Good bakery/pastry place! I am big on maple and the gal that helped me, showed me the maple they put on the bars.. never seen maple applied to a donut like that.. It looked like it comes out of a cake decorating tool.. tasted wonderful.. read more

An unassuming storefront and lackluster interior do not represent the goodness coming out of this bakery. Barb's Pies puts out some excellent pies and pastries. It looks like a small operation. The prices are on par or a little less than other places (except Costco). I prefer supporting local business. They advertise on a radio station I listen to so we gave it a try. We were not disappointed. It's best if you order the pies ahead of time. They are in high demand. read more

Everyone is probably familiar with their awesome & delicious pies, pastries, cakes & doughnuts, but they are starting to offer food. They have items like Loco Moco, Kaleo's burger, teriyak chicken & poutine. I had the teriyaki chicken & it was awesome, takes me back to Hawaii! It's not fancy & you need to be patient, there's only one cook & Kaleo does it right! I wish them luck with the food menu! read more

I loooove Barb's! I'm a huge donut fan and while one of my sons is gluten free and Barb doesn't have GF options, the occasions that it's just me and my other son we love all the yummy donut options available! The selections seem to change regularly but they usually have the essentials like maple bars, scones and some fancy looking donuts so lots of great options. Beyond the donuts, the Pies are amazing. Because of the GF issues of my son I only get to try them at friends or when the pies can be hidden but the ones I have had are all fantastic. I'm planning on sending my son to summer camp just so I can try them all. Anyway, lovely food and the staff are so nice! read more

The maple bars are fiiiiiiiirreeeeeeeeee! We needed a birthday cake made for our daughters birthday but it was a specific one that she saw on the internet. This little spot is so great! They make some of the most amazing fruit pies you'll ever have with a perfectly crispy streusel topping that melts in your mouth. If you aren't in the mood for a pie, I HIGHLY recommend grabbing one of their donuts (really doesn't matter which one, they're all amazing). I especially love their strawberry rhubarb hand pie and their maple bar. They make their donuts crispier than others and it is not all just cake donut flour, they almost make some of their donuts with more of a pastry dough which I am a massive fan of. Only bought donuts but amazing texture and heft of the dough. Wanted individual pie slices but none available. Very small place. Can get coffee drinks and sandwiches. Difficult to understand the counter person. Will go back at a different time of day to sample other things. Definitely to get more donuts. read more

I hadn't heard of Barb's Pies until yesterday. My wife and I were going to someone's house for dinner and we needed to bring a dessert. My wife knew of Barb's so we went there. When we showed up with Barb's pie everyone was excited because they had Barb's pie at an event and said it was delicious! When we got there it was a small operation that makes it feel like a staple in the community. We got there in the afternoon so the selection was limited. The lady that I'm guessing is Barb was with another customer but overheard us and said, "I might have something for you". When she finished with the other customer she said that someone ordered too much and decided not to buy two of the pies that they ordered. Lucky for us we were able to get a raspberry rhubarb pie that was precut! I was so grateful that it worked out for everyone! When we are the pie at our friend's house, the pie was the best I've ever had! I ate mine with some ice cream on the side and it was perfect! They also have donuts and other sweets. If you're craving sugar, this is the place to go! I had a look at their website and it looks like you can order pie through DoorDash and UberEats. I am all about supporting small businesses and this is one worth supporting! read more

Ok ok!!! I'm an apple pie guy and love most apple pies without any issues. But to have your mind blown at age 44 because of a pie is unreal!!!! The Carmel apple pie from Barbs is STRAIGHT UP AMAZING. If you like crumble, Carmel, and big fresh apple........... GO GET ONE!!!!! When you open the box it is almost a shame to cut into it... but once you do, it's allllll worth it. I have been in several times now and everytime service and quality are consistent. Parking can be tough but it is worth it. I had a peach hand pie that was absolutely amazing! I don't know what's done to the crust but it has a sweet coating thats is almost a glaze but more like a kiss of sweetness. The filling was just the right amount, perfect ratio of filling ro crust. Pies, we have had the strawberry rhubard, apple and Dutch apple all off them very enjoyable. The crust is always a perfect golden brown and same as the hand pies, they have a perfect ratio of filling to crust. Donuts, they have fritters of different flavors and all of them are wonderful. They maple bacon bars are outstanding. Even just the traditional chocolate glazed and sugar coated are worth stopping in for. This time they also had some little mini cookie pie things and they were almost as incredible as the hand pies. I love sweets to much to remember to take pictures, but I did this trip! read more

Whenever I go to Ferndale I must stop by Barb's for the latest sweet treat. Today it was hard to choose as their showcase was chockfull of delectable pastries. I chose my all time favorite apple fritter and a cinnamon roll for a friend (it is super big). Definitely the best in our county. The freshness is unbeatable! read more

