We went to an event at Barbagallos and we're totally impressed with the food, the service, and a great, private room that was just the right size. The gluten free offerings were so tasty! Antipasto, mixed veggies, potatoes, and sausage with peppers and onions. My favorite was the mixed veggie: cauliflower, broccoli, and carrots - perfectly cooked and not over seasoned. I couldn't eat the fried chicken but it did look crispy and tempting. Drinks included bottomless mimosas and a cola. The mimosas had real orange juice in them. I don't think they were stirred because the top layer was not carbonated but the bottom was. Either way it was delicious. We were able to decorate the room as we wished which was a big plus. Barbagello's is a must stop in pub/bar. The service is impressive and the food on both evenings we ate there was delicious. It is a bar, though they have tables and booth in room adjacent to the bar. If they have the Mediterranean Salad when you visit, I highly recommend it, truly it is large enough for two and so delicious. In the 2 years we have stayed at the hotel the restaurant is connected to, we have never been disappointed in the food or service. read more

We had a wedding rehearsal dinner for 18 here in a private room just off of the bar. We ordered off the menu as opposed to a buffet. Our server was terrific and the menu was varied enough that everyone found something to enjoy. The chicken riggies were a big hit. The bar was packed and they also had a live musician playing 60s and 70s top 40 hits on acoustic guitar. Obviously, this was a local hangout. Small place located in the back of a hotel. It was clean and seemed like a cool place if you're a local. Bartender was friendly enough when she came around but just felt like an outsider that could be ignored. Beer was empty for a bit before she asked if I needed another after hanging out at the other end of the bar. Beer was cold but I've had better. Boneless medium Buffalo wings had a nice zing to them without being over the top or underwhelming. Not very many choices of flavor available. I will say the portion is large but they should be for the price. A kiss on the cheek for that price would have been nice! We had driven all day and ended up staying at the Sleep Inn which is attached to this restaurant and owned by the same family. Hotel was great. Restaurant was struggling. Like a lot of places it was short staffed - still left them a good tip. Not much for vegetarians: was told when we ordered cheese pizza the 'cheese had meat in it'. Later learned it was the sauce. Waitress recommended Reuben panini which I ordered. Got a BLT instead. They still charged me for a panini until I pointed it out. (Most restaurants will comp you if they screw up your order). Tried 'chicken riggies' which I had never had. Apparently a Utica delicacy. Delish. read more

If I did not know this place existed, I would never have been able to find it. Let's just say if this place had better curb appeal, it would probably have non-stop customers. Regardless, I think this place does pretty well without all the hustle. I walked in and placed a "to-go" order and the bartender was sweet and appropriately talkative while I waited. My order was packaged well and carefully positioned to preserve everything while I travelled. I ordered the chicken bacon ranch wrap and it was scrumptious! Great flavors and not at all soggy when I went to eat it over an hour later. I will definitely come back to this little spot another time and try the dine in option. There is Barbagallo's Deli, which is connected to the gas station....and then Barbagallo's Tavern which is in the building in the next lot. I went to the tavern because the deli was closed at 3:00 on Wednesday when I went. It was fairly empty aside from a few people at the bar....but it was an odd time. The bartender was very friendly. He brought me popcorn while I waited for my meal. It's typical bar food - burgers, basic salads, sandwiches. Nothing was calling my name....but I went with the chicken tenders - $7.95. On tap they had Sam Adams Octoberfest, yuengling, and Bud. Overall - nothing special. Just a dive bar with food. read more

This is the type of place that makes one appreciate the powers of Yelp. It isn't much to look at from the outside. As the other reviewer says, the food is good and the prices are as well. They make their own marinara sauce and I was so glad to have worked it into my lunch via their excellent chicken parm sandwich. After reading the yelp reviews I figured it was just what I needed after a long day. I was not disappointed. The service at the bar was great, the locals were friendly and the Cheese Steak was fantastic. It is definitely a local crowd and that made it more genuine. This bar is the classic definition of a 'local's bar'. Frankly, it's not something I've encountered since back when I used to live in Northern Wisconsin. If you're here reading yelp reviews looking for a place to visit, you will likely be ragged on by the locals that are unwinding after their daily grind. If you're into that (and all of the humor that comes from people who know each other well insulting each other), then you'll love this place. If you're a high-brow intellectual looking for a tasty beverage among your colleagues and stimulating conversation, you're probably out of luck here. Bring your sense of humor (think South Park-style humor) and you'll be fine. That said, the food is typical for what you will find in your average pub (burgers, fries, etc). We recently had a retirement dinner at Barbagallo's Restaurant with a group of 47 people; I was very impressed with the helpfulness of the staff in planning our event, and in helping to set up for it. Our server and bartender were friendly and professional, and the food quality (hot buffet) was superb. We were in the Diamond 2 room which was cozy and has a nice bar corner for beverages (including soda and non-alcoholic drinks). All in all, we would definitely have an event there again, it was a pleasant experience. read more

Let me preface this by stating that this is not intended to be a rant. Let it be known that I have worked in the past as a server in restaurants & banquet halls, as well as having tended bar before. And I am not a critical person...pretty easy going. With that said, only having heard of this place from a few others, let me start with my first impression: I arrived a little early for a large, formal dinner and went up to the main bar for a drink. There were about 25 people in the room, at least a dozen of them at the bar. I patiently waited and observed the bartender---seemingly sluggish---serve patrons again and again, and after ten minutes I realized that he was serving others who had arrived at the bar many minutes after me. Then, another bartender came up and began taking drink orders as I stood there waiting (13 minutes by now). After waiting finally getting one drink, I proceeded to the dining room and took my seat. The first pitcher of water we were provided was absolutely fine. The second looked gray (?) and upon drinking a sip, I discovered the most dreadful taste and spit the water back into my glass. The person next to me doubted my judgment and proceeded to drink the water and, just like me, found the water to have a strong, bad taste. Before the meal was served, a speaker took the podium and as he spoke, I couldn't help but notice two employees at the corner bar of the room, on their cell phones and chatting the entire time. Whether a fine establishment or just a diner, when present in the dining room, employees should conduct themselves in a manner that is tasteful and proper. Drawing attention to themselves neither adds to the ambience of the room, nor shows respect to the speaker and those in attendance. Lastly, when time to refill entree pans on the buffet, a member of the kitchen staff came out in a T-shirt, hat, and dirty apron to change out the pans rather loudly. This should be done by a member of the dining room staff subtly and promptly. Lastly, as for the food: the salad was very good, mixed spring greens, but no croutons (!), the dinner was okay, but the dessert was pudding in styrofoam ramekins...had I been a five-year-old, that would have been delightful. And styrofoam---never. And I could have done without the paper napkins, as well. I think that was the first place where I have ever sat down to a nice dinner party and not had a cloth napkin to lay in my lap. I will not be recommending this place to anyone and hope to never have to dine there again for a large party. I see others' reviews about how they enjoyed their lunch or dinners, perhaps the experience for those who regularly dine there for a meal with a small party is different? I also see a reviewer commented on a courtyard and firepit...that sounds nice. I would just recommend that the manager of this place consider small changes, which are aforementioned, that could quite likely improve the experience for those there for large parties. read more

Our office has order from them numerous times. The last few have been horrible. The last order they failed to place a complete fish dinner w mac n cheese, forgot cheese on the cheeseburger and another side of Mac n cheese. We returned to the store and stated the above issues and we're accused of lying about the fish dinner. They ended up giving us the fish, placed cold cheese on the burger and yet again...forgot the mac n cheese. Will not return again to give them our business. read more
