We moved to Virginia from California about a year ago and have been searching for a burrito place that made burritos like in California and Barbie's burrito barn burritos are as close to those that we have found so far. Her burritos have shredded pork, real cheddar and mozzarella cheese, beans , rice and sour cream in them and she doesn't use that white cheese sauce stuff that most places use out here. It's a little place, but she has tons of parking. Someone earlier complained about it's too hard to get to because of the ramp, but we had no problem at all getting to it. Barbie is fun to talk to and she'll make your burritos or tacos however you want them. We will definitely go back often. read more

I love Barbie's. I love the idea, the location, and the food! It's a perfectly clean and sweet little spot, operated solely by the owner and namesake. The food is fairly priced, and though the menu isn't extensive, it has what you would expect from a "burrito barn". The burritos are hefty and the portions in general are quite generous, which is good because when it comes to Tex mex, I can eat and eat. You might describe it as a hole in the wall, but I think that lends charm, and it's actually located quite centrally in Belmont, close to downtown, with easy parking, and it's not hard to stop in if you're just passing by and want to grab a bite real quick. My friend and I stopped in for a late lunch yesterday and had such a nice meal and a memorable visit with Barbie. My large beef burrito was temperature hot and nicely spicy. My friend had a beef taco that was a work of art for the eyes and music to her taste buds. The veggies were fresh and crispy and the shell had a crunch to match the vegetables. Barbie's is awesome! This is a one-woman operation so the hours and menu options are limited, but the food quantity and quality for the price is great. I have made it a point to try almost everything on the menu, and would say my favorite item was the chopped bowl. I love that she throws in the fresh cabbage and jicama to make it taste really fresh and crispy. Barbie makes the tortilla strips herself so those are awesome as well-- I would definitely recommend getting some strips and guacamole to eat with your bowl. I was also pleasantly surprised by how stuffed the tacos were-- she really fills them to the brim! Seating is limited but she packs everything up so you can easily take it to go if you'd like. The lady yelled at my wife and told her to go sit down she would bring it out. You walk in, place an order while literally standing in the kitchen, and Barb makes your meal while singing along to the music (in our case, it was Carole King). The service was super friendly and conversational; I would go back just to talk to Barb (and sing along with her to Carole King). Barbie's Burrito Barn is a nice, homey shop in between Belmont and downtown. The people are extremely welcoming and are pretty quick in having the food ready. As others have mentioned, it is a good size burrito for what you pay. While the portion size is good, the burrito itself was not anything special: rice, beans, cheese, pork. I think the refried bean ratio was a bit too high. The burrito was also not wrapped properly (which seems to be why they provide forks with their burritos) - and was difficult to eat at times. If I were to come back, I wouldn't come back for the burrito unless my primary aim was to get the most bang for my buck. read more

Quaint little casual restaurant below the Belmont bridge. After seeing the article about it opening, we decided to stop in and try it for ourselves. The location is a bit strange, but it's great to see owners making use of and reviving buildings, which Barbie appears to have done to this former house. The sole employee working when we visited around 1pm on a week day was Barbie. She welcomed us into the extremely clean kitchen where she takes orders, prepares your meal, and you use one of those Apple-esque touch pad checkout machines to settle up on your bill after you've ordered, eaten, and she's checked to make sure you don't need anything else. Our meal ran $20 for a classic glass bottle, sugar cane, Hecho en Mexico Coca Cola; a bottle of water; 2 chicken tacos; one pretty large burrito; and a bag of chips and salsa. The tacos were hard shell and required a fork to eat what spilled out, they were that generous. I'd recommend about 2 tacos per person. A bag of chips was perfectly sized to split among 2 people and the salsa was delicious! Barbie was really friendly and clearly excited to have been open for almost 4 weeks now! She did admit that there have been some growing pains and confirmed, as I saw on a Google review, that on days when she gets slammed with a line out the door by late afternoon she sometimes gets low on ingredients. I'd prefer this over frozen or not fresh food any day though! Barbie also refused to take a tip insisting that wasn't required at a casual take out place; and she's probably right, it was priced accurately without. Hope BBB continues to stay busy and we'll definitely be back to support this quaint, locally owned, restaurant with pretty good food! read more

Pretty yummy tacos! I had the beef and chicken tacos (HARD tacos-my fav!). The tacos were completely stuffed w meat so you got your money's worth. However, the second taco got pretty soggy and was messy to eat but, no worries, there's a bath tub in the bathroom! (Apparently the place used to be a dog washing building?! But Barbie keeps the place spotless.) The place is pretty quaint with a kitchen where you tell Barbie what you want, and a sitting area with two tables. I feel a little guilty giving this a two. The two people working here were both very nice but the food left a little to be desired, earning a solid "Meh. I've experienced better." We ordered a burrito, a chicken taco, and a side of chips and guac. The burrito was huge (weighing in at 1.66 pounds) but was pretty bland and mostly mushy. It definitely needed to have something in it to improve the consistency, or maybe just smaller so it would have a greater tortilla to filling ratio. The guacamole was pretty bland as well. We ended up mixing some of the salsa in to give it more flavor. My wife enjoyed her taco though. There's a lot of parking next to the restaurant. It has a very cute exterior and would be nice to eat outside in the summer at their picnic table. There are a few tables inside, but this appears to be more of a take out place (which is what we opted for). The kitchen was very clean (you enter the kitchen to order). You get a lot of food here for not much money (our bill was about $14), but I'd personally rather spend a little more elsewhere for something with a little more flavor. read more
