Stopped in for a second time, with two years in between sittings. Having thought the fish tacos were great the last time, we risked ordering them again (so rare to find repeatable excellence) ...pleasantly surprised to say we were presented exactly what we had remembered. Stopped by this spot twice before and after camping at Newall Creek Reservoir. Both meals I had were high quality and I especially enjoyed the smash burger which was actually smashed (unlike some other "smash" burgers I've had in MT). Service was friendly although the second visit the server did mix up a number of things for my friends order. Good vibes and clean bathroom. Folks were even singing along to the country tunes jamming from a bluetooth speaker and we met some nice folks heading to a motorcycle rally. read more

I hate to do this because I used to love this place. We've been coming here for many years and it was always fantastic. However things have changed.... Portions shrank significantly and prices sky rocketed. Paid $14 for a very small margarita and I tasted absolutely no booze in it. We asked what was on draft and was told the list and we ordered an ipa only for the gal to tell us they didn't have either ipa. So why even name them?! Was really looking forward to nachos to find out there were no chips available. Seems like an easy fix given the store is right next door. Im giving 2 stars for the servers because they were sweet and attentive. Otherwise it would've been a solid 1 star. As for the price gouging, do better. I know things aren't cheap anymore, but that was pretty ridiculous. Go to Jesse peppers. read more

We stopped in on a quiet Friday evening for dinner. No one greeted us so we found ourselves a table. Our server was pleasant but not particularly friendly or helpful. Our table of 5 ordered the Bar 47 nachos, the steak street tacos, and a bacon cheese burger. The burger was reportedly "great"! The tacos were fantastic, albeit very messy to eat. The nachos, however, were so sloppy and saucy that no one really loved them. We couldn't decide what was making them so soggy: queso (not listed as an ingredient so we weren't sure if that was the "blend of cheeses"), the BBQ sauce, or the chipotle aioli?! Side note: the soda (Sprite) was awful. Perhaps they mix the syrup with the water from the hot springs? It was nasty. I don't think I can support this bar anymore because a friend of mine and I stopped in for lunch and drinks. We ordered a margarita and a beer. The margarita was terrible and small. The price was $14. After choking the terrible margarita down we decided to try a Moscow , which was equally as bad. He bartender obviously had no idea how to mix a drink. We enjoyed a lovely evening at Bar 47 last night (December 13, 2023). We reserved a table for 8 for a birthday dinner and it was ready when we arrived. Our server was Dre (like the singer). She was a delight and featured heavily in our enjoyment of the evening. Even with a bum foot (in a cast) she was 5 STARS, all alone... just Dre... doing her thing. There was a gentleman playing guitar and singing... and a gingerbread house decorating contest going on while we were there. Very warm and festive atmosphere. We all got a drink and shared appetizers before our mains. All were good and the selection of drinks and apps was good. The caramel fries with shards of crisp bacon drizzled on top were really good... as were the chips with 3 different bowls of dips (guac, melty cheese and salsa). Our food arrived at the temperature that it was supposed to be (i.e. cold salads, warm burgers, etc.). I ordered the chicken sandwich with avocado and bacon. I asked for my bacon to be well done (burnt if possible). I've asked for this a million times over the course of my lifetime and I'm typically disappointed. I want to go on record saying that the bacon was PERFECTLY CRISP. Imagine my delight (if you can). So good. There were a couple of different desserts that came in mini-cast iron skillets with ice cream on top. We got the giant cookie (covered the bottom of the skillet) topped with ice cream, topped with YAY! Very good. And, there are about 6 different adult milk shakes. I had the grasshopper one. Not enough alcohol to give you a buzz or anything, but it was really good. Recommend. So, if you are in White Sulper Springs, this is a place you could safely get a satisfying meal. The place is clean. Service is good. Atmosphere is "just the right amount of Montana". Enjoy! P.S. We got to judge the gingerbread house decorating contest. The young lady with the light up necklace of Christmas tree lights (the big size, not the little size) won. Brava! Having said that, there were about 8 total and they were all well-above-average. My friend and I ordered the BLT with the bacon jam. We waited more than 15 minutes for water and a Diet Coke. Our waitress Emily, was in a hurry as she had her purse over her shoulder, literally slung the two sandwiches on our table, as she passed by, 40 minutes later. When she came back with the condiment she tossed the basket on the table. We had to stop her and let her know our sandwiches didn't have the bacon jam. Clearly having a bad day, I got up and picked up the pitcher of water to refill our glasses. My friend went to the bar for a refill on her Diet Coke. The bartender was at the end of the bar on her phone. Emily came back about 20 minutes later asking us if we enjoyed our meal and handed us the check. She asked, so my friend answered, "It would have been better with the bacon jam we informed you was missing." Emily said "Oh" and walked off. My friend lives in the area and raved about the menu and service when she came in last. We always try to support small businesses, however that is a two way street, and consistency is key. I will visit her often, however I won't be back to this hole in the wall nightmare. read more

