I had a total right hip replacement at Baptist Hospital this last week. From the start to finish when I went home I felt I had amazing care. The nurses, OR team, anesthesiologist, after care team, PT, and especially Dr. Mayes (from Andrews Institute) who performed the operation. I moved here from Raleigh, NC where I had a left hip replacement and had incredible medical care and I was beyond nervous to switch surgeons and hospitals. However, they went above and beyond my expectations. I'd not hesitate to have joint replacement surgery here. Their entire team was wonderful. read more

I was out and did not take my BP Medicine and had to be transported to the Hospital and in the ambulance Courtney was so helpful, I had to request that they were patient, kind, and how to treat a physically handicapped person. My time to the ER visit was the 4 hours and 10 minutes and I had blood work and ua done but all I needed was a small pill that I left home without. My heart rate was perfusely high because of my condition of hyperglycemia and I was going through it. Smoked only a half of Organic Hemp and waited in a ER room for it to work and left there walking. No powerchair, No walker, no blood pressure medication. SEVERAL CONDITIONS; NO TREATMENT. I ONLY WONDER IF THEY ARE GOING TO DO THE RIGHT THING WHEN IT COMES TO BILLING MY INSURANCE? Do not go here! This place WILL KILL YOU! My son went in with pain in his stomach and waited hours and hours in the waiting room. We ended up leaving and going to Sacred Heart where they rushed him into surgery to remove his appendix removed. They said it was about to rupture and got to it just in time. Then, to make matters worse, they sent us a bill for $800 to wait in their waiting room. What a joke! All 3 of my kids were born at the old Baptist and I have had good luck at their old facility but this new place is terrible. The room is in bad shape. Broken tiles and a leaking faucet in the bathroom, peeling paint and active wasp nests on the window. I m ow that BHC is building a new campus, apparently the maintenance and upkeep budget has been zeroed out for construction. Patient service is abysmal too. My mother (80 year old heart patient) can't even get an aide to assist her with personal hygiene! Apparently clean patients aren't paying patients. Very disappointing. Baptist has gone way down hill. If at all possible, find some other hospital. read more

They spent all this money on the new building and when people are in the ER they can't even be put in a room . What is the problem ? Baptist Medical Hospital as owner of Gulf Breeze Hospital help them cover up a doctor error on me that resulted in me almost dying. The "drug addicted" fresh back from rehab, unknown to me, operated attempted to burn TWO ablations in parts of my neck. Not only did I succumb to a Grand Male Seizure ,but I was rushed out of recovery room into a waiting car, before I has my wits about me. After having multiple other highly qualified doctors review my operating notes, they told me in fact that two ablations being done on your neck at the same time is UNHEARD OF!! Multiple complaints were made to Andrews Institute his employer at the time, to chief of surgery at G.B. Hospital , and the RISK MANAGEMENT GROUP at Baptist, whom told me since they had fired the doctor they could not assist me at all . I made several trips to Risk Management and was rudely intimidated and quietly showed out the door. They had no interest in my near death experience by one of their doctors. This review is for the NEW Bear Baptist Hospital. I thought I would give them a 2nd chance being that they were new. Nothing has changed but fresh paint! I had a severe kidney infection and they sent me home knowing I would not be able to keep meds down being that a symptom of a kidney infection is throwing up. They did not know I had tricare so they treated me like nothing. And had the nerve to ask me to come back after they learned!! Never!! Stay away from this hospital. I am currently at the ER with my fiancé. The reason for the rating is not necessarily that the staff or medical care is horrible. The reason is that I am deeply concerned that my fiancé was approached upon admission to the ER with a request to pay her insurance deductible. My fiancé is covered by insurance and works for the school system. She will have some sort of deductible of course but is covered and this IS A TRUE EMERGENCY she was admitted for. She was brought in by her employer ( who had an on-site MD recommend Emergency care immediately) for a symptomatic hypertensive emergency where her systolic pressure was above 180 and she said she thought she lost consciousness. We are not opposed to paying our deductible of course; we are however opposed to someone being approached in an emergency situation where they may not be completely alert and oriented and told they are going to owe 400.00 and how would you like to pay. My fiancé was scared, confused, and shocked in an emergency situation and so gave them her credit card on the spot as she did not know if she would receive good care if not. This action of asking an emergency room admitted patient whom was having neurological signs and symptoms that could affect decision making for the money to cover a deductible is not only unethical, but likely illegal. She is now being admitted to the neurological floor as they said she did in fact have a stroke. But she need not worry since they took payment on entrance to the ER as she was having it. My boyfriend was seen for sun poisoning. Now, I understand it's not that big of an emergency as to others but it was to the point he was screaming in pain. He can't sleep, can't do anything due to being in greater pain. We went to this ER because it is the closest, as we are not from this area, we have not heard of any facilities around us and don't know the positives or negatives of any facility around us. Was just rushing to get treatment. They seemed to care about their patients, some what, when we were there. Nice janitors and security asking if we needed anything. After being in the hospital room for awhile he was given a shot and medications, then he was discharged. Fast forward to a few hours later. He's in pain again. Can't sleep. Tossing and turning. Nothing is helping. I call the ER, transferred to staff. Okay, cool. Female staff member answers and interrupts me asking what the name of the patient was. The name was given and I was put on hold. Waiting.. waiting.. then finally picks up saying he was discharged. Right! I am asking if there was anything he could take to help with the pain or to help him sleep. She tells me to wait. I wait for 10 minutes. I was put on hold, then someone picked up, then put on hold again. And it went like this for a few minutes. Someone answered and said "hello? Wait I am going to put you on hold again" Few minutes later and I get "it's a sun burn, it's gonna hurt. Alternate between Tylenol and Motrin" Very hateful female I spoke with on the phone. Will never return there. I don't recommend this place due to the rudeness, unprofessional staff member and the unwillingness to help a patient professionally. read more

