The seared tuna salad is an absolute hit, the tuna is perfectly blackened, and has a variety of vegetables including anchovies, which I love in a salad. The salmon mushroom risotto is also delicious, and the mascarpone adds an even richer texture. The vegan Thai salad is a huge portion that's packed with tofu, broccoli, zucchini, etc. The mussels is an entree portion (so also huge!) and be sure to order the side of bread so you can sop up all the juices! The octopus salad appetizer: too chewy, and this purple creamy mayonnaise on top was too much. Moules marinières : the worst in my life! Super dry and overcooked. Almost half of the shells were empty, just a little wine sauce at the bottom of the bowl. No bread. Fries portion very small. Very bad moules marinières. Canadian salmon : fish was ok but salty, and the risotto was insipid and tasteless. Also, too creamy. They didn't think about the presentation either, it was an oozing blob of "risotto". Pêche Melba : 2 tiny slices of peach on the top of 2 scoops of ice-cream. No whipped cream at all. You cannot call that a Pêche Melba. 2 glasses of wine each - which was ok Total : $215 ! And they charge fees if you pay by card. It's a scandal. It was a bad experience. I am French living in Harlem. I went with my friend and her husband, and it was such a nice experience. The place has an upscale but cozy vibe--very clean, stylish, and tucked away in a great spot. My friend's husband ordered the leg of lamb, my friend had a steak, and I went with the chicken Caesar salad. Everything looked amazing, and we all agreed the food was delicious. I had to drive, so I just had a ginger ale, but it paired perfectly with my meal. It wasn't too busy since we went kind of late, which made it even better--calm, relaxing, and a perfect setting to enjoy a good meal. Stopped by here on a Sunday before going to see Menmon at the theater nearby, very quaint with inside setting and a bar plus outside seating as well. The staff weren't so attentive the manager/ owner took forever to bring me a water and the frosè; and it's only the owner/manager with a waitress working. Happy hour all day Sunday and I belive DJ on Saturdays. I sat outside while I waited for my date, the manager offered me the $35 bottomless wine but I was on borrowed time. I wanted to enjoy an evening in Harlem and bar wine did not disappoint. I really enjoy the music and the vibe as soon as you walk in to the restaurant. They have an outdoor seating area or you can sit at the elongated bar on both sides. After we sat we were quickly greeted and presented with menus. I ordered the hummus while my sister ordered the calamari with our selection of sangria and her glass of champagne. I would have preferred the hummus beat percentage with other options other than pita chips however it was very tasty. The calamari was okay but we have tried better. Overall the vibe was incredible with the mixture of afrobeats and R&B playing in the background. This being my first time sitting inside and not eating, mussels was nice! The vibe was very sultry, I sat at the long table that starts the restaurant inside. I partook in the restaurant week menu; starting off with the ravioli it was delightful. I wish I had some bread to sop up the sauce that was left on my plate, my main course was the hanger steak & roasted potatoes , another decadent sauce with my medium steak, and I ended off my meal with a peach Melba ...the sliced almonds took this simple dessert up a notch. I would have liked for my peaches to be sweeter, but the syrup that went with it was sweet enough.. My server was pleasant even though she made a few mistakes and I did not start off with silverware, everything got together. The food was alright, however we had a 20% gratuity added to our bill without asking to a party of 2 ppl and on top of that a 3% credit card processing fee. So the total you see on your check isn't what they charge your cc. The owner/waitor had an interesting attitude (made fun of our food choices, when we pretended not notice, repeated it louder as if we didn't hear him) and transferred our table to another waiter due to his shift being over however he was there even after we left and was serving tables. In general, not a welcome feeling. This neighborhood has a lot of great restaurants within walking distance from that place like Clay or Vinateria where owners actually care and very welcoming. Barawine is your favorite neighborhood spot. Vibrant atmosphere, lovely music. Some weekend night have a Dj. Late nights can turn into an active dance lounge. Weekday dinner is pretty intimate. Overall, I've only had a pleasant time each time I've visited. Indoors dining with a communal table and bar. Bigger dining area in the back. Outside seating on a corner block is always a plus. A friend who lives in Harlem said she walks by this place