Baptist Hospital and the great doctors in the Heart institute saved my life! I had been brought into the em room by ambulance several times for congestive heart failure and while I understand that the emergency room needs improvement I also know that every single time I was brought in I was respected and treated with dignity! I am transgender and I was addressed by my chosen name not my dead name! yes it took a long time to get a room once they decided to admit me one time my sister was so upset because I layed on a gurney in the hallway for 3 days before they fo a room for me but this is a problem that they need to fix the emergency room as far as the work they do is great I was near death when they brought me in on the ambulance and they saved me and stabilized me and even though I had to wait sometimes days for a bed they m sure that I was taken care of that I was as comfortable as possible given the situation and that I ate and that I had all the proper care and medication that I needed! as it turned out I had a faulty heart valve do to a birth defect that I didn't know I had and that had kept getting worse and worse for 62 years until I started having congestive heart failure! while in the hospital the last time the ambulance brought me in I was referred to one of the doctors at the heart institute and they did valve replacement surgery and replaced the defective valve in my heart! that was a year ago and today I am doing better than I have ever done with my heart ! I can't say enough good things about Baptist hospital or the heart institute because Baptist hospital and the heart institute and the good doctors and nurses in the ER and the heart institute and on the 9 th floor saved my life I would be dead right now if it weren't for the care they gave me and the surgery that the doctor from the heart institute preformed on me! they saved my life literally !! Not quite sure where to begin, but wow. I'll sum it up, my husband went by to have pre op labs, we are private pay, so we took care of everything at point of service and I had done my research regarding the cost beforehand so there wouldn't be surprises. well...we got a bill for lab "review" from third party, which did not occur. I called billing and was greeted by the RUDEST, most disinterested person ever. Talked over me the entire time. I spoke to another person who when I said, "you are telling me that you MAILED lab work to Toledo Ohio yet we got results in two hours?" She said "well, yeah". The labs were reviewed in house, it was only bloodwork and chest X-ray, yet they persisted in saying we were being billed again. I finally spoke to someone who made it right and confirmed all results were obtained in house and not sent out to a 3rd party. But I gotta say...it took MANY phone calls and terse words and I do not recommend dealing with this place 100/10, and we will not in the future. read more

The only reason I am giving their emergency department a one is because giving them a zero is not an option! We recently went to Baptist because a dear friend had been injured in a fall . She was in a lot of pain and we sat with her in her room for an extended period of time before the doctor came to see her. Her nurse let's call her. Tay Tay was not compassionate. In fact she was sarcastic and when our friend said that her pain level was 25 on a scale of one to 10 Tay Tay asked if she was a redhead. I wouldn't even give this hospital 1 star ,I went to the emergency room last night severely ill ,I have CHF was sick to my stomach struggling to breathe ,I know the symptoms and also seen my blood counts on my patient profile I have one of the highest Pro BNP numbers ever seen by most doctors and I was left sitting in the ER waiting room for 4 hours , I seen several patients walk in and walk out after I arrived, I finally went to the triage nurse in the lobby and ask her to remove the IV they put in I stood a better chance of coming home and self medicated myself with the lasix I had on hand , I strongly recommend if you are really sick and need immediate help not to go to this ER ,I haven't been to sacred heart or West Florida but they have got to be far better than this hospital read more

My husband went here after a stroke. The stroke ward was directly beneath the landing pad for the life flight helicopter, no sleep was possible. Also a patient across the hall had family visiting, including small children running up and down the hall, they did not leave until 1 AM. The nurse said there was nothing she could do about it. They had to get a life-flight nurse to come down and start an IV, no one on the floor knew how. When he was transferred to the SNF, no one could tell when the doctor would be by to see him, or even how to contact the doctor. It was really just like being in a nursing home. read more

This was our first time in this new facility after being referred to the Heart & Vascular Office for a heart monitor. We had a good visit and highly recommend this facility for your individual needs. The inside of this facility is clean and well-organized. After sitting in the waiting area for only a few minutes I was called back. The process was so smooth and everything you need to know is explained. The appointment flowed very well, to the point registration with great customer service. I don't recall the lady's name that helped me but she was very nice. read more

