There were plenty of people sitting and enjoying their desserts with a glass of bubbly. It felt like I stepped into a whole new world. The women working were DOLLS! So sweet. I could tell they had the ordering counter down to a science and were super efficient while still being friendly and spending time with each customer. I was surprised to learn that a dessert shop was open until 10 on Friday and Saturday, and even more shocked when the place was hopping at 9:45 pm!! We got a slice of the carrot cake and a glass of port (they sell alcohol). The folks who worked there were super sweet and promised not to kick us out right at 10pm. The spumoni cake and the gluten-free mocha cake were absolutely delicious; rich, flavorful, and clearly made with care. The hot chocolate was also amazing, super comforting without being overly sweet. They've got a ton of vegan-friendly options, which was such a nice surprise, and the little shop is full of cute mementos and local charm. It's cozy, welcoming, and open until 10pm, which makes it the perfect spot for an evening treat or coffee catch-up. We also loved the baristas: they were incredibly kind and helpful, and you could tell they really enjoy being there. Can't recommend this place enough if you're in Bellingham. In the meantime, the ordering line grew to about 10 people deep. Anyway, I wanted to get a brownie and a Nanaimo wedge, but my husband convinced me we should each enjoy a Nanaimo, since we can't get them anywhere but in the Vancouver Island area. The chocolate part was good but the pistachio was a bit dry. The main problem I had was the tip that was automatically applied. I was surprised when I was paying that it didn't ask me for a tip. When I went to apply my credit card, I remember it being $15 but when I received my emailed receipt, I was surprised to see $18 with a tip on there. We came to Bliss at 3:30 PM on Saturday to pick up some desserts for later in the evening. They were a smash hit with our friends! Bliss is so clean and they have lovely displays. You can also pick up gifts here too. We ordered a slice of their nanaimo wedge, creamy lemon wedge, and their peanut butter wedge. All of these flavors are so good and complimentary. The lemon wedge will forever be my favorite-they nailed the sour to sweet ratio here, and their graham cracker crust is great. Their peanut butter wedge and nanaimo wedge are a close tie for second, and the only reason for that is I prefer my sour flavors over sweet ones. The quality of their food is outstanding and had we had time, we would have loved to get comfortable in their beautiful cafe and stay awhile. Love this place, but this visit was a customer service fail. We were next toorder and Maddie called the lady behind us ahead to bring up her full cake sale. We were surprised she skipped us, as was the other customer. When she called on us, we asked her why she brought the other lady up ahead of us. She responded with " she is getting a full cake out of the case". We asked again how that got her ahead of everyone and Maddie then said, "well she was here earlier but left." Delish! Went there twice while in town. Here's what was ordered........ Carrot cake- good but not my favorite. It had plenty of cream cream cheese frosting which helped but I like my carrot cake moister. This one isn't dry, just not to my liking. German chocolate cake- OMG. I stopped by here to get my sweet tooth fix and I picked up the salted chocolate chip cookie and the Oreo cake. The cookie had rich melted chocolate and the texture was perfectly chewy. The cake had a nice texture. It's a pretty dense spongy cake and really moist. It's not overly sweet either and has a really subtle taste of Oreo. The drinks are good, and the desserts are *chef's kiss.* I stopped in for a latte and picked up a couple sweets to bring home with me (devoured them before snapping any photos) - got the Russian Tea Cake and a slice of their Caramel Turtle Wedge. I'm a fan of dry, crumbly baked goods (think scones, tea cakes, shortbread, etc.), so tea cakes are always a favorite of mine and I always grab one whenever I see one. This was no different - would definitely get again! The Caramel Turtle Wedge was also good, but definitely one to portion out due to its intense sweetness. It reminded me of a multilayer bar that my grandma used to make when I was young, with coconut, chocolate, caramels, etc. layered on top of each other. By far the best cupcakes I've ever had. We ordered 8 dozen cupcakes and 1 vegan, gluten-free chocolate cake for our wedding and the Pure Bliss team made everything so easy. We were able to order online and everything was ready/good to go on the morning of our wedding. Because of some guests' (and perhaps more importantly, the bride's) dietary restrictions and allergies, we ordered a mix of regular and vegan/gluten-free options. Not only didn't people seem to notice the difference between the two (although they were clearly labeled), it seemed many guests preferred the vegan/gluten-free options! In Bellingham for the weekend, I was strolling around the downtown commercial area when I spied Pure Bliss. The menu posted outside was irresistible, and I excitedly walk in. My enthusiasm became immediately tempered by the pink floor decals, keeping patrons measurably distant from each other, the sales help, and the desserts on display. Pandemic safety takes precedence over exuberance. Everything looked scrumptious, especially in the classically elegant interior, but the sterility of the viral protection seemed to overwhelm the ambiance of Pure Bliss. Service was a bit cold, my giddy affect not reciprocated. I ordered for take out a slice of NY Cheesecake, a slice of Cookies and Cream cake, a caramel salt cupcake, and a caramel bar. My cheesecake was very good, but lacked the heaviness of a true New Yawk Cheesecake. While the icing on the Cookies and Cream cake mirrored the flavor of what one expects of cookies and cream, the cake itself was chocolate. Both the bar and cupcake were a taste of caramel heaven. Prices may be high for Bellingham, but in line for sophisticated pastry. Pure Bliss will be revisited by this dessert maven. read more

Any time I go here I have a slam dunk experience. This place is always popular so don't be surprised if you have to wait 10 minutes in line. It's worth it, though. You can't go wrong with any of these desserts. I like the chocolate mousse! And while you're there you can enjoy a beverage. You have your choice of canned drinks, champagne or even a coffee. Had to let everyone know how my "Grinch Cake" (aka the Pure Bliss pistachio cake) made my Christmas dinner this year!
