She always went above and beyond to find creative strategies of how to help me because I can be difficult and uncooperative at times. She got me out of rock bottom and I'm so forever grateful. I would also like to give a special thanks to Freeman. Freeman made a HUGE impact on my 8 month stay at Lifeskills. Numerous times I would come back from a therapy session and feel overwhelmed with emotions and Freeman helped me process them. Every time Freeman saw me struggling he would talk to me, make jokes. He really made me feel supported and safe. He got me to laugh on days when that was the last thing I thought I could do. He has a lot of life advice that really changed my perspective. I hope I can be half as wise and compassionate as he is one day. All the staff at Lifeskills are great but these two individuals really truly changed my life in countless ways. Lifeskills has a really special thing set up for when it is time for a client to leave the program. You have a "goodbye" group. You are surrounded by a room full of other clients/friends, your primary therapist, and the tech team all of whom have been with you for months. This was probably the most bittersweet moment in my life. During my goodbye group I felt so many emotions, I was excited to go home and continue my life but also insanely sad because I would miss the place and people who have supported me and changed my life. I hope Lifeskills always keeps the Goodbye Group because frequently I think about how supported and proud I felt when I had mine. It was really really special. EDIT: I am now in college and majoring in psychology because I want to help others the way I have been helped. I won't go into details but this is the WORSE doctor I have ever seen. She cares about one thing only MONEY how much money are you going to bring her. And she's expensive and gives you hardly any of her time. Her lack of tact and bed side manners are atrocious. She has zero manners of or in speech. I contacted the main offices in Florida "Health" to report her. Her malpractice of how she treated me did qualify for them to do at least an investigation. I guess depending on what they find they take the next step. However only how she handled my med was a "valid" reason for them to make what they called a "valid complaint" it said in the forms that bed side manners would not be considered a "valid complaint" Yes how she handle my med could have cause me serious physical damage. It was very serious However I don't see how a doctor in the mental health field is not required to have bedside manners or tact. Its words they use to communicate with patients with a myriad of problems from insomnia to depression, BP, ect,ect It requires excellent communication skills, tact and a kind tone are a MUST HAVE for them. More than Docs in other fields. However I did not follow through as I did not have time. I found another really good Doctor. Before I go any further. Anyone seeking treatment for any diagnosis given due to child abuse and neglect like PTSD, Please read the updated info by real doctors with cutting edge info like Bruce Perry PHD and Judith Herman MD. These Docs write in a manner that is easy to understand and will give the readers very good clue on what to look for in a competent doc and why is key to treatment. Because doctors like Amy Kosches can do more harm than good. She is outdated in her knowledge.Very outdated. And a Doc that seems to have control issues. Another very important issue with this doc is that she doesn't thoroughly explain her choice of med for you and to you the patient This breaches on a very important law. The Informed Consent Law. I mean I've read a lot about psychology and I saw a very good top of the line very ethical psychiatrist for my insomnia on and off for 19 years.. There was never a problem because from the beginning he established an atmosphere of mutual respect and a safe validating environment.. . This woman in my opinion and my experience as an extremely well informed patient should lose her lic.. This woman is not cheap I paid 280 for the first consul that was 35 mins of her time and 85 there after for like 15-20 mins of her time.. Now a days Doctors can monitor their reviews...So her reviews are good. I had read previews reviews before where others expressed the same outrage at her treatment. After I read a great book called "People of the lie" by Scott Peck MD. which I highly recommend It made me think of her. Narcissists don't "see" others they have NO empathy. And the last observation i'm going to mention about the woman is that she does not remain objective about her patients. For those who may wonder what I mean about staying "objective" about her patients. This is the perfect definition from the dictionary. Objective: treating or dealing with facts without distortion by personal feelings or prejudices. Also she is NOT really listening to her patients either. When I requested my chart from her. Everything I had told her was wrong in her notes and I could/can prove that. Is like she wasn't even paying full atte to what I was telling her. I am writing this review out of concern for patients who are paying big money to these Doctors and that money should include ethical, kind, humane, up to date treatment and up to date knowledge. Facility was left unlocked to test patients and see if they'd escape, but some did and got into some situations on the streets because it's a bunch of fast food places and stuff. They'd still get into trouble for trying to escape even if they went batshit crazy We got in trouble for things simple as not eating just because we were upset and had to write real long essays. Staff were alright, some were kind of assholes though and one of the therapists had a DUI charge if you look at the Reddit post someone made about this place. HIPPA laws were violated not gonna lie, for some reason whenever someone went a level down in residential they had other kids vote. Why's this an issue? Because I knew my shit five days in and they were jealous because they don't handle their problems on their own. One of my friends was forced to share their r*pe story to I don't know, maybe around 40 kids in the room?? They didn't want to which their privacy shouldn't be violated like that in the first place and they broke down crying. The computer lab smelled like cigarettes and we weren't allowed to contact our parents if we got in trouble. Apparently it was only once a week under supervision so my dad even made a code sentence to say if I needed help because we had a bad feeling about this place. Now, I only stayed for six days because I emailed my teacher through the school site to contact my mom and tell her I needed help. Got banned from the computers that day but I have no regrets because if I hadn't done that I don't know the shit I could've endured. I had six bakeracts before that and witnessed some pretty wild situations at a young age because I was under a prescription cascade by my old doctor and had side effects so I'd hurt myself. Never had ill intentions towards anyone and hated altercations especially because I'm bad at social interaction. But this place? I would have done SL here again but I had a terrible experience. My house mom, Samantha, was a $#&#. She was totally unprofessional and verbally abusive. Basically a wannabe bully. Then, under her leadership, I kept getting did poisoning and could barely keep anything down. Then, when I returned to PHP the symptoms resolved itself within 12 hours. Then, the techs like Dianne were very empathetic and professional. My case manager Lola was rude and incompetent. She sent me to a Teen Challenge where that was the most cousin-loving, backwards, eugenics to infinity staff worked there. Lastly, the CEO Gus is a great leader. He took the time to reach out to each person one at a time. Like my therapist Mr. Gus made me feel like I s was the only patient in the world because he was such a great listener and teacher. Mrs. Shareif, Dr. Britney, Mr. Billy, Mrs. Debra you're down my old habits that weren't serving me and took the time to reframe my thinking and develop new habits.
