On November 13th, 20013, a coworker of mine recommended this particular location after I asked her who did her sew in. She said that the bangs salon did her hair and informed me that they also did natural hair. Because I am natural. I was so excited that called the very next day to make my appointment 2 weeks in advance ( once a year I straighten hair) so I was really excited. I usually go to so kinky so curly so straight salon on mayfield rd. So on the day of my appointment which was at about 9am I walk in and I was very impressed with the lime green and black decor. So I have a seat and I wait and I wait and I wait until this lady comes out and I smile because finally I'm about to be seen. Not! She decides to make herself some coffee and walk back into the salon area. Wait, what?! Excuse me bitch for thinking my hair and excellent customer service came first before your precious cup of coffee. Now I'm pissed and want to leave but I really want my hair done. So finally she comes back and ask me who I'm waiting for, I tell her mind you I did make an appointment ( I wish I could remember her name if I had a list I could tell you, but she's light skin and she looks mixed at the time her hair was long and blond) and I'm brought back and let me tell you what happened: This person who claims to be a professional, looks at my hair in disgust, like wtf am I suppose to do with that? And while I'm standing with my coat on yanks at my hair without warning. Then she says, "you can hang your coat up over there", how rude. So I'm doing the walk of shame now because I already know what's about to happen. My previous hair style that I was wearing at the time was a Afro puff and my edges gelled down. This bimbo decides that she would take a hot ass flat iron to my hair, gel and all. Then she tells me that my hair is virgin hair and that it has never been straighten before and that my ends are so damaged that she would have to cut my chin length hair to my ears and the charge would be $80. $&}%€**£¥? Is you crazy? You better get cho life! Then she ask me am I'm ok with that I told her no and she handed me her card and told me to make an appointment when I was okay with that. I said thank you and left and as soon as I hit that door I tossed her card to the wind. Really, how dare you treat a customer like that. You could imagine how I felt being told that basically my hair was too nappy just off a glance. My hair was not washed or conditioned and I had gel build up so of course it looked a little crazy. She didn't even try. How can u call yourself a professional that claims to do natural hair? If you decide for a year that you don't want a perm and you constantly get your hair pressed without getting your ends clipped I am sorry, you are not natural and you won't be until your ends are clipped and clear of all permed hair. And that's the type of ("natural" I think they are use to). They should specify that they only do natural hair textures A-1C. Overall the place is nice and pretty to look at but the workers are rude and ghetto and the conversation that they where having at the time was inappropriate for a work environment. Bangs was a great experience. It was my first time here and Sonya did my hair. I'm a mix of 3c/4a curls and Sonya was friendly, attentive and asked me all the right questions (are you tenderheaded, etc.). I love that she's Team Natural and I got the sense that she wasn't just "doing" my hair but taking care of it. There's definitely a difference. I had a deep condition, trim, blow out and silk press and it took maybe two hours. There were two other clients that she working on (ya'll know that sometimes this can be an issue with salons) but Sonya manages her time effectively. I never felt like I wasn't a priority. The salon is nice and roomy and bright and the staff did an excellent job of sanitizing and social distancing as needed. There's plenty of parking and the place is easy to find although there wasn't great signage on the exterior and I had to call to make sure I was in the right place. Well.. I felt confident about going to this salon. I did a walk in and the girl was very nice and felt welcoming over the phone. When I got there, I sat in the lobby for almost an hour while she was just sitting there in her chair , after the "receptionist " said I was waiting. She took me to her chair and combed my hair BONE DRY. anyone with natural curly hair knows that's a BIG NO NO!! After blow drying me she put mouse on my crown and wrapped my head and put me under the dryer? Why? This is where the bad part starts. I requested curls and she dove right in... literally. She didn't even do a single pass on my hair. Just started curling it. i noticed I needed a trim and requested that... she TRIMMED MY ENDS BLOWDRIED. At this point I'm already over it... when's she curling my hair I felt like I was levitating from the chair ( she was PULLING my hair ). There is still INCHES of old dead hair curled at the bottom like she was tryna camouflage the fact that 1, she was rushing and 2 that she doesn't care about " specializing in healthy hair". the salon over all is a nice place . Several other clients looked confident after walking out and I'm upset because I'm still walking around with old dead hair on my hair that could've easily been removed. Bangs Salon is FANTASTIC! I won't go anywhere else. The