Went here on a Wowcher deal last night and it was AWESOME! Lovely service from the very nice waitress, together with delicious and authentic Thai food (for a moment, I was transported back to the street food at Khao San Road....) made for a wonderful couple of hours in here.
To start with, we were served with THE BEST PRAWN CRACKERS I HAVE EVER TASTED. Nothing like those synthetic greasy efforts, that come in a plastic bag from your local takeaway. The Bangkok Bar ones are a MUST TRY!
We also got the prawn toasties (£4.70) which - again not what you might be expecting but moreish all the same.
Then for mains my pal ordered the pork noodles and I opted for prawn pad thai (both around £9.50). Couldn't fault my dish at all; it was simply divine. My mate's was great too and she made a point of complimenting the food on the way out.
If I had to fault the place, I would say it's a bit odd having rock bands playing in the live lounge, in the next room. It was quiet for a Wednesday night (only two other diners in there at 7pm) but we saw a few posters for events happening next year. I love rock music but I'm not sure I'd like the music blasting through the PA if I was trying to enjoy a romantic meal?
I don't normally do Thai food in this country, as I'm normally disappointed, but this place met my expectations and more. Would I have gone if it was full price? Maybe not. But now I know it's here I will be back...in fact, I already booked a table for next week! And I will be ordering the pad thai again. read more