Our preferred place to eat in White Sulphur. Our favorite thing to order is the chicken fried steak. I've also had the tacos which are very good (the tortillas are thicker and softer than a standard flour tortilla FYI). The smash burgers are also tasty, but wish they were a little bigger. We've never had a problem with service here. Stacey is our favorite server, she's always so sweet and friendly. Only complaint it's the drinks could be a lot stronger, but otherwise a nice place to eat. read more

This was a very disappointing place to Eat!! We were told when we arrived that they had a large group so it would take a little longer which we were fine with, we don't mind having an extra drink. But they ended up not having any Rum. How does a bar run out of Rum. Finally after we got a drink we ordered and got an appetizer being they said it would take a while. After an hour we finally were able to get another drink and reminded them we had ordered an appetizer if we could get that. After another hour we received our food. In that time other tables had gotten their food that arrived after us. The food was very disappointing cold and dried out. One had ordered the Mac and cheese with steak and it was so cold it was one piece. And one person in our group never received their meal. But the waitress was never to be found again. After being there 2 1/2 hours I had to find a server to get our check and told her I wanted to talk to someone. The bar tender came over and told us she works 60 hours a week and this is how it is. Then a lady from the kitchen came out did not say anything but I will take 15% off your bill that's it and left. Very rude and unprofessional. At that point we paid and left. I would not recommend this place to anyone food was not good and service horrible. The owner and manager should be embarrassed by how this place is ran. Last Saturday Bar 47 served up the most disastrous dining experience I've had in recent memory. We left after 2.5 hours and just ended up getting food from the gas station across the street. We weren't the only table to walk out after despairing of ever receiving our orders. I'm sure this place is fine when it isn't busy--but imagine two wait staff and two cooks trying to run a restaurant full of 60 people and you can imagine the scene. If you walk in and the place is busy, maybe grab a pizza from the place next door and come back for drinks later. I hate leaving negative reviews, so let me offer a few constructive suggestions for the management: * If you're short-staffed, don't seat all of your tables. Better to provide a good experience to 8 tables than a terrible experience to 20. * Simplify your menu. If you can't make milkshakes or fancy cocktails when the bar is busy, put them on a separate menu you only distribute when you're not busy. Don't let guests order these items and then simply just never make them. * Invest time into training your wait staff. Assign them to specific tables. Train them to be candid and set appropriate expectations. If the kitchen is backed up and it's going to take two hours, tell your guests and let them make their own choice! This really should be a 1 star review, but I'll bump things up to 1.5 since the wedge salad I ordered as an appetizer was pretty good. read more

Stopped here on my way home from a long motorcycle ride. Great place. Friendly staff. Nice atmosphere. I had some delicious street tacos, which were not on the printed menu, but were on the menu on their website. The staff was somewhat surprised, but they checked with the kitchen and they made them right up. Great selection of beer too, including several from the local brewery, 2 Basset Brewery, which is just down the street. read more