Came in 30 mins before closing. Was able to get a strawberry and cream filled donut (BEST donut I've even eaten) it's not overly sweet like a lot of jelly filled donuts. The strawberries were fresh and cooked down just a little. The cream was perfect. The donuts are light fluffy with just a little chew which is the best. Not too much glaze where it's just a sheet of sugar on top. $2.30 a donut but so worth it! 100% going back again! read more

It was easy to schedule with her and to schedule far in advance, which was important to us. I stopped in with my friend for my first taste of Barb's treats. I got two mini vanilla buttercream cupcakes, and my pal got a berry scone. So good!! Per usual, I was planning last minute for my husband's birthday dinner. He loves apple pie so at 3:00 I called Barb's hoping for an apple pie. She didn't have any prepared but offered to BAKE ONE FRESH! I picked it up just before 5 and it was still warm when we had it a couple of hours later. It was delicious. My daughter in law works at the co op in Bellingham. When it was opened, she managed the bakery there. She mentioned to me that for her birthday, she wanted to have a strawberry rhubarb pie. We live in Wisconsin, so I could not pick up the pie and deliver it in person. I called Barb and told her the story! We ordered 3 pies from here: bumbleberry, peach, and lemon meringue. All three were a big hit and they tasted amazing! It was only a bummer when we finished them all and there wasn't any left to enjoy! We appreciate how easy it was to order and pick up the pies. This is easily the best bakery in Whatcom County. I recently ordered special cupcakes for a rehearsal dinner. They were so good and everyone raved about them. The staff was easy to work with, Barb agreed to make champagne cupcakes with special details. I picked up the order on time and beautifully packaged. For a small business, they do wonderful things with great ease. You can't go in without grabbing a treat for yourself. I wish there were more stars. read more

Hands down the best bakery around. Everything is scratch made and amazing. I try to get the Strawberry Rhubarb Pie when I go, but it's extremely popular and I don't always get lucky. Since they sell out frequently, I highly recommend calling and ordering in advance if there's something you're seeking in particular. There were about six flavors of cupcakes available, along with some cookies and chocolates. The cupcakes come in three sizes: mini for $1, regular for $2.50, and large for $5. However on my first visit there were no minis available, and on my second visit the minis only came in one flavor. Carol mentioned that she'll be having one special cupcake every day, and from what I can tell that one will be the large. The first cupcake I tried was the daily special... a sweet potato cupcake topped with toasted marshmallows and walnuts. I loved the sweet potato cake, but I think I would have preferred a cream cheese frosting over the marshmallows. Also it didn't wow me enough to be worth the $5 price tag. On my second visit I had two of the regular size cupcakes. One was a half chocolate/half vanilla cupcake (cutely named something like "can't make up my mind"), and the other was a creamsicle cupcake. Overall I've found the cake to be perfectly moist, and the frosting nice and sweet, with a good balance between the two. The only improvement I'd suggest is more pronounced flavors, as I couldn't really taste much orange in the creamsicle. But I am glad that Carol is being inventive with the flavors and not just sticking to the usual chocolate with chocolate, chocolate with vanilla, vanilla with vanilla, vanilla with chocolate, etc. To be honest, in a larger city I don't think Carol's Cake Designs would last against stronger competition. We spent three digits on this cake, but you would never know it. The stripes on the cake were not the same lengths. There were patches in the fondant. Patches!! The special fondant was so super sickly sweet as to be in edible. It was just so immaturely decorated. We didn't even bother taking a picture of it. My niece didn't want a permanent reminder of how bad her birthday cake looked. We won't be back.

The owner stepped out of the stand on my side, continued talking with the baristas, and still did not acknowledge my presence. She then walked past my car and took the order of the vehicle behind me, completely ignoring the customer already waiting at the window. For nearly six minutes, not one person--neither the owner nor the multiple baristas inside--said a single word to me or made any attempt to take my order. Instead, they began preparing the order for the car that had arrived after me while I continued to sit there with no service whatsoever. This level of disregard is unacceptable. When a stand is not busy and several employees are present, being ignored entirely--especially while someone who arrived later is served first--is beyond unprofessional. I left extremely disappointed and frustrated, and this experience has seriously made me reconsider returning

Barb made a BEAUTIFUL customized cake for my parents' 50th Wedding Anniversary party exactly what I had in mind! I found pictures on the internet and she combined the elements I liked of each, tweaked my own ideas into it, suggested some of her own, and it was not only gorgeous and elegant but delicious! It tasted homemade with fresh ingredients. The top was a carrot cake with cream cheese frosting and the lower tier was a white cake with real raspberry filling. The guests and my parents were impressed! Her assistant made the roses by hand and they were stunning! On top of it, I only gave her 6 days notice to prepare this masterpiece at a time when she was swamped with tons of orders for graduation and the like. THANK YOU Barb and staff! It was PERFECT! We needed a last minute dessert for a wedding rehearsal dinner and the brides favorite was blackberry pie. Barb's was amazing not only were they able to help us last minute but made fresh pies. In fact they were still warm when we picked them up. We had blackberry, apple and mixed berry. The crust was flaky and sweet but not to sweet. It was the hit! Such great friendly service. read more
