Rude Animal Clinic Root failed to properly handle my cat's blood sample. Their own medical record says it was "left out." Because of their failure, my cat had to come back for another stressful trip, restraint, and blood draw that should never have been necessary. There was no apology, explanation, acknowledgment of what they put my cat through, or effort to make it right. Dr. Emily later called about the replacement bloodwork and again offered no acknowledgment or apology. I took the issue to the owner. It took nearly two weeks and repeated follow ups on my part to get a final response from Dr. Ayers. He ultimately acknowledged both the botched blood sample and the lack of apology and empathy. I asked for one thing: refund what I paid Root. I did not ask them to pay for the second vet, reimburse my additional expenses, or compensate me for all the time their failure cost me. They acknowledged the failure. They acknowledged how poorly they handled it. They refused to make any amends. I initially thought this was an unfortunate failure handled poorly by individual employees. After taking it all the way to Ayers, the owner, I came away believing the accountability problem at Root is modeled from the top down. I trusted Root with my cat's health. They failed. For anyone who wants the medical details: The replacement bloodwork led Root to suspect a blood parasite and prescribe medication. I had lost confidence in their care, so my cat never received Root's proposed treatment and I sought a second opinion. The second veterinarian told me stress from the repeat blood draw could have contributed to the abnormal results. Repeat testing showed the concerning abnormalities had resolved without Root's treatment, and the blood smear showed no RBC parasites seen. The second veterinarian instead focused treatment on my cat's gastrointestinal problems. Those findings gave me serious reason to question the medical conclusions that followed a blood draw my cat only had to undergo because Root failed to properly handle the first sample. read more

Recently squeezed us in for an appointment when Kisses wasn't feeling well. We did have a short wait, but SUPER gracious they could fit us in!! Appointment people were in and out. And I loved how they knew the dog and owners names. Super friendly staff which to me is a huge deal! Especially on the phone. They were very attentive and did a great job listening and asking questions. Let me ask a serious amount of questions and didn't act like I was a moron or a crazy dog lady! We moved here 1.5 yrs ago and found this clinic. They have always been great. My favorite vet is Dr Mason. His detail and care is there.

I moved to the area back in September and began looking for vets. When I visited this one I felt comfortable with the staff and doctor immediately. Everyone working here is very kind to the animal, they have great communication and you can tell they love the animals. The doctor is very sweet and gentle to the animals. I didn't know how my dogs would do with a male vet as they sometimes do not respond well to men, however because of the kind demeanor of the doctor the dogs were great. We will stick with this clinic as I only have had positive experience with them. I also feel the prices are reasonable. read more

First off we took our pets here for decades until Dr root sold the business. During covid i took my cat here for her yearly allergy meds, only now they said I had to bring her in. I couldnt go in and they took her in without my consent they said she was dehydrated which she was not just her normal yearly sneezes. They put so much water in her that she couldnt even walk. I highly recommend any and all of them. I have no doubt if I had taken my 5 year old cat to them, in February 2021, he would still be alive. Dr. Ayres told me that a cat should be given antibiotic treatment before and after a dental, which wasn't done at the Animal Clinic in Hendersonville, resulting in a horrible infection, high fever that claimed his life. I can't say enough nice things about this clinic. I have been taking my 2 rescue dogs here since 2020 and they always go above and beyond to keep my dogs (who can be reactive and aggressive towards other animals) as comfortable as possible. They keep great notes on both dogs and have been so consistent for them over the past 4 years. I've never had a bad experience with any staff member - they are all kind, caring, and professional and they seem to have an awesome team dynamic. We have mostly seen Dr. Durlin, who is awesome, but I have had only positive experiences with the other vets as well. They have even fit me in same day for acute problems so I didn't have to deal with driving to and paying extraordinary emergency vet fees (we had to wait, but it was understandable and I was so thankful to be seen same day)! I recently moved into town from Ca, so I didn't have a vet yet when one of my pups developed a fairly big lump on the back of her head/neck. After researching for a good local Vet, Root was one of the only handful with any rating, and the best rated one so I figured I'd give it a shot. They were willing to take me in at the last minute close to their closing time with zero notice and they even stayed late for me a little bit. All of the staff including Dr. Root were amazing and friendly to their new patient, myself, and were even accommodating my girl's brother whom insisted on tagging along with his sister and getting in the way lol. Turns out out to have been a minor water cyst and they quickly shaved and drained the cyst flat within a matter of seconds and were friendly chatting the entire time. The cost of the entire procedure was about $50 which is actually quite cheap these days, especially coming from CA. so their pricing platform is definitely competitive and affordable. Would definitely recommend Dr. Root and this practice and they have become my new permanent vet. I've spent years with multiple vets and these people were by far the easiest going where you could still get very professional behavior and procedures without the eyeing of trying to drain your wallet. read more

