Lately I've been jumping through hoops trying to get a refill for my dog. I went in person and was told that the Vet reviews all refill requests by the end of the day. I was told I would get notified by the end of the day, but never was. I called and left a message around 5pm and called and left a message again the next morning. Recently I come to find out this location doesn't have a permanent Vet. For nearly 2 yrs this location has been using vets who just sign up for the day. Super frustrating. As humans we have set Drs who know us and our medical conditions. I believe our fur babies deserve the best health care as well, they should have permanent vets not just new vets for the day. As the owner of a very sick dog, due to lack of permanent vets and having to jump thru hoops it leaves me no choice but to find a better pet hospital. I can not say enough nice things about the staff and their kindness. When our dog, Harley, needed to be taken care of, they were always available, kind and considerate. DO NOT GO HERE. Most expensive plan on the planet for benefits that are just not worth it. I've had this as my primary vet for a long time now, and my dog has been on a prescription for over 2 years for her anxiety. Never had any issues until I got a call saying she has the wrong last name in the system which the company and pharmacy are NOW just catching this mistake- just for them to tell me my dog doesn't exist in the system. Not only that, but my vet apparently changed twice which I didn't even know about. Promised to get me an emergency appointment so a new vet could "re familiarize" with the vet so they can make a new prescription. We became Banfield Wellness Plan holders nearly 5 years ago with our first pup. Now 2 additional dogs later, all 3 of our fur babies are covered! It couldn't have been a better decision to make for their healthcare, seeing as with one low monthly fee all vaccines; heart-worm, flea and tick prevention, and their spay/neuter is covered!!! Today was our first time visiting the Ocean location, as we followed Dr. Quinlan here from Manalapan. We've recently moved to the Forked River area, and were coming from 40 mins away to see her. I was grateful they were still willing to see us, as I was nearly 30 mins late, having gotten caught in traffic. Staff was helpful, and welcoming. Please !! Please!! Listen to me.. DO NOT BRING YOUR PET TO Banfield Pet hospital.. They sell you a wellness plan that is worthless. They basically KILLED MY PET. I was with Banfield Pet Hospital for over 12 years since my pet was a pup. After purchasing the most expensive wellness plan (recommended by the Banfield staff ) I was told my benefits were exhausted. Less then a year into the plan. At the time I brought my pet into the Rockaway NJ store I was told she would be taken care of she was in a very Lethargic state. She needed help immediately. The staff assured me they would help. THAT WAS A BIG LIE!! All they care about is getting paid. After my pet was examined by the vet I was told she need more extensive treatment. I said do what ever you have to to make her better. Then I was told I had exhausted all my benefits and the cost would be at least $750.00. After explaining to the vet I was covered she informed me that I had exhausted all my benefits and that I would have to pay the $750.00 in full prior to anything being done for our family pet. I explained that I had been out of work for over a year and if they were willing to put me on a payment plan I could do that. Then I was told by the Vet we don't do payment plans and I would have to pay in full. Needless to say I had to pick my pet up from Banfield and take her to a real Vet Dr Hodes in Minehill NJ. ( whom we would highly recommend) also I never met this vet, however they were willing to put me on a payment plan and take care of our family pet. The money was there last concern. They cared more about my Coco. The sad news is she was in kidney failure and there was nothing they could do for us. Our Coco passed away 4 days later. This BROKE OUR HEARTS!! Cost for a real Vet $235.00 . Now I get a bill from Banfield Hospital that we still owe the remaining balance of $250.00. I tried to explain to Banfield that my pet passed away and what took place in Rockaway store. THEY COULD CARELESS !! ALL BANFIELD CARES ABOUT IS THE MONEY!! I visited Banfield on July 26, 2018 with my two dogs to get them up to date on vaccines (we just moved them back to the country.) I decided to give them a try over the local vet since they had a free pet visit coupon circulating. I was extremely unhappy with their services, I had heard that these types of vet clinics are really just after your money and I wanted to believe otherwise but from my experience, that was 100% the case. Bear with me here, I've got a few complaints I feel are worth hearing out. We gave our dogs the Lyme's disease vaccines & Distemper-Parvo Leptospirosis (DHLPP) vaccines. Both vaccines require a booster and the vet insisted we give them only one vaccine at a time, which would cause us to come to the office 4 times. I am all for the comfort of my dogs but I have been given more than one vaccine at a time and I am just fine. That really seemed like a tactic to get our money (we just did the boosters today at the local vet and they did not mention anything about not giving them more than one vaccine a day.) The next issue was with the Lyme's disease vaccine. We went to the local vet today to get it boosted, but it turns out they carry a new vaccine called Lyme's CR vaccine. When they called Banfield to see if this is the same vaccine my dogs were given, it turns out they switched to the CR vaccine just a week or so after our visit. So we had to pay for a new Lyme's vaccine and also pay to go back to get it boosted (so $80 we wasted at Banfield.) I am extremely upset because I gave my dogs an unnecessary vaccine, which one of them had a horrible reaction to (her eyes swelled up and she had a fever.) OK - final issue. The DHLPP vaccine. Most vets charge 1 fee for a combined vaccine, but not Banfield. It came out in one vile, one shot. Yet, we were charged for Distemper Parvo ($31.99) and then Leptospirosis($19.99) instead of the normal DHLPP vaccine. We did the booster today at the other vet and it was just one vaccine for $40. They did refund the money for the Lyme's vaccine after I called to complain but I want customers to be aware of the scams here. read more

