offered excuses for the technician's behavior instead of addressing the concern. We had been going to them for years without issues or complaints. I am not sure if they are under management, but the new staff is awful. Our dogs went in for a routine nail clipping. We could hear one crying and squealing from the back room. He came out with his nails gone down to the stubs. They damaged his nail beds so bad he's limping on all paws. It's heartbreaking. She snatched our puppy out our arms and took him to another area to do the exam. We where not given any information about the status of his health. I have been a client of this business for 6 years and the way I was treated on the phone was appalling. I can't believe the staff talks to its customers the way they do, or that the owner allows it. From what I've heard this is a common practice. Lori, I believe her name was, told me to take my business elsewhere because I questioned the $50 deposit to make an appointment, then hung up on me. I have never been thrilled with this clinic, but she did me a favor. After a routine wellness check at this location, our 5y/o dachshund mix was given a totally clean diagnosis with no previous symptoms. 12 hours later our dog began refusing food. 24 hours later he was refusing water and by the 36 hour mark he was vomiting and had intense diarrhea that eventually became very bloody. After an emergency trip to a local Vet Hospital in Murfreesboro, they ran blood tests and fecal samples and determined that our dog had picked up a Giardia. With the only change in our routine being our trip to this vet, we can only assume our indoor dog was exposed to an unclean environment and we will NEVER be returning to this location. Don't let the "Affordable" in the name convince you to settle for a less than optimal vet. read more

My dog was having long-lasting stomach issues, and I couldn't afford the usual vet. This place was willing to see her on short notice and they were WONDERFUL!! There was a long line at opening, and my wait was about 2 hours long, but after an exam, prescription medications, and a fecal testing my bill was only about $80-- would've cost 3-4 times that at my regular vet!! Today I brought my pet to this clinic which I have brought my other animals too. I tried to explain to them that I needed her nails clipped due to an ingrown nail. I explained that I tried calling several times last week but no one answered so I was unable to make an appointment. She was very hateful with me at that point and said it's a two hour wait. I asked could we put her in line and come back within that time. She was still short and hateful If your not here when it's your time you lose your place. She never mentioned they would call me. The vets are good here however if this is how you are treated at the front desk it's not worth it. It takes Zero effort to be kind. They will not get my business ever again. Decided to take my 3 year old cat Benjamin to this vets office, and needless to say I'll never take another animal here again. My cat was suffering with seizures and instead of giving me any idea as to what could be the reason for his seizures. When I asked what I should do or if the medication they wanted to give him would work I was told that they didn't know. I had to take him to the emergency vet clinic and sadly had to put him down. If I were you I would spend the extra money taking your beloved animal somewhere other than here. They'll be nice to you over the phone, but don't expect them to be helpful once you're there. My senior dog (12) has a nasty ear infection so I called this morning and finally got through at 9:45 am the lady who answered was nice and said to come in as soon as I could they take walk ins from 9-5pm. I told her I was coming from Murfreesboro and she said nothing about her not being seen only there would be a wait. Nothing was mentioned about a cutoff time. I drove 37 miles and walked in to be told Lacey couldn't be seen today they cut off the customers at 10 am. I was not happy. The man at the desk was not sympathetic or understanding. do NOT take anxious pets here. They seemed caring a few years ago but have since turned into a cold, clinical factory. Get in, get out, on to the next victim. Our last visit the tech couldn't even take a minute to acknowledge our anxious dog, just grabbed him up which of course made him react like a toddler and cry out while scrambling to get back to mom. No growling or biting, just whining and squirming. When I said "if you would take 2 minutes to let him get comfortable with you it might go better" the response was "we don't have time for that." Been taking my dog to them since she was a puppy. They see walk in patients on the weekends. Today when we walked in around 1:30 they say they can't see her, and the next appointment was on Thursday. If they can't see a dog in the walk in, the least they could do is to work them in before Thursday. You would think that they would keep some appointments for sick dogs and cats. Would not recommend getting involved with them and they are not all that affordable either. They charge an arm and a leg for the medicine you get from them. *called me a BITCH for Not