I took one of my Standard Poodles for an ear infection and they were amazing... I will be bringing the other in shortly for his yearly shots... they are caring, nice and very affordable. There are a bunch of vets near this clinic but the caring and kindness they showed for my pet was intense. They genuinely care about animals and their owners as they do NOT overcharge and they are well versed in breeds and care methods for pets. I am soooooo over the moon that I found this vet and will be bringing all my furry people there for excellent care. Dr. Ayers and Dr. Mason are so knowledgeable, but have that same no-nonsense practicality of Dr. Root. Just as with Doc Root, we never doubt they have our (multiple) dogs' best interests at heart, without padding on services just because they could/can. Even if I move out away from Goodlettsville, Dr. Ayers and Dr. Mason will still be our docs. I can't recommend them highly enough. Best vets we have ever been to. Dr. John Ayers Dr. James Root both go above and beyond what you would expect from vets. They take as much time as you need, stay updated on new treatments, listen to everything you have to say and answer all questions. We have four dogs treated by them in the last 5 years including major sugeries, allergies, SARDS, cysts, eye/ear infections and chronic back pain. They took the time to research new therapies ahead of an appointment we made and had obviously spent hours on it by the time we arrived. Thanks to their caring deeply about what they do, today one of our dogs has relief from allergies they have suffered from for years. I have five dogs, one that had been diagnosed with food allergies her entire life, and I had spent thousands on testing, different foods, etc. I tried Dr. Root when I moved to the area a couple of years ago and he quickly and correctly diagnosed her as having asthma! She has made a complete turnaround and the bill was a fraction of what I had paid at other locations. I have used Root Animal Clinic for close to 30 years or ever since I was newly married & had my own animals...outside of the "family pets" we had growing up at both my parent's homes. Dr. Root, Angie & staff, even Margaret the cat the part time office assistant & full time paper weight w/her sky blue crossed eyes, seemed to always be laying on the papers needed for checking out. Everyone at that clinic went out of their way to make me and thru the years, our many beloved pets feel comfortable & comforted. Cause ultimately we all know the trip to the vet wether urgent or scheduled is so totally about the pet "owner" than it is the animal. Of course we all think we have the best & most loved pets & can't wait to share every cute story.....& poor Dr Root would listen! My first pet as an adult & after getting married was a young little kitten "Boots" found wandering in our neighborhood. A little girl brought him to me & I said I want him! Just a little side note: she came back the next day to tell me that the people lived 5 houses away & were just letting him go outside a few minutes when she took him thinking he a little lost homeless kitten. I told her to go tell them I didn't want to give him back, which she did & their reply was she can have him. Great, cause I wasn't planning on giving him back anyway! That sweet kitten gave our family & neighbors ( not the first owners) so many fun, happy memories & 20 years of love added to our lives that are priceless! So now I'm an official cat mama! I hung his rabies tag on the Christmas tree that year I was so proud of it. So one afternoon my sweet little kitten wasn't looking very well, so I made an appointment & off we go to our first, of many many visits! I was nervous cause I didn't have a lot of experience going to the vet. Growing up, we rarely if ever took our dogs to the vet....don't know why....We were teetering on the fence between being country folk & not as country as some folks & maybe because my dad did it himself. I remember him buying rabies shots at the Co-Op & giving them to his birddogs. So maybe he treated them himself. But despite my lack of experience at the vet & the nervousness of Boots (& me too) I could not have been made to feel more comfortable and amount friends. Dr. Root informed me after examining my sweet little kitten, that he had a urinary infection & possible blockage & would need to be monitored overnight. OVERNIGHT?? Noooooo! I can't leave him, I just can't leave him! But after explaining the fact he needed to monitor his urine in the liter, it was important for him to stay. I cried like a baby all the way to the car & home! Later that night, it was after 11:00pm, my phone rang & it was Dr Root calling to say, he couldnt sleep for thinking about now upset I was over leaving Boots, so he got out of bed & drove back to the clinic just to check on him. He said he has wet spots in his liter so that's good & you can pick him up in the morning. What vet would get out of bed to go check if a kitten had peed in his liter box....Dr Root that's who! After that he was a rock star to me, our family & all of Our beloved animals. Dr Root has now retired but I recently ran into him and we had some good laughs at some of my trips to his hm office and some of the funny incidents that happened in the clinic over the years. Hoping our dog had just pulled a muscle in her leg but wanted the best orthopedic veterinary to check her out, we researched Vets, read reviews and interrogated friends and acquaintances. Even the longtime PetSmart staffer knew of Dr. Ayers and mentioned his reputation in orthopedics preceded him. We were extremely pleased with the prompt next day new patient appointment. Dr. Ayers thoroughly examined and diagnosed our baby, gave us several options of treatment explained pros and cons with all of them and suggested that we could get a second opinion if we wanted to, it would not "hurt his feelings". We proceeded with TPOL surgery with Dr. Ayers. Who knew the best veterinary orthopedic surgeon in the state was located right in our backyard? Dr. Ayers, Dr. Root and all of their fabulous staff were warm, friendly knowledgeable,showed genuine care and concern for us and our furbaby. They did their share of "hand holding" post-surgery, answered our questions and were always happy to help. My husband & I are on a 2 year RV trip & are rarely in one city more than a few days. Our pup, Lola, was under the weather & we needed her to be seen by a vet. We found the Root Animal clinic on Yelp & decided to call for an appointment. A delightful woman answered the phone & got us in to see the doc the same day. Upon entering the clinic, she greeted us & made us feel very welcome. This clinic is as clean as can be & everybody in which we came in contact was very nice. But, better still, they were extremely kind to Lola & treated her like the princess that she is. We saw Dr. Mason, & he took the time to answer all of our questions with a lot of patience. He even called the next day to check on Lola & to see if we needed anything else from him. We are very grateful to everyone that saw Lola & made her feel like her old self again.