I have brought my dogs here since they were puppies & received the most unprofessional care today. From the office staff to there Dr. that I personally request. They treated us as if we weren't dedicated clients. They messed up big time on their end and refused my dogs visit. If they were caring vets they would have fixed the issue and seen my dog, but instead sent him away. This shows that this Banfield is all about the money not the wellness of all animals. He was there for a regular office visit and to be refused because of mistake on their end is extremely unprofessional. Especially when the same Issue occurred a few months ago and it was supposedly resolved. I am highly disappointed, disgusted and dissatisfied!!!! read more

I take both of our French Bulldogs (Lucy 16 months & Redondo 4 months) to Banfield for about 10 months now. They have seen a couple of different Veterinarians there and LOVE them all! The staff is very friendly and helpful. Their wellness plans are affordable and convenient. We had our female spayed here, overall a great experience. Been a client for over a year now, and found that the vets and agents who work here and in their phone service team are deceptive, careless, and disrespectful. Within that time, they've lost an appointment for me and refused to honor it day of, declined me for two urgent care visits even though the website says they offer urgent care on a case by case, and intentionally misrepresented what services were offered and what was covered by the wellness plan. I had to dig up the terms and conditions and care schedule from my email last year and spend over an hour on the phone, and I haven't even gotten to their Complaints team. Ridiculous. read more

I have 2 dogs with them (unfortunately). I registered when they were puppies. For the male, the plan included neutralized. During 2 visits I asked them to neutralized the dog but they told me " he was neutralized already" but I still was able to see "TWO BIG" reason he was not. The third appointment one of the vets told me I was right and need to be neutralized but he was older and out of the plan that include the surgery. I had to pay extra for neutralized. How can a vet cannot see if a male was or not neutralized? they never make a good inspection on him. The female, was diagnosed with Lyme disease but Vet told us don't worry and we will take care when she get more symptoms. After few month she was very sick, not walking and not eating and we called banfield to take care of her, but there as not appointment for emergency. I told them I wait following their recommendations but they gave me hour for 2 more weeks, but my dog needed assistance right away. I went to an urgent care for pets and vet told me why she was never treated when was diagnosed? Instead to have 2 weeks antibiotics we had to give her 6 weeks of antibiotics because disease was not treated when it was diagnosed. Let's just say that Mars (the parent company) would be better off sticking to making M&Ms and not pet care. Nice people, but clearly the goal is to sell customers on their Wellness Program (Pet Insurance) as less emphasis is placed on your pet's current health or the reason for your visit, than getting you to sign on the dotted line. I suspect that employees receive an incentive for every plan they sell, from the first person you meet at the receiving desk , the Vet, the Vet Tech, everyone you come in contact with. "Buy the program...Buy the program" its' like a damn cult. Since Banfield is stuffed in the back of Petco like it was a second thought, (because it was), if you have a large dog as I do, it is difficult to get them into the back of the store from the front and only entrance. Especially if they have difficulty walking. I recently had to walk my English Bull Dog through the store with a cyst on her paw, which decided to burst as we were on our way out. Lots of dirty looks from store employees, and other customers. Of course if the Vet had lanced the cyst, or for that matter did anything other than prescribe a medication which I later found out is no longer made, and hasn't been made for several years, perhaps my dog could have been spared the experience of bleeding all over the floor. Side note: The folks at Banfield suggested I put her in a shopping cart next time. She weighs nearly 80 lbs. (she is big boned) Other medications, which are commonly used, have to be ordered. Banfield has no problem charging you nearly $100 for sixty pills, but giving you ten instead, with an I.O.U. Then of course they forget to call you when the next shipment comes in. They still owe me for medication I paid for three weeks ago. For small issues, checkups and such, I think they are fine. But, learn to say no when it comes to the overpriced "Optimum Wellness Program or be prepared to drink the koolaid. read more

After relocating, finding a new vet was extremely stressful. I have brought both of my dogs to Banfield and have always had a great experience. My puppy loves coming to the vet and is always happy to see the staff. The Vets are very attentive and always willing to answer any questions. I also appreciated how the dr called after my pets yearly check up to give me a thorough update on his progress. I really feel like they care about my pups and there care is always top notch. I have also found there prices are very reasonable. I would highly recommend!! read more