blindly wanting to play guessing games* We've taken our dogs here for 2 years now and always had a good experience and very professional.... Well, that all has changed post covid. They no longer want to evaluate dogs in the room which would be fine but when we bring an injured dog in and then they don't even see where it is bothering the dog it becomes an issue. They thought it was a scab on her wrist bone even after I told her it was her shoulder... they prescribed her medicine and sent me on my way. Meds did nothing but make her worse and lethargic, took her back and they say "oh it's her shoulder" after we made them check her out in the room... I told them I just brought her in lasts week and told them that and I didn't want to pay the office fee because they refused to listen to me. They then suggested a 300+ X-ray while telling me they may not find anything on it... I told them I wanted bloodwork down because she had had an open wound on her toe that we healed. I asked about Lymes disease and bloodwork because of a similar situation with another dog and I said I was used to better care in a small town where we lived and tech got mad and told me to leave bc I didn't like their suggestions and I told her I just want my dog properly diagnosed and not to go back and forth paying office fees for them to continue jumping hoops and giving different meds to guess at it. I'm not paying for them to play games.... Well as I'm leaving she told me to give her the prescription back since I don't want to pay an office fee and I ripped it up at that point since she told me to leave and she called me a BITCH and told me I was the reason for all the problems in life and our family is a crazy family for having 7 kids. I'll admit I should have not ripped the paper up, but when someone is yelling at you because you challenge them wanting to spend your money while telling you "it very well might not show anything and then we'll need the bloodwork too" instead of just going the conservative route to begin with and then calling me a BITCH and insulting my family.... That's a miserable human who could deff use to pick up some paper off the floor and remember the people that pay their salaries are the ones who care about their animals and want them cared for well. read more

2 years ago I brought my puppy i to affordable vet because he was having seizure. They told us he had a brain tumor and only 6 weeks to live. We had got a second opinion and that vet told us of other treatmen options that affordable did not tell us about. We wrote a google revie stating our unpleasant experience with affordable as anyone has the right to do. Today we took our other puppy in because she is sick and our regular vet isn't open. When we got there they refused to see us and told us to leave and they would NEVER see any of our animals again because we left a review 2 years ago and This was again a bad experience with affordable vet. I told them I would be writing another review to which the dr said "Wel we're also minority owned." Like what does that have to do with anything. So basically they refused to see my sick dog because they are more worried about their appearance than the health of my puppy. Don't take your pets there ever! They don't care about your animals only their appearance and making money. What an awful business read more

I took my 5yr-old Basset hound to this clinic today. I adopted her from a Basset rescue and have had her for about 6wks. Anyone who has ever worked in rescue knows that rescued dogs come with a lot of baggage and they need a lot of patience and to be put at ease by caring professionals. This is NOT the type of "care" we received from Ashley Smith today. My dog had already had her preliminary exam and shots 6wks ago but I was concerned with a possible ear infection. She was fine when we were put into the exam room by the sweet, and professional male vet tech. When he returned with a pair of exam gloves and tried to talk to her, she walked over to him, but freaked out and started to bark once she got a whiff of the gloves. He took one of them off, but was unable to take both off because he had been attacked by a cat earlier in the day per his own admission. Full disclosure, I don't know much about my dog's past, but I do know that she does sometimes have some aggressive tendencies. I've been giving her a combo of two different medications for the past 6wks and this has all but resolved. Once she was freaked out by the tech though, she just kept barking at him. He mentioned that on her paperwork from her vet appointment 6wks ago that the vet had written that he wasn't able to check her teeth because she was a "fear biter". I knew it said this, but a lot had changed in 6wks. The tech said Dr. Smith was going to come in and meet with us and determine if she could examine my dog today, or if we would need to get a prescription and come back at a different date. Next thing I know, the door swung open and Ashely Smith was standing in the doorway. She never looked at, nor spoke to my dog. Only tried to demean me about my dogs behavior saying, "I won't touch a dog and take a risk of getting bit, because if she bites me, YOU'RE OUT!" Why I