I am very confused by all the negative reviews! Were you folks all eating in the same restaurant I did last night? Because the food was fantastic! When we arrived, my friend & I, we asked to sit outside. It was crowded out there at 8pm, so we opted for a prime spot at the pizza oven bar table. This was a good choice since we could watch Giuseppe, the pizza chef make beautiful pizzas in the wood fired oven! We must come back for pizza after seeing how masterfully Giuseppe finished each pizza near the fire, allowing the pizza bubbles to cook and only slightly char near the flame. We also had a great view of the kitchen. The scents wafting out were tempting, and I detected the unmistakable perfume of truffles! Ilike to watch food being cooked and I love restaurant shows, so this was a warm cozy and entertaining private spot for us, with plenty of banter with the friendly staff. The appetizer I ordered was a seafood salad. It consisted of octopus, (what my friend informed me was) conch, squid and mussels tossed with some fresh baby greens and cherry tomatoes. It was light and flavorful. The seafood was very lightly dressed so the flavors were not overwhelmed, so often the case in other restaurants who bury a subtle ocean taste under balsamic vinegar. My friend ordered one of the restaurant week specials; mussels in a light broth and a dinner of filet mignon. The mussels were tender and fresh with a piquent broth, easily soaked up with the panne rustica given at table with o.o. But the filet mignon! My oh my! Out of this world! We have eaten in some fine restaurants, and this was hands down the best cut of mignon we've ever been served! After enjoying watching it being cooked with a flourish by master chef Louis, pan seared and finished in the oven, it was cooked perfectly medium rare in a light 'beof' bergundy sauce with an intense reduction drizzed atop. Served over white asparagus, every mouthful was a delight. On the side was a mashed potato cake which, although appearing unassuming, upon tasting exploded with a complicated mixture of what my senses had earlier delighted in: black truffles! Each mouthful was like a trip to heaven! I love love love truffles! They are extremely expensive and difficult to find and harvest, traditionally found in forests under trees with the help of pigs, who love foraging for truffles too. They are prized in Europe, but often unappreciated and confusing to the bland compromised uneducated American palate. For those of you who have never tasted them, please do yourself a favor. Try the truffled potatoes at Bar Rosso! Afterward you may feel inspired to hug the chef in thanks, as I did! Dessert was a panna cotta with pomegranate and raspberry sauce, and oranges. It was very light, only slightly sweet, and a lovely ending to a fantastic meal. All in all, not a 'bar person' I cannot comment on the drinks. The people at the bar seemed happy, and the unfortunately ever present (in Stamford) sports game played on several TV's. I prefer soft music while dining but realize Bar Rosso is serving a younger crowd too. All in all, I think the negative reviewers should give this gem of an Italian restaurant another try. I appreciate the authentic Italian cuisine being served here, and don't expect my food to be franchise style 'dummied down' Italian to which many Americans have become accustomed. The service was kind of slow here, but the food was great. We ate outside, and it is definitely a great environment for that. I had the crispy calamari. It did not come with any sauce, but requested marinara that was delicious with the calamari. I also split the spicy salami pizza with my boyfriend. It was really tasty, and definitely enough food for the both of us. It was, however, very spicy for me, although he did not mind. So just be cautious if you do not do well with spice, and have lots of water. Overall it was a great dining experience. read more

This place has really stepped it up since the ownership team took this restaurant over from the folks at Napa & Co. The food is always prepared well and the staff is genuinely pleasant and attentive. I recently had a birthday party there for about 20 people and the restaurant was extremely accommodating. Despite having such a large group, all the food was prepared perfectly and served hot. After numerous visits, Bar Rosso never seems to let down. That type of consistency is hard to beat! read more

Loved this place when it first opened, it would have been a 5. Since the change im not that into it and ive been 3x since. The things i loved about the menu were gone. While the food is still good and ive sampled many of the dishes its not the same. The atmosphere is gone too. Last 2x ive been there me and my wife were the only ones there! I do love the inside it has a nice feel. The prices are a little high but not crazy for the area. Service was great. when we sent something back it wasnt a problem. He refilled our drinks and cleared table when required. He didnt really have a choice tho cuz we were the only table in the place. Past 2x i went were sunday afternoons so maybe that had somethin to do with it... Not one of my fav places in area anymore. read more

Great food - love the pizza, tried some of the apps, but it is SO loud inside I could barely hear the person I was with.

