All the activities are scheduled so carefully that I was able to participate in everything I wanted to do. Their horses are very well cared for, well behaved and trained. No swaybacked trail nags here! The up to date whitewater rafts and staff were all very knowledgeable and safety oriented. We had some GREAT rapids rides!! The shooting involved expert SAFE instruction and a revolving set of varied experiences with different weapons. The children in attendance had the time of their lives as did this 74 year old horsewoman! The ranch is self sufficient ( off the grid) and well off the beaten path. A real community developed amongst the guests under the guidance and warm personalities of Heidi and Doug. The 30 plus years of love and devotion to the upkeep of the natural beauty of their ranch showed in the gardens and plantings of flowers and trees in abundance. Even the gaggle of teenaged sisters spent less time in the lodge (the only WiFi) than one would have imagined! A fun and deeply relaxing time in nature was had by all. Plenty of things to do for kiddos - absolutely adorable petting zoo creatures- $5 to get in with them but if money is tight, the kids can easily see them up close without the fee. Bales of hay are set up in a maze for which there was no charge to play in and around. It was super cool to get to walk around the pumpkin fields filled with various kinds of pumpkins, squash and other gourds. They provide heavy duty wagons to carry your haul. Vendor on premises with freshly made to order burgers and drinks and picnic tables available to eat at. The pumpkins are on the pricey side but also organic and very cool looking, some creepy looking as well.

We chose to come to Plaisance, one, to taste some good wine but also to grab some beef on our way to my grandpas house. He lives less than 15 min away and we have to pass the ranch to get to his house. I'm terrible with names but the person who was working was great. She was so welcoming and gracious. She even gave us a bit of a mini tour, which I thought was really sweet. The grounds are gorgeous. I kept saying "bucolic" over and over while I was there. You can sip on a flight while staring out at green pastures and grazing cows (and maybe even a sleepy puppy). We were able to get some steaks. They were ok. The wine is fantastic and I love they put into each bottle. I'd love to come back one day and try more wine varieties and get to meet the owner. My grandpa said that they went to high school together!

I am too old to travel but am booking a visit for my husband's girls this year, so they can have a memorial service for their dad, a cousin to the large Ammon family. They are cousins to the current owner's children, yet don't know the history. I can't wait for my girls to learn about their roots. The Ammon and the Martin family share the same great grandparents through John Martin and Mary (Martin) Ammon's parents. This property is really special. It was a busy cattle ranch when I was a child, and now it's home to the McCullough Cattle Company, and a beautiful vacation destination. The owner lives close by and has a gorgeous home too. She hand painted the ceiling ( a must see) in her grandparents original ranch house, and updated it beautifully. Meeting her will be a pleasure for anyone booking her property. She is one of the most accomplished women I know. So much like her grandmother, Delphine. Truly a pioneer woman of strength.
