    Catch of the day

Everything was absolutely delicious! Took my bf's brother and his gf out for our last night here in Halifax! The only thing I had to say was my bf's mussels and squid "risotto" like dish could use a grander plate! The portion looked like a little appetizer in comparison to our mains! Other than that everything was absolutely fabulous! I had the catch of the day which was the yellow tail tuna and they others had burger and the chicken looks super delicious I love taro and the fact they had that with the guacamole was a wonderful surprise! The drinks were delicious! Next time I'm gonna try the coconut drinks!

Slow pace restaurant so be prepared for a wait. Waited for a few minutes to be served. They play music so it is a loud atmosphere. Classic margarita was good and flavorful. Walked in here with a low expectations but the food turned out amazing. I got chicken and rice and it was tender and tasty. Steak and vegetable was good. Don't walk past.

    - amazing harbourview with comfortable seating - seasoning was impressive without masking the original taste of the fresh seafood - both squid and calamari were perfectly cooked

A a true gem on the Boardwalk in Halifax. Bar Sofia has Spanish-themed decor both inside and out which make a great vibe. We sat outside where the tiled walls and tables are reminiscent of Parc Güell in Barcelona Spain and the staff is super friendly. While I have read reviews that the food is Spanish influenced, we came for the brunch menu which was Mexican-themed. We started with the Avocado + Chips which were excellent. The avocado dip had chunks of onions and tomatoes and slices of cilantro and beets which enhanced the dish. For the mains, I ordered the Nova Scotia Haddock Soft Tacos and they were excellent. While I only ordered two (you can also order three), the portions were generous as they top off the tacos with a healthy amount of slaw and I was easily satisfied with just two tacos. The flavour was outstanding and some of the best tacos I have had. By the end of lunch, we did not have enough space for the desserts but they looked really good when we saw the tables around us order them! Overall an excellent place and a repeat when I visit Halifax again.

My sons and I really enjoyed this place tonight for dinner. The food, drinks, atmosphere and service were all great. I highly recommend it.

Best food we've had in Nova Scotia. Great ambiance, really good vegetarian options and the staff are so nice. Coming from California, we've missed good Mexican food (there are some good options in Halifax),...but the birria tacos! *Chef's kiss*

Staff seemed very stressed and management was incredibly rude. Would not recommend. Long wait times and disorganized proccess.

Decent Spot for Drinks & Apps, but Didn't Quite Wow Us…read more We originally planned to have dinner at McKelvie's, but after getting a few local recommendations, we decided to head elsewhere for the main meal. That said, we still stopped in later that night for a couple of drinks and some appetizers, just to check it out. There's a solid selection of craft beers and cocktails, and the service was friendly. The atmosphere, though, felt a bit underwhelming--not quite as lively or unique as many of the other Halifax spots we visited during our trip. We tried a couple of appetizers: the cornbread with chipotle butter and the burrata. I actually thought the cornbread was pretty tasty, but my wife wasn't a fan of the flavour combo with the chipotle butter. The burrata was just okay--not bad, but nothing memorable. Even the locals weren't praising it. Feels like a chain restaurant. There's plenty of better options around in our opinion. Overall, it was a decent stop for some light fare and drinks, but compared to the other amazing restaurants in Halifax, McKelvie's didn't really stand out for us.

They have a decent local lunch crowd. That's speak accolades about their food. The open kitchen concept I have always been a fan of. Don't think twice about coming in here for a pint or bite.
