My stylist was nice enough, friendly, and decently fast but maybe too fast. She basically forgot about the entire left side of my head. My boyfriend is a barber but never does women's cuts and he had to fix my entire cut. The "sideburn" hair in front of my left ear was a half inch longer than my right. The entire left side was about 3/4 inches longer than the right, not blended, and forgotten about. The neck line was a hack job. Like to the point where he was questioning if my stylist was drunk. For $85, then $110 with tip (the website says $45+ and I guess they really mean ++++, but I always tip) having my boyfriend fix my haircut didn't feel great. Though now he's thinking he should just get into cutting women's hair if that's what passes for a $110 cut. Won't be back. read more

I have had a few good experiences here, but there is no price transparency. Today I payed $85 for a haircut when the website says $45+ (this is apparently based on how long the stylist has been there, which I did not know and it does not say). From this salon (and every other salon I have used), it has always been $55. I think this was my 3rd/4th time in to this salon, and I haven't been unsatisfied with any of the stylists. It's just, the other stylists at this salon that cost $55 did the same quality haircut. I'm NOT blaming the stylist (she was great, as they all have been); I'm blaming the salon for not being upfront about the cost difference. $85+tip is ridiculous for a haircut. If this had been communicated in any way beforehand, it wouldn't have been a problem. I would have asked for a different stylist well before the appointment. It really really needs to be communicated when something is almost double the price that the website says. I really didn't want to make a big deal about it while checking out but... I left feeling completely ripped off, and won't go back to this salon. read more

I was called about comin' in earlier than my appointment, which I thought might work in my favor, actually, but I should have guessed that someone was just trying to finish out their shift and bounce. At least that's what it felt like. I barely even got a sip of the wine they offered me; I left it two-thirds unfinished. And the conversation wasn't even chit-chat. It was painfully obligatory. There might as well have been a checklist of banal questions hanging on the mirror in front me. I don't mind just sittin' in silence, especially when I have wine to drink, but going through the motions just made the whole experience trite. This is a unisex salon, but they don't use clippers. There's a cruel irony here because I figured if I didn't like what she did-- and I don't-- then I'd just have it shaved. I'd rather pay another $45 somewhere else than go back and suffer through the experience a second time. I'm feelin' desperately conflicted here, too, because I'm not in the habit of calling out individuals and puttin' them on blast-- I mean, maybe she was just havin' a day. But after this experience, I was then havin' a day. It's more than just a haircut when you go to the salon; it's an experience-- we're talking about people's images and identities. You wanna discuss and explore it, and get an expert's view, then consider it and move forward. You want to enjoy yourself. And people are known to develop fierce loyalties to stylists. I got a really very good haircut here once by a hip chick who knew I just wasn't cool enough to be in there. Some of the stylists scared me a little bit (something about an extremely tight, high, bleached platinum blond ponytail seems very menacing to me), but most seemed very nice. Same owners as the original Bang near Wash Park, this is their only other location. I just can't justify spending $60 on my hair when a baseball cap costs $10. read more

I went in for the first time today to see Marisa because a friend of mine had recommended this salon. I booked online the day before and was able to get an appointment later in the day. I am SO pleased with my haircut! (I don't color my hair, so this review is just for a cut and an overall review of the salon). I was on time. When I walked in I was greeted immediately and asked if I wanted anything to drink - I took a white wine that hit the spot AND slightly calmed the nerves I was having because I knew I was going to take the plunge and chop off 8+ inches of long hair I'd had for years. I explained everything to Marisa - she listened intently to my [silly] anxieties about having shorter hair and what I wanted. She was a good conversationalist overall as well and as sweet as can be. All I can say is she did EXACTLY what I asked. My hair type is straight/fine/soft and she cut it in mixed layers around slightly-higher-than-shoulder length and cut some swoopy bangs that I am loving. She also styled it perfectly and showed me how to do it in the future (I'd never had anyone take a hairstyle to that personal of a level). I was so happy with everything that I even bought some of the products she used (I loved the smell, it was sulfate/terrible-ness free, and would help my fine hair hold the little bit of body I wanted to put into it with a curling iron). Again, I could not be happier with my current haircut and can't wait to go back and visit Marisa! This salon is a win. :) read more

