Whimsical bookstore with a curated collection. I happened upon this bookstore when I was on my way to the nearby coffee shop. They have many children's books for all ages and a brief adult section. I was co-hostess for a baby shower for my daughter and her husband in early December. I stumbled on a "book/food" theme and decided that's what I would do. Problem was, where to get all the books? I contacted Booked and Eli said they would have no problem getting the books I wanted. They did and now my grandson, Charlie, has the beginnings of a library. Tons of books for kids of all ages, and adults too. Chelsea will recommend the perfect gift for any kiddo, gift wrapping (in eco-friendly kraft paper and tied with a ribbon) also available. Pre-pandemic, there were regular storytimes, and get-togethers for new moms and infants, which I loved! Now you can email in your order, and pick up at the store. I've also emailed to ask for some recommendations and I've gotten some great ones. If they don't have your request in stock, they can order it. Plus, the miniature door is so cute! Love the selections and how they're grouped by age appropriate material, which makes it easy for me to quickly pick out the right items for my nieces and nephews. Also has books for adults as well. There are some cute cards and pins for sale too in case books are not all you need. Well worth a visit if you love books. read more

Booked is a must stop for anyone that has a kid or young adult that either loves reading, or is about to fall in love with reading. We always make a point of taking our nieces and nephews when they visit, and on multiple occasions they have been and to special order books I was looking for, for myself or gifts. I highly recommend Booked and will be a loyal customer for a long time. As a bonus, it feels good to insure that my hard earned money is going to support a great community gem like this instead of into some already overinflated corporate account. read more

Booked, owned by Chelsea Elward who is an Evanston local, is a bookstore specifically for children and young adults. Even by standing outside the store you can tell Booked has a target audience - there is a miniature door for little ones to enter through, which is a great way to get kids excited about a book store. The store itself is well organized and has a great variety of books for kids and teens (or adults if you're like me and read YA as a brain break). There are toys for kiddos who want an activity to do while their parents shop as well as a few comfortable looking chairs. Chelsea was very welcoming and gave great recommendations about what books to read. I'm thrilled to have a bookstore like this nearby, as it is a great place to get books to use in therapy or in classrooms. I'm just bummed I moved further away right before it opened! read more

Our first occasion to visit Booked was to attend a Trans Day of Visibility celebration the store was holding. We arrived late and the store had closed. Seeing me peering in through the window, the door was opened and we were greeted warmly. Eli brought us a selection of stickers, buttons and gave us three free books (!) It was so heartwarming to experience the care and enthusiasm Booked's staff feel for readers. They could have just told us the store was closed. Instead, they took the time to go above and beyond to welcome us, to give us gifts, and to encourage us to call them whenever we wanted more book recommendations. The store is inviting, but it is the staff that truly set this bookstore apart. We will certainly go again. read more

Much like Evanston itself, this store is charming, unique and well designed. Studies show reading is the most powerful indicator of future educational success and nothing encourages reading more than a bookstore like this. My daughter was enthralled by the store! This is such a fun, kid-focused, bookshop! Chelsea is so kind and interacts so well with all of her guests and customers. What a magical little book shop! This a a gem. From the very unique entrance (that my kids loved) to the very friendly and knowledgeable owner, this is place the place for young readers. Parents take your kids. My kids are huge readers and the selection of quality books is outstanding. And also very unique. It's like having your own little young readers Sherpa. What a wonderful place to bring the kids. There are always events, author signings and readings for children of all ages. I love that there are books for babies to teens. The adult section is excellent as well. Chelsea is as personable an owner as I have ever seen. This place is a gem. read more