I was directed by the VA to go to the ER for extreme abdominal pain. You know when you go, you're in for a long ride. I just wanted my pain relieved, so I was patient and I knew the nine hours I spent there wasn't the fault of the staff as it got really busy. I'm giving four stars because of how nice most of the staff were. My first Nurse was amazing. He was caring, compassionate, kept checking on me and apologizing, and he was getting yelled at by a lot of people. When shift change happened and the next nurse, Gilbert came in, he was awful. He acted like I shouldn't have even come in. When it became apparent that I didn't have a life threatening problem, I was relieved, and knew I needed to be discharged. I did expect to be told what the problem. Was and what medications I was being given. I asked Gilbert if I needed to wait to speak to the doctor, his response was "Well, he's tied up with, you know, people who are actually dying." I was just shocked. I asked if he knew what prescriptions I was being given and he said he didn't know and would have to look it up, but he was drowning in a sea of his own problems. I get that I didn't need emergency surgery or anything, but you don't know until you have tests done and I was told to go. I don't want to take away from the rest of the staff and how nice they were, but they should all know that Gilbert is the weak link and he either needs training or he needs to find another profession where compassion is not required. They call me this morning asking questions, I answer yes to 2 questions, I have had a headache and post nasal drip, caused by my sinus infection, now they want to test me for COVID,, I do not have COVID no fever, was just in last month for blood work, which they have not even had the courtesy to call me about that, but they have sure billed me for that... My mother had surgery at baptist hospital. They kept me informed and comfortable while she was under anesthesia. However, we had a wonderful discharge nurse named Cindy. She didn't just hand me papers and walk away. She read thru every bit of the instructions of how to care for my mother after her surgery. After getting home and getting my mom settled my phone rang. It was the nurse Cindy, she stated she forgot to give me some paperwork that gave the serial number to my moms hearing aid implant. She asked me if my address was the one we had on file. I confirmed and she took the liberty to leave her shift and come to my home and bring us that missing paperwork. But she also evaluated mom and made sure she was ok and her bandage was in correctly. What an absolute wonderful experience!!! 10/10 recommend to anyone. read more

I was recently there overnight and had outstanding service from Baptist Hospital. Baptist Hospital has been my go to hospital for over 69 years being born there as well. I had two children ther, surgeries etc there. This last time I was highly disappointed in the food there. I know it's not a hotel but each time I have been there the food was decent enough I could eat it. This trip I couldn't eat a thing. Yes the room was so old and I couldn't wait to leave. The care was excellen. I know BH is moving to a new facility with all new equipment and I am so glad. it's past time but my concern is the food will not get any better. I know food is not the same in the hospital as you get in a good restaurant but nourishment is important and if it's not presentable or somewhat appetizing it won't be eaten. I hope with the new hospital they get a new spin on food. It was the very worst I have ever had at Baptist. But a shout out to the staf.. still great care and service from Drs , nurses, and all.Thank you. read more

