Had a chain shortened. Was offered 50.00 for the 2gram 14k gold scrap. Took it to another jeweler and got 150.00 When I told her I want the gold scrap back I was charged 100.00 for shortening my chain. Would be careful when dealing with this place. read more

I read somewhere, Honest. HA! ALWAYS read the negative reviews, first! I THOUGHT they were nice, (her son was great) because of what she volunteered to do for me, until I was told from Barbara that her NY connection put a battery in my watch, (that is all I wanted, a battery replacement in my Swiss Army watch, apparently has a special back that they were not equipped to remove) and it failed to operate. I didn't believe it, because I had the battery replaced once every 18 - 24 months for the last 15 years or so. I take good care of my good things. So I asked her if he tried another battery! Seriously! I know my face dial was off a bit, that did not bother me but it did bother her NY connection. It was not perfectly centered after 15 - 20 years, so what? They wanted $150.00 to do an overhaul, I'll call it. The argument between Barbara and I was that the watch would have worked if they did all I wanted them to do, put a friggin battery in the watch so it would operate. But no, she blatantly lied to me (good business practice) telling me the watch needed to be "fixed" to the tune of $150.00. Sure, her NY connection would have re-centered the dial, (nothing wrong with the crystal), put a battery in, and who knows what else for $150.00. I told her I would return once I found somebody else to put a battery in it to prove to her it was a working functioning watch. (And I did, Caparo Jewelers to the tune of $16.90). While I was there to pick up my non repaired watch, I reached into my pocket to show her another Swiss Army Watch that needed a battery. She just about threw me out of her store, albeit politely. I won't bother going back in. I have a lot of money to spend on fine jewelry, I'm glad she doesn't need my thousands of dollars that I will be spending elsewhere. Last December I took my wife's engagement ring to Barbara B's Jewels at 1501 Bethlehem Pike in Flourtown, PA. I went there on the recommendation of my wife's best friend, Judy who works there part time. I was told the cost of the ring being repaired would be $60 to $70. I said, "As long as it's less than $100 I'm fine with that." When I picked it up the cost was $212.00. I told Maureen who waited on me that I thought it would be about $70.00. She said, "Oh no, there was a lot of work. We called your wife and talked to her." I was curious how they called her since the only phone number I gave them was my business number. I thought maybe they got it from my wife's friend. When I got home I asked my wife if they contacted her and she said no. I have since called twice and left my number for Barbara to call me. The first time I called, I got Maureen on the phone. I sensed she recognized my voice and didn't want to take my number. She just dismissed me and said, "She's busy, you'll have to call back." I insisted she take my number. I then called a 2nd time and was told Barbara wasn't there. I left my number with the message for her to call, I am a customer. She never called. In summary, this business lies about their price estimates, lies about calling their clients, and then refuses to call customers who have a question. This is how they treat a customer who came in there with a very good referral of which Barbara was aware. I can just imagine how they treat customers off the street. It is my strong suggestion that you never do business there, Barbara' B's Jewels at 1501 Bethlehem Pike in Flourtown, PA. Owner does not stand by her work and was rude and dishonest. We took an heirloom ring to be refashioned into an engagement ring and diamond studs. There were also 10 rubies and 8 smaller diamonds that we wanted removed and saved so we could make an anniversary band at some point in the future. When I went to pick up the ring, the owner, Barbara, told me the smaller gems had been destroyed in melting down the gold. Why weren't the gems removed BEFORE the melting process? When my husband questioned her about this, she argued with him that it was OUR fault for asking that the ring be taken apart and said, "These things happen." She never even told us that this was a possibility. She did not apologize nor offer us any compensation for the lost gems. I would not trust her with my jewelry. She was unprofessional and blamed the customer for her own mistake. read more