Had dinner the last several Monday nights and this place is really doing a much better job on their food than a year ago. Menu is interesting and varied with a unique approach to Italian cuisine. Been a big fan of Bar Rosso literally since they opened... I work just up Summer St. so it's a really convenient location for after-work happy hours, group parties, etc. The staff is always attentive, and the service is first-class! Went this afternoon to catch the World Cup on their brand new, awesome big-screen projection TV, and was not disappointed! Service was great, atmosphere was awesome, and was a perfect way to end the week with a bunch of friends. Had drinks and apps, which were delish, all at a very reasonable price. Really good time, and already looking forward to the next one! read more

All I can say is YUM..,ordered the pasta ragout and it was delicious. I also had the apple tart.

My colleague and I found this Restaraunt through an APP and are so grateful we decided to stop. We chose items from the small latest menu along with wine. The truffle fries and bruschetta was amazing!! I wasn't as impressed with the fried mozzarella as much. I expected the outside to be much crispier and hotter with the cheese almost gooey. I would still give them a second try. The staff was very helpful and informative - even though it felt like 3 or 4 individuals stopped by to ask how we were doing. Two of the waiters were sure to mention the weekly events and specials and managed to convince us to have one last glass of wine. We enjoyed eating and talking about everything under the sun here and would definitely visit if we are in the neighborhood again. read more

It was ok, nothing great or memorable. Food was fine but trying a bit too hard (always leery of restaurants that over use sauces and saffron). Service was quick and responsive. Come here for post-work drinks quite frequently- the cocktails are always well mixed and the atmosphere is great. Pizzas are delicious and the appetizers are always a good choice. Sabrina the bartender is always attentive and makes sure to take care of you while there- as well as the rest of the staff. read more

Brunch was terrible. It smelled like crap in there from the moment we got there-- and they were mopping. First, not much for gluten free options. They have basic eggs, or an order of fruit, or penne. Second, eggs and potatos were $13. I asked for bacon, that's an extra $2. I asked for fresh mozz, that's an extra $3. We didn't even have drinks and this was getting expensive. The eggs were not made to order. They were not organic or locally farmed. They were just eggs-- not worth the $13. I would have paid a third of that for a better meal at a diner. My husband didn't have a great meal either. Third, our server disappeared. Maybe they were having a meeting or something because most of the staff disappeared but he wasn't there. We didn't see him for 30 minutes and asked another server to help us. We left without seeing our server. Not worth it at all. read more

Saturday night we went to Bar Rosso in stamford with a group of people from the studio (DWME) we were told this past week (I also called the place today to verify) that 9pm they will clear the area on the first floor to make room for us to dance. at 11:30 they still had no intention of doing so. I spoke to the manager at 10:30, he said oh that will happen shortly. we were misslead about tonight. the restaurant made good money on us - we all had dinner and some drinks - but I think they lost more in the long run. never again would we go back - btw - what they charge for the food, one would expect better quality. we were lied to - that's not a way to run a business. read more

Bar Rosso, the Llittle Italy of Connecticut!!! ----------------------------------------------------- The service and food here is incredible. I had a reservation here on a Saturday night and it was packed. The table wasn't ready right away, so we waited a few minutes. The rest of the night was perfect. They really make you feel at home here. My friend and I shared a pizza and salad that was great, and as main course I ordered a filet mignon...delicious. I'm sure the rest of the menu is delicious too. I got the chance to talk to the executive chef, Massimo Stecchi--straight from Italy. He is so professional and even offered me a dessert to try, he told me that the ingredients that they use are imported from Italy...everything very fresh. I will definitely go back and will recommend this restaurant to friends. read more

I can't remember ever having such a horrible dining experience AND I must warn people that I got pretty sick last night (and all today!) and am pretty certain it was the food. I did not drink too much! I ordered a dry vodka martini from the bar. It came out dirty. Ok fine, not everyone has such specific requirements for a martini. No problem. I'll mention though that in the past here, I would have gotten a good martini. The hostess tried to sit my date and me at what was obviously the worst table - a 4 person table right near the door and her hostess stand. I suggested the other tables and she was able to seat us there. There were spotlights in my eyes (why???) and I asked if the waiter could fix it since he saw that there were lights in everyone else's eye too. Maybe an hour later he turned them down a bit. Meanwhile, there was a loud, disruptive banging sound coming out of the kitchen. Again, why?? It didn't seem like anyone made an effort to create a nice experience! There were all those customers in the restaurant who made an effort to get dressed, go out, and chose this restaurant to have their dinner. It's insulting! The food - so horrible. I used to come here years ago and the food and menu was actually pretty decent! Simple, but fresh and tasty. I can't talk too much about the food because the thought of it is still making me feel sick. From other reviews, I think maybe there was a change in management. The people that own Volta and Capriccio own this place too. Maybe that wasn't always the case? Either way, I already have stopped going to the other places because they are dirty and the service is immature and unskilled. Had I known, I wouldn't have come here either and I am suffering hugely today. :( read more