To add to the other numerous and intelligent 1-start reviews: Upon my visit to Baptist Hospital ER for severe stomach problems, the following occurred: 1. Upon attempting to use the bathroom, I found a thick coating of urine and hair on the toilet seat. After attempting to clean it up myself, I found I couldn't do it without getting it on my hands, so I went out to inform the nurses who, sitting, on their phones, did nothing for me but direct me to a different bathroom down the hall. I don't know when or if they ultimately contacted the cleaning staff to address the problem. 2. When I received an IV for fluids, the nurse did a horrid job. My veins are prominent, but even after I complained of the pain after the fluids were finished, the nurse refused to take out the needle. Even after the doctor had said I would need no more IV fluids, the nurses took about a half hour to get the needle out of my arm. For months afterwards I had pain where the needle had been. In addition, another nurse grabbed my facemask without gloves or without washing her hands and thrust a thermometer in my mouth. 3. The doctor, Edler Rayme MD, saw me for approximately 20 minutes of collective face-to-face time. Pensacola Emergency Physicians, LLC--for whom she worked and through whom Baptist Hospital contracted her and others to operate part of their emergency room--initially billed me $1,180 for their services alone. (The hospital bill is separate.) 4. For a run-of-the-mill anti-nausea medicine, for a run-of-the-mill analgesic, for an IV with fluids, and for a diagnosis--all of which could have been provided to me for a fraction of the cost in any civilized country--my insurance company and I were billed around $3,225 + my $300 co-pay. Now, if I had not had insurance either a) I would have been pretty unlucky to have been billed personally around $3,525 for services which a competent medical intern could have provided for me, or b) if I did not have the money, Baptist Hospital probably would have written off the amount as "uncompensated care" to reduce the total amount of gross profit it makes a year. Hospital administrators routinely receive multiple 6-figure compensations and bonuses based on the total amount of revenue generated. 5. Knowing good and well (while I was projectile vomiting) that I signed a document upon being admitted into the ER that said, in short, that if I did not pay my bill that it would empower Baptist Hospital to force me to pay for their recovery efforts (including lawyer fees), I wanted to be finished with this nightmare, pay what I felt was an exorbitant bill, and be through with them. So, I had informed one of their hospital representatives in writing on March 13, 2018 that I had not received a bill. On May 3, the billing department left me what I considered to be an intimidating message to call them; I did so, and they wanted to know why I hadn't paid my bill. I learned that Baptist Hospital had sent me two bills, one on April 11 and one on April 23, TO THE WRONG ADDRESS, not even my address at the time of the ER visit. It's curious how when I paid the $300 co-pay, the hospital employee was quick to ensure that she had the correct billing address then. Here the hospital has the power to hurt my credit, hurt me financial, should I not pay the bill on time, and I end up having to ask them repeatedly to be able to pay it. Even into the month of June, the issue still unresolved, one of the administrators finally did admit their error on their part and apologized. If you believe in fair and transparent services and billing--including indicating the estimated charges of ER services and other medical treatment--I recommend you reach out to your Florida State Senators to require these hospitals to provide a good-faith estimate for what the average cost would be for any given service when a patient first arrives at the ER. For those living in Escambia County, your Senator is Doug Broxson (850) 595-1036. Unless Florida wishes to receive further national notoriety as providing inferior health care and high health care costs [Florida is no longer in the top four states to retire: https://www.kiplinger.com/article/retirement/T006-C000-S001-florida-8-best-state-to-retire-in-2018.html]--something which will dissuade future retirees from coming to this state--action needs to be taken. I've been going to the Baptist Hospital for healthcare for years now but COVID brought the worst out in healthcare. My provider is in the second tower. Usually the girls at check in when coming into the Suite are good but this time around they were rude, didn't acknowledge patients when walking in the door, and made no mention of being right with them even with nobody at their window. I was positive they do this on purpose just to show you who's in control. It's humiliating and degrading. I get to the window and was interrogated on this COVID stuff. "Have you had the shot?? Are you planning on getting the shot?? Have you been tested?? When have you last been tested?? Do you have these symptoms??" Wow. And if that wasn't bad enough, we were handed paperwork regarding those questions in order to sign not even mentioning what we were signing. I had to ask. After we answered them, I felt like a huge rubber stamp went down on the paperwork that would be flagged later in a secret database because we're one of "those" types of people that hasn't rushed in to get the COVID vaccination yet. So, I sat there and listened to the second gal that was taking patients at her window while I was waiting for my family member to finish their appt. There was no interrogation and no asking if they had the vaccination, etc. I actually thought immediately when we checked in that it was NONE of the gal's business. That's a personal medical question that I shouldn't have had to give her and I could kick myself for doing so. So, why did the other gal not bother to ask the same questions and this one rogue employee feel it her duty to do this type of interrogation to every single patient that came to her window? That question is for Baptist Hospital if you're reading this. Your employees have NO right to ask this question of their patients. Consider this a complaint. read more

