Have been so excited to try this spot. No frills with only outside seating. Walked past it at first, but found the ordering window. We had the shrimp, catfish, fries, and a dinner roll. We also ordered a large Cajun Mac and cheese. So good!!! The catfish was fried to perfection. Crisp cornmeal coating with fresh flakey and moist catfish. Shrimp were perfectly seasoned. I'm sure this place is great as all the reviews state, but I would not know. No where did it state it was take out only. We drive 11/2 hrs to get here only to not be able to eat their food. The weather was bad and there is only 1 table without a cover. We didn't want to eat in the car. read more

I have only ever had takeout, so be aware that it's fried food takeout - it's never going to be as crispy or fresh as from the fryolator. Despite that it does not lose any stars because wow. It's great. There's not a real Cajun place in the area and this is the closest you're going to get. It reminds me of being in the South and getting those old bay seasonings and just dumping it all on a table, and picking through with your hands. Food is love and community and this place, with the shrimp, andouille, potatoes, corn and catfish, exemplify that level of Southern hospitality. If you have to watch your salt, this might be a once in a while treat because it's appropriately salty. Otherwise, it's the closest to Louisiana we're going to get, so take a road trip to Ferndale to taste the Big Easy. read more

Everything was cooked perfectly and I can not wait to try more of the food. As someone from the area where creole food is from I am SO EXCITED for these flavors! We have never had anything like this here and you all should try it!!! On top of the incredible food the person at the window was soooo kind. Seafood boil plates are fresh and flavorful, the jambalaya is also delicious. Contrary to a lot of these reviews, there are options that are not fried, but the fried foods I had were also flavorful and well prepared. I recommend Battle's kitchen, especially if weather is good and you can sit outside, or plan on picking up a seafood boil or some stew for dinner. Been far too long since I have been back to this place and I should just make a regular stop of it. Seafood platter with shrimp and catfish absolutely to perfection-- succulent & flavorful with a terrific Remoulade dipping sauce. Over a bed of generous, Cajun-seasoned fries. Grabbed their stuffed baked potato for another meal which is indescribably tasty. Think 2 big scoops of stew with an open potato at the bottom-- it's a meal for 2- very large portions. But you won't want to share. The gents are happy and will patiently explain the food if you have any questions. Updating my review as someone told me it was too personal so here we go..... It can be nearly impossible to order ahead now as they are totally unresponsive to phone calls and messages. Tried to order ahead for a work party a week in advance and got absolutely no response at all ever. If you don't have 30 minutes to an hour don't bother. Food is still good however I caution the fried items will get soggy in the baked potatoe and everything is pretty high in salt content. read more

It's been over a year since I've tried Battle's. The options were nearly all deep fried and I'm not able to eat like that often, which is the only reason I've not returned. I'll return soon and provide an update -- hoping to find fried okra next time. Service was cool, friendly and very New Orleans Saints loyal, haha. Our son found this place and had the catfish & shrimp platter. He highly recommended it so I stopped today and picked up gumbo to go. Very nice people and it was enough for both my husband and me for lunch. I would like a better view of the menu on line. The food here speaks for itself. Everything we've had on the menu is phenomenal and full of authentic NOLA flavor. We got the shrimp po boy, crawfish etouffee, Mac and cheese and banana pudding (didn't get a pic before it was finished!) My one gripe is that they aren't always open during the hours listed! The seafood macaroni is a savory delight and étouffée is delicious! Actually everything we've tried has been amazing and when my grown kids were visiting they even had beignets! I would choose Battle's over any restaurant within a 50 mile radius of Bellingham. I have tried pretty much every item off of their menu and it is the most authentic Cajun/southern style food I have been able to get my hands on in Washington. Not only is their food absolutely amazing but the hospitality is like nothing I have ever experienced. Always very welcoming and every time I find myself in a conversation that goes way past ordering my food, the definition of "southern hospitality". I hate to see people bashing them in the comments for not taking calls and the wait time, in my opinion that's a blessing. Without that you would miss out on getting to know these great guys and adding on to the already unbeatable experience. read more

So excited to see authentic Louisiana-style Seafood in Washington State! This is my first visit and I ordered the Seafood Basket so that I can sample a bit more variety. Nothing disappoints here. The seafood (shrimp and catfish) isn't just fresh, but also very well-prepared, well-seasoned, and made with love. Their dedication to food is obvious and in every bite. I think the owners are smart for taking advantage of the fine quality of the local seafood in the area, and combining that with their roots in Louisiana style cooking. It's full of flavor and not overwhelming. Although this place doesn't seem easy to find at first, a quick search on Google Maps would do. It's really an exciting hidden gem. As a Canadian, this is really worth driving across the border for. They seem to be adding new items regularly and seasonally. Eager to try something new next time. read more

This is one of the places you would not go unless you heard good things about it. Definitely worth going to. The few things I tried first trip were not too spicy just a bit of a kick. Could have been spicier in my opinion. More people probably like it the way it is. Red beans and rice are not the top of my list of foods to get but these were excellent. Got a seafood basket that was great. Need to go back and try some more of the food. Talked to a few people that have eaten there a lot and said everything is good. Gator has the best southern / authentic Louisiana style cuisine you'll find in WA! Being from Louisiana, his food makes me feel like I'm back at home! Some of my favorites are the Crawfish Étouffée, Red Beans and Rice, Chicken Strip Basket with Cajun Sauce, Catfish Basket with Cajun Mac n Cheese, and Crispy Chicken Salad with Cajun Ranch. The customer service is amazing and everyone goes above and beyond to make sure you're well taken care of. The location is very low traffic, and quiet. Just keep in mind this is NOT fast food so unless you pre order for a pickup time you will have to wait a bit for freshly made food. (Which I love!) read more
