My wife and I came here for her birthday last night, the weather was perfect and the music happened to be her favorite duo. The food and the service was excellent, and the crowd was fun too. She ordered the Mediterranean Chicken and I got the Filet, and we shared the shortbread cookies not pictured. All of it was delicious. At the end we ordered some Made in Helena, MT Baddies, she had the huckleberry and I had the Montana Mule which was spot on. We love this place! read more

Ordered Coconut fried rice Pineapple was mushy with no pineapple flavor Coconut flavor was non existant Shrimp was mushy If I were to guess, it was not made fresh, and cooked day /s prior and simply heated up. Would not order again. When I shared the feedback, it was not met with a thank you for the feedback, but rather made to feel my fault. The owner did take 10 off, but would rather have seen a simple taken off given only 5 bites. I'm convinced if the chef had pre tasted, they would have said, oops, can't serve that. Gave this restaurant several attempts because of the neat atmosphere and unique menu selections. On one occasion our group's collective orders were wrong and when we brought it to the staff's attention, she was indifferent and unapologetic. The other two times were just...ok. read more

First time in Helena and warned the dining options would be limited. Fortunately our host knew about this place and wanted to try it. The menu was great...lots of variety...lots of flavors for every palette. The food was all very well prepared, fresh and flavorful. The bourbon options were a bit limited....Makers or Woodford. The wine list offered a great variety. We had a chance to visit with the owner. She was amazing...very passionate about her place and super friendly. She has a great story!!!! We ate there last night. Neat location and stellar service. Good appetizer (4 cheese flatbread) as well as sides (broccolini and mashed potatoes), but the downside was the centerpiece of our meal - a filet we both ordered (sourced from a Montana ranch per the menu) which was a disappointment. While it came in a tasty sauce, it was anything but tender, we needed to saw on it with a knife and fork, whereas a good filet often can be cut with a fork, and the portion was quite small and thin, considering the $46 price. It was more sirloin than a filet in terms of quality. The live music was nice, older acoustic country - not overly intrusive on our meal. Might try them again sometime - interesting menu had a few other things you can't find locally - but I will steer clear of the filet in the future. No bread with meal. We can get a better steak at lower price (theirs was $46) at a number of other locations in town. read more

My son and daughter in law took us to eat at the Highlander for Father's Day. Our reservation was for 6:00 pm. We arrived on time. Waited about 20 minutes to get our drinks and then my son decided to go to the bar and just get them there. We were refused purchasing drinks at the bar and told to go set down. Ordered our food and received our food at 7: 57. Almost 2 hours after we had been there. Crab cakes had absolutely no flavor whatsoever so ever. My husbands steak was well done after asking for medium rare. My Mahi Mahi was so over done it was ridiculous. This place is a joke! read more

This was the best "find" of our trip to Helena for a family wedding. It's well off the beaten path and more than worth the 30 minute drive from town. Throw away your expectations of Golf Club dining because Highlander is its own world and you are just a grateful temporary citizen. This is exquisite cuisine in a renovated barn in the middle of a farm/golf course. This is quirky and friendly and totally satisfying. You will love the owner and she will have a story or two when she comes over to make certain you are loving everything. read more

I organized a surprise birthday dinner for my girlfriend and the Highlander went above and beyond for our party of 12. The food, atmosphere, and service was incredible. Try the carne asado, any of the flatbreads, and by all means the pork belly and the cauliflower. It's been a while since we've been here and our expectations were high based on our last visit. But we will never go back. The service was horrendous, taking over 2 hours for our dinner to be served. The food was disappointing at best and way overpriced. And the atmosphere was that of a local biker bar. Not at all what we experienced before. I guess after the Dam Bar burned down, the locals needed a place to hangout and they landed here. read more

How has this place not been reviewed in FOUR years?! The food was excellent. My wife had the filet mignon and I had the Cajun chicken fettuccini. The steak was cooked to perfection! definitely drool worthy! We always forget about this place since it's off the path a little, but it was well worth the drive! I am updating a review I left a year ago that was a bad review. Tonite we went back and couldn't be happier to report that last year was a one off. Tonite was 180 degrees better. I ordered the Blackened Walley with a homemade tartar sauce. A side of wild rice and green beans. My wife had the 12oz Ribeye with a balsamic glazed potato and green beans. You can't beat the atmosphere sitting on veranda looking at the mountains. Food is always good and the staff will take good care of you. Be sure to check out the glamour camping if you plan to drink Golf is always an option however I can't tell you much about that as I am not golfer. read more

The location is lovely, the food absolutely fantastic and the staff and management could not be better. We had a miscommunication, probably my fault, on the night of the reservation. And they graciously accommodated the six of us without a word of complaint. The manager stopped by our table to ask how everything was and the server did not miss a beat. I recommend the walleye but every meal served at our table was a five-star. read more

Have ate here before. Food was good & service. But ate here tonight with reservations. Busy Had to wait 2 hrs to get meal. Never got our wine we ordered. Another brand. Steaks were not cooked to our order. People next to us same thing. When it came time to pay told the owner that I thought he was under staffed & he very rudely got mad & told us to leave. Never even told him the meal wasn't done right. So yes I got a free meal but I don't like being treated this way. So good luck to this place. Lousy food, lousy service, lousy management. We went there on a Saturday, driving one hour from Helena to get there. We arrived at 6 pm and there was nobody seated in the restaurant area. However, a very rude hostess told us to wait at the bar for a table. The same hostess came around and asked us what we wanted to drink. We told her we wanted to eat dinner at a table. She made us buy drinks first. After we were seated at a table (still the only ones in the whole place), the same hostess/bartender became our waitress! She was rude and ignorant, which made us very uncomfortable. We ordered appetizers that took 30 minutes to arrive and during the interim, the waitress kept trying to get us to drink more. We kept declining politely because the drinks she first served us were terrible. The appetizers came out cold and inedible. We waited another half hour for our dinners. During this time, the owner came out and sat down at our table, uninvited! He appeared to be very drunk and he told our waitress to get us a bottle of wine. We told him we did not want any wine. He sat at our table and opened the bottle of wine anyway!! He drank the bottle while we told him we wanted to be alone. He refused to leave until our dinners came out. We were so disgusted at this point, we told the waitress to box our dinners to go. She came out with two boxes and threw them on the table. Needless to say, this is the worst restaurant on the planet. read more

This place thinks it's much fancier than it is. We didn't have reservations and despite five tables being open we weren't seated for over 20 min and that's after we went back in to check. No one came with reservations while we waited but several people left. We were finally seated at a table that had sat empty the entire time we waited. So service is awful and unprofessional. Food too expensive for what it is. Pretty setting (hence the 2 stars) but you can find pretty anywhere else and go get better food in town. read more

We did have to wait awhile for dinner, as everyone in the area must have decided to come the same night as us....but it was worth it! Ate here one evening and the food was delicious - had filet mignon! Perfectly cooked and the appetizers/starters were amazing also. The salads are pretty large sized - especially the Caesar. They had live music playing and the whole outdoors of the restaurant is simply beautiful! Semi-high priced yet affordable and well worth what you receive. Was excited to go to this restaurant. But walked out shortly after arriving. No one greeted us or offered a table. The bartender ignored us as we searched for a table both inside and outside. Only 2 tables filled and 3 people at the bar so it wasn't busy. Finally sat at the bar and the bartender still refused to even acknowledge us. Poor service and their menu selections will keep us from returning or recommending this place. read more
