We had absolutely the best time here at Bar Paco Bueno after being disappointed by a few others on our Pinxto crawl. The people behind the bar immediately warmed up to us with a smile and gave us things to try and recommended some pinxtos too. What we got: Crab salad sandwich: Doesn't look like much, but the bread was nicely toasted and all of the ingredients just fit well together. Battered shrimp: How good could this be we thought, but 2 pieces of fresh shrimp, a batter that is not overly greasy/oily, and a taste combination of goodness. definitely get this one. In 1 hour, we saw them go through 3x+ plates Cod omelette sandwich: Saw this come out fresh from the back. Fluffy omelette, delicious. Drinks-wise, they have a solid wine and cider collection. This place is the real deal--a no-frills bar where locals come to grab a drink and eat good pintxos. I stopped by with my wife on a recent August evening and we loved the place. We ordered gamba a la gabardina, or shrimp fried in a thick crispy batter. It was amazing! The shrimp was tender and the batter was tasty and warm but not greasy. The pintxo comes with two shrimps to a plate for $1.90. We enjoyed two orders each, which we washed down with a glass of beer and cider. Paco Bueno exudes character. Here you'll see and hear the bartenders speaking with each other and the regulars in Euskera, the Basque language, and you can easily strike up a conversation in Spanish with friendly locals. This is one of the top pintxo bars we visited during our month-long stay in Donostia, and we look forward to returning to Paco's next time we visit this beautiful seaside city. read more

If you're visiting Donostia/San Sebastián, chances are you'll want to explore Old Town, which has MANY pintxos bars within a very short walking distance from each other. The idea is to come in to try the specialty of each bar, and not to fill up on all of the random pintxos you see at one spot. And, out of all of the bars in this neighborhood I visited, this was my favorite. Was it the most culinarily exciting? Was it the most comfortable? Was it the ambiance? Was it the unforgettable service? Well, no to all of the above. But there are no gimmicks or tricks here - if you like simple, straightforward, well-priced, and well-done, I think you'll appreciate this spot. My recommendations: -Wear comfortable shoes - there are no bar stools -Order the battered shrimp (the specialty) and a gilda (I liked theirs best out of the bars I visited) -If you need a little extra bite before your next stop, the crab sandwich and Spanish tortilla are also decent -Drink it with some sangría (I LOVED the sangría here) or txakoli read more

Coming here feels like you have finally done it. You found a place that is not for tourists. Depending on when you wander​ in here the crowd can range from alone, not even a bartender, to NYC NYE Times Square. You almost feel like you don't​ belong as​ if you walked into a house of worship to a religion you don't​ belong to. Then you start to marvel​ and realize all are welcome in the house of the culinary gods. Do your best not to just start scarfing down what is sitting on the bar, this is a good rule for all bars in the area, and wait for the ​hot deep-fried​ golden mouth miracles to be triumphantly​ carried out of the kitchen. This is a no frills​ bar that does what it is supposed to do extremely​ well, cheap drinks and great fried food. Not coming here would be a culinary calamity equal to a mortal sin. read more

Great place, been here now on two different trips and it was excellent both times. Great selection of pintxos and great quality ingredients.

After a night of pintxos hopping, we always find ourselves here for some deep fried battered shrimps. Wash it down with some cidre or beer and head on home with a happy belly. read more