They have an extremely flexible schedule that really makes it easy for me and my wife to take my dog there. We love all the doctors that they have and we have a pet plan with them. It is also very convenient because they're located in Petsmart where I buy a lot of the stuff for my dog and also get her groomed. I highly suggest paying the money to see a real veterinarian and seeking outside pet insurance if you truly care about your pet. My 10 year experience with this company has finally come to an end where I am currently making a case with corporate to not only cancel my membership but to return my money from the past year. I have dealt with technicians not reading charts and making mistakes with my dogs- where one time I heard my dog from the exam room and charged into the back room to see how he was being mishandled and held down to receive a test for a comprehensive (tech did not see chart with severely arthritic left hip), to a doctor (still there) making her own choice in sedating my cat without permission for a blood test because she was clearly not good with cats- I came to pick up my cat looking totally out of it and I should have been asked, to dropping off my cats for a teeth cleaning with the current doctor I liked and have been seeing for a year and after not seeing her name on the board and long time of questioning, and pressuring- they did not call and DID NOT NOTIFY me to tell me that my doctor would not being doing surgeries since she recently lost a pet on the table during a teeth cleaning and they were giving my cats to another doctor I did not know- that doctor turned out to be the same one who sedated my cat without permission and I specifically asked to be put in my chart to not have her handle my cats any longer. So once again- we have a team that does not read charts. They make mistakes in appointments- one time I took off work and when I arrived they told me they did not have me in the system and I showed them their confirmation texts to my phone- and the best is they ARGUE with you making this your fault. Today- after a year of no services (and 3 years of no teeth cleaning even though I pay for the full plan for both pets) I walk in for my comprehensive appointment at 8:15am with a new doctor there who seems to be good with cats and liked. I spoke on the phone explaining my past situations saying I want to stay there while the comprehensive is being done- the tell me to come in at 8:15am- it will be one of the first appointments- the doctor will take them right in the back- do his thing and bring them out when done. I arrive and they tell me the doctor does not come in until 9am- and tried to explain it was my fault- that is was drop off at 8:15am- and I went right back at them explaining how due to my past I specifically wait and was told to be in early so I could wait. One was nasty and directed me to a team leader, Sara, who basically just looks at you and says "What you you like me to do?". Ummmm... I would like people to read charts and make notes in charts when requested when it comes to the people paying your salaries, make correct appointments and know the times of your doctors on the phone, read charts on your pet patients to know how to hold them and handle them, call the family and owners for permission if your pet requires sedation for a simple blood test, call the owners if you scheduled a teeth cleaning with a doctor you trust if that doctor is not available and then not put you through an hour of lies before the truth is finally revealed and to please not be nasty and argue with your clients when it is clear you have made the mistake- and you have a history of making mistakes. On top of it, you never see the same people there.- few are the same but having a constant shift of staff tells you something about the workplace. I am tired of large corporations taking advantage of people and not living up to their end of the deal when it comes to what we pay for. Corporate needs to send in a team to sit this Ocean team down to make sure they are trained in professionalism and in their handling of day to day appointments as well as making sure their pet clients are well taken care of. Being nice, talking in little voices and being cute with the animals in front of you does not cut it- I pay for more than that. read more

DO NOT COME HERE! I've brought my dog here for a year. In the beginning there were no clear problems, then when I needed to bring my dog in for a visit, I had to wait about 1.5-2 months for the next available appointment. RIDICULOUS IF YOU PAY PER MONTH (for the services and unlimited office visits). Half way thru my membership the doctors started to make me uncomfortable to leave my dog. My dog is NOT aggressive at all and they labeled my dog as a "risk to bite". My last visit is what summed everything up, I brought my dog in after they AUTOMATICALLY renewed my membership without my approval. I brought my dog in to get 2 shots, Then the doctor tries telling me they need to take his blood and i deny it. Then after I denied that, she wouldn't allow me to enter the room with my dog and brought him by herself to the back. After that, the doctor told me she would prescribe me with pain medication for 5 days. Then fills a prescription for double that, coming out to double the price. Dr. Dev is a disgrace and isn't the first time she has tried to rob me during checkout. Very sketchy and uncomfortable please to leave/ bring your pet. If you care about the well being of your furry friend.. bring him to a trusted location vet. 0 Trust behind those doors where you can't see what they do. read more

I am so disappointed with this vet. I am a new dog owner and decided to try this doctor. I made my appt for 2:30pm when I arrived there was a woman being very rude to the staff demanding she have her dog seen immediately.. The person at the desk put this woman with no appt before me. So finally they put us in a room after an 1 hour and 15 min. My dog acts up a little and they ask me to take him out and calm him down.. cool no problem. I took the cone with me so I could try to put it on him in a less stressful environment. I get it on come back in about 5 min. As I come back in they are giving my room to someone else. So we sit and wait another 15 min. Watch the dog that went in our room go out to calm down come back go right back in the room, still waiting! At this point I had now been there 2 hours and watched dog come and leave in that time.. I took the cone right off placed on the counter and walked out. read more
