I've seen all of the reviews on this spot and I have nothing bad to say. The oysters was hitting and had size to them. I went on a big back sample spree and the food was definitely tasty. My waiter was Asia and she was friendly and attentive. I also met the boss man "G" and he is a very down to earth person and takes time to chat with his customers. It sits in a plaza down off Highway 42. There located on the end of the plaza, allowing them to have a cute little deck area. They have some nice Happy Hour specials.... Once inside, you will be plently surprised. It is really cute, lot bigger than it looks from the outside, and they have great lighting... not all that sexy dimmed lighting, alot of these bars be having. I sat at the bar, my only complaint would be there bar sits up to high for my liking, didn't make eating there comfortable. The seating was pretty comfortable though. There is a second side, that is a vibe in it self. The staff was really nice and our bartenders had high energy and great personality. The first thing I ordered was a hookah. It got taken back multiple times because it didn't work, and every time it came back it still didn't work. I finally managed to rig it enough to get a couple of weak hits before I was just over it. Then y'all said you were out of glasses for the lemon drops, but somehow other drinks were coming out in martini glasses. So what, the whole place only has four martini glasses? And your solution was to take the hookah off the bill? The hookah that was still completely full because it never worked? That's all you could do? We even ordered more drinks because we were trying to give y'all a chance to fix the situation. Then you have the nerve to act like we were just trying to get out of paying. No, we were trying to support your business and let you make it right. You didn't take accountability then, and your response now shows you still don't. And let's be honest. The place was empty as heck. There was a table of ladies behind us, one couple on a date, and a few people who walked in. I'm guessing they found out half the menu wasn't available and left. Sir, there were maybe ten people in the whole restaurant. Come on. If you don't know how to order inventory and keep your business stocked, just say that. I really hate leaving negative reviews, especially for Black-owned businesses, because I genuinely want to see them thrive. But accountability is part of good business. Our visit to Bar 42 felt like an episode of "Guess What's Out of Stock?" It seemed like every other thing we ordered was unavailable. Then came the hookah... except it never actually hookahed. It was completely full because it never worked. We mentioned the issue, then explained it again... and then again... to three different people before the owner finally came over. Instead of an apology, we were told we should have complained sooner. So apparently explaining the same problem to three employees doesn't count as complaining? The resolution? They removed the non-working hookah from the bill, which seems less like a favor and more like charging people only for things that actually function. We also had issues with our drinks, but those concerns were brushed aside. And can we talk about the chicken wings? I've seen more meat on a toothpick. Whoever seasoned those little emotional support wings deserves better ingredients. The most disappointing part wasn't the food or the broken hookah, it was the communication. Rather than listening, the conversation quickly turned into making us feel like we were trying to get something for free. The owner's response of, "If you order food, you're going to have to pay for it," was completely unnecessary because no one was trying to avoid paying. We were asking for a dining experience that matched what we paid for. Speaking of paying... the automatic gratuity of over 20% plus a service fee added up to more than $70. With fees like that, I'd expect the service and customer experience to be just as premium. I don't mind spending money for a great experience. I do mind paying premium prices for broken equipment, unavailable menu items, tiny wings, poor communication, and being blamed for problems we repeatedly tried to address. TLDR: Way too loud, dangerously so. I don't recommend. Bar 42 is a club/lounge masquerading as a restaurant. I came on a Friday around 7:30pm and as soon as we sat down we commented that the music was loud. And it only got louder throughout our dinner. It's frustrating when you can't hear the person sitting across from you or even your waitress. There's no way your waitress should have to yell to take your order. If OSHA came, Bar 42 would absolutely get a citation for employee overexposure to loud noise. I was told they like a "turn up" vibe on the weekend which is fine, I'm all for having fun, but this was ridiculous and frankly unsafe for a small place. All 3 people in my party were uncomfortable and just wanted to finish quickly. The food itself was mixed. I had the catfish and grits. The catfish was good although small. But the grits were extremely bland, no one bit of seasoning. My husband tasted them and was shocked. He ordered the seafood pasta and said it was "regular", enjoyable but nothing crazy. Our friend got a burger and said similarly that it was decent. Unfortunately, our food came at totally different times so they were nearly done eating by the time I got mine. No paying to get in, no paying to park, just come on in and be seated right away. There were a lot of servers that spoke, or took direct care of me. The music hit just right as we decided on our happy hour treats . $3.95 Oy'sters Rockefeller called out to me and I answered. $5 lemon drops are a great way to wash away the edge from the days work grind. Topped off the tasting with the $5 lamb chops which were flavorful but definitely tiny. Crispy Brussel sprouts were had to round off the meal. The food itself wasn't terrible, but the menu was misleading enough to affect the experience. Items were described in a way that didn't match what was served, which was surprising and disappointing. We came here to celebrate my friend's birthday. We decided to order a glass of red wine and a " Hookah", as so we thought. Without being informed by the server, that it was an electric hookah / vape, she brought it to the table and I was so confused but its was showing that is was on 40%. At that point, we just wanted to give it the benefit of the doubt, so we ordered another hose, so we both can smoke the " VAPE". Just for us to find out from the manager that only one person can smoke the " Vape " at a time. At that point the " VAPE" was on 38%, so we explained to the manager that we didn't want it any more because it wasn't what we expected. She claimed it was nothing she can do besides charge it since " we smoked it already" , so we left it alone. After we left both me and my friends were sick from the " hookah", remind you we only had one glass of red wine so we knew it was the " Vape" we were service. Decided to come into this place on a whim and was pleasantly surprised. Great food, very attentive customer service and great ambience. Food: The snapper, greens and mashed potatoes were a 10/10. It was actually REAL mashed potatoes and REAL greens and not greens from a can. The bang bang shrimp was also a 10/10 for me. Super hot when it came out and the sauce was excellent. Not gross and mayo-ey like other bang bang sauces I've had. Drinks: The old fashioned was good standard no frills old fashioned. The drink with the flower in it is th "let's get cozy" and I loved it! Fruity and sweet with a generous pour. The rum in this was very good and I would buy it again. Customer service: With this being a newer place sometimes the staff is not super knowledge.