I recently visited a friend in the hospital and witnessed an interaction that left me deeply concerned about patient rights and proper medical conduct. When the doctor entered the room, he asked the patient's grandmother to step into the hallway so he could speak with her privately. My friend (43)--the actual patient--was awake, alert, sitting up in bed, and at no point had he ever been deemed incompetent or unable to make his own medical decisions. While standing in the hall, the doctor told the grandmother that "there was nothing he could do at this point," and then simply walked away. At no time did he speak directly to the patient, notify the patient of his medical status, or include him in his own care discussion. From what I witnessed, this situation raised serious concerns. Basic healthcare standards require that: Alert and competent patients must be spoken to directly about their own medical care. Patients have the legal right to receive information, ask questions, and be involved in decisions about their treatment. HIPAA and patient-privacy rules protect the patient--not the family--unless the patient has specifically authorized someone to receive private medical information. Providers are expected to communicate honestly, respectfully, and transparently with the patient first, unless the patient chooses otherwise. While I cannot speak to the exact laws broken, the behavior I witnessed did not align with normal hospital policies, ethical duties, or patient-rights standards. It showed a lack of communication, respect, and professionalism in a moment where clarity and compassion were absolutely necessary. Overall, what I saw was unacceptable and far below the level of care any patient deserves. #cardiac read more

If it were possible to give negative stars I would. DO NOT BRING YOUR LOVED ONE TO BAPTIST ER!!! This is our second trip here in 2 months time and it will definitely be our last. On the first trip to the ER my husband was transported by ambulance from his dialysis appointment in Gulf Breeze to Baptist Main because he was having severe stomach pain and vomiting and was very weak. We were told he had to come here because they offer dialysis. He arrived at the ER around 10:30 in the morning and I met him here. When I got here he was sitting in the lobby in a wheelchair chair. Other than having blood drawn he had not been seen by a doctor. He was finally seen by someone around 2 and it was decided that he needed to be admitted. He did not get moved to a room until 8:30 that evening. All that time we were placed in the lobby without anyone checking on him. He ended up be in the hospital for 8 days. On the 7th day I had to ask a nurse to please give him a fresh gown and change his sheets. They were covered in blood and urine. Disgusting treatment from such a big, fancy hospital. Today is our second trip to the ER. Once again he was transported by ambulance. He was presenting with the same symptoms as the other visit. He has extreme abdominal pain and vomiting. We have been here since 8:45 this morning. It is almost 4:00 in the afternoon. At least he is in a bed but we are still in the ER. He is being admitted but they say that they are just waiting for a room to become available. We are in what they referred to as the overflow area. They are saying that it might be 8 or 8:30 tonight before a room becomes available. In the meantime continue to wait and my husband continues to suffer. SHAME ON YOU, BAPTIST HOSPITAL. YOU HAVE YOUR FANCY NEW FACILITY BUT YOUR PATIENT CARE IS SORELY LACKING. read more