The ER is awesome at Pensacola Hospital. I feel sorry for them because they have to deal with so many drug addicts, over people who have real problems. Was there twice this month with a real problems this month and there was one lady sitting in the corner so high on something. What a shame that real people with real problems had to wait longer because of them. The nurses were great and the doctor had blood work done right away. WOW I had a similar experience at Baptist Hospital. A few years ago, I had rotator cuff surgery. The surgery was late in the afternoon so the doctor decided I should stay overnight. During the night, I needed the assistance of a nurse. A male nurse came into the room and the first thing he said was "you'll have to throw modesty out the window." I asked, "what do you mean I have to throw modesty out the window!" He did not answer but proceeded to take the sheet off me and opened my gown and I too was naked. I was in shock and could not believe this was happening at a hospital. This was a male nurse. I would have been upset if it had been a female nurse but the male nurse was even worse. There was absolutely no reason for the male nurse to open my gown. The assistance I needed did not involve the necessity of me being completely nude. I had assumed that while you were in your hospital room nurses were more considerate and would not put me in an embarrassing or compromised position. Certainly no one had ever done that before. There was no one else in the room, it was late at night and it was only me and the male nurse. I made every attempt to cover myself to no avail. When the male nurse left the room, I rang for another nurse. I explained the situation to her, she requested that I explain the situation to the head nurse, I did. The next morning I was released. During the follow up appointment with the doctor, I told him what had happened at the hospital. He left the examination room while I was there and I could hear him outside the exam room talking to someone at the hospital. He told the person that I had been "sexually assaulted" during my overnight stay. A hospital administrator later called to discuss the situation with me. I told her exactly what had happened. She apologized and stated she would look into the situation and that ended the conversation. I never heard anymore from Baptist Hospital. I've often wondered what course of action the hospital took but was never told if there was anything done at all to the male nurse. Based on what you've written, I guess nothing was done. It was just business as usual. Your story reminded me of the horror I experienced with a Baptist Hospital male nurse. These kinds of assaults may be ignored and considered business as usual by Baptist but I can tell you I was traumatized and the trauma has been long lasting. I agree, if intentional exposure of a patient's nudity by a hospital employee is not covered by HIPPA, it should be. Being unnecessarily made nude by a nurse is definitely a violation of a persons's privacy and decency. If it happened to us, there must be more similar situations experienced by other patients and I hope others speak up. read more

I was an inpatient at Baptist hospital for 5 days in June 2020. During the stay I was on oxygen and had an attachment to my legs to regulate blood flow. Because I was attached to both the regulator and oxygen I needed assistance to go to the bathroom. I asked for assistance and when the nurse/assistant came to help me to the bathroom she immediately opened the hospital gown which left me nude. She then started detaching the regulator, because there was no need for my gown to be open I closed the gown to cover my nudity. Once the nurse/assistant detached the regulator she again open the gown and exposed my nudity. I saw no reason to be nude so I again closed the gown. The nurse/assistant looked down at me and stated "do you want to go to the bathroom" I replied "yes, detach the oxygen and I can go". She asked me three times and looked directly at the closed gown. Because I would not go to the bathroom with the gown open and my nudity exposed she left the room without taking me to the bathroom. I had already gone to the bathroom other times with the gown completely covering my nudity but with this nurse/assistant she would not take me to the bathroom without the gown open. When the nurse/assistant first open the gown and exposed my nudity I looked into the hall and was embarrassed by the public nudity caused by the nurse/assistant. I discussed the problem with the nurse that followed the offensive nurse. I also discussed the problem with my doctor. To me, leaving me nude and the door to the room open was a violation of decency, privacy and a complete embarrassment to me. If there is such a thing as HIPA, exposed nudity should be at the top of that list. I made ever effort to keep the gown closed and made it known to the nurse/assistant that I intended to keep the gown closed. I also made a formal complaint to Baptist Hospital. I received a letter in response to my complaint. The Governance, Risk & Compliance at Baptist Hospital response was basically, that is normal procedure and the problem was that the "team member did not properly communicate what interaction they would be doing" Governance also stated that there was another team member present outside the room. This was a lie; because I was left nude and embarrassed I looked out the opened door and there was no team member outside the door. I can't imagine that any patient would accept being unnecessarily exposed nude. I am extremely angry at the interaction with the nurse/assistant and the response by the Governance, Risk & Compliance at Baptist Hospital. If you have plans to bepatient at Baptist Hospital beware this may happen to you because Baptist Hospital believes this is normal practice. If I could give a negative -5 or worse rating, I would have done that. read more

Their emergency room service are terrible and should not be allowed to even be running. We waited over 2 hours with only one person of the 4 initially there being called back. There were a few ladies that had come in the day before and waited from 9-530 with never being called back or updated and finally had to leave. The triage nurse and cold and the whole atmosphere is just a dive. If you need help, don't go here. They obviously don't care one bit. I have no idea how or why they're even open.