I went to Bang Salon at Park Hill for the first time yesterday after hearing very good things about it from a co-worker. I have had some terrible experiences with hair salons in the past, so I'm always nervous about trying a new place. But I desperately needed my hair done so I took the plunge. I used their website to make an appointment with Leah. I was originally scheduled to come in at 12 but I needed to get in earlier that morning, so I called them and they were happy to move me up a couple of hours. The salon was beautiful and clean, and as I walked in I was greeted by the receptionist. My stylist Leah came up promptly, introduced herself, and led me back to her station. We talked about the style I wanted, whether it would work with my face and hair texture, etc. It honestly I felt like she could read my mind. It literally took her less than 30 minutes to cut my hair, and it's probably THE best cut I have ever had. I was extremely nervous about getting bangs, but she made me feel so comfortable and confident about the whole thing. The bangs, the layers, everything turned out exactly as I wanted. The cut itself was done well, but you have to really listen to your customer when it comes to how much to actually cut off. Went here today for a consult followed by a color and had the worst attitude from both Kylie and the manager/owner, Sandy! Awful! It was so awful, I posted on my page about my experience today only to find out I have other friends who have gone here and felt ripped off, attitude and dissatisfied service. I'm still flabbergasted by this experience. Clearly, poor customer service is following all the 1 star reviews they keep getting and, from what I hear, they're not all that skilled at their profession for claiming to be an "upscale" salon. Save your $$$ and go elsewhere! It's a hike, but head to Salon Salon and see Jill who cuts my hair. And I learned my lesson to just keep making the trek to see her for my color as well as I do not need the attitude this salon dished out today. It's always super nerve-wracking to find a new stylist! Now that I'm back in the Park Hill 'hood after a 2-year stint in Louisville (KY, not CO!), my Denver stylist from back in the day is no longer cutting hair. After hemming and hawing about what to do, I decided to take a chance on Bang Salon in Park Hill. They have an online appointment scheduler that is super easy to use (even as a first-time client). I got all-over color and cut with Mindy, and she was fantastic! She really listened to how I liked my hair cut, and gave great suggestions for a jazzy color (it's spring afterall, and time to pull my hair out of the dark winter shade). Mindy was also very friendly, with great chair-side manner! The salon is very clean and comfortable, and the staff is nice. Yup, I think I'll be a regular here! read more