This is the 3rd time that I've been to the emergency room at Baptist Hospital and I will never come again. The service on in the emergency room is ridiculous. It's more like being at an outpatient clinic where you have no appointment versus an "emergency" room. Every time we've come, whether it is crowded or not there is at least a 3-4 hour wait to be seen. I guess nothing is really an emergency unless you come in having a heart attack. Maybe that is the only time they see you immediately. My mom came in today by ambulance and they still just wheeled her to the waiting room and we just sat there for hours with her in pain. I understand that you will more than likely always have a wait time in an emergency room but Baptist Hospital is by far the worst waiting time ever. Our oncologist sent us to the ER for testing after bloodwork came back extremely high bilirubin. So now we can't do chemo tomorrow. I have never been so angry in a hospital and nobody cares. I can only speak on myself and the experience I received I was an employee that happens to have epilepsy. My first day on the job I had a seizure ! I then woke up from the seizure in a MRI machine . No emergency contact nor my family was called when I had the seizure . I was then told not to return until they told me I can return I never heard from Baptist . After hiring a lawyer I then found out I was terminated . When I read the reason why I was shocked due to what they explain never happen and the allegations that was said about me are all signs of a seizure. When I ask for my work records I was told by HR I needed a subpoena which by law is not true . I am not writing my review for sympathy or empathy. I watched multiple people walk out without being fully seen but had multiple test ran before getting to see a dr including myself. After waiting for 3 hrs eventually I left. Almost passing out while getting an X-ray and getting pushed out fast back to the Er waiting room. The whole get all the test done so the doc can spend 5 mins in the room dosen't work. If the doc dosen't want to see a pt then retire problem solved. But my insurance won't be paying the doctor like they did more than 5 mins of care. Whoever designed this set up is an idiot. Also make sure you check your portal after you leave without being seen. Urine was sent off for drug testing and blood was sent for BAC after I left. Baptist Hospital is a nightmare especially neurosurgery they have one MA for all the surgeons don't have enough PA's either I stood right there and watched and listened long enough to see why .... The surgeons are very disrespectful and I'm calling out Brett Reichwage on this one as long as your a potential repeat patient he will treat you like your the best thing that ever lived but as soon as he sees that your no longer a candidate for another surgery (more money) he becomes rude, hateful and tries to get rid of you kick you to the curb well I'm not going to disappear or back down not that easy the surgery I just had after surgery on 11-4-24 possible was because of a error on his part and he tried to get me in surgery ASAP when the CT came back acting like he cared and was concerned when the fracture was discovered but it was about him covering his tracks with no explanation as to why he's not treating my post op pain and I'm now fused from T11-my pelvis new hardware too I have a fractured sacrum that occurred after surgery in November now I'm here with no adequate pain medication my pharmacist of 30 plus years told me they lost their supplier and were out of several medications that I am using and it would take a few months to find another one and to switch to another pharmacy until they get all the medications back in stock so I switched to Scott's Pharmacy and at times after being in the hospital or after an appt with neurosurgery I asked if they could send the prescriptions to the Tower Pharmacy thought it would save time and we could leave and go straight home my appt on 2-20-25 with Jennifer Ramsey PA to remove the staples from my incision is from T11-S-2 with rods screws etc in my pelvic bones plus the fracture is still there yesss I'm in a lot of pain and Reichwage is refusing to treat my pain he was so rude to me on Thursday when I spoke to him as he walked past me because he's performed 5 surgeries on my back he's made all the money he can off of me I'm gathering all X-rays MRI's and CT scan reports too and I have two other surgeons I'm sending them to one in Miami one In Atlanta for second opinions I could've listened and had the fracture treated with the injection of bone cement and never had this surgery Until Drs stand up and say enough no more the system will stay broken read more

Two stars because some of the doctors and nurses are amazing (but that handful can't handle all the workload.) The new hospital is truly beautiful and well constructed too!! HOWEVER The communication between nurses and doctors is utterly pathetic and borderline dangerous and reckless. Either give the nurses more authority to make decisions or get more of the doctors to approve things faster and at least act like they care in urgent/critical situations. Again, there are some incredible staff but then there are some that don't seem to care at all about patient comfort and care. Disappointed overall will try Sacred Heart for future emergencies. read more

My mom was admitted to Baptist Hospital, 10th floor with complications of colon cancer. She also has A-Fib. For 14 days, she didn't get nor was offered a bed bath nor a shower...14 days. Nursing staff never knew WHY she was there...they would "round" every shift and always had to ask why she was there. On about day 8, she had an emergency colostomy performed because her colon was about to rupture due to the cancer. (excellent surgeon). When she got back to her room at 8P from recovery room, the nurse didn't come to check her in until 9:30pm and that was only because I called her to do so. So for the cruicial time after surgery, my mom didn't have an IV going and wasn't hooked up to telemetry (to monitor her heart). I called them to come to see about her at 8:50P and they didn't come in until 9:20P. The day prior to the surgery, her thighs and lower legs were extremely swollen. She had been getting Lasix prior to surgery, however, when she went to NPO status, they stopped giving it. She put on 30 lbs. of water weight. She weighed 98 lbs on admission, and by the time they started back the Lasix, she was at 130 lbs. She was complaining of inability to breathe...instead of looking for the "root cause" of why she couldn't breathe, they put her on Oxygen. She was weak, couldn't turn herself in the bed, couldn't sit up, couldn't walk. After restarting Lasix, it took 4 days for her to get that weight off and she left the hospital at 92 lbs. The average age of the nurses was I'd say less than 30 years. old. NONE of them had any experience and NONE of them seemed to know a thing about nursing care. When wound care came to change the colostomy bag with a student in tow, she just threw the covers off my mom, leaving her completely exposed and feeling humiliated. I am an RN myself and I've never seen such a sorry staff in my entire life. I worked at Baptist for many years, yet I will NEVER go there again. My mom was also a nurse at Baptist. And it doesn't stop with nursing staff: her room wasn't cleaned once for an entire week. The ONLY reason it got cleaned was because my sister called and complianed. Filthy room, floor wasn't mopped, bedside table not wiped down unless I did it, and the bedding wasn't changed unless I did it. Food was also horendous. It's as if dietary doesn't have a clue about what to feed elderly people...hard egg rolls, tough chicken, and everything ALWAYS cold...ALWAYS. She was discharged from Baptist unable to walk more than 10 feet with a walker and was then exhausted. She was admitted to Life Care Center on a Wednesday afternoon and by Friday was up with a walker for 100 feet. Baptist Hospital nearly killed my mother...another couple of days there and they wouldn't suceeded in doing just that. They may have a shiny new facade, but the staff inside is worse than ever. read more