trendy salon is chic and the stylists are top notch! Professional, yet personable environment combined with a host of talented stylists!! They provide a wide range of services too! I am so lucky to have found this salon. I left my last stylist after going to her for 20 years!! I didn't know what I was missing until I went Bangs Salon and had Sonya Mitchell provide my service... WOW! she had me at the shampoo bowl and I haven't looked back! Its been two years!! Great location and the decor is really nice. The shampoo girl introduced herself and was pleasant, unfortunately the stylists were unprofessional and rude. The owner might consider customer service classes for the staff as they represent the salon. I scheduled an appointment for my 5 year old biracial daughter to get her hair trimmed. I felt that if I scheduled an appointment here I could get some suggestions for her hair. From the moment I arrived for her appointment I did not feel welcomed and the staff was not polite. The way they spoke to me was very unprofessional. There was no courtesy here. When scheduling my appointment nothing was explained to me ahead of time in regards to their "covid protocol" I honestly should of walked back out and not returned for my appointment from the moment I walked in. When I arrived on time the stylist was not in the building. I was instructed to wait in my car. The stylist then came out to the car and asked if I had an appointment, when I made it and what my daughter was getting done. Now fast forward to her hair trim. They had no hot water so she didn't even get her hair washed prior to her cut. I will not return, nor recommend this place to anyone. read more

I've been to this salon twice and so far I like it. I got my hair done by two different stylist and they both did a good job of doing my hair how I wanted it (and I will admit I'm somewhat picky). I received a cut, rinse, and style and I was satisfied. I'm not sure about how good they are with hair care/treatment because neither stylists mentioned anything about what products are good for my hair, but maybe I'm just used to that from previous stylist so I can't hold that against them if they don't give up the information freely. In addition, I must add that they must be doing something right because both times of gone there I've seen the salon with plenty of customers that had a head full of healthy looking hair. It wasn't like the average "black" salon where you see majority of the women with damaged, over-processed hair that they try to act like doesn't exist by covering it up with some type of sew-in, glue in, or quick weave! I love this salon! I'm new to Cleveland just moved here from Atlanta GA (the hair capital of America) and I'm very skeptical about letting new people do my hair. I asked around and several people told me about this location.. I believe the Owners name is Edith and she's the stylist who did my beastly mane! I was so scared because she told me I would need a serious hair cut due to all the heat damage on my ends. (Note I'm 23 and haven't had a hair cut since I was 14). Long story short she cut my hair and now it looks so healthy and bouncy and I've gotten so many compliments it's CRAZY! She definitely has helped me conquer my fear of the scissors. Staff was very friendly and we're constantly moving making their clients feel appreciated! They even offered me water and coffee! Omg I think I found my home salon! Every single client from each stylist that I noticed left looking BEAUTIFUL! Definitely recommend this salon for maximum slayage! read more

Omg omg where to begin...I decided to try this place based on a friend, her hair turned out amazing so I wanted mine to be just as amazing. Mind you when I say amazing im referring to she had no hair and now it is down her back. She always always always talked about how her stylist was so awesome and treated her so well and I craved this treatment too. I'm very punctual or at least I try to be anyway. If I am late its no more than 5 or 10 mins. Anywho im getting off topic. So I go and im sitting there and waiting and waiting and waiting but I will say that after she was done my hair felt amazing, it might have had something to do with Sonya the shampoo girl, I think I love her lol and if I could take her with me I prob would have due to the amazing shampoo job she did. But back to the topic on hand. I wouldn't suggest this location just based on the service and this is just based on the girl I had. I wish I could remember her name but I was so mad I wish I would have wrote it down. Customer service is poor. Every time I call the receptionist or person answering the phone is unprofessional. The last time I called this salon, I called three times within a 40 minute period and never even had the opportunity to schedule an appt. The first time my call was disconnected after being on hold for 5 mins and 23 seconds. I gave them some time, and called back a few minutes later. The second time I called, I told the receptionist that I was on hold and disconnected and that I wanted to schedule an appt. She put me on hold, and I was on hold for 19 mins and 41 seconds before I decided to hang up and call back. When I called back, my call went straight to vm. I went to this salon because it was in a good location near my home. The service was okay so my daughter decided to go there to get