didn't walk out then and collect my $50 deposit (which is RIDICULOUS anyway) I don't know. Then she prescribed a VERY unsafe dose of medication for my dog for me to give her and bring her back Friday. She also tried to tell me one of the meds my dog is on is "nowhere near enough for her size" and that medication isn't even size dependent. I have a vet friend in another state that I followed up with after this horrific appointment. I told him the med cocktail they sent us home with and the instructions of how many I'm supposed to give prior to the next appointment and he said that it was extremely dangerous and could kill her! So, not only am I writing this review, I'm filing a report with the Vet licensing board to have them review it. I grew up with animals and recently had a beagle that lived to almost 17yrs old. Was rushed in and out without discussing a treatment plan with me and the vet was only in the room for maybe 5 minutes. Never saw her again after she left the room and she never cared enough to call and check in on my dog even though we were in there multiple times the same week. Was told to hurry up and making a decision on treatment while in the room because "staff was waiting in the back to go home". Not the thing you want to hear when your baby is sick. Update: Went back for a simple gland expression hoping my experience would be better. Was taken back into a room and told that maybe this clinic wasn't for me and that I was not allowed to be seen at this clinic again because I left a "nasty" review (above review) and that I "refused" some of the treatment at the end. I did not refuse treatment, I was told by the vet tech if he was not nauseous anymore the next day to skip a couple of the meds the following day (I guess they don't leave notes). I didn't receive any sort of call or email to ask me about my experience and try to make anything right from the beginning. I didn't leave a "nasty" review, just explained exactly what happened during my visit. It's very unfortunate that this is a business's approach for handling customer dissatisfaction. read more

I told my story of a spine injury misdiagnosed as "possible hip arthritis". How she was in pain and suffering during her time being taken to their establishment. Do you want to take you beloved pets here? Is this professionalism? The business stated: "This review is from a woman with a mental illness. She has made up a variety of stories that are not true and has put bad reviews on several public platforms. If anyone wants to know about our wonderful clinic and vets and staff they can call or visit anytime. They can also read our other published client reviews. I hope Ms. Bruce gets the mental healthcare she needs." Update... she's doing MUCH BETTER! It's amazing what the correct diagnosis, medications, and treatment will do! First off...We began taking her to Affordable Vet in 2017. She was diagnosed with an "arthritic hip". She was put on meds but something just never felt right. I began questioning the meds she was on and wanted to try others. We tried one other, but still no better, even worse. Then there was the whole debacle with the little kid, I'm always right Tyler that answers the phone. He couldn't get it thru his head that a delay with her medication would mean she wouldn't be able to get up and go about. He wanted to be "right", I wanted my dog to not have to go thru hell for their mistake. I threatened to spill my guts about this issue on Facebook. His reply was, "ok, you do that". He then tells Betsy I said, "the F word! She then turns around goes on a tyrant and pounces my ass for cursing at her employee. I tried asking her questions like what exactly did I say, but was met with, "F-word", and " let me stop you there" bullshit. Facebook was the "F-word"! You people that recommend others to go there are risking pets lives! They are cheap for a reason...and believe me they are not actually cheap! Not when you are constantly having to take them in twice or more a month! Their system of how the vets work is seriously flawed! Frequently the one you had seen won't be there and here you go with a different vet! ONLY ONE vet there actually out there hands on her! I'm not saying they don't try, but you can only work with what's available. They farm many clients out because that place is not equipped. There isn't one vet there that didn't have to ask another at a different time a question about a unknown issue! One couldn't even tell me what lower fat foods are available to pets! "Uh, I think Royal Canine has one" that's who you are trusting for the health of your fur babies people! I had 5 in that place and it happened ALL OF THE TIME! Today I find out my Zoey has a SPINAL INJURY!! I've voiced all along that we are "down" at many of the same times. I feel like I should've put two and two together but hey, I'm not the vet! Really want/wanted to find affordable vet services close to home. Waited patiently for them to finish construction and open their doors... unfortunately, this was ultimately a no-go for us. There is an old adage, we all know, "You get what you pay for," and we had hoped that this would be an economical option, due to more sparse digs, but