Stopped by Golden Spike Pub on Saturday and had a great experience. The atmosphere was laid-back and relaxed, making it a perfect spot to hang out and enjoy a meal. Our bartender, Dom, was fantastic--friendly, attentive, and made us feel right at home. The food was excellent across the board. I had the open-faced ribeye with garlic parmesan fries, and it was absolutely delicious. We also ordered the sweet potato fries, haddock special, fried pickles, and wings, and everything was cooked perfectly and full of flavor. Bonus points for having a jukebox--it added to the vibe. It's a good local spot. We found it by chance one trip to Syracuse. The staff is all so nice.

Stopped in about 1:15 on a Sunday. There were only two other customers in the bar so we were greeted quickly by the bartender who happened to be the owner. He was very friendly and asked how we came across the place etc. He explained the menu and extolled his chicken tenders so what else could we order? My partner and I both ordered the pickle brined chicken tenders on special. I had the house made chips and my partner had sweet potato fries. We also ordered the fried cheese curds. The food arrived fast and it was great honestly. The tenders were thin and crispy and definitely tasted like pickles. The house made honey mustard was the perfect blend of sweet and tangy. I was also impressed by the chips which often are overcooked or stale- nope, perfect. Total was about 45 dollars which was reasonable. Glad we stopped in. read more

A great neighborhood bar and restaurant! Our first time here, and a lot of locals were greeted by their first names by the bartender. The bar was clean, well lit, and quiet enough to have a conversation. The menu was pretty large and had a few items you don't often see: grilled cheese and tomato, patty melt, housemade chips (which were excellent), and fried pickles. We enjoyed our food and my wife recommends the chicken strips. Beer was fresh as well. They had just put a new keg on for one of the seasonals. We will definitely be back. So good!! Casual, comfortable place that has surprisingly good food. We started with the fried pickles.....incredibly tasty and not the oily, soggy type other places have. Yum! One is us had grilled cheese and fries. Picture thick bread with the perfect ratio of cheese and toasted to melted perfection. The fries? Excellent. During our family roadtrip to Syracuse, we actually had the intention of visiting one out of two popular food establishments but to our dismay, they were first come first serve only and had too long of a wait. This actually worked out in our favor as that was the reason we stumbled upon this hidden gem! Not to mention, it was a bonus that this spot has its own free parking lot as that was also the other struggle we were facing with the more popular establishments in the downtown area. Upon entering, we walked into a completely empty dining room. No employees, no customers. You can imagine our slight confusion and fear about whether that meant this wasn't a good spot to be. We then realized that down the hall on the left, there was a bar area which was very lively and filled with people. Back to the dining area, there was an employee who had already seemingly clocked out, who asked if we had been helped yet, and when we said no, he went to the kitchen to grab the hostess. The waitress then told us we could seat ourselves wherever we liked, so we opted for some high chairs and a table near the side of the restaurant. We were quickly offered menus and drinks. As for food, we ended up ordering a bunch of dishes to share: - BANG BANG SHRIMP TACOS WITH TORTILLA CHIPS & SALSA: I was pleasantly surprised by this dish which actually might be my favorite out of everything we had. The shrimp were of good size and tender. The portions of the entire dish were really good as well. - CHICKEN TENDERS WITH SWEET POTATO FRIES: The tenders striked me as being hand battered and had a nice, light crisp to them. Their honey mustard sauce was homemade and so good that we had to ask for more! The sweet potato fries were a $2 upcharge but worth it in my opinion. I thought it was interesting that they served them with a side of maple syrup versus an aioli (which we pair it with typically in Canada). - SPIKE BURGER WITH HOMEMADE CHIPS: I requested my burger to be medium and it was exactly that with a nice light pink center. The brioche bun was soft and the meat had a really nice char to it, tasting like it came straight off a grill. The homemade chips were also such a good call, as they were so light, crispy, and not greasy at all. - PHILLY CHEESE STEAK WITH CRINKLE FRIES: If I had to pick my least favorite dish, it might be this one as some of the meat was on the drier side. I'm also not the biggest fan of crinkle fries as they're very potato-y and soft, and I definitely felt they could be crispier. This was a Wednesday special though! - CEASAR SALAD: A regular 'ol salad, I don't have much to say about it other than the fact that I wish there was a little more dressing. Service was very friendly between both the waitress and the nice gentleman (owner?) who came out to say bye to us and have a chat when he found out we were from Ontario. Our waitress came by multiple times to check up on us, gave us extra sauces without hesitation, and made sure our glasses were full. This place has a really cute vibe to it, between the decor with neat trinkets, as well as the soft music in the background. The service was very friendly and attentive. This was probably the best part of my visit. They did have a nice selection of beers on tap and in cans. It was a cozy pub and typical of what you might expect for ambiance. I came here because so many people have raved about their chicken tenders. I had to try them for myself. Unfortunately, they were not good at all. They were greasy, the chicken was dry and not juicy. There was more breading than chicken. I brought them home for family to try and they said it tasted like they were fried in the same oil as fish. This might have been a one off so I won't write them off, maybe other food they have tastes better. read more