Wish I could give NEGATIVE star! IDK about the main hospital, but the ER IS THE WORST I'VE EVER BEEN TO! I was very sick with the flu for 2 weeks, taking forever to get well, then felt it going into my lungs, have big history of bronchitis. On 2/8/25 I went to ER at 8pm. I'm an elderly disabled woman with a very bad back. Sat in the ER for over 8 hours & never got CLOSE to being seen! During that time, only 2 or 3 patients were ever called back!! I asked a guy, do you even have any doctors working here?? "Oh yeah, there's a lot of them" I was told. VERY RUDE STAFF! I complained to a medical staffer & was rudely told "Sacred Heart is right down the street." That SAME guy, a bit later, was literally PHYSICALLY THREATENING an old man in the waiting room! For what I don't know. After 8+ hours of NOTHING MOVING & my back in agony, I said, screw this, I'm going home. Told the guy at the door, take me off the list, I'm leaving. I said I don't know what the problem is, but this place is absolutely HORRIBLE! He said the problem was THERE WAS NO STAFF!! On a Saturday night! Said they couldn't take patients back cuz there was NO place to put them, as no one in ER was being admitted to hospital or discharged!! DO NOT GO TO THIS E.R.!!!! The easy scheduling is a joke. Instead of scheduling my lung and ultrasound, they sent me an email to self schedule. So I tried and it listed mammogram and baby care as my things to schedule!! I am a 75 year old man with not babies or boobs. So I waited almost an hour to talk to someone. read more

They can not even schedule an appointment with a refferal and insurance. Never in my life have I seen a medical facility do everything in their power to not schedule an appointment for someone. That is exactly what Sabrina in gastro and her office manager Jessica have done. Don't ask to speak to anyone else about the matter because they can't transfer the call to their boss. This is absurd. Yes I have insurance so not sure as to why. Never would give an answer as to why I couldn't get an appointment scheduled in a 3 week time frame. I would not trust Baptist medical with the care of ants at this point. I would seriously rethink having my staff work by voicemail like they do at the gulf breeze, fl. The hospital was so dirty. I even took pictures. The person put his name on chart as the janitor service, they use a different name, but all he did was emptying the trash can and left. I have pictures of a very very dirty floor and a noth horrible issues and worse in the restrooms. All the people were great. read more

My father is currently in the new Baptist hospital. Excellent care and patient advocacy at the Gulf breeze location before he was transferred to the Main hospital. He had a heart cath and is to receive another procedure but he states the hospitalist was less than hospitable and told him that he did not have any pain, and the nursing care he has received this far has been non existent. No patient should ever be told that they are not having pain when they say that they are. And an updated availability of contact numbers to actually call and report these things as they occur might be nice. read more

I visited Baptist Emergency room by ambulance on October27 w/ severe pain in my upper back, neck, shoulders, chest and I was unable to use my right arm. I first sat in the waiting room for a great period of time then was taken to a room where I sat for hours mind you still in severe pain they gave me fluids took some test then sent me home after being diagnosed with Rhabdomyolysis which is a serious condition. And prescribed me naproxen which did absolutely less than nothing for my pain. The staff was absolutely terrible everyone acted as if I was their problem. Something has to be done about this place. I spent an hour with a registrar who actually said she didn't know what the issue was, that she just worked there. The day before a scheduled procedure I was on the phone all day with several nurses and other staff to assure my procedure went well. "Someone" failed to get prior authorization for said procedure and no one contacted me about it. No accountability. Not a place or people I'd trust with my health. read more