not cut-rate as to cost us as much in the service department. I'm very pleased and satisfied with the service they provided my dogs. I like that you can "walk in" on weekends or make an appointment for the week. They are busy, but I'm newer to the area and needed to find a great place for my two mini schnauzers. When I called they were booked my the person on the phone was very nice, asked me about the condition of my pups, had me check a few things to make sure he wasn't in distress, he wasn't. She then gave me the first apt available or let me know about their walk in option on the weekends, let me know there could/would be a wait and to get there early. She was very patient and kind and I wish I could remember her name. We went Saturday, today, there were a few people already there, we only waited about 45 mins and they were able to see us. They checked my pup out fully and let me know he was okay and what was causing him to be a noisy breather. They also were able to give both dogs a vaccine that was due! Very very reasonably priced for great vet care. It can get really expensive, especially moving from Denver, Co. They also gave me the name of three ER vets if My pup had gotten worse bf the weekend. I 100% recommend them for check ups, possible sick visits and meds! So glad someone recommended them to me. read more

I had a horrible experience here. As I was there with my mom who had to take her best friend of 12 Years to be put to sleep, not knowing that's what she was going in for but all in all that's what had to be done today. In the process of having this done I have my daughter go out to my car and get my drink bc I was thirsty and thought my mom may also want to drink since she's been here for awhile sitting in the floor with her bf crying. The owner of the Affordable Veterinary Clinic, Betsy  opens the door and tells us that no drinks are allowed, as she sees my mom in the floor with her dog in the midst of crying and me trying to comfort her. So I understand drinks may not be allowed but there was not an ounce of compassion!! No I did not see a sign that says no drinks allowed nor was I looking for a sign. I was going in to be with my mom while she puts down her best friend so after everything was done I asked to speak with Miss Betsy all in all she was not able to be found. Her front desk staff asked if she could help with anything, so I did ask her front desk to relay a message. In a professional manner I told her that it was very uncalled for and very rude to come into a patient's room that is putting their animal to sleep and tell them of all things no drinks allowed.. Really!! THAT is your concern at the moment. I may have understood to an extent if I was there for a routine exam shots things of that nature, but in the midst of putting your animal to sleep to only care about whether my client has a drink in the room with them at that very specific moment I was honestly appalled. I have worked in the veterinary field and the practice I worked for would never go into a patient's room at such time as having to say goodbye to their beloved friend and tell them I need you to remove your drink from the room seriously!! If anything they would have offered you a drink!! She was very rude and inconsiderate. We will not be back. read more

I hate to be the person to leave a terrible review, but I have never had an experience as terrible as this at any business... I had an older cat whose health was getting worse and I decided to try this place. Yay! Super cheap exam price and I was able to get in with no problems. So I get there with my kitty and they check her out and tell me everything that's wrong. It's clear now that my cat was suffering more than I ever could've known. They proceed to hand me a paper with a 250$ total for these experimental medicines that *here is the kicker y'all* they told me straight up, even if these medicines worked they wouldn't fully help. So I did what any nervous teenager would do and called my mom to ask what I should do. At this point I'm a wreck because I know the only logical option is to have her put to sleep, in the middle of my phone call with my mother this man is interrupting me trying to fact check me and backpedal and has the worst attitude. And here's why, the doctor "didn't feel comfortable " doing euthanasia because they wanted me to spend the 250$ for a 3 day dose of this medicine and then COME BACK and spend another 34$ to walk in the door and then spend the money to have her put to sleep. They did not care a single bit about my baby or her health, they wanted to make an extra 100$. On top of knowing I had to put my best friend to sleep, they still decided that being rude and trying their hardest to make more money was more important. Go to Countryside in MJ. They were so friendly and honest with me. They quickly reassured me that I had made the right decision and I was ultimately doing what was best for my kitty. I will NEVER go back to this place. I've been taking my pets here for a couple of years now. I really liked them at first, but had a sort of falling out with them a few weeks ago. Dr. Pennington prescribed gabapentin, a controlled drug, for my cat for an upcoming holiday car trip because he gets super anxious. She gave me a physical script, but I wanted it filled through 1800PetMeds. I went back and forth for two days on the phone between AVC and 1800PetMeds to get this done. AVC blamed 1800PetMeds, stating they have more problems with 1800PetMeds than any other pharmacy. 