Horrible service! Ordered pasta and it came with two long hairs in it. Told our waitress and she didn't even apologize just said ok would you like the same order or something different. When I got the bill they didn't even comp my plate. The server was not nice and the food wasn't good after she gave me a new plate. Never going back again. Went there last week as a goodbye lunch for a work colleague. Service was awful. Food came out very late - several people had to leave after an hour and still had not gotten their entrees. It took them 90 mins to serve entrees with no apology or acknowledgements the salads were drenched in dressing and the $10 add on chicken and salmon were the size of my pinky. I will never go here again and do not recommend it. read more

Today was just ok. 35 min to get food, meatballs and pizza? It was good. Had 2 knives in my napkin no fork but that was ok. Tried to use my free wine for check in and was told only at tables ??? Not so sure about that ? Doesn't say so. Had a good time otherwise. read more

My husband and I had a weird experience there. Will never return. I ordered a glass of wine. It tasted VERY strange. And I am an experienced wine drinker ( that includes tasting wine for years in Europe). My husband was so kind to offer to drink my wine, and I ordered a glass of different wine. It had the same weird taste. The waitress recommended other wine to me which I tasted but ... it had the same unbelievably strange taste. But I decided to be nice and took that third choice. Although this had never in my life occurred to me. My husband 's Stella didn't even taste like typical Stella. The next morning we both woke up with a horrible headache. We're assuming that there was something on the surface of their glasses (a chemical rinse, perhaps) that altered the taste of a beverage. How can someone do this to people who try to stay healthy? read more

I hate to add to all the other miserable reviews this place has gotten, but my experience wasn't any better unfortunately. I will first go with the good comments... The renovation is beautiful, and I think I would return for drinks at the bar. I wanted to love the food but my husband and I did not. We started with the Burrata which came with Speck, olives, pistachios, jalapeno $17...I, personally didn't love the combination of flavors...We then shared the broccoli di rape pizza with hot Italian sausage. The pizza would have been better with a different sausage, or minus the sausage all together- the crust was delicious as was the broccoli di rape but the sausage did not taste good. We then each ordered 1/2 portions of pasta each. I had gotten the truffle and ricotta gnocchi, and my husband got the tagliatelle with white bolognese. Both pastas were quite boring and bland. They sounded delicious in the description but fell very short of what was promised. Finally we tried this dough thing with nutella. I can't remember the name of it but I for some reason expected something like a nutella pizza with the caramelized banana which considering how tasty their pizza crust was, would have been a great ending...however we got these two doughy logs that looked like churros but were just heavy doughy things with sugar and cinnamon, and truly needed a more crisp and a more generous helping of nutella to make it better. The staff needs to be much better at expediting orders and getting customers their food in a more timely fashion. read more

Friends of mine were served FROZEN RAW CHICKEN. Not a joke. It was covered so couldn't see it until you actually cut into the middle part. Absolutely repulsive and inexcusable. Was completely raw and still partially frozen- huge health risk and violation. Completely disgusting. Will never be going back and spreading the word. read more

Came here for Easter brunch. While the food was tolerable (try the eggplant caponata), our experience was completely marred by the crude, loud and classless individuals surrounding the bar. It seems the bartender and her friend had invited some friends to stop by--a very different crowd than was seated in the restaurant. While it was somewhat amusing to hear a number of stories about waking up drunk and drinking too much, it was not exactly a relaxing or enjoyable atmosphere. Would not come back, unless sitting outside in the summer. read more

How does Napa continue to get mentioned in the same sentence? Or are these people trying to find a scapegoat for bad service, poor food and overall mediocre execution? Napa was only involved for 3 months people! They pulled away from this mess over 1-1/2 ago. Capriccio has always had lousy service and food but simply a great patio. Is anyone surprised he couldn't pull off a real restaurant? I've tried it over the past two years and it continues to go down hill. Came here for Brunch with a few friends. Service was great. Bottomless mimosas for 15$ was a bargain! Octavio was so personable and amazing.

