I was looking for a highly rated salon to give me a keratin treatment. I called Deseo Salon on Thursday afternoon and let them know I was on a tight schedule as I was flying out of Denver on Saturday afternoon. They were able to accommodate my schedule, got me in for a consultation on Friday and booked my appointment with Hayden for Saturday morning. Hayden did an amazing job! Knowing that I had limited time, he wasted no time getting to work. He was friendly & thorough and the scalp massage he gave while washing my hair was simply divine! He explained the process to me during our consultation and also provided so much helpful information about what products to use on my hair. Because we didn't have time for a full style at the end of the appointment he gave me an adorable fishtail braid. The salon itself is clean, full of natural light and they played great music to accompany the 3 hour process. It was a great experience and I would definitely recommend looking at their salon for hair services. read more

I scheduled an appointment on April 2 for May 29, which was the soonest availability. However, the reminder I received listed the wrong time. When I called to clarify, the receptionist immediately blamed me, saying I must have entered it incorrectly on my phone. I honestly don't believe the error was on my end, as I had a standing meeting scheduled at that time. What was most frustrating was the lack of any effort to resolve the issue. There was no attempt to check with the stylist, offer a waitlist, or explore alternatives. Instead, I was told the next available appointment was another month out. I had waited a month more than I normally do to get in. When I said I would need to cancel, the receptionist responded in an upbeat tone, "Okay, I'll get that done," which felt dismissive given the situation. I had also scheduled another appointment for August 1 online, which I chose to cancel as well. The follow-up message I received read: "Hi, Laura! Your two upcoming appointments have been cancelled per your request. Thank you for calling, and we hope you have a great rest of your day! :)" Overall, the interaction felt unprofessional and disappointing--from the initial call to the follow-up communication. I had a hair consultation for brown highlights on my dark brown hair, which is thin and medium-length. After looking at swatches with the stylist, she quoted $135 total for the entire process and said it was going to be pretty easy and not take long since I wasn't going blond or anything. She seemed like she really knew what she was talking about, too. When I went to book the appointment on the phone, they asked me who the stylist was that I had my consultation with and the quote she gave me. I was then told she was on leave, and they'd call me back when she returned. I called a month later when I didn't hear anything, and they said she was still on leave. I called again after several months, and they said she no longer worked there, so I had to come back for another consultation with a different stylist. I did that, asked for the same thing, and was then quoted $125 PER HOUR, with an estimate that it might take up to four hours, and at least three and a half. The stylist told the lady at the front desk to schedule it as a color correction after she asked the stylist, " 3-4 hours for brown highlights?" Something seemed off right there, and the last stylist didn't say anything about scheduling me for a color correction. I don't doubt they would do an amazing job, but the quote/length of time seemed kind of ridiculous in comparison to what I had been previously quoted, and my hair was the same length as at my first consultation, since I recently had it cut. They were extremely pushy in trying to get me to make the appointment too, but I had a very busy schedule coming up, and I had also made up my mind I'd be going elsewhere due to the difference in the price quote. read more

My experience at this salon has not been great. I find that their stylists are not top notch and don't use the latest techniques, attention to detail is lacking and so is listening to the customer. The salon manager doesn't seem to care and thinks demanding customers are too much to handle. Too bad, because it's a cute neighbourhoody salon that could be so much better. My first experience was with a stylist that did my roots. She did a good job, but she never asked me any questions about what I want, how I like my hair styled and frankly as a first time customer she could have put in more effort to convert me to a regular. Maybe she had an off day but that's not the friendly vibe I have learned to expect in Denver. The manager did refund me for the appointment. My next venture was with Will (no longer at the salon) he was a talented colorist and asked tons of questions. However, when it came to haircuts, the first was uneven on one side and I had to come back to fix it and the second didn't give my any layers like I asked. I was recommended Hayden by my neighbour. He was younger, seemed more hip and I thought it would be a good match. He was fine with roots, and when he cut my hair while he gave me a lot of layers, he had them fall at the neck where they flip out, I has asked not to have that happen. I know it can take a little time to calibrate with your stylist but it seemed like a miss. I wanted to get a balayage, and wanted something very natural and sunkissed. I had pictures that I showed him. What I got was very blond highlights, he used foil instead of painting it on, the foil ended up in my hair way too long. The hair was over processed, dry and brittle, I had tons of breakage and crispy hair. This is unacceptable!!! The manager's response was that "we can't make you happy" and while she refunded me, there was not responsibility taken for what happened. Once you screw up someone's hair it's expensive to fix and takes time. I went somewhere else where the stylist immediately knew what was wrong, and is on a patch to give me the hair I want. She also noted the cuts were done old school and she cut my hair in a different way that made it style perfectly. If you want top notch stylist and a salon dedicated to service, and continued education of they stylists this is not it. read more