1800PetMeds blamed AVC. Well, I trusted AVC, gave 1800PetMeds a piece of my mind and canceled the order. I told AVC I would take the physical prescription to Walmart. When I took the physical prescription to Walmart pharmacy, they had to call AVC on it because Dr. Pennington prescribed a 100 mg tablet, which doesn't exist, and Walmart needed to change it to a capsule to fill the order. Well, AVC told Walmart that 1800PetMeds had filled the prescription and that Walmart needed to throw the prescription away, like I was trying to double-fill a controlled drug. Um...no... I called AVC, very angry that they told Walmart to throw my prescription away. I am in healthcare AND I get some of my meds filled there. I KNOW what Walmart pharmacy thought about my trying to double-fill a controlled substance, which wasn't the case at all. I spoke with Betsy at AVC, who called 1800PetMeds and confirmed that I had canceled the gabapentin order with them. Betsy denied up and down that she told Walmart to throw away my prescription, stating that they had more problems with Walmart than with any other pharmacy. Ironic, huh? Well, even more ironic was what I read in the notes when I had AVC forward my cat's medical records. WOW! They must think I am an enraged, drug addicted criminal. It was noted in the medical record that they did indeed tell Walmart to throw away my prescription, which makes me look like an enraged, drug addicted criminal as well. The notes also indicated that I said that my cat "can't take po meds." (po = oral meds) This was so not what I said. What I said was I can't give my cat liquids because he spits them all over the place very violently which was why I didn't want their oral solution. I can pill him just fine. Apparently the script wasn't authorized to 1800PetMeds for the reason below: 11-14-19 4:15p: DO NOT DO ANYTHING WITH CHART FOR GABAPENTIN UNTIL TALKING TO DR.PENNINGTON MJR: 11-14-19 at 4:15p: Why didn't they just tell me?? I talked to them multiple times and they kept blaming 1800PetMeds! I would've gladly brought in the written prescription if they were concerned about this!! It was a month before I tried to fill the script at Walmart. The reason was because I took my cat to the vet in November and asked for meds for a road trip that I'd be taking over the holidays, so I didn't need the med until late Dec. Anyway, this was their note. NVH: 12-15-19 at 2:44p: Walmart pharmacy called asking about a script for gabapentin that was writen 11/9. We told the pharmacist that o had already gotten her gabapentin from 1800petmeds and would not need to get if filled anymore and was notified to discard the script. This was handled very poorly and of course I never received an apology. In fact, I was chastised severely by Betsy for calling angry. Yes, Betsy, I was irate. You would be too if your integrity was unnecessarily questioned. Before this encounter, I'd been nothing but nice to them. I'd even given them a five star review. If they are going to act this way, they should not be allowed to prescribe controlled substances. I've considered contacting the TN state board. Maybe if they spent more time documenting patient charts correctly than they spent gathered around the TV watching the "Bama" games, they'd be more effective at caring for patients and their owners. I spoke to the owner on 11/28 regarding my pet and a follow up visit ,keep in my mind my dog has been going here for a couple years the ONLY vet he knows i have NEVER had any issues with anyone there employees were always friendly and helpful however on this day i spoke to the owner a very rude woman to be exact she repeatedly told me how 'she was the owner" , and how this "relationship was not working out and how she would email me his chart" i mean she was rude very unprofessional she told me not to yell at her i was NOT yelling AT HER ... I was in NO situation to yell at her.. i wasn't angry there was no reason for me to yell at her ..in the middle of me trying to tell her that i was in a loud environment that's why i may be loud t she did not care.. i have read several reviews and mostly mentioned " Betsy" which is whom i had the encounter with i am in no way satisfied with her behavior on that day actually i am offended HIGHLY OFFENDED in the way i was treated , it still bothers me the fact that i am now looking for a new vet , but i am glad i don't have to worry about the lack of customer service , because i refuse to be treated the way the owner treated me over the phone , again i have read several reviews and i agree she is rude, and unprofessional KINDNESS goes a long way and on that day she threw her kindness and professionalism out the door , and there is NO WAY her behavior was professional when i mentioned that i would be reporting her behavior she said " good luck with that " the medical records that she sent WON'T even upload! read more