a sew in. Big mistake the stylist named Ari did my daughters hair and while she was doing the sew in she(Ari) was told that it was too tight but she did not listen to her client. Ari continued sewing it in very tight needless to say my daughter sew in was so tight she could not sleep for 2 nights. She contacted the stylist to see what could be done the very next day and she said she would just have to wait a few days or shampoo it we did what she said but it was unbearable. Needless to say she did not offer any assistance and was a bit short with an attitude. My daughter had to take the sew in out after 3 days. So I wouldn't recommend going here for the simple reason the clients are not that important to them. I say that because when my daughter got to the salon there was no receptionist and she waited for an hour before the stylist even came over to say Hi or I will be right with you Nothing for an hour and she had an appointment . Let me start by saying that I do not appreciate having to waste time writing this review. But I felt compelled to do so not only because of the extreme lack of professionalism experienced at the hands of both the "owner" and the owner's daughter, but also because of the nonsensical reason given for my experience. So, let's begin: 1) I called the salon several times during each day for a week attempting to make an appointment. Tuesday late afternoon I decided to leave a message. No one EVER returned my call or even answered the phone until FRIDAY. 2) On Friday, a person who identified themselves as the owner's daughter, answered. By then the stylist I wanted to see was booked for the week. I began to inform the receptionist of the difficulties I experienced when attempting to contact the salon and was given every excuse known to man as to why the hired receptionist and no one else in the building could ever answer the phone. I went on to tell her that I had left a message. She told me that they didn't receive any message. Not once did she just, as would be expected at any real business, apologize for my inconvenience and tell me they would address the matter and then attempt to schedule me. No. What she did do was cut me off mid sentence with her repetitive and ridiculous explanation (filibuster?). After I was tired of being cut off, I raised my voice so that she could hear me over her own voice. I was then accused of yelling at her. I asked for the manager and was told the owner was not in -- at which point I got fed up and hung up. 3) The owner calls - ha ha ha. 4) The owner proceeds to tell me she is out of town. What this has to do with the price of tea in China I will never know (i.e., relevance?). The owner proceeds to tell me that a truck hit the building and that the phones were out of service on Tuesday and on Wednesday until noon and that she did not inform the receptionist of this fact as she doesn't need to consult with the receptionist. LMAO. Okay folks here we go!! If phone service was out on the 1 and 1/2 days mentioned, what happened on the other 1/2 day and on Thursday? Why was NO ONE able to check the voicemail? Why was the receptionist i.e., the person hired to answer the phones and to provide customer service not given the tools with which to effectively carry out her responsibilities? Why was the receptionist allowed to provide erroneous information to clients? Wait a minute -- didn't the person who answered say they were the owner's daughter? Why wouldn't she know the building had been hit by a truck? If the owner is out of town, who is handling the crisis? Where's the receptionist? This is a hair salon where, as we ALL know, gossip and discussion is a staple. You mean to tell me that no one that works at the salon, except the out of town owner, knew the phones were out and the building has been hit by a truck? Whew! 5) The owner tells me that I can't be calling up to the shop getting mad. (this is her broken english, not mine). She said her purpose in calling me was to diffuse the situation. Nice diffusion. MAD? Mad I say. Situation? What situation. I could care less. Hair salons are a dime a dozen. Doesn't she understand the industry in which she chose to exist? How insulting. Now, I am angry. BTW, dogs get mad, people get angry. So I asked her if she was chastising me and if she was really seriously speaking to a client in this manner. I was disgusted and told her that this is why people don't like doing business with African Americans (well, not all, but people like her) and that I would not be back. She responded by saying that her salon was the #1 salon in the area and then by saying "don't come back." Honey...Boo Boo, if you are #1 then you should have expected that the some of the plethora of clients you have would have attempted to call on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday and that they would want a clear explanation as to why no one could pick up the phone or return their messages. You should have been prepared for a deluge. But you weren't, because you're not #1. You chose to allow your daughter to make up spur of the moment nonsense with no apologies or concern for your clients. And to argue with and talk over a client. In the end... I'm sure the story she told at the salon sounded something like -- "She crazy girl. I told her not to come back." LOLOL...as if. Girl Bye!! Good luck building a REAL business.