So I know this is a hair salon, but I think everyone should know that Renee, a full service esthetician is hiding away in the back! I met Bang owner Sandy, and she suggested I come in and treat myself to a facial. I'm so glad I did! After a disappointing experience at another "spa" in town, I was pleased with the results I got from Renee's facial and microderm. The entire experience was a pleasure. I had an extremely stressful week, and Renee put me right at ease. She knew how to talk enough to make me feel at ease, but not enough to tire me out. The room was comfortable, the linens and little robe were soft, and I wished I could have taken a nap in there after my facial. After I "woke up" from the trance I was in, I had to keep from touching my face. It was so soft - the microderm even took away some small wrinkles in my forehead that just needed some love. Bang Salon is top notch! A friend recommended Sandy and she has been my stylist for 14 years. I've never had a bad hair cut or color. In fact, I grew my hair out from a very short cut and she transitioned it perfectly so I never had a bad hairstyle. Everyone says my color is on point. Sandy is also cost conscious and recommends color touch ups as much as possible so I don't have to pay the higher price for a full color unless it's needed. I have naturally curly, short hair and Tida is the only stylist I've found who can make it look great all the time with ZERO fuss and fixing. I literally put in product, move it around, and my hair looks great. No heat drying (no damage). Tida is also an expert colorist and has taken me through many color and style changes over the years. She has also helped me merge into gray hair, which is not easy since hair texture changes. Tida is an intelligent, sweet person who is easy to talk to. I've had my hair cut at Bang maybe three times now, but this last time experienced some really unacommodating customer service that will not have me coming back. Two weeks ago today I got a pretty drastic haircut (about six inches) by a stylist who ended up cutting it about 1.5 shorter than what I asked for in the first place, but I figured there wasn't much I could do about that once it was cut but wait for it to grow. I've spent the last two weeks trying to figure out how to work with and style this new cut - I have naturally curly hair that I blow out a lot of the time so I had to experiment with the new cut as both curly and straight. So it took me exactly two weeks to to get over the shock of the short cut and to figure out how I thought it really needed to be touched up based on both ways I wear my hair. I called today (exactly two weeks after my cut) to see if I could get the shape touched up just a bit since I was dissatisfied with my haircut. I was first told that they usually only do re-cuts within a week, after which I explained why I find it quite reasonable that it took me two weeks to decide I was dissatisfied and how I wanted to fix it. At which point the woman on the phone asked the stylist and came back to me with the info that Bang can only do re-cuts within two weeks. I was like, "Okay, today is two weeks - do you have any appointments this afternoon available or can I schedule one for later this week?" I was then told that the stylist was booked for the rest of the day (understandable) but was then going out of town and that since my appointment would then be after the two weeks I'd have to pay full price - not understandable. I think it should be expected that if I decided I'm dissatisfied with my cut within a two week period and call to make the re-cut appointment in that exact period, that I should not be financially penalized if my stylist is going out of town, or that I should have the opportunity to just see a different stylist. This feels like a huge rip off to me and seems ridiculous that I'd have to pay full price for a re-cut even though I've called and asked for one in the period allowed. I'll plan on taking my business elsewhere in the future. read more

I've been getting my hair done at Bang for about 4 years now. I started at the location on Alameda since it was close to my work. Tida is a phenomenal hairstylist. Pays close attention to detail, wonderful cuts and great coloring. I trust her with just about anything. Tida is adorable, and always has great hair- if I have a stylist who's hair and style I like, chances are they are a good at what they do (in my opinion, anyway). When she relocated to the Park Hill location, so did I, even though its a bit more of a trek for me. The salon's atmosphere is calming and modern. The owners are very friendly, as well as the staff. I'm always offered something to drink and a magazine when I come in (there is also a local coffee shop next door, where I tend to stop before my appt). I think there is a stylist here for everyone- mothers, sisters, girlfriends, etc. The only reason I don't give 5 stars is because of the price, but I would rather pay more for someone I trust, than pay less for the unknown. We all know a bad hair cut can mean disaster to an entire week!! read more

I love Mindy at Bang. I have been going to her for almost 10 years and have never had a bad haircut or color! We moved to Arkansas for a few years and I would come back to Denver every six months and make sure to squeeze in a haircut and color with Mindy as I didn't trust anyone in Arkansas. We also moved to Kuwait for a couple of years and everytime we got to come home, i would be sure to get a cut and color from Mindy! I was very disappointed with the results It didn't look like I had gotten my hair professionally at all! So I went and saw Candace this afternoon to take me from a light bleach blond to a wee bit of a darker blond via low lights. I must say she did a wonderful job! I made the appointment today, and was in at 5:30 and out at 7:00. After my last hair fiasco at another salon this was a breath of fresh air.....didn't take forever and turned out fabulous. Plus I got to sing along to some great 80's tunes the entire time. Score!!!! I also didn't think it was incredibly expensive...I paid $85 for low lights, and was told a cut will be $55. VERY VERY REASONABLE. I'd much rather pay for a good cut/color then pay a lot and get something that has to be fixed or pay a little and get it all screwed up. I will be going here again. Well I'm SO happy to say that I had a GREAT experience. She is a professional and also so sweet. She took the time to find out exactly what I wanted. I didn't feel rushed at any point and I knew she was genuinely listening to me. The end result was exactly what I had asked for and wanted.