The food was absolutely incredible! They have one of the best clam chowders I've ever had! It's so creamy and FULL of flavor. I had a side of garlic parm wings which were equally as good. Pretty extensive food menu except they ran out of their fish special right before we got there. Every guest at my table loved their meal (I captured a pic of all of them). I was at an event that was catered by the Golden Spike in E Syracuse. The Prime rib was to die for, the red skinned potatoes were the creamiest along with asparagus. The desert cookies were from Geddes Bakery of which we asked for and were also stellar & rolls were from Dilauros Bakery I'm pretty sure. I didnt ask, but they tasted like them. I wish I could say that something could have been better, but I can't. I've eaten in there a long time ago and just don't get on that side of town very often. The prime rib came out medium rare as ordered. You could cut it with a butter knife. Melt in your mouth goodness. Her sides were fries and mac salad. Fries were standard crinkle cut. Mac salad was on point. Horn pasta with plenty of chunky cheeses. Nice representation of homemade pasta salad. Tasty dressing. I had the fried haddock, with Mac and cheese and coleslaw as my sides. Fried haddock pretty standard. Tartar and cocktail sauces definitely homemade. Mac and cheese was cheesy and moist. Coleslaw had a nice homemade dressing recipe taste. I did a quick search on Yelp and picked this place because it was close to my hotel, had good reviews, and what sounded like good food and beer. Upon entering I could tell this was a locals place. I had a seat at the bar, because most of the seats in this place are at the bar. I was wearing my sub vet hat and immediately a gentleman started talking with me. He was a little bit older vet and was on surface ships. He told me he comes here a couple times a week. Most of the other people knew the bartender and you could tell. It felt like a really homey place. The music in the background was a classic rock playing at a respectable volume. I ordered a beer and ask for the menu. I figured I was close to Philadelphia, so I ordered a Philly cheese steak. I can't remember the bartender's name, it was something like Jean, Jean Ann or Jeannie but she was very good! She checked on me multiple times to make sure that I had what I needed and she paid attention to everyone else seated at the bar very well. My sandwich was delivered in a timely fashion, looked amazing and really hit the spot. I continue chatting with the older gentleman near me about the Navy and our experiences. I think he enjoyed that! And I was thankful to be welcomed! I can't remember the beer I had, but I will always remember the experience I had walking in as an unknown and leaving feeling like I was welcome back any time again. read more

Wow wow wow!!! This place is not only welcoming and low key, the food is delicious. We came here on a whim after driving by it and hope to become regulars here very soon. If I could give more than 5 stars I would, the service was impeccable and the food was so well crafted. I got the special for tonight which was the chicken and biscuits, my husband got the Buffalo chicken wrap (which I will be getting next time for SURE). I wanted to tell everyone about a quite surprising and totally UNEXPECTED meal at Golden Spike in East Syracuse. TL;dr GO THERE. Order anything. Order everything. It's an amazing place for delicious homemade pub food. Ok, now the full review. First of all, my friend saw this place on the internet and mentioned it to me. On a Saturday 12:30pm, we packed up and drove specifically there to check it out. And glad we did! My friend's kid is 13 and he's super picky. He ordered 5 wings extra crispy hot and a cheese quesadilla which he ate every crumb of... so it can't be bad! My friend ordered 5 wings also extra crispy hot and a special chicken cordon bleu sandwich which he said was fantastic. My girl ordered a bowl of New England clam chowder which I admit I did eat half of - and it was so good and fresh. She also ordered the chicken Caesar wrap which was delicious and light. Now, my sandwich was absolutely PERFECT. I ordered the crispy chicken sandwich which typically comes with lettuce, tomato (which I said no to!) bacon, spicy aioli, cheese but I asked for hot sauce to be added. WOW. Game changer! It was absolutely the best chicken sandwich I think I've had in a long time. Came with choice of coleslaw, home made chips, or fries - I went with the fries and ate every last one. This was such an unexpected and great elevated pub food in a very relaxed environment. If you haven't given it a try, do it!!! You won't be disappointed! And the reason for no pictures on my review.. OUTSTANDING local family owned place Ambiance at the bar is local neighborhood BUT everyone is welcome. One of the owners behind the bar tonight, personable and shared some knowledge about the establishment and some of their kitchen secrets(not going to tell) and how they approach the restaurant business. Had the NE clam chowder which was delicious and a little bit off the beaten path but was one of the best I have had in the area. Spend much time in Cape Cod and this rivals some of the best and is above most so give it a try. Went with the chicken tenders and fries... and the tenders are exactly that...TENDER and had a great taste and crunch. These are by far the most tender I have tried and the secrets were shared . Only knock would be the fries... standard restaurant frozen crinkle cut . Might want to give though to home cut/home made fries to pick things up a notch. Eight craft beers on tap(Blue Moon craft??, had a Grow Bold and Hold NE IPA which was good followed by a Fat Tire, otherwise only 3 others on tap. The prices and the portions were fair, everyone liked their food, but to me, the chicken tenders were flavorless. The homemade honey-mustard helps, but not that much. Working in the Restraunt and bar Buisness, it's inherent that you become hyper critical of any and all establishments. That being said, I felt obligated to share the experience I've had with Mary and Bree at golden spike. My girlfriend and I have had the most consistent, Outstanding experiences here down to every single, small detail. The service, food, and drinks easily exceed Our expectations every time. This place does every single thing well, especially the wings. Im proud to say I'm from Buffalo, and these are still the best wings I've had to date.