Wow. Absolutely amazing. Great service. Wonderful food. Fun atmosphere. Started with chips and dips ("Three Amigos", queso, guac, salsa). Good sized portions. Good guacamole. Had the "Angry Bird" to drink (Angry Orchard, tea, vodka) very understated, VERY strong. Not my favorite. I was there with my small children and someone, I'm guessing the owner, brought over these wonderful brain teaser games. Very considerate! Just an example of the extra mile service. For dinner we ordered burgers. They were all wonderful and to our surprise we could get gluten free buns! Not expected in such a small town but most welcome! The server was also very attune to our dietary needs and checked with the kitchen on our orders and made sure we were getting all gluten free foods. This restaurant and bar is the quintessential small town Montana experience while remaining up to date. read more

Food portions were small and some components forgotten. Food was over priced. Service was horrible we waited along with every other person there. The only reason we stayed was because there wasn't anything else open. The servers were rude, and not polite. Ambiance was way off, the servers were running around like it was a mad house and there was probably quarter capacity. Don't waist your time and money on this place. I do know the owners also own the Jawbone. I have never eaten there, but from my experience with how the owners allow Bar 47 to operate, I wouldn't even chance it. This is a must stop in if you are traveling through. The food was excellent, better than many of the restaurants in larger cities. Staff was so friendly and helpful. What a pleasant experience after a long day of traveling. I had a mushroom swiss burger that was amazing, and bread pudding for dessert (I never get dessert but had to try it, you should too). We also had the chips and three dipping sauces. Whoever their cook is really knows their stuff, the menu had a large selection. Which I took photos of and posted to Yelp. So we headed into town before the evening music started at Red Ants Pants, to drink beer and catch a bite to eat... we finally ended up here and the guy outside said to try the fried green beans, so we went in and ordered a basket without looking at the menu! All was good until we got the bill for $14! We were shocked and asked to make sure that did not include the beers too. She said that normally they charge $12 but raised the prices for the event. *Makes me wonder how much a burger would have been, $30? This place has a great menu--we were really excited to try it. Boy were we disappointed. I have never in my life had such terrible service in a bar. There were 4 servers in a tiny space, and yet not a single one of them seemed to know what the hell they were doing. We watched one server bring out food to a table that wasn't even their food. They just left it there on th table, and one of the people started eating fries out of the food on the table. The server then picked it up and gave the food to the right table. Disgusting. We had to ask for water 3 times before they brought it. Same with silverware. Our food orders came with salad, which was brought at the same time as our dinner entrees. At the suggestion of the server I ordered the "house special," the chicken fried steak. I couldn't eat it. It was flavorless and gluey. It was served on top of a "bed of mashed red potatoes," but I couldn't find them. "Steamed veggies" come with every meal, but it was broccoli covered in a gluey cheese sauce, which bled all over my plate and into everything. So gross. The only edible parts of my meal were the bread and salad. My husband had flavorless prime rib and microscopic mashed potatoes. We had to tel the server to take my meal off the bill--he did not offer. Our bill came and the drinks, although we hadn't asked, had been marked as premium liquor even though we hadn't asked for premium. Ridiculous. The whole experience was terrible and I will never go back--not even to drink. read more

This place came highly recommended. Upon entering, we saw only 6 tables occupied. We sat ourselves which is not uncommon. However, our server changed within 5 minutes. At first loved our server, young girl with long dirty blonde hair. She seemed attentive. After going above and beyond to get one of our guests hot water for a special soup, she took our order and we asked for gluten free bread for our burger. Salad came accurately, but when burger came, she practically threw the plate on the table and turned immediately to accommodate a larger group next to us without offering condiments or any thing else before moving on. It gets worse. The gluten free bread was toasted to cover up how old it was. Her response was "that's why she doesn't eat healthy."
