Sat at the chef's counter and met Jean Michel who was a fantastic host and it was so much fun to watch him in action. Had the most incredible meal that just kept coming and we were not only full at the end but very impressed by the creativity. 3.5 Stars - as reviewed it's a place that can accommodate without a long wait, we had a last minute guest wanting to experience Montreal french food on a Saturday night, which is almost impossible to get a reservation in the spring/summer. One of the few places in the neighborhood that was busy but could still accommodate us without a crazy long wait. Everyone was sitting and enjoying the outdoors, but I peeked inside and it's lovely! We had the sourdough bread, mushroom and mozzarella toast, fish crudo, and coppa cotta. Everything was delicious and creatively put together, but the fish crudo was the highlight by far! This tiny room next to Datcha is not immediately evident, the window is slightly hidden and there is no number on the door. But if you are in front of Datcha and tuck into the door between it and some indie fur designer place on the left, you'll find yourself immediately at home. Datcha is the size of a small narrow livingroom, or boat, or coat room. There is a bar with a few plush stools and hooks for your coat, and a skilled and friendly bartender happy to chat about the different delicious cocktails, or art, or New York, or life. I tried the champagne cocktail and it was perfect, and perfectly pretty, and prettily suited to the sweet room. I didn't try the food but the drinks were all in the non-insane, totally affordable cocktail range, and very delicious, plus I love me a romantic tiny tucked away room, so I'll be back here for sure. read more

Loved walking in to this tiny bar. The ambiance is cozy, eclectic and kinda old fashioned. The decor reminds me of bohemian style in the 1800's. That ambiance was emphasized when the tarot card reader (provides free readings every Thursday evening till 11PM) came around. Since the bar is so small it promotes socialization with strangers, which I love as an extrovert. My roommate and I were chatting away with the bartender and those around us. The bars wine choices were pretty on point. The wines they chose were different from the ones that are usually found in bars. This was a welcome surprise. Location: Laurier, west of St. Laurent. I'd say the Laurier station is your best bet if you're coming by subway. Street parking is available but metered (though I think the meters stop at 6pm - check the schedule). The place: Super cozy and tiny! There's one table and some bar seating - that's about it. However, the vibe is unpretentious and casual, and like I said, cozy. I almost felt like I was hanging out in someone's livng room. Loved the space! The goods: I had the Pimms and it was amazing. So much so, that I literally sucked on that straw until I could get nary a drop from the bottom of the glass. The fresh mint and strawberry put a super fresh spin on the traditional Pimms cup. Kabinet is a small bar in Mile End serving delicious Moscow Mules. I went with a friend during the week and really enjoyed the environment. The only reason I didn't give Kabinet a 5 stars is because the music gets very loud. So loud that you can't maintain a conversation and you feel like you're in a club. This place is cool, more appropriate than the intense dance music in its connecting bar Datcha. Kabinet has cool outside seating, lots of nice cocktails, and a generally nice atmosphere to hang with friends for a bit and have a drink. Far better when not too crowded though. read more

It's a small, but cute little place decorated in Russian style. They serve great cocktails and some food. It's a little bit hipster and maybe not too big for large groups, but an excellent place for a date! read more

We were pleased we got a seat at the bar. 8.00pm and only 4 people in there which is good because there are only a few seats, cosy and cute and encouraging. Friendly service, cocktails were Ok - so far no outstanding cocktails in Montreal. .Music was blaring and inappropriate, ones expects a low hum for discourse in a bar such as this so no second cocktail. Me thinks will we find anywhere in this town that will surprise us. read more

Eh, I was a bit annoyed that they shut down the coffee machines at a certain point in the afternoon, so despite it being billed as a coffee shop, you might not be able to get a coffee if you come here later in the day.... Shared outdoor seating. Wine and drinks were fine, but nothing particularly special about it. read more

Can easily be added to the short list of places who's vibe--turn of the 20th Russian tea room here--is both style and substance. Small but intimate and unique space that's a fantastic place to start or end a date. This is the kind of place you suggest your out of town friends definitely stop by. Coffee by 49th Parallel and local MTL roaster Dispatch: coffee snobs. Went a bit too early to try the drinks, but any bar with more than one bourbon option is a well stocked bar in my book. read more

Max the bartender was amazing! He made incredible cocktails, and the Moscow mule (made with fresh ginger) was the best I've ever had.

12-seater space (total guesstimation), intimate, sophisticated yet cool with a true cocktails list. Attached to Datcha, the club beats echo through but fade out so you can have a convo or sexy whisper with whoever you're with, or meet. For some reason we always seem to see Win Butler here too. He has become as expected as the banana leaf plant. If your vibes are fun yet low key, this may be it. Dress to get checked out by a design-minded crowd. read more

Expensive cocktails that were just ok. We were the only people in bar and asked them to turn the music down and they pretty much refused (said it could only go down one click, which made no difference). It was super loud pumping music on a Tues evening. The bartender suggested we go outside (so staff could enjoy the loud music by themselves o guess) if we didn't like music. My husband has brain cancer with tumors in his back, so we went outside to avoid the noise, but outside had backless chairs which are tough on him. We felt super unwelcome. It's a small spot so if you can sneak in, find a place to sit if it's not too busy (!!) get a drink right away - miracle!...