all the time and we finally got to try it. On Sundays they have happy hour which is incredible ($9 wines). I really enjoyed my Cabernet Sauvignon and got two glasses of it as well as fries and guacamole to share which were delicious. I've seen this several times walking by and finally decided to try it. Made a reservation via Open Table same night which was great. Arrived about 25 minutes early and we were sat right away. The hostess was very friendly as well as the waitstaff. Order two glasses of white wine and I didn't take the name down. For meals, we shared the French Onion soup. Now you must love cheese...because it had the most cheese, I've ever seen on top of French Onion soup! I did like that there was enough cheese to have some in every bite..so no complaints here. Escargot was next up and tasty....the bread dipped nicely into the leftover butter sauce. The didn't have the pork tenderloin as stated on the menu, substituting with pork chops. I can't recall the last time I've had a great pork chop, it was delicious! And the sauce could have been more it was soooo good. Lamb shank was the second entree and didn't disappoint with the polenta on the side. Gravy/sauce was to die for. My friend and I dined at this lovely place in Harlem for dinner recently. The interior is elegant, grown up, and refined with a cozy dining area. I wanted to try both the Hanger Steak and Porc Tenderloin, so we shared them. This proved to be an excellent idea. Surprisingly, I wasn't that impressed by the steak and much preferred the pork. The Hangar Steak looked amazing, cooked in a borderlaise sauce with mushrooms. Instead of the roasted potatoes, my friend asked for mashed potatoes. The sauce was tasty with rich depth of flavor of wine, shallots, and butter. However, the steak was bland and kind of tough. The mashed potatoes were pretty good though, and very creamy, filled with different seasonings. Porc Tenderloin was made with a mushroom sauce, served with roasted potatoes and string beans. The pork was delightfully tender, juicy, and simply delicious. The sauce was quite enjoyable as well. The potatoes and green beans were slightly crispy, very fresh and cooked perfectly. There was Chocolate Lava Cake on the menu, which I normally always order but decided against it since the price tag was high at $15. Service was great. Our waiter was friendly and attentive. We were well taken care of throughout. That being said, the menu items are expensive, as most main courses are around $30+. We noticed many other couples enjoying the vibes, too, so it might not be the best choice to bring kids later in the evening for dinner service. We had a reservation and were seated as soon as we arrived. The food was good, but I think we chose poorly (our own mistake). Unlike our first visit, we didn't go for recommended specials or pasta, which seem to be the specialty. Instead, we went for tuna tartare and chicken breast for entrees, and a side of truffle fries. The dishes were fine and service was fast, but I wouldn't repeat-order either dish. Our first visit was positive, so we'll probably be back to try stronger dishes on the menu. My guess is that these two dishes are there for folks who *really* want them, but they aren't necessarily the stars of the menu. My friends and I went and the restaurant was able to accommodate special food request which generally probably wouldn't happen. The food had good flavor. The drinks were good there was music which set the ambience but it's actually kind of small inside. This is something for a cute date or you want a girlfriend just grabbing drinks. I like that there was a decent selection of wine, although my go-to wine for both visits was the Syrah. Aside from various types of libations, Barawine seems to have a very vibrant and robust atmosphere. I will say that sometimes the music can be a little loud for an "intimate" wine bar setting (which is the case for many of these Central Harlem "drinkeries"). I had the Eggs Florentine: Poached eggs, English muffin, Canadian bacon, Hollandaise, house salad and roasted potatoes. The espresso was also delightful. While the waitress we had was serviceable, she was clearly a rookie and by no means worth 20%. She did not bother to come back to check on whether we liked the food, where we wanted more drinks, or whether we might want dessert. I don't know if it's a Gen Z thing, but 20% is not automatic. You need to earn that! It will be at least another year before we come back to this formally great restaurant. This is a family oriented neighborhood. Its clientele knows a good bottle of wine. Not sure if it's management or lack of ownership oversight. The charcuterie boards are everything and the frozé here is great. Not too sweet, just right! The calamari isn't worth getting here and neither is the hummus in my opinion, but everything else?