Since last November (2022) I've complained to (6) doctors that I am very sick and believe I have a heart condition, as my entire family suffers with heart disease. I've been treated for a non-existent stomach condition called GERD for many months, and on October 3, 2023, I received my first heart stent. They did recently have me wear a 24 hour heart monitor, but they never turned it on. With few exceptions, they don't listen to the patient, they do what the insurance will pay for. To add insult to injury, an office employee marked my file as uninsured and delayed treatment of any kind for months, even after I met with the insurance manager and Office manager and provided a statement from my insurance company I had continuous coverage. If you choose this health care system, it's imperative you be your OWN ADVOCATE....and be prepared, when you dare to question or disagree with staff, YOU will be labeled the problem. read more

Stayed in the emergency room waiting area for 8 hours last night. It was SO cold..I ask one of the guards why so cold...said, " they rent it out to hang meat." I would give a negative 100000 if allowed. Went to Baptist Med Group ( airport location) and every single time it has been TERRIBLE!! But I needed a pcp so I stuck it out. The staff is rude and providers are even more rude and unprofessional!!! They are always in a hurry to go and EXTREMELY slow to return calls. Last message I left had a nurse call back over a week latter! Communication is almost non existent. I can only assume it's cause lack or caring or laziness! Today was final day for me as I got a bill for labs where once again they filled the wrong insurance!! I went to baptist 3 times in 2 week period. And EVERY time made sure to provide my new card and ask they update information! To which they replied they had. And now , I get another bill where they filled an insurance I don't have and failed to update my current insurance!! So I call to ask them to please correct it and ask if I can speak with a manager to which I was passed from call to call cause nobody knew who I could speak to or where they was located. I think me giving them my new card on THREE separate occasions should have been able for at least ONE person to do their job but NO!!! I am DONE with Baptist !! They are either inept or lazy. Let me preface this with the nurses deserve 5 stars. Unfortunately, the rest of the experience was very poor. I even contacted patient advocacy and never heard from them. I filed a complaint and was told someone would be back in touch with me. It wasn't until four days later, when I called back and said I would post on every website about the facility did someone call me back. While I thought that person was going to help. They did nothing. If they passed the information to the doctor, the doctor never acknowledged it. My daughter had to have a procedure at the hospital. She is on palliative care who recommended the course of treatment, which she ignored. The doctor gave wrong information to PT/OT. The subsequent doctors that came in, never read the chart. It was obvious by the questions they asked. Example, what color is it? The patient is blind. They asked her about her reaction to a couple of medications. One made her very ill, they other made her have feelings of suicide (which is a side effect). Guess what medications they were discharging her with? We used to go to Sacred Heart all the time, but they declined in care. So six years ago, we went to Baptist for any needs, it was much better. I preferred the care before they moved to this building. My daughter has a very rare condition. The nurses looked up her condition. The doctors did not. The new facilities are very nice, however, the care has declined from what it was at the old location. I was air lifted to Baptist hospital treated ok until they found out i had no insurance. I had fractured ribes torn ligament in my wrist and fractured hand i continually complained about trouble breathing could only walk 50 feet after 4 days in exstream pain. I was coughing up green flem from my lungs complaining about the increased pain and choking on this flem and trouble breathing asked them to please check my lungs thir is somthing wrong please. I was told i had no insurance and i was being discharged. I told them i cant walk i have no one at home and still struggling to breathe. They called security force fully removed me from the bed injuring me more when i fell as they forced me into the wheel chair and security forced me and staff out of the hospital. The next day i could barely breath went to perdio emergency and they informed me both of my lungs were filled with pneumonia i guess i would of died of pneumonia lucky my nephew came and found me struggling to breath and took me to perdio emergency i have never been treated in such a cruel way ever in my life. They tried to kill me and never checked my lungs after repeatedly asking them. I need to know were to file a complaint read more

Baptist business office has by far the most rude people I have ever dealt with over the phone. I had an issue with them billing me instead of my adult son so I called to get the situation rectified. The older lady was loud, rude, and condescending and the most unprofessional person I've come across to date. After she told me some misinformation (which I later found out from insurance company) she stated she was a Veteran wife and she knew what she was talking about then hung up on me.