Singing Rachel's praises!! I think my husband (83) and I (78) might be some of her older clients, but she makes us feel young! About a year ago, I decided to color my greying hair for the first time. Having never done color before, I researched online and found Deseo Salon. I made an appointment for a consult and met the fabulous Rachel. From the moment I chatted with her, I trusted her implicitly. She understood my concerns, my hopes, and -- most importantly -- my hair. She was one of the warmest people I had ever met and our rapport was immediate. Since that time, I have come to know more about this young, brilliant stylist. She is gracious, effervescent, gentle, and interesting. I persuaded my husband -- who hadn't been to a stylist in about six decades -- to come with me and have Rachel cut his hair. He said that he now knew what I'd been raving about for months. Beyond Rachel, the salon is wonderful. They recently moved into new and upscaled quarters. It is contemporary and sleek, yet exudes a warm welcome; it is open and bright, and yet gives a feeling of privacy in each stylist's space; it is softly-scented, evoking a mood of calm and serenity, and yet there is enough bustle and enthusiastic conversation to highlight the camaraderie between stylist and client. Deseo is eco-conscious -- a place where sustainabillity feels indulgent, not austere! Being there is a restorative experience. The front desk staff is outstanding, too. On a very personal note, I want to share two quick stories. One day I arrived at my appointment and was suddenly called to a family member's medical emergency. Despite their policy about cancelled appointments, they understood, didn't charge me, and told me to take my time and that I could rebook whenever I wished. The first time my husband accompanied me, he was offered -- as is everyone upon entering -- a beverage. He requested decaf coffee which they did not have. Yesterday, on his second visit, the lovely receptionist told him that she had ordered decaf specifically because he had asked for it on his first visit. For someone to go above and beyond based on the "need" of one customer is a sign of the caring that this salon exhibits. I cannot say enough good things about Deseo. Go here! Relax here! Enjoy here! wish I could give Zero stars! I had a very important event in the evening, I had an 5:15pm appt for a blowout. Due to snow on the runway, I landed 30 mins late. I called immediately when I landed asking for a 15 mins extension as I was only 30 minutes away and could make it at 5:30 and could the stylist Rachel beckstead kindly stay 15 mins later cause it was really important, the snooty lady on the phone didn't even go ask her. She just said nope immediately and I reaskes and said please, and she wouldn't even try. I mean what's 15 mins in the grand scheme. I would have tipped Racheal big time for her time!! Instead they charge me for the FULL price due to their cancellation policy. I mean it's 29 degrees out and it was out of my control. Situated on the street corner in the Jefferson Park neighborhood, Deseo is wonderful salon with knowledgeable and friendly staff. I've been coming here for a few years now after following my hair dresser, Ann here. Ann listens and knows my hair. Honestly she'll get to know anyone's hair and listen to what you want. She likes when you take risks too, but will still make sure it's a risk you're comfortable with too. I am simple when it comes to my hair. Make it easy to take care of and lay nicely after air drying and I'm happy. But occasionally I'll dye my hair and Ann makes it so much fun! The salon is great too. Great lighting including the natural light that will shine in through the front windows. They have a few options for drinks: water, coffee, and red wine is all I've tried thus far. Parking can be a pain at times though. Some of the street parking is limited to permit parking or the dreaded street sweeper. Overall I've only spent an extra minute finding a spot and maybe walking a block or so. Oh don't forget to say hi to Freddie (sp?), the owners pug. He's a character :) read more

Alyssa was my stylist. I wear my hair in a bob, slanted longer in the front with a clean line to the back. It's a difficult cut and for many years I have struggled to find a stylist again who could properly execute this look. I discovered Deseo Salon when buying my conditioner and shampoo. The look and vibe of the salon struck a positive note so I decided to give them a try. Alyssa is a genius and a consummate professional! I can't remember when I was so happy with a cut. The shape is perfect and my hair falls right back into place-holds its shape, even looks good on day two! Of course, I made my second appointment before leaving this fantastic salon! Would give 10 stars if I could. I am super picky about my hair and usually have disappointing cuts/colors no matter how hard I try to communicate what I want as precisely as possible and not matter how honest I am with myself about what my hair's actual potential is for a look. I knew early on I was in good hands with Alyssa because of the questions she was asking, the info she was volunteering, and the caveats she was sure to mention. Out of all the stylists I've EVER been to, she was the best about making sure we were on the same page and listening to me while also explaining the limitations/signature aspects of balayage. She was also super sure of herself the whole time, which made me feel really reassured. Really excellent time management, professional, and efficient. There wasn't EVER that iffy vibe of the stylist kind of scrambling to fix something while trying to play it cool, frantically mixing up toner. I LOVED that I didn't have to wait for ages when I got there, and I loved that I hadn't been double booked with someone else and the stylist is rushing between the two of us, and I loved that she wasn't gossipy and distracted by the other stylists instead of being present with me (all things that seem to happen really often in hair salons). And she really had the technical skills and range down. I asked for a difficult and specific cut (at least I think it's difficult lol - it's rare to find a stylist who can do it right) - she nailed it, and did it very quickly and assuredly - definitely knows what she is doing. This was my third attempt at getting a balayage in Denver and I was feeling pretty dejected. One of the reasons I chose Alyssa is because she does French-style balayage and so I was hoping to finally get to experience what everyone else seemed to be having luck with, but I kept missing the mark on. It was definitely my best balayage and it came out so beautiful that I came in thinking I'd have to do 2 balayages to get to my desired lightness, but left totally satisfied and in love with the results of the first. I will go back to get it more light, but not in that frantic way of having to "fix" something that doesn't look right, but just because it was so fun to have someone so skilled and professional work on my hair and Alyssa is a rad chick! Lastly, usually I have to plan about 4-5 hours for a cut and color, with Alyssa I was done in 2.5? hours max, I can't exactly remember but do recall being like, wow! That was way sooner than expected! Alyssa Kitson is my new stylist, y'all, and I'm having a major sigh of relief moment to finally FINALLY have someone to trust with my hair. Before coming here, I had purely damaged hair, to the point where it looked and felt like a broom! They recommended me to see Emily and it was LIFE CHANGING. My hair has never felt so nourished, soft, and shiny even with a previous bleach, perm, and another bleach job. Emily truly knows about hair with her 10+ years of experience and I am so so happy that I was paired with her! Thank you Deseo Salon for hiring such a talented woman.
