I pretty much always have a book on order from them at any given time and they're always speedy and communicative. Every time I've placed an order for a book I've gotten a response within an hour that it was on its way and a time frame in which to expect it. (And I'm not talking an automated response, but an actual typed response from a human being!) There have been times when my book has somehow miraculously arrived within 24-48 hours of ordering! The only time a book has ever taken longer than expected to arrive and when I called to ask why they informed me that it had arrived damaged and they opted to order in a fresh copy for me. As a lifelong comic book collector, I've been conditioned to be a condition freak when it comes to my books and I'm so glad to know that instead of being put in an awkward position of coming in to pick up an order and seeing it's not in good condition and being anxious about saying anything that they went this route instead. Amazon could NEVER. If I ever move to a different neighborhood for whatever reason, I'd be happy to go out of my way to continue supporting Roscoe Books after so many stress-free, friendly experiences there.

I did find a book of short stories that I'm looking forward to. It was pretty busy and you can tell they have a lot of regulars. You can register to receive points that get you discounts which is always appreciated. Price points are pretty standard for a bookstore.

Mind where you walk and sit, many books are haphazardly piled in aisles and against shelves so you will have to move items, lamps etc in sections of the shop. Something to note: if you are sensitive to dust or mold or respiratory challenged, you may want to limit your visit. Old books, too many piles to clean around and strong incense equals poor air quality.

I do have one major issue from time to time, and if this was any other store I'd be down another star but I can't deny it's incredible place in the Chicago book world. To my best guess, this seems to be run by a male and female team. The male usually has a great answer or recommendation when asked. The female is another story. When asked about a book in the vein of another book I've been told she doesn't know, I respect that. When asked if they had a book recently featured on Instagram the response was "I don't run the Instagram just dm them"....as she was actively on her phone and I'm in the store with money to spend. I'm sorry to bother you. When asked "do you have this book, it's scifi I think?" "I don't know" - note I found it on a top shelf about 10 mins later. When asked "I saw a rare ($500) book here last week but I don't see it now, did it sell?" "I don't know, it might be at a book fest so if it doesn't sell it will be here next week" I'm about to buy a pretty expensive book and you can't text the person at the fest to find out? I can pay for it now. Instead I guess I'll buy it online somewhere else. I don't bother shopkeepers when it's busy - these were not busy times. I found a new book from my to-read list, coveted a cute display of Studio Ghibli merch, smiled at the witty cards, and soon my companions and I amassed a stockpile of items to purchase and so they gave us a nice tote. Maybe next time we'll skip dessert and head straight here (must check hours to see when the bar is open).

Partners in Crime Bookshop is quickly becoming one of my favorite local stops! There is tons of…read moremetered street parking along the whole block and I have not had any issue finding close parking on any visits. I follow Partners in Crime on Instagram, and one of my favorite things about them is how they are always hosting events, there are always author signings, always something going on. They connected with Cozy Girls Inc. for a book bedazzling night that I saw on their social media and was so excited to sign up. It was only $25 and ran from 7pm-9pm, after the store was closed for the day. I thought this was an incredible value for what we got for the night, and they offered 15% off for anyone shopping during the event! I picked up a copy of a book I had been wanting to read to bedazzle for the event. While I went for an event, there are some things I want to highlight that are just about the bookstore/regular shopping experiences! The staff here are always so nice, and I have felt very comfortable asking questions or needing help. I love that this bookstore is romance themed (in part at least) because I never feel any stigma or judgment browsing and shopping here. It's so cozy, and there are SO. MANY. BOOKS! They've done an amazing job carving out little nooks in the store but also having so much space to carry so much! I love that there are also stickers, pins, bookmarks, candles, etc. as well to making shopping even more fun. I love the resurgence of reading and literature appreciation and Partners in Crime has cultivated the best little spot with really reasonably priced books and gifts and I'm so grateful to have them in the community! It's a lovely and bright space and feels very welcoming. If they don't have something you're looking for, they can order it and have it for you quickly, usually within a few days. They encourage discussion and learning, and host wonderful author events, book groups, story times, and much more. Very thoughtful and curated selections at reasonable prices.
