We were really impressed by how smooth the service was here. We called in the morning the day before to make a 3 pm appointment and they took down my name and number. We came in early the day of and we used the restroom and they took us in right away. We are not used to Thai massages to it was painful but the therapists knew what they were doing, cracking our backs and doing deep tissue and pressure massage that I was not expecting. It was hard on the body but they knew what they were doing. We live out of town though but we will likely come try them out again next time we visit SD. The only problem was we kept getting a missed number from the place the day before and day of the massage to confirm we were coming. I've gotten deep tissue massages from countless of places in San Diego. Tonight, I just walked away from the worst. Sad thing is, it was a gift from my hubby for Valentine's Day. We ordered a deep tissue massage for both of us. When he finished, he met me outside because I sent him a text saying "ill be downstairs I'll explain later". Let me tell you why. First, they told a couple that they had to wait an hour because someone double booked them with us for a 5pm appointment. I felt bad for them but what can I do but to mind my business. So let me cut it short. I had the lady who checked us in at the front desk give me a "deep tissue" massage. Yup. I dont know if it's the short staff but the front desk lady was my "masseuse". She didn't wash her hands before and after the massage. She literally, and I am not exaggerating, rubbed massage oil on me in super careful strokes that made me feel like she was scared of putting any pressure on me. I asked her to go harder but all I got were stronger squeeze on my arms. The bed was against the wall so she had to walk over me which felt scary for both of us. The towels used were cold! And how do I know she's not a trained masseuse? Well besides not knowing what she was doing, she also had long nails... not super long but long enough to make me wish she doesn't scratch me. Ok, here's my take on my experience here.... please read to the very end for the redemption and 3 star earning... My sister and I are visiting the area for the weekend and chose this place based on the 4.5 star rating. They have discounted options on Groupon that's made it even more attractive. Before purchasing the Groupon I called for availability and was happy to hear they were able to take us within a couple hours and they would be willing to honor the Groupon price. Let me also preface this by saying that I have had hundreds of massages in my life. I come from the spa industry and have been trained in massage myself. I understand all therapists are different and some massages will be better than others per personal taste and needs. Walking up to the place I'd agree with some of the other reviews it's a bit interesting to go up the stairs but arriving at the second floor it was nice and connected to a medical esthetics office. We were greeted with kind people but were immediately asked what price were quoted on the phone... like there is not set price per person. I DO love to negotiate pricing so I didn't think too much about this and paid up front (which I wish I hadn't) We chose the 90 minute deep tissue massage with the choice of a foot scrub or the hot stones.... we chose the hot stones- duh.. We were able to chose if we wanted to be in a room together or separate. We chose to be in together. The room was nice and clean. Once we got prepared and on the table our therapists came in and asked us what pressure we liked and both of us requested "firm". My massage started out with the pressure a little shy of what my 4 year old niece could offer so I asked for my therapist to go a little stronger with no comment or reaction from her. it was a bit awkward. They proceeded to splash oil on my body while pumping it out of the bottle and rubbed it with little to no pressure. I tried to find a redeeming moment but I just kept getting upset about the fact that I paid $75 for someone to lightly apply oil to my body and when they were done take a wet towel and rub it off. I also opened my eyes a couple times to see they the effort this person gave was minimal at best. I seriously wonder if she has had any formal training with massage at all. The hot stones should have been a wonderful addition to the experience but when I say they just warmed the surface of my skin, I mean that's all they did. So disappointing! Toward the end of the massage my sisters therapist (Arin) started to chat a bit and it seemed like she was working hard & offering a great massage. My sister looked fully relaxed and satisfied with her massage except for the fact that we only received a 1 hour massage and not 90min. Once both therapists were out of the room I expressed my disappointment with my sister and we decided to let the front desk know. *Here is the redemption and reason for 3 stars* The therapist my sister had, Arin, and another therapist, Macy were at the desk. Arin was not surprised at all about my experience as she observed it as well. They both listened and offered to take us back into the room to make it right. Macy then worked on me for 30 min and did more in that short time than I had in the previous hour. She is very strong and good at what she does. Arin worked on my sister another 30 min and was also fantastic. Both of these ladies went above and beyond to not only help us with our negative experience, but make up where one of the other employees had a massive fail! The room was a good temperature, clean, and relaxing. Our masseuses: Elle and Lydia were fabulous!!! My husband and I just got out of a couples massage and WOW! They do not hesitate to get in there and work hard for the full hour. They incorporate stretching alongside massage to give you