Came for ladies night and what a disappointment starting from the hostess ending with one of the bartenders! When we arrived clearly told the hostess that we were here for drinks, but she decided to give us a table. We asked the waitress what were the specials for ladies night and told us we had to either sit at the bar or at a high top. Well we decided to move to a hight top, sitting at the hight top no one comes we asked the hostess (who doesn't a clue what goes on in this place at all) if we had to order from the wait staff or at the bar, again she didn't know so she had to go ask. Comes back and tell us we had to order from the bar. I go order at the bar bartender cared more about talking to her colleagues than attending the costumer waiting. Not sure if we were just been discriminated for been Hispanic (because the white folks were clearly getting a great service) or they are just all snotty and stuck up but I'll not be coming back to this place again. I have been waiting to write review for this place for quite some time. Started going there with my boyfriend Sunday afternoons for our post Vermont- weekend-y relaxing time. We decided to go around downtown and find a spot that would most appropriately fit the bill: wine, beers, pizza or clams at the bar however and whatever our moods would be. Bar Rosso is perfect for that. Now- I've seen a lot of reviews complaining about the prices and quality etc etc. Usually, I would just let them be, but in this case enough is enough. For all you haters out there- first of all- how many of you have been in Italy to speak about "authentic" Italian food? You are in Fairfield County, USA- please keep that in mind. On the same note- if the price of an appetizer is too much for you- there is always Planet Pizza up the road. Do some research (like Eataly in the City) to get a clue of how much good Italian food actually could cost. Now about the service- yeah - sometimes its better than other times. So what? For all those big mouth writing reviews- use it to speak your mind when your money is on the table. Or forever stay silent. read more

Ambiance was warm and cozy. At 7pm on Saturday, restaurant was hopping. Waiters were attentive and friendly. Appetizers and food took an extraordinarily long time to arrive. Greek salad was very good. Caesar Salad was average. The Endive salad was inedible - overpowered my mustard dressing and had to be returned. (Noted they didn't take the cost of the salad off the bill.) The house burger was delicious as were the fries. Sausage Pizza and Margherita pizza were good but arrived cold. Cocktails, unlike the food, came in the hurry. Noted that drink server on 2nd glass of wine brought the wrong wine and it had to be returned. Given lengthy delays, waiter was kind enough to bring each of us a glass of champagne on the house. Bottom line, food and timeliness was a miss. Until this is fixed, we won't be back. read more

Came here last night with a friend for 50% off wine bottles on Sundays which was awesome! Their fried calamari is the best I've had on a while! Only downside is the understaffing and service. The hostess was our waitress so we were often left waiting and wondering when someone would be back to take our order. When we did order our bottle of wine it took foreverrr to get it - we even had someone who came in after us get their drinks before us. They were out of wine and menus. We ordered pizza which was cut in off proportions so one person was left eating a tiny triangle of just crust. Overall it's a great atmosphere for a Sunday wine down but they need better attention to the service. read more

Horrible service!!! I went there few nights ago with my friends and the service was absolutely horrible. The waitress was so rude and keep rushing us to order and pay the bill, when the place wasn't even busy. We ordered a bottle of wine and it tasted awful. ( we are regular wine drinkers and we know our wines) We told the waitress that the wine was bad and we wanted to order something else. The waitress asked if we want to bring the wine home!!! Recently went for dinner with friends with expectations of a casual night out for a friends birthday. What we ended up with was an extremelly high bill, which would of been ok, had the portions justified the price. Appetizers were tiny and un-impressive, and the main courses were smaller than a childs portion. We hung out for a while taking our time with our food, but kept being harassed by the impatient waitress who seemed to be concerned more with leaving than waiting on us. We were rushed to order, rushed to eat,and worse rushed to leave. Our waitress left for the night. Our bill came to over $200 and we expected more courtesy. We will probably never give this overpriced place a second thought. read more

Met a girlfriend here for drinks on Friday. I hadn't been here since the new management took over, but oh how I love it!!! We only had some small plates to share...brussel sprouts, which were roasted and AMAZING; calamari, crisp and fresh, not chewy at all; eggplant parm, flavorful and delish!
