Our new favorite BBQ!…read more I noticed Off The Hook as we were driving home one day from an errand on North Oak Trafficway. The exterior looked inviting and the parking lot seemed adequately busy, so I noted to my husband that we would have to check it out soon. Several days later we brought our infant and a friend and were warmly greeted by staff who explained the ordering process and instantly made us feel welcomed. We didn't have to wait for seating but it's was nice to see a local business like this pretty busy with patrons. We had a hard time figuring out what we wanted (it honestly all looked good) but decided on brisket nachos, a pulled pork loaded potato and burnt ends with fries and baked beans. When I say everything we ate was phenomenal I mean it rivaled a lot of the major local spots that people flock to in KC for BBQ. I also loved the sauces and did feel the regular/spicy had enough of a variation to appeal to differing tastebuds (I'm a spicy fan and while it wasn't the hottest I've had it had some bite.) Despite some other reviews on here we felt the price was a great value - especially on the nachos and potato - for the amount of BBQ/food. The Mac and cheese we ordered for our daughter was also some of the best we've had out of the house and as a Texan I loved the flavor of the queso on the nachos. We have since returned many times and the service and food have been consistently good. We have brought friends and family each time who similarly rave about the food and good people serving it - and many have returned on their own without us. We also recently took the chance to try their (weekday morning) breakfast burritos after salivating over them on the menu...WOW is all I can say. Worth every penny - huge and had tons of flavor. My dad is quite the foodie and could not stop raving about them. I hope this business continues to have lots of success/growth and that they continue serving up good food here in the northland (and beyond, if they please.) Such a wonderful local spot!

I ordered the lobster tacos and they were impressive in both taste and presentation. I also ordered a cup of Clam Chowder which was served with oyster crackers. Served in a cute sack with their logo and story. I ordered on the app so it was ready to pick up when I wanted with no line or wait. Staff text you when your order is ready which is super convenient as you can wait in your car if you choose to not order ahead. You order points towards free shop items as you order their food. It's a win-win situation. Thanks for the great experience!

Honestly, I don't even know if they deserve that. Today, my mother and I planned to get a lobster flight. My mother is a native New Yorker who grew up catching her own seafood, and living on a farm in rural Buckner, MO, she rarely gets the opportunity to enjoy a good lobster roll. I drove three hours from St. Louis, refusing to stop even though my doctor has instructed me to stop every hour to help prevent blood clots, because my mom was so excited to try this food truck. For once, it was close to her house. Driving to Lee's Summit is a huge stretch for her, while even Costco in Independence is much more manageable. I got home around 12:20 p.m., and we immediately hopped in her car to head to the event, which was advertised as running from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. We arrived around 12:50 p.m. only to be turned away because of the heat. We had just driven 30 minutes to get there, only to be dismissed because it was "too hot." Last week, in similar weather, the St. Louis truck had no issues operating and serving well over a hundred people during the food truck festival. I was almost in tears, and so was my mother. This was supposed to be a special treat for her. Personally, I feel like the heat was an excuse. My father owned and operated a food stand at the Missouri State Fair for years, smoking meat for over a week at a time and serving thousands of people. There was no food truck and no air conditioning. I am absolutely in favor of keeping people safe during extreme heat, but when you own and operate a food truck, hot weather is something you know you'll encounter. I also work a second job serving food and drinks out of a shed with nothing more than a fan for eight-hour shifts, and we don't close because of the heat. To make matters worse, the employee told us they had posted the closure online. There was nothing posted online.

It is so awesome to be able to get a custom beverage and snack right in front of your office first thing in the morning. The convenience factor alone gives it 5 stars. That being said, even if it wasn't convenient I'd seek out this local gem. When I see the CoffeeCake truck around town I feel excitement build within me. Maybe it's the caffeine addiction talking but they serve up some of the best drinks to come out of a truck. I usually stick to a non-fat latte or a freshly brewed tea (hot or iced depending on the season) and my favorite coconut muffins! (For all you coconut haters, I'm glad you hate coconut because then there's still a muffin left for me by the time I get to the truck!) My coworkers favorites are the flat white, pablo, dirty chai, mocha, hot chocolate, and, of course, the infamous coffee cake. Service with a smile is an understatement. By your second or third visit the ladies on the truck will know you're face and order by heart and love you for it!

So, I am 100% behind this idea coming to fruition now in Kansas City, where it is admittedly a lot easier to find a non corporate cup of coffee, but try to do so in the evening, especially weekends after 3pm, and you're SOL. Or, perhaps you're having a busy workday and can't get in your car to locate some caffeine. Not to mention, when there are events around town like First Weekends in the Bottoms and you find yourself needing some little boost to get you in for the long haul or art walkin' and antique pickin' (yes, this was me on Saturday). Enter CoffeeCakeKC offering up some of the best roasted bean juice in town! What was it, 95 degrees on Saturday? Nothing like an iced Americano (with soy milk, yay!!) to brighten these languid, humid days and CCKC's is perfect in flavor (nutty, strong, not bitter). I was too hot for a baked good, but I look forward to this option in the future. They look/smell divine! Not to mention the fact the people behind this operation are extremely nice, so ordering up is a pleasure. Be sure to subscribe to their Twitter feed so you can stalk them for that which keeps your motor runnin'.