the best after-massage results. We happened to be running late because of some rain flooding roads and showed up 10 minutes into our appointment time. We fully expected to have a 50 minute massage instead but we were pleasantly surprised when they were beyond nice about it and still gave us the full hour! The one thing to note is that their location is a little tricky to find. It's off G street up a staircase but Google maps will tell you you've arrived off 4th in front of the Mexican restaurant so just plan to arrive early enough to find parking and walk around the corner. Amazing!!!! My girlfriend surprised me with a 1.5 hour massage after the half marathon. The staff was super accommodating. When I told them I just ran the marathon my therapist concentrated on my legs and shoulders. Took out all the knots and tight muscle fatigue! Also in the middle of the session I got a cramp on my left leg. She immediately grabbed my leg and held it in a position to prevent any more pain. My wife and I are here in SD celebrating her birthday and I was trying to find something to surprise her with while staying here. I had came across Bangkok day spy and was skeptical at first so I took a gamble at it was the best choice Ever. Let me rewind. I get 2/3 professional massages each month and this was far better then what I am currently getting back home. Dadda was my masseuse and she made sure and asked my twice if the pressure was ok so plus points for insuring it was to my liking. Dadda not only gave me an amazing massage but during the massage stretched my body out in ways I didn't even know was possible. Dadda was a damn Angel and I will be going back to this place every time we are in SD and will definitely recommend to anyone visiting. My wife had a massage by Aarin and she was very satisfied with her as well. Not as much stretching but it's up to you what you are looking for but these girls both know what they are doing and are very professional. They made my wife's birthday. I have been here for a massage twice so far, and there were several inconsistencies both times. As soon as I arrived for my initial appointment, the lady at the front desk took me directly to the room to get undressed. There was no introduction, no paperwork, and she did not even ask me about any specific problem areas. At one point, she started using hot stone which helped to mitigate my sore muscles. I felt that she didn't really incorporate many Thai techniques; it felt much more like a Swedish massage. She did stretch me for about a minute towards the end and gently pounded on my back with her fists for 10 seconds; other than that, it wasn't much of a Thai massage. She also ended the session 10 minutes early. For my returning visit, I had a different massage therapist named Jiji who did a fantastic job. My visit with her was definitely 5 Stars. She inquired about any problem areas and made sure to focus on those areas. She incorporated many Thai massage techniques, and she spent a reasonable amount of time stretching me out in several places. Unfortunately, she didn't use hot stone or tiger balm like the previous massage therapist, but her technique was so good that I didn't really mind. She also went the full 60 minutes. Jiji was very sweet and asked me if I was ok every single time she heard a crack, which happened several times during the massage, and boy did it feel good. My only complaints would be that the room was cold and Jiji stepped out a few times to grab hot towels- those should be accessible in every room. Great deal with the yelp check in too. Very thorough massage that I felt was curtailed to my needs. I told her that I wanted a deep pressure, and she sure delivered! I fell off my bike the day before, and she found areas of my body that I didn't even know I had hurt. 2. I was surprised at the quality of massage for the price. Very reasonable cost. 3. I have only had one Thai massage before, and I thought it was more stretching and passive range of motion from the therapist, but this was way more Swedish style than I would have thought. The therapist did request I take off all of my clothes, and did a lot of hands on massage. At the end, there was some stretching, but a little different than what I expected. Cons- 1. I would not have minded some more stretching, just because that is what I thought I was getting. What I got was a great massage, so I wouldn't say it was bad- just different. 2. Clean and professional- the only suggestion I would give this establishment is maybe a little more of an introduction/consult prior to starting the massage. I was sat on, twisted like a pretzel and pretty sure masseuse put his knee into my spine while pulling my arms way back (your breasts are exposed in this position, may want to keep your bra on if you're not comfortable). They talked a bit in their native tongue which didn't allow for relaxation at the beginning....I had to grunt to get them to be quiet. Baby was left on the table the first time for about 10 minutes so the lady could answer the phone and door.... because they don't have a receptionist. The second time she left, she returned in less than 2 minutes... but came back in talking.... sounded like gossip. I let them talk a good 3-4 minutes before I finally said "excuse me can y'all talk more quietly?" Baby ended up telling me that while they were gossiping, the lady stopped massaging him altogether, and just had her hand on his shoulder. Thus, the lady was docked on her tip. The room needs more space between the beds. The lady kept pushing Baby's bed back and forth whenever she was back to back with my therapist.... they kept bumping into each other! Needless to say.....I would never come back. I gave 2 stars because the massage was decent... not the best... but decent. The 90 minute massage ended after about 75 minutes.
